H.264/AVC Mac issue

Hello. I use Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 to make MP4s on a Mac. In the past, my Quicktime video Inspector would say the format of my MP4 was H.264. It would play on any computer.
Recently, AME has begun creating MP4s that say the format is AVC, not H.264.
Now when a Windows user loads the video, it asks them to activate Quicktime. It used to just play automatically in Windows Media Player.
I can't find a setting or preference anywhere in AME to change that.
Can anyone give me some advice? I realize that H.264 and AVC are basically the same thing, but I don't like my Windows users to have this issue.

@DanFCarr may have a different situation, but for me I am actually using Dataton Watchout, which will support native playback of H.264-format MP4's, but only non-native, non-optimized decoding of AVC-format MP4's, and only with the right version of Quicktime and codecs installed.  Wondering how to get AME to create an MP4 file with "H.264 Format" rather than "AVC Coding" Format (which seems like it may be related to H.264 Media Subtype AVC1?)

  • Nokia 5230 and H.264/AVC playback issues

    Hi guys
    Can someone please tell me which H.264/AVC profiles do Nokia 5230/5530/5800/N97/X6 play?
    Thank you!

    ok;
    I've found this:
    "The problem is that the Real Player itself is not able to handle MPEG4 part 10 profile (also called H264 or AVC).
    I wish the Real Player could do this, because you can get a high quality videos with small file size using low bitrates.
    It plays only MPEG4 part 2 profile (also called ASP, similar to H263).
    My conclusions are:
    1. The device itself will be able to play H264/AVC given the proper software (The Core Player upcoming version?).
    2. The website is too enthusiastic and made a mistake in stating that 5800 can play H264/AVC out of the box. :-["

    So i suppose same is the case with 5230.

  • Which is better for solving Mac issues

    I have been experiencing Kernel Panics and program crashes. I want something that is good for testing hardware and OS issues. Can either of these find corrupted data files? I am looking at two utilities for purchase. Which is better for solving Mac Issues?
    TechTool Pro
    or
    Disk Warrior?

    When you say "complete bootable backup" do you mean that it contains the OS + all my applications? Basically a clone of the start-up?
    Yes, you have that very clear. I use Tri-backup or CCC for this normally, but there are other options.
    If I have this clone, and I start getting issues on my Mac, I can Zero the HD and reinstall the OS via the clone (including all the applications)?
    Yes, and if pressed for time you can just keep working off the Clone.
    I can Zero the HD and reinstall the OS via the clone (including all the applications)?
    Yep, right back to 100%, excluding HW issues.
    With all my software... it takes a day to reinstall all of it to a complete image.
    Yes, the only sensible thing is a Clone... or two. Most problems can be overcome by simply Verifying/Repairing the HD once in awhile, Repairing Permissions before and after every update/upgrade, and turning off Auto Updates in SW Update CP... wait a couple of weeks and check these forums for the number of problems with any update.
    PS. DiskWarrior has saved me hundreds of times from having to do complete new Installs or cloning back of Installs, I figure that's saved me 10's of thousands of hours & grief... I appreciate Alsoft so much that I don't even go for the generous upgrade offers on new versions... I just buy the new version completely at Retail.
    PPS. Funny thing, you'll read something like DiskWarrior is a one Pony Dog Show or something... just does one thing... I just have to laugh outloud... Yeah, the one thing is... cure my incurable Mac Problems 99.9% of the time!

  • H.264/AVC Encode

    Hiya,
    we all know our video guru el_loco whom I have known a long time and who helped me two consecutive years to get MY PHONE. This process is based on him.
    Our N95 8GBs are HW accelerated for 640X480 REZ'd MPEG4/MP4s and 320X240 REZ'd H.264/AVCs.
    I personally prefer H.264/AVC over MP4 just because it is bit clearer and well saturation level.
    So, I have been trying to find out which converter does its best to convert **bleep** to good H.264s.
    So, I use Videora iPod Converter.
    It uses internet occasionally.
    When you open it;to avoid so many confusions directly create a new profile.
    Name it anything you like.
    And the settings are:
    It goes in this way:
    Settings>New Profile
    General: Profile Name
    iPod 1-pass-ffPPEGVNB
    Video>General>H.264, Baseline Profile, Level 1.3
    (Lets keep General2, and general3 untouched)
    Bitrate:
    ABR
    512(it is enough for me, but there is another option-576, if you want more experiment try it, but leave 768 or higher)
    Max resolution:320x240
    Audio: as you wish, but 64 AAC-LC is enough for me.
    Thanks.
    Any correction, el_loco welcome.

    Hi,
    Just some clarification so I don't continue wasting hours encoding video!
    I've been trying for ages to get H.264 working on my phone at 640x480 resolution. So if I'm understanding this post correctly, the N95 can't go above 320x240 for H.264??
    Don't get me wrong: MPEG-4 looks awesome on the N95 handset, but H.264 would be much, much better for tv-out...
    And can it still support H.264 using widescreen resolutions below 320x240?
    Thanks,
    Jessica

  • H.264/AVC software encoding for cameras

    Hi All,
                 Please let me know, how can we activate H.264/AVC video encoding (new feature in Flash player 11 [H.264/AVC software encoding for cameras]) using actionscript 3 in AIR application, I think, it could not be by default as there are no updates available for flash builder 4.5. So, how can we pick the encoding option. Any new API or methodology for this?
    Any one any idea??

    H.264/AVC software encoding is not turn on by default.  You need to assign the NetStream.videoStreamSettings property an H264VideoStreamSettings object.  Here's a very simple example;
    package
              import flash.display.Sprite;
              import flash.events.NetStatusEvent;
              import flash.media.Camera;
              import flash.media.H264VideoStreamSettings;
              import flash.net.NetConnection;
              import flash.net.NetStream;
              public class TestAVC extends Sprite
                        private var _nc:NetConnection;
                        private var _ns:NetStream;
                        private var _camera:Camera;
                        private var _h264Settings:H264VideoStreamSettings;
                        public function TestAVC()
                                  _h264Settings = new H264VideoStreamSettings();
                                  _nc = new NetConnection();
                                  _nc.client = this;
                                  _nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onNetStatus);
                                  _nc.connect("some fms server");
                                  _camera = Camera.getCamera();
                        private function onNetStatus(e:NetStatusEvent):void
                                  switch (e.info.code) {
      case "NetConnection.Connect.Success":
                                                      _ns = new NetStream(_nc);
                                                      _ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onNetStatus);
                                                      _ns.client = this;
                                                      _ns.attachCamera(_camera);
                                                      _ns.videoStreamSettings = _h264Settings;
                                                      _ns.publish("testAVC");
                                                      break;

    I cannot open PDFs attached to my Mac Mail messages. The following pops up:"There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." Would this be an Adobe issue or a MAC issue?

    It very possibly can be an email issue. Some email providers encode files to make transfer faster. When pdf files are decoded, it could break them.
    The first thing to try if you haven't already is to save the attachment (without trying to open it) to your desktop and THEN try to open it. Another would be to have whomever is sending the files to you, Zip them first.

  • How to play MPEG 4 (h.264 / AVC) videos that were encoded for the PSP

    Hello,
    I am trying to play a video in MPEG 4 (h.264 / AVC) format (file extension .mp4) that was encoded to play on the Sony PlayStationPortable (480x272) via QuickTime. The video plays perfectly via VideoLAN, mplayer or the PSP, but QuickTime only opens a black screen without any error message.
    I am using the most current version of QuickTime on WindowsXP or Windows Vista. I have the same problem on either system.
    Can anybody tell me how to resolve that problem? I do not want to reencode the videos, though.

    QuickTimeKirk,
    My goal is to create a looping animation for playback on an iPod. Should be easy right? Not with the QT!
    I did the following:
    1) Render a bunch of frames destined for looping.
    2) Convert them to an uncompresses ".avi" file.
    3) Open the ".avi" file in QT Pro.
    4) Click "Loop"
    5) Play movie. It loops nicely.
    6) Click "Export" and select "Movie to QuickTime Movie"
    7) Click "Save"
    When I play the saved ".mov" file (You said QT retains the metadate requiring looping) IT DOES NOT LOOP!
    To recap: This is a Quicktime movie. I selected looping when I created the bloody thing.
    It
    does
    not
    loop.
    This *****.
    This is REALLY, REALLY, ANNOYING! *** is going on with this QT Pro crap? I simply want to loop the movie. Is that really asking too much? I don't think so.
    Can someone, anyone, please, please, tell me how to force the movie to loop on launch. Forcing an iPod user to muck about and select looping (can they even do that?) is not an option. Period.
    Please help me,
    Doug

  • 720p30 H.264/AVC is converted to 720p30 AIC

    iLife makes a nasty change from 09!
    In the past one could choose a camera that shot 720p30 H.264/AVC and know no time would be wasted converting to 720p30 AIC. True, editing wasn't as smooth, but lots of time was saved.
    Now iMovie treats 720p30 H.264/AVC as though it were AVCHD and forces an optimize!
    Clearly, for many of us this is NOT OPTIMAL behavior!
    PS: I've always wondered why iM didn't use a good deinterlacer. So I put some DV clips through Comressor's super good deinterlacer. About 5 minutes took all night. So, I guess that's why they use a poor one.
    It looks like Apple is determined to work internally only with progressive AIC.

    Sorry Tom, the Pana 700 may say AVCHD on the body but it does not USE AVCHD when it records 1080p60.
    You need to read more closely. I said "you may read ..." which means you may read marketing materials that say X. I never said AVCHD on the body has anything to do with BD. So why are you connecting these two?
    It is not software or hardware alone that determine what is possible. It is the Sony-Panasonic definition of what IS AVCHD, what IS BD, and what may moved to what.
    Signing an AVCHD and/or BD license requires certain things and excludes certain things. Obviously, it allows you put the AVCHD badge on product as long as it CAN do all that is possible with. And, obviously, it allows a camcorder to record other formats such as DV and H.264 as Panasonic does.
    Neither AVCHD nor BD allow 1080p50/60. Likely they could. Perhaps they will. But, they don't now. The BD spec does not allow 1080p25 or 1080p30 although the AVCHD spec does. But you can copy 1080p25 or 1080p30 AVCHD to a disc that will play in a BD player IF the builder has a license for AVCHD.

  • Issue with H.264/AVC export

    I am a beginner with Adobe Premiere so please excuse me if this is a naive question and terminology.
    The first thing I tried to achieve with Premiere is to convert/compress videos that I capture by my camera. I have been doing this for long long time using NCH Prism Video Converter and It does a good job. It uses AVI container with H.264 codec and compresses a lot while you don't feel much in quality loss. I have been trying to export a video to the same level of compression with kind of similar quality with Premiere, but I haven't yet been successful. The exported files are always larger and lower in quality. I have uploaded the original captured video as well as samples of the videos compressed by Prism and Premiere on my dropbox:
    Original (.mov 131.72 MB): https://db.tt/Qp7TUkPt
    Prism (.AVI 18.94 MB): https://db.tt/sREwmMdD
    Premiere (.MP4 20.67 MB): https://db.tt/fhmiRUNk
    What I'd like to find is the right format in Premiere to get pretty similar quality&size as I get with Prism. As you can see in the above videos, the Premiere one is larger and more noisy (pixels are distorted especially when the camera is moving and you can see noises that cause pixels to seem jumpy/jaggy - sorry I don't know the exact name of this kind of noise).
    I tried MediaInfo to see what codec Prism is exactly using. It seems that it is using AVC, but I have no idea on how I can install/use AVC codec in Premiere. Below you can find the detailed information about the codec/format that Prism uses.
    I really appreciate any suggestion.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 and H.264/AVC video import issues

    Hello!
    I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and using Premiere Pro CS5.5.
    I record HD videos using a Canon EOS 7D in .mov format. I don't have any issues importing these files to Premiere, but I do have problems with the convered equivalents. I'm currently using AVS Video Converter 7 to convert the original files to .AVI files.
    The main difference between the two versions (original and converted) is the bitrate and audio codec, but Premiere only imports audio when I drag the .avi file to it. What strikes me dumb is that a poor editor like Camtasia Studio has no problems reading the files (both the audio and video track), but Premiere does.
    I also have the MainConcept Codec Suite, but that doesn't help.
    Can someone please give me a better solution than telling me to convert the converted videos back to a format supported by Premiere? I would prefere jugling with codecs and make it work rather than spending time converting videos back and forth.
    Intel Core i7 920, 12GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX 295.
    Thank you!

    @Jim Simon
    I have 7D footage on my hard dive right now.  4.5 minutes takes up
    about 660MB.  Which is right in line with AVCHD running at 12 to 13 GB
    per hour.
    I don't know what kind of footage you got, but I download recordings from it daily and I think that entitles me to say I know better. Maybe what you've got isn't original 7D HD footage.
    As for the solution...what I'm saying is that the "best
    practice" IS the solution.  You're creating a problem by not following
    the best practice.  If you follow that best practice, you will stop
    creating the problem.
    I already have problems. To be more specific, I'm not looking for future advice, but for ways of solving the problems I currently have. Telling me what to do from now on won't help me import and use in Premiere the already compressed files.
    @banzemanga
    Well, nothing will be resolved by complaining about it.
    What you should be doing is to request this feature.
    I'm not complaining as much as I'm saying Premiere is really PRO.
    However, i am curious why MainConcept Codec Suite can't import your file.
    Have you tried using a different video container differnt than *.avi?
    Yes, I have tried a dozen, but to no avail.
    @shooternz
    Most people using Premiere want to maintain high quality...not throw it away by using converters.
    I'm using native files too, it's just that I don't keep them that way for years.
    Editing native is seen by most to be a huge PLUS!
    Yes, I would say CPU-wise.
    Later in the evening I have found what seems to be the best solution to my issue.
    AVS Video ReMaker and MainConcept can do wonders together when it comes to importing compressed files to Premiere PRO. AVS Video ReMaker's MP4 export almost instantly converts files with no quality loss and very close to the source file's size, and these MP4 files are recognized as native clips in Premiere (with stereo audio track and clean responsive video) thanks to MainConcept. It is excellent! The only downside is that the CPU gets more stressed (about 20-30% more of a Core i7 920), but the compressed video runs smooth (HD@50fps), needs no rendering and takes the same ammount of space as the source compressed file.

  • New to Mac - Issues with imported Excel Docs

    Imported my Excel docs from my PC and they made the trip but when I open them, some don't work properly. I have some billing statements that I made with Excel templates. Whenever I open and try to save them, I get an error message:
    Users/JaneDoe/Documents/Private Practice/Billing Statements/Jones 2 16 05 MAC.numbers
    I'm having some issues with Word documents that have tables in them also.
    I love my new MAC but have many business forms that I need to use. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your answer, I suspected as much. I've been thinking about this and have decided that since those are historical files and not working files, I'll just leave them alone and create new billing statements using Mac. It's certainly easy enough to do.
    The Word documents, though, are a different story. I've scanned pages out of some manuals and many of the pages are questionnaires with tables to indicate answers. Some documents are multiple pages and every other page I view is blank. It's difficult and sometimes impossible to delete the blank page or move the table up. If I can't salvage these, I'll have to go back into the manuals and scan the pages all over again.
    And I don't want to partition my hard drive, run Windows parallel or invest in Office for Mac because that all defeats the purpose of my transition to a Mac in the first place - ease of use.
    Thanks again.

  • Extreme with shared disk and two users on same mac issue

    Hi,
    just got my airport extreme + a 1TB hard drive for disk sharing and everything worked great until my wife came home (not her fault )
    My setup:  I have 1 mac which we both share with two user accounts plus I have a Windows 7 machine. I setup the Airport Extreme drive sharing with 'accounts' as I thought/know this will work with Windows (smb I think) which it sure enough did and I could connect to my share from both my Windows machine and my macbook air and was rather pleased how easy it was.
    My wife then came home logged on and she could see the drive and even see the root folder in Finder but saw no files whatsoever and instead of the 'sharing icon' (not sure what to call it looks like a hard disk with wifi signals) she gets a circle with a red bar in it in the finder title... so I disconnected the shared disk in finder and reconnected entering the account details again and things worked for her.  I then signed into my account and now I had the same issue... I could see disk but see nothing on it which means I have to disconnect and reconnect etc. etc.
    I even setup two seperate accounts now in the AirPort Utility for disk sharing and use one for my account and one for my wifes but the issue remains, by the way no issue on the Windows 7 box.
    HELP    the whole reason why I got this is so we can share our pictures and videos etc. on 2 machines and 2 computers with 2 accounts.

    Yes, I'd like a solution to this one as well! Did you ever find the answer?
