GX740 WI-FI problem

Hi!
I bought today GX740 with factory settings. After installing my own internet security software (Symantec Endpoint Protection) I put the Wlan modem on from the hotkeys. The GX740 found all the available Wireless routers, including my own which has been working perfectly for couple of years (HP & MAC). After choosing the correct wireless connection I put the password for my own wireless network. After that the CPU informed me that "Windows was unable to connect to..". The GX740 worked perfectly with cable and I was managed to download all the newest drivers from MSI homepage.
How can I get the wireless connection up and running?
I appreciate your help!

  • MSI GX740 develops unusual problems after restart!

Upon restarting my computer after downloading a couple of windows updates, I immeadiatley noticed something. A lot of the keys on the keyboard aren't being recognized. I'm not sure why this is happening. It's been over a week and nothing is changed. For example: A,S, and D work but W doesn't! Other keys aren't functioning either. I have to use my on-screen keyboard now, which is a major drag. I can't play any sort of game. One thing I want to assure you of is this laptop has NEVER been exposed to liquid damage at anytime. I keep beverages far away from my baby at all costs. This is why I'm so confused. Half of the keys are inactive. I feel like I have no options left but to request an RMA form. How do I go about solving my problem? Please help me...summer is coming up and I don't want to be left like this. Oh, and also, the computer is coming up on just about 8 months old, so I can't imagine what's going on here. Anxiously awaiting replies...
    Thanks you MSI,
    Rusty

There is no MSI here, only users.
As for the keys, I doubt the problem is Windows updating, more like a broken keyboard.
    Contact MSI for repairs.
However, gaming on a laptop keyboard is never a good idea, better connect a USB keyboard.

  • Msi GX740 expresscard slot

    Hello.
I just bought an GX740 with core i7 and radeon 5870 but I am having some troubles. Os is windows seven 64 bit premium home.
I use an expresscard for making music (echo indigo IOX expresscard) but it doesnt work fine with the MSI GX740.
The problem is the following :
(Drivers are well installed, many versions have been tried with the same problem)
    - If the card is inserted before booting, the system recognize it well, and I can use it. BUT, after a few second of use, the system will totally hang up and stop responding. The sound playing will be looped. I tried to let it for more than 20 min but nothing unstucked..
    - If the card is inserted when the laptop is already online, it doesnt detect the card but a pci to pci bridge or something and the drivers can't be loaded properly, so I cant use the card at all. Expresscard is supposed to be hotpluggable....
When the system crashes, there seems to be a problem with winio.sys (seen in the event viewer), but thats the only thing I know, because there is no bluescreen so I have no dumps I can check....
The card works fine on other systems with the exact same OS and drivers so I suspect it's something to do with the way the laptop configures the card (irq, adress etc).
Also, I have the latest BIOS and all the drivers are well up to date.
Does anyone has already tried the GX740 expresscard slot, and if yes, does it work?
    Cheers!

    OMG!!
looks like msi learned nothing in the past!
please read it all here: same issue with pr200
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119513.80
    exact the same problematic.
after 8month of writing email with msi-techsupport & dev team they released a special bios "workaround" version and it worked. (also with this special bios version the expresscard has to be inserted before boot. if removed and inserted again it also does not work with this special bios)
it has to do with bios parameters which are not correctly set for the expresscard slots. it`s definitly a msi failure  and has absolutly nothing to do with the certification of the expresscard.
all expresscards with TI chipset are good for audio use. i`ve also tested with certified cards.
so in short: the result was > msi was only able fix it (partly) with a special biosversion. (problem is sitting in the pci-register values for the expresscardslot
i have all emails saved and can send them out on reqest if somebody needs them for further analysis as i was working on this problem with special pci-register software to show up msi thats their problem. so we were able to fix it for the pr200.

  • MSI GX740 antialiasing problem

    I've recently bought a gx740 (eu version, i5 450m)...gpu 5870m. I've a problem with antialiasing.
So far i've tried these games:
JustCause2demo, Company of Heroes, The Witcher, MafiaIIdemo, GTAIV.
In gtaIV there's no option for AA, so no problem, MafiaII works fine with AA....the other games don't work well.
I installed the last catalyst drivers, 10.10 (before i had the "official" ones from msi, i think 8.something)...
With msi drivers i had problems in game menu, too....now with 10.10, just during the game.

Any resolution or setting i tried with AA enabled (2x,4x,8x... no matter what), it results in this problem. Disabling the AA, the games work just fine.
    I don't know....MafiaII works well with AA....i don't think it's a broken GPU.
    What can i do?

A firmware update was released for the VBIOS of your laptop. If you haven't applied the patch yet, perhaps give that a try. You can download it here: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=firmware&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1999
Only do the update if your laptop is 100% stable and use the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< as it's the safest method.
i'm trying to download it but i can't....i click on this "1727_023.zip", then appears a screen that says "The specifications may change without notice. The actual products sold are different from areas. Please check the detailed specifications with your local dealers." and i can't see any download button.....
i know that this vbios update just downlock the gpu on idle...can this be the solution?
Then, last thing....I know that the latest vbios firmware downlock permanently the GPU whereas the last but one firmware downlock the GPU only on idle... (http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/457412-msi-gx740-5870-1gb-ddr5-147.html)
the one on the msi site (basing on the date), it's the last but one right?

  • Have problems with my newly bought MSI GX740

Hey, I already have problems with my newly bought MSI GX740 from JME Data.
The computer is behaving very strangely. To begin with, and so it is extremely tough to boot windows and launch programs, many programs can not even begin to eg Internet Explorer or Norton Antivirus.
When you then turn off your computer and start it again, it starts, as usual, extremely tough right from the bios to load Windows, but then when it should go from the''windowscharge'' to the desktop screen is just black. The cursor is there, but the screen is just completely black.
I have tried to make a''recovery''from windows MSI's built-in recovery function in the BIOS. What it means is that it then reformat the c drive and then reinstall Windows and all programs that were on the computer from the very beginning. This can be very slow to install and when Windows is installed so the problem remains, however, that everything goes extremely slow, and some programs will not even start.
I have also tried to put energy saving options for maximum performance, but it did nothing.
What do you think? Is this something that can fix or is it only to send the rebound?

Well its kinda strange, but i managed to fix it.
I just started in the ''windows secure mode'' or whatever u call it in english, and then when windows started and windows popped up, wich said ''A system change has occured'' or something like that, i pressed accept and after that everything worked perfect

  • New vBIOS, BIOS and EC problem on GX740 (screen goes black)

    Hello,
I have a problem with my GX740 after flashing. I used forum flasher to update my BIOS, vBIOS and EC. Current versions: BIOS .10F, EC: .406, vBIOS: .031.
I use Windows 7 64 bit with SP1. The problem is that after flashing, whenever the laptop gets a little "heated" due to extensive work, the screen turns black or grey for about 10 seconds and then i got an error that display driver stopped working, but it's now ok. I tried uninstalling graphics driver and installing the one from msi page. Nothing worked. Any ideas guys?

    Quote
Alrighty, done everything properly, but the problem persists. Tried playing Tomb Raider and everything looked fine until about 3 minutes, when the black screen showed again. I have noticed that about to 65 degrees on GPU it's ok, higher than that the screen goes off.
    does it worked fine before?
    Quote
Ah, during the VGA driver installation at the end there was a message saying that there were some problems during installation,
    what problem?

Also, Driver Fusion premium query isn't so important, right?
yes its not important, but it need to be run at Safe Mode.

  • New in gx740 bios? (+ current problems)

So since the sticky topic is non-replyable, im wondering if someone knows what will be changed?
    Here are current problems:
Closing lid and reopening will make the screen to stay black. Cant turn on anymore- need to hold power button for 5 secs - not found a fix yet.
Advanced overclock menu is not available in bios menu...please enable - not found fix.
Hybernation wont work and sometimes wont wake out of sleep if ati powerplay is enabled.
Sound is sleeping for 3 seconds with realtek drivers-must be disabled in the realtek menu battery icon.
Utorrent and this notebook dont like each other - getting random bsods over time when utorrent is started - no fix found, but guess a other torrent client will work.

Please have a look at the questions I asked:
    Quote
What is your current BIOS Version?
Which operating system are you using?
Have you considered a reinstallation of your operating system?
Have you tried an EC Reset at any point?
And not have a look at your answer:
    Quote
No, that wont fix it. I had this when i got the notebook.
I have no idea to which of the above questions your answer is referring to.  Whatever the answer to that is, three more questions remain unanswered.
    Quote
Why do companys ALWAYS give the easy answers, like reinstall...
First of all, I did not give you a "company answer".  This is a user-to-user forum. I don't work for MSI, I am just a user like yourself.  Secondly, an OS reinstallation is a very effective step when it comes to troubleshooting (consider it a control case).
    Quote
Does someone has knowledge of the next bios version?
No.  I don't even know what you mean when you say "next" as you did not say anything about your current version.

  • Microphone Jack Problem on MSI GX740

Hello all, i have been having a problem with the microphone port on this laptop for a few months now, i noticed the plastic had actually fallen out ( through some sort of force from the microphone jack ) that must have split the plastic away from the laptop, the other ports are fine so i assume its because i use the mic port alot and remove and re insert the jack alot, anyway i didn't think this was something that normally happened, to cut a long story short ive gone into the laptop ( no parts are damaged as i am typing on it now,
therefore i shouldnt have voided the warranty?) and ive attempted to figure out whats wrong, now theres a metal plate that was in a sort of [ shape that was loose in the case, i dont know how it got loose but i had a look and realized it should go onto that port, so i managed to get it back onto the port, still loose, so ive put a nut from a nut and washer combination below it, holding it in place, rebuilt the laptop and tried, the port still doesnt work, something tells me the actual port pins ( gold bits?!) are broken and will need proper repair by MSI themselves, ive had the laptop a year and it has 2 year warranty, just hope that i havent voided the warranty by opening the computer, i did have to take all the ram out, the heatsink etc, but i replaced it all correctly and the computer is running correctly, its just the mic port i would like fixing, anyone with any ideas id be very greatful, i dont want to have to use a different computer to record or play games on, or even use a worse quality USB mic that i have knocking around :( many thanks in advance,
    Dantoshou

    LynnQ,
Since your MSI Product is a Vid Card and not a Motherboard and you posted in the nVidia/AMD/SiS Motherboard Forum, I moved the thread to Mutlimedia Forum for you.
    Good Luck,

  • How do I replace the frame from the monitor on my GX740?

Problem: When I move the hinges on my laptop, sometimes the screen goes black until I move it into a different position, like the light disconnects (in fact, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happens, as I can still see some stuff on the screen; it's just not lit). Having had LCD problems in the past with other machines, I figured "hey, probably just a loose connector, it happens; I should be able to just lock that strip back in place quite easily" (why they don't just make those connectors less prone to falling out - especially ones located in or near hinges - eludes me).
Sure. If I can just get inside the monitor frame. Which it seems I can't. I removed the screws, but when I tried to pull off the plastic frame, it cracked. The plastic frame around my monitor now has visible cracks in it.
So now I need to know not only how to remove this frame, but if possible, also where I can get a replacement for just that one part. I'll gladly take just an answer to the first part and live with the cracked frame as long as I can do something about the loose connector, but if there's an answer to the second part as well, that'd be really neat.
So...how do I remove the frame? Where can I get a new one now that I've ruined this one? Are there spares? Are they expensive?
I'd greatly appreciate a quick answer to the frame removal question, as I intend to bring this computer on a trip overseas and would like the LCD light to not have disconnected completely by the time I arrive, so I'd like to properly attach it before it's time to leave.
I've never had a machine that's so hard to open. This strikes me as quite user-unfriendly design, especially given how little it takes for an LCD connector disconnect, especially one located in the hinge area of a laptop.

I'm not certain they are the same as the GX740 but I would I imagine they are very similar.
As far as finding another bezel, your best bet might be ebay.

  • GX740 GPU broken

    Hello everyone,
I was hoping that someone here could provide me with some advice or tips
    I have a MSI GX740 with a Mobility 5870
It is about 3 years old.
Never had any big problems with it aside the fact that from time to time it would autoshut down because of the gpu temps running high.
Now however im afraid the gpu is broken.
I enterd the bios to check on the bios version when the fan started spinning bigtime and after a minute the laptop shutdown again ( guess due to overheating eventho i do not know why) with the difference that now it will not start anymore.
laptop turns on but thats it. getting black screen.
I suspect that my gpu has finally broken down since earlier that day the laptop also shut down suddenly a couple of times due to overheating.
Now im already hunting for a new mxm gpu tho i have to admit that there kinda hard to find.
What i however would like to know is if the gx740 has an onboard gpu that i could use in the meantime while im searching for a replacement 5870 gpu.
I would also be very happy with any other advice you could give me regarding this laptop.
    With kind regards,
    Jim

    Hey Adonis,
    Thank you for your reply.
Yes i saw that post but technicly its not an upgrade but rather a replacement.
I want to have the same graphics card back or if thats not possible maybe a bit slower.
I never took it apart myself but brought it away regulary to be cleaned.
As i said i never really had any big problems except the overheating problem that everyone knows.
Took care of that right in the beginning by updating the vbios.
Im definately not new in this brange so i do know what im looking at when its open.
I even opend it myself yesterday to clean and refitt some pieces with the hope that it would start again.
    No luck unfortunatly.
Do you know if this model has an onboard gpu that might be activated in case the big gpu breaks?
Would sure give me atleast something while im searching/waiting for replacements.
Btw any advice on replacing this card with in case im unable to obtain a 5870m?
I do have to say that im looking for something lower then since heating issues prevent me from looking the other way.
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Request to swap fn an ctrl keys on GX740

I want to be able to swap the key. I would ask to you also if there are problems to break the keyboard if i physically remove the keys with a screwdriver after apply the change to the bios.
i need to know also more few things:
1 is there a way to overclock the CPU?
2 is there a solution for the matrix pixel dancing problem?
3 i've notice that the ram has, like the hard disk, a reputation of 5.9 /7.9 on windows 7 bench tool. Is there a way to increase the performance of the ram?
    Thank you very much

  • Request: BIOS for GX740 to swap Fn and Ctrl key.

    hi,
I was redirected from this topic https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=139362.0
Apparently there is no BIOS function in GX740 for the owner to swap Fn and Ctrl key.
Really appreciate it if it's available.
    Thanks.

  • REQUEST: Switch LEFT Fn key with RIGHT Ctrl key for GX740?

Hello Svet, is it possible to switch the LEFT Fn key with my RIGHT Ctrl key on the GX740?  I can say I never touched the right Ctrl key and having both Ctrl keys side by side on the left of the keyboard will make it infinitely easier to hit any one of the Ctrl keys when gaming.

I think what he means is, that where most people want the two [Fn] and [Ctrl] keys swapped on the left of the spacebar, he wants the [Fn] key swapped with the [Ctrl] key to the right of the spacebar instead.
(Off-topic: one thing I do like with my Wind U135DX, is that there is a second [Fn] key on the right-hand side of the keyboard , but I never had a problem with the [Fn] and [Ctrl] keys needing to be swapped, I just got used to it instead )

  • Mic driver GX740?

So recently my hdd bricked and I lost everything (thanks seagate...)
Thankfully I had access to a 7 pro install disk, so I'm back up and running but not exactly at 100% yet...
I've updated everything I can think of and while everything seems to be functioning properly I know I'm missing pieces. I can't seem to find the old realtek audio program, though I've installed the driver. My speakers and audio outs work fine but I miss the finite controls given by the program, as well as have a problem with a recognized but useless mic. Two show up in my sound panel (also my speakers show up doubled) but neither options pick up anything. Ideas?
I know I'm missing the realtek program
There's a problem with my CIR driver, which installs properly then just isn't happy...
other than that I'm at a loss for things i'm missing. I've done video/sound/lan/RST/wlan driver updates and probably a couple else i'm forgetting. A comprehensive list of preinstalled bits would be very handy if any one has access to one.
    thanks for the help
    Mike

Try installing the drivers from the MSI website for your GX740: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=nbdriver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1999
Install System Control Manager too: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1999
