H.264 720p cropping

Hi,
I have a 1080p 10bit uncompressed file. I need to export in H.264 720p. The original format is 16:9 1:2,35 letterbox. I want the h.264 be cropped without the black bars on top and bottom.
I set the crop (131 px up & down - 1:2,35 crop preset). After compression the result file is full frame 720p (1280x720) with no black bars but vertical stretching.
How can I avoid this distortion?
Thanks.

When i start a new h264 preset the custom frame size is grayed out. I can't force.
I just tried with the Apple TV preset and this setting has the possibility to choose the output size and the relative crop. It works very good.
The only point now is: can I use this m4v file in a Matroska container to add an Ac3 audio stream? Is m4v just a H.264 file with another extension, or is a different codec?
thanks.

It works fine with VLC using the codec avc1 , so the fix might be to use coreavc codec with mplayer, unfortunately mplayer-coreavc-svn from AUR does not compile :S
    Thank you

    It actually worked!
Can't see what was the problem with mplayer but now it plays perfectly
    Thank you!

  • I'm having problems rendering out h.264 720p files

this is what i get and my settings
my export settings were untouched and default

I was exporting h.264 files fine, but suddenly it gave me the error thing. Don't think I changed anything for that to happen.
If I export animation QuickTime won't that make huge file size's?
    Will check that Wikipedia page.
    Thanks!

  • Export Media to H.264 Blu-Ray 720p 30fps?

I have video I've shot on a point and shoot camera which shoots video at 720p (1280x720) at 30fps.   I'm able to import it into Premier CS4, edit, etc.   Then when I go to export the media to Media Encoder I'm looking for the preset to match this input - which would be 720p at 30fps.   I want to burn this to blu-ray so I'm picking the H.264 720p blu-ray preset.   However, there doesn't appear to be any presets for chosing 30fps to match my video.   It only allows 24fps or 60fps.  I've tried picking this preset, then trying to change the fps setting - but 30fps is not an option so it doesn't appear I can change it.
So far it looks like my only option is to reduce the quality of the video and choose NTSC DV Widescreen which is only 720x480.  Quality is reduced, but it does have a 30fps option to match my video.   Not sure I like that option because I really don't want to reduce my video quality.  OR I could go up to a higher quality like 1440x1080 - but not sure if that's good since it encoding to a higher quality than the actual video.
What am I missing?   Why am I not finding a 30fps option for 720p?
    Thanks!

Keep in mind I'm pretty new at this stuff - but I was trying to keep my video at 30fps since it was recorded at 30fps.   The only problem is apparently 30fps isn't supported for 720x1280.   So I'm really not sure if I should keep 720, but go with 24fps, 50fps, or 60fps.   Since 1080i had a 30fps is chose that.
If I go with 720 24fps won't it drop frames which would take away from the smoothness of the video?   I wasn't sure what bumping up to 50 or 60fps would do since it would be adding frames I didn't capture.
So being a novice, I really didn't know how to handle this.
Any suggestions on the "preferable" way that I should handle this type of video?
Thanks - I appreciate the advice!

I am somewhat new to Adobe Premiere and definitely new to CS5.  I have some uncompressed source footage that is recorded at 720p using the FRAPS codec (I recorded it from some PC games).  When this source footage is played back, it looks exactly as it the game did when I was playing it.  There is no loss in quality whatsoever.
So I import my FRAPS captured videos in Adobe Premiere, do some editing, adjust / add sound tracks.  Now I'm ready to export.  I cannot for the life of me get the exported quality to come even close to what my source footage looks like.
I have tried several settings, but most recently I've used:
    H.264 720p 29.97 High Quality.
    NTSC
    Field Order: None (Progressive)
    Aspect Ratio 16:9
    Level 3.2
Checked the box for "Render at maximum depth"
Checked the box for "Maximum Render Quality"
    Bitrate: VBR - 2 Pass
    Target and Max bitrate 20mbps
My 7 minutes of source video is about 10gb of raw footage.  After this exporting it is barely over 1gb.  What am I doing wrong?  I have an EXTREMELY beefy computer so encoding time isn't an issue.  I just want the highest quality video I can get.  I can't even read the text from the game.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How do I convert 1080i 25fps to 720p 50fps

Hi. Most of my footage is 720p 50fps. However, a small portion of the job is 1080i 25fps. I was thinking to convert the 1080i footage in media encoder(h.264) 720p 50fps. Just so I can import all the footage into the same timeline. I thought I would make it to what most of the video looks like? Is there a better way of doing this?

You do not need to transcode the 1080 footage first. You can simply add it to the 720 sequence. Then right-click the 1080 clips in the Timeline and select Scale to Frame Size--or, if you have the current version, which is 7.2.2, the new Set to Frame Size option.

  • Audio sync issue when exporting to h.264

I've seen this issue reported many times, but can't find an answer, or whether it's simply another bug in Premiere CS5.  The same issue happens on more than one computer (PC with Intel i7, 64 bit, GeForce GTX 470, and BlackMagic video card), the video is HDV using Sony Compact flash.  Audio sync is fine throughout editing and exporting to standard DVD or h.264 blu-ray using Encore Dynamic link.  But when I export directly from premiere to create a flash video or h.264 720p video, the audio moves ahead of the video by about 4 frames.  This didn't happen with CS4. There is a similar issue if I export using MPEG2, though the audio error seems less consistent.  Have wasted very many hours, and a fix or solution would be welcome!  Many thanks.

Having the same issue here. Some kind of solution would make me so happy right now.
I've shot and edited a series of short interviews on a DSLR. So I've started with H.264 files and I'm attempting to export the final product to h.264 and the audio is very noticeably out of sync.
The only workaround I've come up with so far is as follows:
    1. Export the audio only from the original sequence
    2. Export the video only from the original sequence
3, Start a new sequence and drop in the files I just created.
When I export that sequence, for some reason, it syncs perfectly. Needless to say however, this is a huge inconvenience and time waster, especially when it comes to making further edits.

  • Saving full quality HD projects in H.264

    Hello,
I'm new to the forum been using a Mac and iMovie for about 5 years. Anyway I recently bought a Sanyo HD700 Vid cam which records onto an SD card in H.264 720p HD video. What I would like to be able to do but have yet to figure out is save my iMovie projects in full HD quality onto an external HD to view via Windows Media Center or Xbox 360 dashboard. I see no need to burn a DVD anymore as my entire home is digital and wired. Is there anybody else doing this and if so could you please help.
    Thanks,
    Ben

if you download the software called connect360, you can view your saved movies on your xbox. it's seamless and fairly easy. Using Imovie, I had to save the file using quicktime, advanced and save in the highest quality before HD, using mpeg4 compression and aac audio. I did not get the HD to work, it saved it choppy. I'm not sure if that's because my mac is 2yrs old, but i have 1080 stuff already edited on my computer and that works fine.

  • IPhoto '11 not able to playback videos

I have been trying to view videos in iphoto that I have recorded on my canon s95. The camera shoots h.264 720p @ 24fps. Any video I try to watch in iPhoto '11 starts ok for a few seconds, then starts to get jittery, choppy (whatever you want to call it), skips ahead and looses the sound. I've read in the forums that with older versions of iPhoto, there was a need to install quicktime 7 (especially it seems with snow leapord 10.6.1). Does anyone know if this applies to iPhoto '11? This seems bizare to me. Why would you need to downgrade to watch a video that has been recorded in modern format? For reference, the same problem applies in iMovie if just playing the video (not doing any editing).
Could this be associated with the stock POS hd (320 gb, 5400 rpm hitachi) apple ships with these machines and if so would an upgrade to something like a seagate momentus xt improve the playback? The laptop tends to be quite slow all the time, so I suspect that this is the major bottle neck.
Could it be the autoswitching between the intel hd graphic and the nvidia geforce gt 330m?
Also, how does iPhoto handle video playback? Is it launching quicktime within the program?
Is it possible that I need to download a new codec for quicktime 10 to get these videos to work in iPhoto? If so, where do I find and install them?
Finally, how do I open one of these videos that sit in iPhoto in another video player (be it quicktime or vlc or mplayerx, etc) to see if there is a h/w problem or an iPhoto problem.
I know some of this is not strickly related to iPhoto '11, but its where I noted the problem so this is where I'm starting
    Thanks for the help!

Yes iPhoto simply calls on Quicktime to play the videos.
Simple test: export one - just drag it to the Desktop -  and see if it will play in VLC. (Oh and QT 7 is not a downgrade, it's a very different app.) The problem is unlikely to be an issue with the Hard DIsk.
You can install Perian which will add codecs to Quicktime. Otherwise check on the site of your camera maker.

  • Video was not copied to the iPod because it cannot be played on this ipod.

I have a mp4 file that won't sync to my iPod 4th Gen.
The file is H.264, 720p, the bitrate is 1415 kpbs. Could the problem be that is has a stereo and a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio channel? It was an mkv but I used ffmpeg to change the container.
    Any help apperciated!
    Thanks.

  • CS4 Media Encoder hangs while encoding

I've seen a number of other users post a similar problem to this forum. I'm wanted to open a new post to explain my problem so that I can post a link here into everyone else's post.
I'm running Premiere Pro CS4 on Windows XP, with a 3GHz single-core CPU, and 4GB or RAM.
For some projects, AME hangs about half way through the encoding and completely locks up my computer. The problem only happens on one particular set of input files (which are H.264 720p 24fps .mov files), and it is 100% reproducible. I've tried all of the ad-hoc workarounds that I've seen posted here (cleaning out the cache directory, moving the .MOV files to a different location, deleting the .proj and starting over). Nothing helps.
I suspect the following will work:
         1. Use AME to convert the .MOV input files into a different format (.AVI?) with the same resolution and frame rate.
         2. Create a new project, import the AME-converted input files
         3. Re-export
It's annoying that AME crashes so easily (I've only been using PPro CS4 for one month, and only for five projects of less than ten minutes run-time each). I'm surprised I ran into this crash so quickly (maybe it's because a full-time software QA engineer.... but I hope not).
I'll update this post when I confirm my workaround.

    > That thing is bound to happen if  your system does not meet minimum requirements.
    > What are your specs?
    >
As I mentioned in my original posting, I'm running Premiere Pro CS4 on Windows XP, with a 3GHz single-core CPU,  and 4GB or RAM.
I'm not sure what other specs I can provide?
The video is on a rather small 400GB hard drive with 80GB free, right now.  Is there anything else I can provide?
But I'm not sure why you think this problem is related to specs.  As I mentioned, it only happens on one particular set of video files. I didn't mention that that particular set of video (720p) is actually smaller than my other projects (1080) which do not have this problem.
Also, I've been able to lock up the system once by dragging these same imported files into the timeline, and one while trying to save this project. Again, this only happens with one particular set of small input files. It's three H.264 720p files each approximately two minutes long. I've been able to do the same encoding on H.264 1080 files that are 30 minutes long with no problems.
    Thanks

  • Error with my Video or captions when I export to Encoder

I am working in Premiere Pro CC exporting to Encoder CC on a PC. I am using CEA-608 .scc file that I created in Premiere as my captions. The captions playback fine in Premiere, but once I try to export, I get the below error.
    - Encoding Time: 00:03:21
    10/15/2014 10:29:47 AM : Encoding Failed
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
Ive tried several time to export it and cant figure out why it isn't working. This is my first time working on Captions so I assume I'm making a simple mistake somewhere.
    Im exporting in H.264 720p 29.97 frames.

I had my previous note all organised with screen grabs of the three messages I wwas talking about but the have not appeared in my post!
    1) reprosses message asking to reprosses file
2)audio/video(adjustments disabled) this showed up in the adjustemnt window.
3editing error sayinh "this image cannot be rendered for editing because aperture does not support the image format"
Sorry that my screen grabs didnt work

  • Nikon D300s images too bright and interlaced.

So this is my first time shooting and editing video and I'm getting some weird errors.
I'm running Windows 7, and when I view the video files after downloading them from the card, the whites all seem too bright and blown out, no matter which media player I use. When I import the videos into Premiere CS5, the whites are not so blown out and there's detail.
BUT when I'm done editing and save the file as a HD H.264 720p 24fps file, the whites are again blown out AND there's obvious interlacing.
How do I get my whites to not be blown out, and how do I get the output to be deinterlaced?

You've told others on this forum to use professional monitors.
Not everyone has access to a professional monitor. I will never have access to a professional monitor. Not everyone is a video professional and not everyone cares to be one. I just want a video that looks good on YouTube. A professional monitor is not an option.
All I know is that on the same monitor, when playing the originals and the final exported file the whites look noticably more blown out than they do when previewed within Premiere.
The D300s only shoots in progressive, but when I export from Premiere (making sure Progressive is selected) the video looks interlaced.

  • Blurry/Pixelated Exports

Here are the details for the source files, I'm using:
    a) Canon XH-A1 : 1080i @ 29.97 frames.
    b) Canon XA1: 1080p @ 29.97 frames.
Edited video in CS6 preview monitor looks perfectly fine, so does the 'Source', however, after 'exporting' it, I see a ton of pixilation/blurriness.
I'm exporting it to a DVD, I've tried the following export settings:
    a) MPEG2 - 720p, 29.97 frames, 2 vbr (target bitrate 12),, Profile:Main, Level: High (1440) (I've tried with & without 'multiplexing' the output, no luck....).
    b) MPEG2-DVD - 720p, 29.97 frames, 2 vbr (target bitrate 12), Profile:Main, Level: High (1440)
    c) MPEG2-DVD - 720p, 29.97 frames, CBR (10 bitrate), Profile: Main, Level: Main
    d) H.264 - 720p, 29.97 frames, 2 vbr, Profile:Main, Level 3.2
After exporting it, I'm using 'Encore' to author a DVD, that's where I noticed the heavy blurriness/pixilation issue, when I preview the video...

Note that none of these are the correct size for a DVD, as Richard said. They are still HD, and a DVD will require an SD size. You want to export/compress once. I am emphasizing this, because your bitrates are too low for your HD material (so pixelated), but they are not relevant, because you need to be looking at rates for SD pixel sizes. Do what Richard suggested, and see what you have.
Yes, you may have a problem with how best to mix 1080i and 1080p, but first see what quality you have for DVD, and whether one of the formats look okay.

  • Video playback without vsync

    Hi,
when iTunes (v6.0.1)is playing a video the video refreshes partly you can can a horizontal line on the video where the video refreshes. It's like you play a game without vsync turned on. For e.g in a ego shooter when you turn fast the graphics card doesn't wait for the screen and the image is refreshed in the middle of the picture. It doesn't matter if Vsync is for D3d and OpenGL is turned on or not it doesn't effect the playback of iTunes and it doesn't matter which video iTunes is playing (H.264 720p, MP4 320x240, MP4 320x200, standard resolution trailers,...). My machine has a 16:10 Widescreen display (1280x800pixels). Is it possible that has something to do with the widescreen resolution? Is there a tool or plugin for widescreen resolutions for iTUnes. Runs anyone else iTUnes on a widescreen notebook and has the same problem?

thanks for the reply. I checked for new drivers for my grapficchip but I allready have the latest.
My system meets the requirements to HD H.264 720p and which plays fluently. So the system is fast enough. I had acually a different notebook before (widescreen display 1280x800, radeon 9200mobile) and had exactly the same problem so it can't just be me. I think...
