H.264 Export Too Damn Slow

I have a fast computer, but 3 minute HDV video is taking about 30-40 minutes to export from Premiere and AME 5.5. We need a solution guys. This will put me out of business

Pardon the brevity of my post. Just a bit of frustration I'm trying to express. Too bad there isn't a way to include my system setup into my profile so that it shows up on every post. It's a shame to have to preface every problem or question with a detailed description of my setup.
Anyway, I have a PC with the Sandy Valley I7 motherboard/processor combination in stock (not OC) configuraation. With 16 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 570 Video card, SSD system drive, 2-drive SATA RAID for captured media, another 2-drive RAID 0 for previews, pagefile. other external drives for exports. I have a Matrox MX02 Mini, but performance is simillar with or without it except for the effects rendering
The project I was referring to involves 3rd party effects such as Digital Anarchy Beauty Box and the Magic Bullet Suite. I am assuming that there lies my problem. It is the rendering time. My Matrox box does not have the h.264 accelerator.
When I have some time I will do the benchmark and post results

  • H.264 Conversion/Video is slowing down

I am trying to export an edited short video from Final Cut Pro 6. It was edited in HDV 1080i60f format. For some reason, when I export it using Final Cut's Quicktime conversion and select H.264 with all the settings I need, the final exported version keeps slowing the same piece of video down, and everything else looks fine. It slows down at the end of the first part before the first cut is made. Any idea on what could be causing this? It does not do this when exported in HDV or DV format but H.264 is the format i need to export it in

I think .WMV is still the leader when it comes to internet Video Delivery... second only to Flash.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/player_census/flashplayer/
The Windows PC is still the prominent Computer out there. Remember that the Windows Media Player ships with all these PC's. Therefore your .WMV 9 files will play on the majority of Computers in circulation. You may just be opening up a fresh can of worms by changing over to H.264... or merely creating unnecessary work.
I'm curious... if your .WMV's are good quality & size... why are you looking at swapping over to H.264?

Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums, but you can use Google to find information on how to install an older version of iOS on any device.
Note that you will void the warranty and loose official support by Apple.

  • Embed H.264 exported videos in Powerpoint 2010

    Hello,
We are using CS 5.5 on Windows 7 x64. Our videos are exported using the H.264 format.
    The problem is:
We can embed the video in powerpoint (assumed quicktime is installed) but when we want to play it in the presentation, it simply shows a black screen, audio works. The weird think now is, when I fast-forward for at least one time, it works. It only shows a blackscreen if you dont fast-forward for atleast one time.
The problem could be solved, by installing the k-lite codec pack, but since we are sending presentations to other people, outside of our company, this isnt a solution.
I checked it on Windows 7 x64 and x86 with office 32 bit and quicktime, I get always the same result.
Anyone else having trouble to get their H.264 exported videos working in powerpoint 2010?
    Thanks in advance
    Malte

As for using the solution in post 8 above, this has problems. If you change to ipod multiplexing, then the quality of the exported video is quite a lot worse than a normal MP4. You get crawling noise on fine detail and an odd pulsing of the noise every few seconds. (This is related to the keyframe setting.) I have a video here that students shot in a forest, lots of fine detail in the tree trunk bark and all the leaves on the tree and the floor. With the Adobe YouTube H264 preset (1080p25 @ 8Mbps) the end result is fine but can only be used in Mac PowerPoint 2011 and not windows PowerPoint 2010. (2013 version has not been rolled out here.) If I repeat the export, changing only the multiplexing setting from standard to ipod then you see artefacts in the exported file. It does work in windows PowerPoint 2010, but its not a clean export.
Back to wmv for windows and mp4 for mac, until 2013 PowerPoint arrives and then we try again.

  • RPTIME01  ( PT60 ) damn slow .... Each job taking 6 hours to run

    Hello Guys,
We have are on SAP 4.7 and CE in place. Time evaluation is damn slow. I’m clueless from where to start. It’s like finding a needle in haystack.
I came across the following OSS note; we implemented it but no change. Each job is taking like 6 to 7 hours ….
    Any help would be appreciated
“It is also possible to optimize the runtime of RPTIME01 by adjusting the T77s0 parameters LDB (group) and PCEPS (semantic abbreviation)). The default setting is a value of 0, which means that the logical database PNPCE processes packages of 10,000 persons. You can set a considerably smaller value here, for example 100. “
    Note 1016714 - Memory overflow TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED
    Symptom
When you process a large number of persons using the RPTIME01 time evaluation driver, the runtime is excessive, and the system may terminate the program with the short dump TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED.
    Other terms
PNPCE, interface object, memory overflow, time evaluation, concurrent employment
    Reason and Prerequisites
The error occurs if the RPTIME01 program tries to allocate memory space that is no longer available. Three factors affect whether the program terminates, when it terminates, and how the error affects the runtime - these are the system settings, the hardware you use, and (most importantly) the amount of data to be processed. Due to this error, the application program retains a copy of specific data for each processed personnel number (contract) in the working memory, even though this data is no longer required after it has completed the time evaluation of a person.
    Solution
The error has been corrected, and the solution is delivered by Support Package. You can also implement an advance correction. It is also possible to optimize the runtime of RPTIME01 by adjusting the T77s0 parameters LDB (group) and PCEPS (semantic abbreviation)). The default setting is a value of 0, which means that  the logical database PNPCE processes packages of 10,000 persons. You can set a considerably smaller value here, for example 100. Note that this has no effect on the error described above - RPTIME01 still does not delete the contract data from memory when logical database PNPCE does so. However, by reducing the values of LDB PCEPS, you also reduce the application's memory requirements

We have updated the support pack  to 73  and program “RPCS0000” is giving error  “Invalid SPOOL parameters”  . I created the variant in PT60 , and running 20 jobs . it is keep giving error .
After research I come to know that for program “RPCS0000 “ in source code “RPCS0F00” in the following perform it is giving error .
      PERFORM get_pri_params USING pri_params
    arc_params
      xini_pri_params
        job_name
      xnodial_flg
       xprogname
       spool_title.
    SAP note : BTC_DONT_READ_PRIPARAMS   LIKE BTCH0000-INT4 VALUE 35,  " note 770158
Any body know how to get of this error .
    FYI
    Symptom
When you create job steps, this results in a large number of accesses on the TPRI_PAR table containing the print parameters. The high access rate occurs in particular when you try to create a job with a large number of steps.
    Other terms
    BP_JOB_MODIFY, BP_JOB_READ, JOB_SUBMIT, LBTCHDEF, read_old_jobdata
    Reason and Prerequisites
This is a program error that causes superfluous accesses to the TPRI_PAR table.
    Solution
Import the relevant Support Package. For technical reasons (upgrade problems), correction instructions are not available.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Unfortunately, the first version of this note contains an error. This error becomes apparent when you edit a step in change mode in transaction SM36 or SM37 with extended print parameters (for example, e-mail address in the case of a mail printer or page area). The extended print parameters are not displayed in this case. To solve this problem, import the most recent Support Package or implement the correction instructions.
Note that the correction instructions must only be implemented if you have already imported the Support Packages that eliminate the error described in this note. The correction instructions do NOT eliminate the problem of unnecessary access to TPRI_PAR.

After i completed a full and clean installation of Lion, (it's to say not upgrading Snow Leopard but inizialing the hd and installing the new OS), every operations have started to make the laptop too much slow just working on Safari or Iphoto. How can i check out if everything is running finely or searchinf out something wrong?

  • Editing H.264, exporting with current settings results in transcode?

Hello,  I just edited a H.264 (.mov) home video and exported it using "Current Settings". The original file size was 400 MB but the export resulted in a 4.5 GB file. FCP X obviously transcodes the original material. I've also tried exporting the same file using the "H.264" setting, the result then was a 300 Mb file. This corresponds to the cutting I've done but the export process still took a lot of time and CPU to finish which proves transcode taking place again.  In the past I used Quicktime 7 Pro to cut and edit H.264, it never transcoded the files and the saving was quick an painless.  Am I missing some settings here or is FCP X currently unable to edit H.264 and export it without transcoding the original material?  Thank you

    Hi Badunit,
thanks a lot for this clarification. It perfectly makes sense in the way you describe it.
Maybe you can give me an additional recommendation ?
At the end I need my film in h.264 format and of course I'd like the film to be in terms of quality as close to the original material as possible. Original files are AVCHD HA (so h.264 codec with 17Mbit/s) in 1080i resolution.
So far I have exported my material directly from FCP X (using either the "export to h.264" from FCP itself but also trying several h.264 export formats from Compressor). All these attempts ended up with a quality that is visibly worse compared to the original AVCHD file, even when I use a bitrate for the output that is much higher than the 17 MBit of the original material. Resolution is fine but scenes with fast moves are really bad in some cases. From a "naive" point of view this seems strange to me: An output file in h.264 25MBit/s should be as good as the input material that was h.264 17MBit/s, shouldn't it ?
From what you stated above, I now wondered if I should better export to ProRes first (thus building what you called the "master" in best available quality) and than build the h.264 file from the master with Compressor in a second step ? means: go the way "Highly compressed" -> Master -> "Highly compressed" instead of directly doing "Highly compressed" -> "Highly compressed" ? Would there be any difference ? Or is the material anyway transcoded to ProRes in the background when exporting to h.264.
Happy to receive any recommendations / experiences on this.

  • H.264 export..no issues from my test

    @Steven Gotz
I have tested H.264 export in CC2014 and found no apparent  issues.

Have you also tested the unmultiplexed bluray profile *.m4v for import in Adobe Encore? (Encore has had problems with this m4v files some time ago and wanted to transcode them again...)

  • Firefox 3.5 damn slow under KDE 4.2

    Hi Folks,
I'm using Firefox 3.5 from extra and it is so damn slow under KDE 4.2.4, compositing enabled (Intel GFX, Driver version xf86-video-intel 2.8.0 from AUR, KMS on, Kernel 2.6.30).
Furthermore I installed "extra/gtk-qt-engine 1.1-1" to get a good integration into the look&feel of KDE.
The application itself has a normal performance, but the menus are very laggy.
In addition to gtk-qt-engine I've tried "community/gtk-kde4", but that seemed to make things even worse
I think that those gtk-qt engines are to blame, but I don't know where to search for issues/problems.
Another thing is: If I say "Use my KDE style/fonts in GTK Applications" in KDE system settings dialog, Firefox looks as follows
    Whats happening here?
Is there any known trick, to get a decent performance in Firefox 3.5 under KDE 4.2?
    Best regards,
    mefiX

I just use QTCURVE as a theme, it has a native KDE3, KDE4 and GTK theme giving a constant look all around plus it is better looking then oxygen imho (especially when set to AQUA).

about performance, did you disable the Ipv6 stuff in about:config? when i used FF i noticed ipv6 dns was on by default and really slowing it down. I since switched to Opera10 which is *way* faster and has a native QT4 build instead of FF's GTK.

  • H.264 export, randomly missing audio tracks

Came across a strange issue when exporting a 1080p timeline using the H.264 export option.  The first export had some strange video flickering issue, but the audio was fine.  So I re-exported and switched to CBR instead of 2 pass VBR.  On the 2nd export, the footage looked fine but for some reason tracks 3 and 4 which contained background audio, were not in the exported file, just silence.  The thing that concerns me is the only encoding option I changed was the bitrate, and going from VBR to CBR, everything else stayed the same in the 2 exports.  I have no idea why Premiere would mysteriously drop 2 of my audio tracks.  Has this happened to anyone else?  This problem has happened to me before, both with the flickering and missing audio.  I've tried the usual updating to current version of Premiere, clearing preferences, etc. and still running into this.

I work in Broadcasting and we use Quicktime HD 1080i h264 with no problems. Plus the file sizes are just amazing (Less than 100mg for a 30 seconds)

  • XGL/Beryl - Damn slow and unstable

    Hi,
I know, Beryl is quite unstable, but seems it works for so many guys, why not for me?
    I followed this instruction: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … hlight=xgl
I have a Radeon 9600 and get KDE to work with XGL actually, but when I try to configure Beryl, the manager is so damn slow. And also the speed in general is very slow and after a while it crashes completely.
I have a Centrino 1.5GHz. This is not enough for the cool effects??
Im using fglrx btw. This is important?
Sorry if I ask for stupid "unstable-support", but I really want to know if its a stability problem of the software or if I made a mistake in my configuration.
    Thanks in advance...
EDIT: When I use XGL as a session on KDE-Startup, the screen is white only and my notebook crashes (mouse still works)

glxinfo: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
kwin: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
beryl: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Then I installed the mesa-package:

  • H.264 Exports

    Hi guys, I was wondering:
Does anyone know exactly what is different between YouTube specialized h.264 exports and standard h.264 exports?

There are some minor differences, but people generally adjust them to suit their tastes anyway.
For example, the difference between YouTube and Vimeo is the bitrate.

  • H.264 export from AVCHD source results in slow-motion video; any ideas?

Hello, I'm trying to export a 1080i project with AVCHD footage using the H.264 Bluray profile.  The resulting video looks good, but runs in slow motion.  The starting footage is AVCHD 1440x1080 (1.333).  When I export using the MPEG2 Bluray profile, everything runs fine.  Thank you for any suggestions.

Thanks for your reply.  My source footage consists of MTS files from an AVCHD camcorder.  The files are 1080i anamorphic, so 1440x1080, with an aspect ration of 1.333 and a framerate of 29.97fps.  I used one of the AVCHD sequence templates in Premiere CS5 that matched the video files.
I'm exorting using the H.264 Bluray preset for 1080i.  I tried several of the profiles (1080p, etc), but they all end with the same bad result.  The video plays, but seems to be playing at half speed.  My 15-minute clip takes 30 minutes to play, even though the timline in VLC or WMP reports at 15 minutes.  The audio sounds fine, but stops after 15 minutes (as it should).  It's obviously out of sync, since the video is playing at half speed.
I have read a few other articles indicating it might be an issue with the way Premiere is interpreting the interlaced footage from the MTS files?  This is beyond my area of knowledge.
When I encode using the MPEG-2 Bluray profile, it works fine.  The video playback speed is normal.
My end goal is to edit my MTS files from the camcorder, encode using the H.264 profile, and place in an MKV container for playback on my XBMC-based HTPC.  I'm also considering exporting as a high-bitrate MPEG-2, then using another encoder (HandBrake, etc.) to create the x264 MKV.  Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • H.264 Export slow on Intel

I am trying to get an idea of the number-crunching capability of a Macbook Pro 1.8Ghz Core Duo.
I am using the Quicktime H.264 codec to convert a one minute MPEG 2 clip (HDTV, 720p).
On a Dual 2Ghz G5 PowerMac, it takes 7 minutes. The same clip and export settings on the Core Duo takes 16 minutes. What's up with that?

I would think Apple's H.264 codec would be more efficient on Apple's hardware than an open source codec. I suppose Apple's codecs are optimized for G5 at this point in time.
A lot depends on which settings are being compared to which presets. Apple tends to optimize for quality where many other applications are optimized for speed. I frequently combine many options such as multipass conversion, cropping, scaling, contrast filtering, changes to brightness, changes to saturation, change the quality preference, change volume, etc. They all take there toll on processing time.
