H.264 HD MOV file in dvd studio not importing?

I have an H.264 HD video (1,440 x 1080, 16 x 9). I was able to import into FCp and export out to quicktime successfully yet when I attempt to import this file into DVD Studio it shuts down as it tries to import, throwing an error? Any ideas.

I'm having the same problem when attempting to produce an HD DVD as recommended by Rick Young.
I have no difficulty in burning an HD DVD using MPEG compression, but I'm unable to get DVDSP to accept an H264 file created using compressor (H264 for DVDSP setting). The .mov file when brought into DVDSP4 is seen only as an audio file; it plays as video in QT and also in iDVD as expected. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

  • How can I import .mov file into dvd studio pro?

    Hi,
I have a .mov file and want to but a dvd with menu and chapters. But when I try to import the .mov file into dvd studio pro it says Incompatible format. How can I import my .mov file in to dvd studio pro?

    Two ways…
Transcode into a codec like Pro Res, import into DVDSP and let it do the encoding.
    Or better yet:
Import into Compressor, choose a DVD preset and let Compressor encode. It will make two files, separate video and audio files. Import those into DVDSP.
    Good luck.

  • "Incompatible format" when importing H.264 NTSC .mov file

    DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3. G5. OS X 10.4.11.
Created a new SD DVD project, NTSC. Tried to import a .mov file: H.264, AAC movie file: H.264 Decoder, 320 x 240, Millions, AAC, Stereo (L R), 32.000 kHz. FPS: 15.
Message: "Incompatible format". Exported to PCM audio, no dice. Exported to DV/DVCPRO and PCM audio, imported OK. Any suggestions? Thanks.
    Bob

DVDSP only accepts a fairly narrow range of file types when it comes to importing.
For video, that means files that are in editing codecs (like DV/DVCPro), if you want DVDSP's internal encoder to process them. Otherwise, if you want to encode elsewhere, you must present it with either an MPEG-2 file (usually preferable) or an MPEG-1 file. Since your source file is smaller-than-the-norm frame size, MPEG-1 would have worked for you. Though DVDSP, only accepts 23.98 or 29.97 frame rates in NTSC land. (of course, for PAL projects, 25 fps is cool)
In terms of audio, .aiff or .ac3 are acceptable.

  • I'm a bit confused. Since my original camera format was 720/60p, and I converted the footage to Pro Res422 in order to edit in Final Cut Pro 7, should I convert back to a higher quality format before sending the file to DVD Studio Pro?

I'm a bit confused. Since my original camera format was 720/60p, and I converted the footage to Pro Res422 in order to edit in Final Cut Pro 7, should I convert back to a higher quality format before sending the file to DVD Studio Pro? If so, which Compressor codec is best to use in order to preserve the original 720/60p?   How do I maintain the highest quality?

No...ProRes is a high quality format. Finishing format.  Many TV networks take that as a final deliverable.
BUT...DVDs aren't high definition...they are SD.  You cannot make a 720p60 DVD with DVD Studio Pro.  Any DVD you make will be SD...720x480.  The only HD DVD format out there is BluRay, and for that you need a BluRay burner.
As for making a high quality DVD...using the BEST QUALITY settings in Compressor will work:
#42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD
Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
    1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
    2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
    3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
    4. Now, select the green one, right click on it and select the top option "first play".
    5. Now drag your QT from the browser and drop it on top of the green monitor.
    6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
    7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
    THATS ALL!!!
NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing.  Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps.  Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.

  • How do I burn a .mov file to DVD?

I need to burn an MPEG-2 video file saved as .mov to a DVD that will play in a regular DVD player.
I have tried opening iDVD and the selecting 'Create a New Project'. When I have selected a location for the project and the main window opens, I go to File > OneStep DVD from Movie...
My understanding is that when I import a movie file, it will burn it straight to the disc without any further options. It does this, however after a couple of minutes the DVD is ejected blank and iDVD says the burn has completed.
How can I solve this problem or is there another way to burn a .mov file to DVD?
    Thanks, Dan

A green screen in an indication that the movie is in a format not supported by iDVD.   It should be in one of these formats:  DV, high-definition video (HDV), MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-4 SD, MPEG-4 HD, and AVCHD.  (From SDMacUser's post in What input file formats does iDVD...: Apple Support Communities). The post has other requirements that need to be met.
    SD = standard definition.
Open your movie with QT Player and bring up the Info window for the movie.  It will have the format:
Another possible reason is the Energy Saving settings on the Mac.  Turn off energy saving and screen saver before starting the save as disk image or burn.
Other possible fixes can be found in this tipic: Green Screen with audio after Burning: Apple Support Communities

  • Burning mov file to DVD

I am trying to burn my mov file to DVD. It keeps telling me that there is not enough space on the DVD even though the DVD states that it has 1 hour for HQ, 2 hours for SP, 4 hours for LP. The sequence is about 90 minutes.

You will need to set encoding to VBR and the lower the bitrate until your content can fit onto an SL DVD or opt for a DL DVD. Where are you encoding? DVDSP or Compressor?

  • Can't import file into DVD studio

Hi we just wrapped up a video which needed closed captioning. The company doing the closed captioning sent us a .SCC extension file which is what I'm supposed to use to embed the captioning into the video it is going along with. Unfortunately when i unzip the file it opens up with Graphics Convertor. I tried to drop it into DVD studio Pro and it won't register. Does any one have any information on working with .SCC extension files and DVD studio
    Thanks
    Victor

I have had little success importing the .scc files as line 21 captioning. Once the zip is expanded, you can try importing the .ssc file by selecting the track and clicking the "import line 21" button in the inspector. If that does not work, you may be able to convert the data to the appropriate data format for importing as a subtitle stream instead.
    hope this helps -

  • What's the best way to master an MPEG 2 file for DVD Studio Pro.

In version 4.5 of FCP I was able to use QuickTime conversion to encode to MPEG2. Now that option is not there. I hate using compressor 2 to create MPEG 2 because when I do the MPEG 2 files always seem to studder and I don't know why. I shot my project in HDV. It is about 64 minutes long. Any suggestions on the BEST way to master an MPEG 2 file for DVD Studio pro? Thanks in advance!
    Peter
    PS - I'm using FCP 5

Some people have reported a field reversal problem with HDV to SD DVD encodes. There's an Apple technical document on this issue somewhere, but the problem was supposed to be addressed by a Pro Applications update a couple of years ago... This site might help you get to the bottom of the problem.

  • Making a .EVO and .MAP file using DVD studio Pro..............

I am trying to make a .EVO and .MAP file using DVD Studio Pro. Please dont respond to this if you have no idea what this is. Dealing in real HD situaiton....trying to find a quick and dirty way to make these files as placeholders, was hoping DVD studio Pro could do it. Thanks.

you cant make them using DVD Studi pro, since they are for TRULY 1080p (23.98fps) projects using vc1.
funny thing is if you know about these files, you would also KNOW that DVDSP does not do this!
i have seen this files on the toshiba GUI but have not seen them with the blu-ray authroing compile.
also, i am going to have to say that if you are TRULY "Dealing in real HD situaiton." you wouldnt NEED DVDSP.
so ease up with the chip and if you have a REAL question ask it, if yo uare just here to show your feathers.. not interested!

  • Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

    haben
From looking at the specifications of your camera (SJCam 4000), we know already what video compression your camera is using. It is H.264.
A H.264.mov file should be supported by Premiere Elements 11. On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? And, are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 11 from a
User Account with administrative privileges? Please go to Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime to confirm that you find
presets there for the QuickTime choice there.
What are the properties of these H.264.mov files - is it 1080p30 (1920 x 1080p30)  or something else? Do you know if this camera is recording with a variable or
    a constant frame rate?
Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
    Thank you.

I am trying to import cr2files from the camera into lightroom 5 and keep getting an error message saying Lightroom can not read the files and therefore will not import them.  Has anyone had a similar problem….thanks

If you are having the same problem, i.e. a disk permission problem, open your favorite search engine and search on, "change disk permissions", and I think you'll find plenty of information on how to fix the problem. This is a Lightroom forum. Your problem is with your operating system. There is no sense in rewriting instructions that are already available if you do a simple search.

  • Can't burn some files with DVD studio pro...Makes no sense to me

I'm sure this problem is a result of me not having understanding of video compression, or codec, or something like that, but I am beyond frustrated with this program at the moment.
For some reason I DVD studio will not recognize certain videos.
    Example...I downloaded two videos from youtube...both mp4's.
imported both into FCP for editing
Exported both to my desktop using the Export at Quicktime Movie option
Went into DVD Studio to burn to DVD. one worked, one would not.
Anyone PLEASE help, what am I not understanding about why DVD SP won't recognize these files?
    Thank you
    Todd

First, take a look at the manual.
Second. well. YouTube mp4s (h.264) Aren't in an editing codec. So when you exported as a quicktime movie you probably did so with the h.264 codec which DVD Studio didn't like.
DVDs really like Mpeg files for picture and ac3 for audio. Now you can create those first (in Compressor for example), or, DVD SP will create them for you, but only if you give them nice healty MOV files. The problem really lays in how you got them out of FCP. We'll want to know exactly what form of MOV ended up on your desktop. The easiest way to tell is to go to the Sequence menu at the top of FCP and look at the sequence settings and tell us what they are. We can help from there--there's nothing wrong with your software, at least at this point.

  • Can't Import MP4 Files Into DVD Studio Pro

I'm trying to start a DVD Studio Pro 4 project, and have .mp4 video files. When I import them with the Assets>Import tab, they come in as MP4 audio files only, not movie files. The users manual says the integrated encouder auto encodes Quick Time assets into DVD compliant formats with default Compressor settings ... but that is not happening. The MP4s play fine when I double click and open them in Quick Time Player, or post them on line they work fine in a browser. I'm confused, how do I import them to work in DVD Studio Pro? BTW, I did not create them in FCP, nor do I know how to use Compressor yet. I have MPEG Stream Clip but don't know how it would help. Thanks, Tom, Miami.

Use compressor to convert them to m2v and ac3 files before bringing them into DVDSP.

  • IMovei '11 .mov films into DVD Studio Pro 4

I am in the process of moving from iLife to Final Cut Studio Software. I still have some movies in iMovie '11, which I want to burn on DVD. As iDVD is in a non-workable state on my Mac I want to use DVD Studio Pro4. I export the movies using the "Export using Quicktime" option as DVD Studio Pro claims to be able to import any Quicktime movie. However, when I try to import, I get the message that the format is not supported.
Surely there's something I'm missing here. Can anybody shed some light on this matter?

    DVD SP does't do Blu-Ray.
If you have time to kill, do a search on the forum for hours of entertaining reading on this subject.
To create a DVD, use Compressor to generate the m2v and ac3 files needed by DVDSP to author a DVD.
Again, a search of this forum will turn up hundreds of threads - most of which are restating the process for authoring that is spelled out in the manual.

  • Is it possible to import a .pdf or .doc file into DVD studio Pro 4?

When I finally finish my 2D animation for my Senior Project and finally make the DVD, I want to include the short story that the animation is based on to the DVD. I want to import it as .pdf or a .doc into DVD Studio Pro 4. What I want to know is, is if this is possible, or if is not, is there another acceptable file format that I can use if .pdf or .doc isn't possible?
    Message was edited by: obisgirl

Techincally you can create a link to take it to the file... but there are so many different software DVD players that it doesnt work with 90% of them so its pointless..
as for including your files on the DVD....
First make sure your files are all in one folder called DVD Content or something like that so they know its in that location
then in DVDSP at the top where all the icons are...
    hit build and format.
in the general tab you will see...
    Disc
    Source
    DVD-ROM Data
    destination
under DVD-ROM Data check the content box.
Choose the folder you have all your files in.
joliet extension support doesnt really matter but i always click it so that windows can identify better what file format it is.
    then continue building and formating.
let me know if that works or if you run into an issue.
