H.264 camera type

Flash works with all USB web cameras - but what are the
limitations (if any) on using a s-video or RGB connector on a
graphics card so a camera with enough quality for H.264 streaming
can be used? Does Flash recognise them?
As the encoding will be greater than before, what spec. will
the computer need to accomplish this?

Thanks, Hyakkidouran, I realise I should have said LIVE
streaming of high quality video. Thus a high quality camera HAS to
be connected to the computer. You write: "streaming means automatic
conversion on-the-fly in FLV format, which isn't very high quality
even at best settings, " - but with H.264 or (if On2 are to be
believed) VP6-E, with on-the-fly compression (see d3lf66 below)
high-quality streaming is being done.
d3f66
Of course, if this is not streaming, the camera does not
matter as it would be shot on anything, edited, and them
played...Oh I am dumb.
What I want is LIVE streaming of high quality video. Rang up
Digital rapids, and their hardware/software compression/encoding
solution (involving an s-video input that is recognised by Flash
Player) is around £2000 without the PC!! But that is the sort
of thing needed (using On2, they haven't the info to develop H.264
with the Flash wrapper yet).
But as I don't want to pay that much for a technology that is
about to be surpassed, I would like to get at least better quality
than a webcam - hence need some way to get s-video or composite to
be recognised by the flash player as USB cameras have a very
limited resolution.
Thanks lots for all help so far - helps put me in the
picture.

  • VSM 6.3.X add new Camera Type

    Hi,
I am unable to add a new camera type in VSM 6.3.1. I updated the axis driver pack to dp_axis-1.3-919d from the VSMS but the supported IP Cameras are not showing when I try to add IP Camera.
Can anyone support me on this? Is there a procedure that I am not following?
    Thank you.

This driver pack did not come with VSM 6.3.1 rather it is an upgrade driver pack. One of my customer is already running this pack successfully in their other sites with VSM 6.3.1.
Now, I am trying to install this driver pack with VSM 6.3.1 in one of the new site deployment but it is not showing up in Camera Type. You can check the attached snapshots for the sites showing the driver and the other sites in which even after the installation the driver is not available.
If you can guide towards upgrading driver pack in VSM 6.3.1 that would be great as I can't seem to find where am I going wrong.
    Thanks.

  • List of Camera types and Black and White.

Sorry for being slack but I've struggled with the differences between similar named  camera options on my 920. Is there a page that lists and descibes these different options and how they differ and fit together? Also, what is the easiest way to either take a photo in black and white or change a photo later? As always when on a forum I'm thinking this is all obvious but I'll get there in the end. Cheers Tim.

As for your other question, this will depend on your preferences. You can edit your photos after taking them. Surely, the Store has a lot of camera editing apps that you can use like Nokia Glam Me:

  • AME Quicktime H.264 Field Type Bug ?

No matter you choose Lower or Upper Field First in the Field Type of AME Export Settings, the rendered video is Progressive.
Could anyone confirm this is a bug please ?
    Regards

Thank you Colin and Brian for your testing.:)
I am used to using a small program called "Mediainfo" to see the property of a video and it shows the rendered video is Progressive no matter I set the field type to upper or lower field. I was misled by the Mediainfo program this time.
I admit this is my mistake for not confirming the video property with another more trusty programs like PP or AE.

  • Camera type

I want to step up my camera use to that of a prosumer model and would like some advice. I have researched a bit about Sony HDR-FX1 and it sounds good. I am somewhat confused about the newer cams such as Hd memory sticks hard drives and the like. When I try to ask salesmen they seem clueless. At the moment I edit with iMovie6 and have a Sony mini dv camera. I own a 2 year old Macbook Pro laptop.

There's an FX1 right beside me as I right this (..it's just had breakfast, so it's fairly quiet, and is lying down, having a nap).
As you've a MacBook Pro, you shouldn't have difficulty importing HDV (hi-definition) tapes from the FX1 into your Mac, because the MacBook Pro is fast enough to handle the importing in "real time" (..the HDV material has to be converted into Apple's 'Intermediate Codec' on-the-fly during importing, so that the 'compressed' HDV footage can be expanded into an editable form ..with no quality loss). Slower, earlier Macs (..e.g; G4-powered laptops or desktops..) may struggle to do that, and may import HDV at half or quarter real speed, making importing rather -l-o-n-g-w-i-n-d-e-d-
The FX1 is an excellent camera (though a bit bulky) and it shoots beautifully even in very low light (parties, weddings, birthdays, etc) because it has three CCD pickup chips, instead of one, and it has a full set of manual controls (shutter speed, aperture, gain, white balance, etc) and is heavy enough to give stable shots, instead of twitching around with every tremble of your hand.
Many newer camcorders may have hard drives inside, or may shoot onto memory chips or miniDVDs, and may store their video in AVCHD format instead of HDV (hi-def) or DV (standard tape) format.
Video stored on memory chips and hard discs, and in AVCHD format, is generally more compressed than HDV or DV format, and has to be converted into Apple Intermediate Codec (to rebuild its "phantom" frames) when you want to edit it.
Intel-powered Macs, like your MBP, can handle conversion from AVCHD with the new version of iMovie. The older iMovie HD 6 can't natively handle AVCHD, so for use with iMHD6, or with older PowerPC Macs, you'd need the downloadable "Voltaic" software to do the AVCHD-to-AIC conversion.
Hi-def miniDVDs can't be handled by iMovie at the moment; you'd need to download "MPEG Streamclip" if you wanted to import video from miniDVDs ..but, in any case, you DON'T WANT TO INSERT miniDVDs into your MacBook Pro ..as you'd never get them out again! So steer clear of those.
Essentially; all sorts of new formats exist for recording video, and the new iMovie '08, along with an Intel-powered MBP, can handle most of them. But Hi-def HDV-on-miniDV-tape, or standard-definition ordinary miniDV, remains the least-compressed and the most easily imported of all these.
Tape is also the cheapest storage. And if a bit of tape gets chewed, you lose only a few seconds of video. If a hard disc or memory chip gets corrupted, you may lose ALL your recording. Hard discs and chips have to be wiped for re-use when they're full ..so you'd need to put all that video on some other hard disc (e.g; inside or outside your Mac) to store it. But you don't need to wipe a tape: just take the tape out of the camera and store the tape on a shelf.
The FX1 has a 12x zoom lens; some more recent models, like the FX7, have a 20x zoom. However, the FX1 gives a pretty wide angle when it's zoomed all the way out, and you can fit Canon's .8x wide-angle converter onto the FX1 to give an even wider angle, with no distortion or loss of light.
The FX1 has an external mic input socket, so you can plug almost any external mic into it if you want to, and, of course, it has a headphone socket so that you can hear what you're recording. It has a 'component-out' connection for connecting to a hi-definition TV, but doesn't have an HDMI hi-def connection, which some more recent HDTVs have.
It produces marvellous results, and can shoot in extremely dim light (..I shot a juggler at a wedding; he was juggling in complete darkness with Indian clubs which had miniature lights inside. It came out perfectly. If I've got time, I may post it up here next week..)
Like all HDV camcorders, it shoots in standard definition (in 4:3 shape and 16:9) and in hi-def HDV in 16:9. It's bulky, but pretty much perfect.

  • Camera types

I've read through the other recent post about a new camera but was unsure about 'SD' and 'Hard Drive' cameras so thought i'd ask here, if anyone could help?
It may help in my explanation to say that I would like to edit footage using iMovie to eventually upload to the web and also burn to DVD. Ideally I would like as good quality as possible for both.
I understand that 'Mini DV' cameras are generally better for video that will be edited on programmes such as 'iMovie'. What are the benefits/downsides of 'SD' and 'Hard drive' cameras?
Any help you could give me would be most appreciated.
I'm looking at 4 potential cameras but I have no idea what i'm looking for, I mainly just like the look of them, if i'm honest:

  • Can't install Camera RAW 6.3 into Elements 9

I have downloaded the installer for 6.3 but when I go to install it, I get this message. "Some updates failed to install."  When it tells me to fix the problems below, all it says is:  installation failed!
I need this update in order to open RAW images from my Canon Powershot S95.
I am working with Elements 9 on both an iMac running OS 10.6.8 and onto a new MacBook Pro.
I have spent an hour reading everything I can and haven't been able to find any place to send this question to Adobe by email.  The phone system for help has more than a half-hour of wait time.
Can someone figure out this problem?
    Cherie

Thank you. I couldn't find the Mac update section at the Adobe site by
    using the various search options.
    But,
The new download 6.5 installed without trouble. However, the "open with"
command still prompted Elements to respond with an "Unrecognized file type"
error, even though Elements was not listed as the default application.
Trying to open a nef file within Actrobat still showed the nef files grayed
out as unopenable with the application.
I tried to do the manual copying of the camera raw.plugin from the Assets 2
folder as you suggested. H owever it does not appear to be used in the
newer version (6.5). Instead, there is a Profiles directory containing two
    further directories: CameraProfiles and LensProfiles.
The CameraProfiles folder contains a series of further folders for various
camera types, and each folder had a number of .dcp files. I can't find a
"camera  raw.plugin" anywhere within Assets 2.
    So, in sum:
    1) The disk image Elements9CameraRaw-6.5-mul-AdobeUpdate downloaded from
    Adobe installs correctly.
    2) The default program type for .nef files was changed to Elements
    3) Elements will not open a .nef file either from "open with" or within the
application selecting open from the menu.
Hoping you can help me work around this problem.
    Thank you.

  • Need suggestion for small USB/FW camera for chat

I have an old (Tiger, PPC) laptop. My wife has an old (Panther, PPC) mini. I'm going on a trip and want to use Skype or iChat to be able to see the kids when we talk. Can someone suggest a camera USB/firewire camera which would be good for this purpose? I don't need too many fancy features but it would be nice if it weren't big and heavy (since I'll be traveling with mine). If it's on a flexible stick or mounts to the top of the monitor/laptop screen, that would be great. I see a bunch on Amazon but it's not clear which work with Panther/Tiger, which have Mac drivers, etc. Thank you!
    Mike

    Hi,
    Yes and no (Again)
Any Camera is going to have to suit your Mac and it's input ports.
iUSBCam Utility only works for iChat.
It was originally designed to get the External iSight working on G3 computer less that 600Mghz.
Very quickly they added in the USB 1.1 camera option (At a push you could get a USB 1.1 camera to work n a G3/450Mghz processor as well)
It only works for iChat though. Or rather it is need for iChat as it manipulates the video from the camera into something iChat will accept.
I am not that sure if the current version of Skype will work with an older Camera.
If it does it will still need a Mac Driver for it if you only have USB 1.1 port on your computer.
There are two main Third Party Drivers out there for this (If the camera Manufacturer does not supply a Mac Driver)
    Macam
    and IOXperts
The IOXperts site does list a Firewire Driver for earlier OS versions (As it was not included originally) the OS has Firewire driver form about OS 10.2
They also state on their Site some restriction and workaround are needed for certain apps.
    Summary.
The same info about camera types and Drivers still applies in the broadest sense.
You will not need the iSUBCam thing for Skype.
However I have not used Skype in some while and don't know if they still support USB 1.1 cameras.
    NOTES
In theory as Skype does not produce such good a Video Pic as iChat it uses less processor power to create the Video stream.
However strangely this can have positive effects in lower Spec Machines as they can then produce a coherent Stream rather than something that breaks up due to their Processor not keeping up.
You seem to mention that you have Laptop running Tiger and the specs suggest this is a G4
What is the Mac Mini's processor.
Panther itself is not the limiting factor.
It is Input ports and availability of cameras to suit that.
Any G4 processor is going to let you have one to one chats - subject to the Internet Access at each end (Hotels can be a nightmare).

  • Adobe Camera RAW 6.7 Windows 7 Crashing etc...

    Good Afternoon,
We are using Adobe Camera RAW 6.7 on Windows 7 32bit devices. We have had reports that it seems to be unstable and crashes or that they loose the view window and have to restart it to get it back.
There also seems to be no way of viewing RAW files prior to opening them in the RAW plugin, making the process a bit hit and miss.  They should be able to open the files containing the RAW files, in the Bridge and preview before editing them in Photoshop. A temporary but not really usable workarround is that they open them through Photoshop, which gives you a postage stamp size preview, which is not really very usefull.
Has anyone come accross this before in this version of RAW and discovered a fix for it?
    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Hi Eric,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, the two camera types are:
    Cannon PowerShot G1X
    Cannon 5D Mark 3
The user has advised this version of Camera Raw and the same camera models were used on XP it is just since the upgrade to Win 7 - is there any known compatibility issues with this version of RAW with Win7?
    Thanks
