H.263 and MPEG-4 codec

Hi All,
I badly require java source codes for H.263 and MPEG-4 codec. If anybody can help me to find these, I greatly appreciate. Even some help to develop one by my own would be a great help.
Thanks in advance.
Eranga

I figured out how to do it and am now done at least with Intel's h263. Intel's lives in an avi format so it wasn't so tough to deal with.
Now I'm working with HotMedia...

  • Missing HDV and MPEG-2 CODECS in new CS6 Creative Cloud install

I've been searching all through the forums trying to find a solution and I can't find anything that actually works for me.
I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and joined the creative cloud and downloaded Premiere Pro CS6 as well as all the other programs available. I went to import some HDV footage that I had captured into FCP7. The footage doesn't show up correctly just looking at it in Finder, it registers only as an audio file. So I went to import it to PP CS6 and it said the codec was not available. The HDV preset was showing as an option when I started PP but the files don't work correctly.
I have looked through a bunch of solutions and none match what I need. I tried the deactivate/reboot/reactivate and it didn't work. I checked the addexporter.txt file that some said would help get the codecs working in AME and it has everything looking correct:

One forum commenter said there was an easy fix to his problem on a help page, but I can't find it.

I have a similar situation, except my HDV clips show up correctly in Finder and play fine (video & audio) in QuickTime, but Premiere Pro refuses to import it. I wonder where PP is getting its codecs - QuickTime obviously has the codecs to play the HDV clips?
Premiere Pro CS6 with 6.0.1 update installed
    Mac OSX v10.7.4
New Mac tower desktop with virtually nothing else installed. I did install QuickTime 7.6.6, based on a suggestion I found on this forum, in addition to the QuickTime 10.1 that came with Lion.
Source footage: HDV clips captured in FCP6/7, mix of 1080p30 and 720p30
Scenario: When trying to import or open the clips, pop-up window with error message "Codec missing or unavailable."
Where could I find the codecs that PP can use to open HDV clips? Any help will be appreciated!

  • Convert and Edit .mod files Without Using MPEG-2 Codec Download?

I transferred some files from a PC to my Mac that were shot on a Panasonic camcorder and are .mod and .moi files. I've searched for solutions and I've only come up with MPEG streamclip along with paying $20 for the MPEG-2 codec download. Is there anyway around doing this? I do not have access to the PC nor do I have access to the computer, so I need to convert them from my HD

Spend the $20 and use Streamclip.
It has a "batch" feature which can convert your files while you sleep.

  • IMovie 11 and Canon XF Codec used in Canon XF300 and 305

Does anyone know if iMovie11 will support the new video codec Canon is using their just-released professional camcorders, the XF200 and 305?
    Canon's description states:
"Canon's adaptation of MPEG-2 for the XF305 Professional Camcorder, named the Canon XF Codec, ensures the widest compatibility with existing industry infrastructure and non-linear editing (NLE) systems. And by using an MXF file wrapper, video and audio can be wrapped in a single file along with important metadata. The codec's 50Mbps constant bit rate provides the bandwidth needed to capture the XF305's superior resolution and color in spectacular detail."
    Thank you.

No, it will not work in iMovie.
This is a bit of a mismatch. A $7500 camera with a $20 editing app.
You can edit with this camera using Final Cut Pro and ProRes422 intermediate codec.

Having said that, if you have Final Cut Pro installed on, say, a Mac Pro with a fast eSata drive array, it might be worth trying in iMovie, just to see. But you would need FCP just to get the codec.

  • Could someone please recommend the best program to convert AVI and MPEG files for use (and exporting) into IMovie 11?

Hi - I understand I need to convert AVI and MPEG files for use within IMovie 11. I have one particular file that has a watermark stating "Created with Flip4Mac WMV Demo". Can someone please recommend the best program for a novice?  Thanks!

    Hi Susan,
It is no simpler converting vobs to mp4 than mpg (mpeg2).
There is *always* a loss of quality converting video from one lossy-compressed format to another, e.g. mpeg2 to mp4.
So, if you want to not lose any quality, then converting vobs to mpeg2 (mpg) is the thing to do (since there will be no video/audio re-compression), assuming Lr5 will accept them (sorry, but I do not know). example commands:
    Mac: ffmpeg -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mpg
    Win: ffmbc -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mpg
If Lr5 won't accept them, then you can convert to mp4 with minimal quality loss using a command like:
    Mac: ffmpeg -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mp4
    Win: ffmbc -i myvideo.vob -sameq myvideo.mp4
You may need variations of these commands depending on encoding of vob.
Note: -i means -input-file; -sameq means -same-quality, as much as possible.
ffm... is smart enough to avoid re-encoding, if possible, when -sameq is used, and makes reasonable choices for audio/video codecs based on extension of output file.
Of course, you'll need to download/install ffm... program if not already on your machine, and execute commands in a terminal or command window.
Do keep us posted please .
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Have qt mpeg-2 codec but suddenly neither QT player, nor VLC will play eyetv mpeg-2 files.

A while back, I got an eyetv 200, which I use regularly. I ended up buying QT mpeg-2 codec and installing it...and ever since, I could play mpeg-2 files in either QT player, VLC or mpeg streamclip. Suddenly, however, QT player tells me that "This file is not a movie" and VLC comes up with a garbled vid file. Mpeg Streamclip does play it, however, as does eyetv.  I have tried reinstalling QT and getting the newest version of the codec via my apple acct download, have reinstalled perian as well....but nothing seems to fix this issue. I don't know if anything is corrupt. I have run permissions repairs, and it's not long since I repaired the disk as well. My system is as up to date as a G5 imac can be on Leopard...and I've got plenty of ram! 1.5 GB... Any suggestions on what the problem could be? Could it be a recent update of something on mac OS that is interfering? Are there any pref files I should trash?
One side note, about the same time, my firefox started asking for a new version of Java which does not exist for my mac. I was trying to use speedtest.charter.net, and it had been working, but suddenly required an unsupported JAVA....it did work in Safari, however. Don't know if these issues could all be related somehow.

just discovered that .ts files are also no longer playing in neither QT Player nor VLC. would really prefer not to have to reinstall my entire system!

  • Missing MPEG-2 Codec even after installing 6.0.1 update Mac

When I installed CS6, the Mpeg-2 codec was never installed in Media Encoder. I found a note on the web to install the 6.0.1 update for AME, but even after doing that, there still is no MPEG-2 codecs available.
Any of the presets that encode for DVD will fail with an error.
    Is there a fix?

What CS6 suite did you install?  Certain suites and products install a limited list of export formats for AME, for example Flash Pro or the Design & Web suite.  If you have Premiere CS6 you should have a full list of exporters tho', including MPEG-2.  If that's the case, make sure you also update Premiere to 6.0.1.
If uninstalling and reinstalling CS6 doesn't work, you may want to check if there are any pre-release versions of Adobe products on your system and uninstall those, and also try running these cleaning scripts.
BTW, other users have reported problems with missing exporters, here one thread with a workaround that has helped...

  • NO AUDIO with QuickTime Pro and MPEG-2 Playback

I just purchased Sony Camcorder (Sony DCR-DVD610 DVD Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom) and recorded some movies. But when I tried to view it through my iMac (Version 10.4.11) the MPG format files wouldn't played.
So I purchased "QuickTime Pro 7.5" and "MPEG-2 Playback" -- Well, the movies finally played BUT NO AUDIO at all. I also downloaded several supported codecs but still failed -- NO AUDIO.
Anybody knows the answer?. Please help -- Thanks much!

So I purchased "QuickTime Pro 7.5" and "MPEG-2 Playback" -- Well, the movies finally played BUT NO AUDIO at all. I also downloaded several supported codecs but still failed -- NO AUDIO.
All DVD camcorders I've seen use AC3 for audio. As QT Kirk pointed out, this audio format is not supported natively by QT which is why you need the latest Perian or the A52 codec installed.
The camcorder comes with 3" DVD+RW. Since my computer is iMac with CD/DVD drive slot on the side, I can't play the 3" DVD. The drive only play the regular 6" CD/DVD...
I believe Rick was trying to find out if you can connect the camcorder via the USB cable (closing iMovie '08 if it opens) and access the movies at the file level directly from the camcorder. If you can see the files on the camcorder, then they can be copied to your hard drive and/or opened in MPEG Streamclip for viewing/conversion to iMovie '08 "edit" compatible file formats. The free MPEG Streamclip application, together with the $20 MPEG-2 Playback component which you have already purchased, will allow you to convert your video files to DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 video with DV, AIFF (Big/Little Endian), Uncompresses, AAC, etc. compatible audio. DO NOT CONVERT TO APPLE ANIMATION OR APPLE VIDEO COMPRESSION FORMATS as they will import and edit but not export properly from iMovie '08. DO NOT USE QT PRO (or any other QT application) TO CONVERT YOUR FILES as this work flow will not retain the original audio content. (I.e., your original QT Pro conversion attempt may have lost the original audio content and, if so, no added component will now allow you to hear the non-existent audio.)

  • MPEG and MPEG-1 the same?

Are MPEG and MPEG-1 files the same thing? If so, MPEG-1 is listed as an import file format under "Tech Specs" on the QT Pro site. How come I get an error when I try to open my MPEG files? Is it the wrong fuel, Kirk? When it says QT Pro can import MPEG-1, what does that mean exactly? When I open a file, am I "importing" it?

You need to examine the file "contents" and not the file "extension" when trying to view .mpg files with QT Pro.
In the old days we would distinguish the two "flavors" of MPEG files by using .mpg for MPEG-1 formats and .mpeg for MPEG-2 formats.
It doesn't work that way any longer and many other file extensions can use MPEG-1 formats inside another "wrapper" (.mov or .avi).
If you get the error message (-2048) when you attempt to open a .mpg file it is safe to assume that the file is actually MPEG-2 format. These files require the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 more, from Apple).
If you get no error message (but the player window opens and doesn't show any content) use the Movie Info window to determine the codecs and formats used in the file.
    History:
MPEG-1 is like VHS and not much software creates it any longer. Normal size is 352X240. It brought us the .mp3 audio file. Let's just let it die and go away.
MPEG-2 is the current format of most DVD's. Normal display size (in QT Pro) is 640X480. Looks and sounds great but needs improvement.
MPEG-4 is the new kid on the block. Up to High Definition display resolution and numerous audio formats that allow up to 24 channels of audio.
The file extensions used to be: .mpg, .mpeg and .mp4.
No more. Now you can have MPEG-1 formats inside .mov or .avi containers. You can also have .mp4 files inside .mov containers. .avi files don't seem to play by any "rules" any longer. They are a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.
Hopes this helps, or at least makes you hungry.

  • How to install QT MPEG-2 codec?

I'm on a PowerBook 1.67, 10.4.6, QT Player v. 7.1. Bought the QT MPEG-2 codec from Apple Store online. Selected folder "For QT 6.4 and later and Intel Macs" ... double-clicked on "QuickTimeMPEG2.pkg" to install and apparently nothing happens.
I am trying to use mpeg streamclip to extract some footage from a home DVD and export for iMovie use. When I attempt to open a .vob file in Streamclip, it tells me that this MPEG-2 codec is not installed.
For double confirmation, I looked in HD/Library/QuickTime and didn't see any corresponding "MPEG-2" files. I STF but didn't see anything other than what I've mentioned above. Any help is MUCH appreciated.

Looked in Sys->Library->QT, there was nothing with MPEG-2. There are items for MPEG AND MPEG4, yes, but nothing with MPEG2...wouldn't it say MPEG-2 if it installed correctly?
It was $20 from Apple Store; yes, I'ver restarted a few times.
    Help. Please. Thanks.

  • Problems With MPEG-2 Codec

I've been having problems with Apple's MPEG-2 codec for Quicktime.
All my 640x480 movies are labeled as 720x480, and when I convert them to .mp4 with VisualHub (third party software) it stretches them to 720x480. It didn't do this before I got the codec.
Is there any way to fix this?
Alternatively, how do I uninstall the codec?
    Thanks.

I am using the Sony HVR-Z1U camera. I have firewire connection on the camera that I have connected a Sony HVR-MRC1K memory  recording unit to. The tape in camera starts the recording then the digital recording kicks on. I have to always have a tape in camera to start recording onto firewire connect digital hard drive recorder. As I mentioned in my previous post, the HVR-MRC1K records to a 32 gb compact flash high speed card and saves files as M2T files (MPEG2) I covert/transcode the files using Clip Wrap software to Quicktime .MOV files. I am them able to import them into FCP X and or iMovie. Once in FCP X the files play, but will skip or drop frames. Again there is no issue on my other mac using FCP 7. I don't even have to transcode files in Clip Wrap. They import automatically using a connected USB drive and Compact Flash Card. I really would like to use FCP X and move forward and not have to take a step backward using only FCP 7. I am in Fort Myers Florida. There is an Apple store nearby in Estero, Florida and one a little further in Naples Florida. I have only gone to the Estero Florida store. The Naples store had FCP classes only twice a week and the Estero store had none.

  • Here is a free mpeg-2 codec

A question that seem to pop up here all the time, I found a free mpeg-2 codec (well, a 'dec' anyway)
    http://www.softpedia.com/public/scripts/downloadhero/11-2-2-40/
Its probably not great performance (I haven't really tested it yet), but its free.
    Steve

Are you sure that this codec is for JMF? I don't think so! This might help Player objects to decode MPEG-2(pritty bad I can say) but this was naver a problem to the JMF community cause Player objects can use almost every MPEG-2 decoder there is. The problem is with Processors which are being for more things than just pressenting a video. And for processors there is no free MPEG-2 decoder.

  • HT204382 MPEG-2 CODEC query

What if my Mac is an Mac OS 10.7.2 - will the MPEG 2 Codec work in this. Also, once the MPEG 2 is played back can it be uploaded into iMovie on the mac?  thanks

Thanks guys. I have resolved the issue. Seems that the codec needed was an updated version (6.4) of the original (6.3) that worked with QT6.5 as QuickTimeKirk suggested. What I discovered from a QT FAQ was that it could be automaticaaly updated by going back through the user account where it was originally purchased from on the Apple website and hitting the download button again - this downloaded the newer version.
    Cheers

Do you know a safety software o freeware to convert pictures and videos files to jpg and mpeg? to use in my desktop with windows?

A backup stores the data in the location shown in the following link: Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes
Note, however that backup files are stored in a format that is meant for use only in restoring to an iOS device. They are not a way for you to view the photos on the computer.
If you want to save the photos to the computer and be able to view them there, the following has instructions: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC
You can also use PhotoStream My Photo Stream FAQ or 3rd party apps such as http://www.photosync-app.com
