H.264 High Profile 5.1 possible?

Hi
Do you think it will anytime be possible to play h.264 in high profile 5.1 on AppleTV?

    Just a quick question...
Does QuickTime support H.264 High Profile?
If not, does anyone know if Apple are working on it?
    Thanks,

  • Encore CS5, BluRay H.264 and Profiles

I find in the manual that Encore is only allowing Main profile H.264 files to be used untranscoded.  Yet, everywhere I have read and learned about H.264, the ideal way to get the best compression is to use the high profile and a level of 4.1.  In fact, this is the most common preset in most encoders for BluRay preset H.264 encoding.
So, what gives?   Is Adobe really going to force me to transcode my H.264 high profile footage?   This is odd since one of the transcode templates in AME as instanced from Encode (1920x1080i hihg quality) is preset to high profile, level = 4.1
I guess it is OK for AME to transcode it when triggered from Encore... but not anywhere else.  For example, use this same AME preset from PPro, import the resulting H.264 file into Encore, it wants to transcode it...   very frustrating.
I have an encoder that I feel is superior to the one in AME and it has the same template settings as the BluRay presets in AME.  Encore won't take them...
    Am I missing something here?

I agree with your comments.  Any experience with BDR media and 25m rates on players?
As much of my material is mid-band, or darker...   I am worried about banding that I see in X.264.  Also a lot of footage I shoot is interlaced due to the high motion of the event.  So, I am in a bad place.  I have a lot of mid-band footage that has a lot of motion in it.  I could go to 30p, but I don't alway like how it looks when some of the events are fast moving.
I am open to investing in a solid H.264 encoder if it gives me what I want...
Every burn I've done to TDK BD-R50B or Sony BD-RE50 has played fine in my PS3, with rates as high as 40mbit/s (burst for a minute or so, not the entire project).  So I can't comment on lower-quality media, because it's all worked for me thus far.
Like I said, I've done interlaced with x264 just fine, but the x264 developers claimed (as of three months ago, anyway) that interlaced encoding was "broken" so you author with such output at your own risk. 1080i @ 29.97 works for me on powerdvd9 and a real PS3, all 60 fields present, using the following batch file:
    x264 --crf %3 --preset veryslow --weightp 1 --bframes 3 --nal-hrd vbr --vbv-maxrate 40000 --vbv-bufsize 30000 --level 4.1 --keyint 30 --b-pyramid strict --slices 4 --tff --aud --colorprim "bt709" --transfer "bt709" --colormatrix "bt709" --sar 1:1 %1 -o %2
    Called like this:  batchfile.bat infile.avi outfile.m4v NUM
...where NUM is the crf number I want to use (I use 16 unless the files get too large).  If you're trying to keep maximum bitrate down then this is not what you want to use, use the one with bitrate contols on the website URL in my last post.  My input footage was upper-field-first, hence the "--tff" in the above example.
One note on large files and dual-layer media:  Don't create a file larger than about 24G.  Otherwise Encore and other programs will blow a gasket (in my experience) when it comes time to try to place the layer break, which it can't do because the file goes over the layer size.
There are good commercial programs that can produce H.264 content, but they range from $700 to $8000.  I've used some of them, and they do have significant advantages if you want to re-encode certain sections with different bitrate targets, but generally most of my work can be serviced just fine using AME or x264.

  • Encoding to high profile h.264 with quicktime (7 pro) export

Is there anyway to encode high profile h264 with quicktime export ?
Been using a canon HF100 for years now, and my goal is to edit and export my movies to h264 with the least quality lost. I can edit(trimming and merging) without quality loss. My endresult is in AIC codec, but when I export it to H264 in quicktime, in the highest settings, I can still see quality(or actually, color depth) loss in low light scenes.
Even with a bitrate which is almost identical to the AIC file...
    I have a 130.2Mb (52.7Mbps) h264 main@Level 5 with 2 reference frames/second clip that looks worse the the original AIC file(56.9Mbps) of 143.8Mb
The canon HF100 records in high profile at level 4.0 (high@L4) with 17Mbps. It does 2 reference frames per second and CABAC.
So in theory exporting my projects at 17Mbps should be enough, if only the right settings where available in quicktime export.
Is there anyway to convert AIC to High profile settings, CABAC(available in main profile but not used bij quicktime in h264 output) on the MAC ?
    My workflow:
    1. I use shedworx VoltaicHD to convert my AVCHD files to AIC (pretty much lossles)
    2. I use Imovie 6 to create a new Project in the following structure: HDV1080i
    3. I don't import the AIC files with iMovie but I dump them with Finder in the "media" folder of the Imovie project.(This way I can maintain the 1920x1080 resolution, with importing it gets 1440x1080)
    4. Then I open the project in Imovie, open the trashcan and see my movie clips.
    5. Then the trimming, cutting and merging begins, no use of effects(adding effects creates 1440x1080 video)
    6. Time for export with quicktime h264 codec.

    Hi MartinR,
    Some answers on your thoughts:
"You have an AVCHD camcorder. Where did you get the technical information that it records HiProfile/Level 4/2 ref frames per sec/CABAC?"
-I'v dropped some original mts files from my camera on a program called "mediainfo" from sourceforge net.
"VoltaicHD's conversion isn't exactly 1920x1080, either. Open one of your AIC files in QT Player, do Window > Show Movie Inspector and tell us what it says for format and fps. 1440x1080? 1888x1062?"
-Both mediainfo and quicktime (7 pro and the new quicktime) show in their info that the movie format from voltaicHD file is 1920x1080.
But I can remember I've seen the 1888x1062 resolution in the info in the past. Maybe things where changed by a new version of voltaic or an update by quicktime ?
" certainly understand your efforts to get the results you want with what you have on hand. However you will be better off with iMovie11 and/or Final Cut Express 4 or Final Cut Studio 6. FCP 6 by the way supports ProRes which, if you are very driven for the highest technical qualities, would be the way to go."
I thought about buying imovie 11 in the app store. For 11,99 euro's it's a bargain!
But a little search on the forums kept me from buying it.
My camera puts out interlaced files, even when I record progressive. This is done by most camera manufacturers for compatibility on blu ray players and older lcd and plasma tv's.
Now it seems that if you use effects in imovie 11, it drops half the fields, resulting in 960x540 resolution...In that case imovie 6 with 1440x1080 supported effects is still better.
The same 1440x1080 limitations seems to exist in Final cut express 4.
I know the backdoor in imvie06 works, you can see the 1920 to 1440 resolution drop with your own eyes when effects are added. The drop is only visible in the frames that contain a special effect, the rest of the exported movie is untouched and still 1920.
I did some thinking, and what bothers me the most is that exporting the movie results in loss of color depth/detail. I could imagine that if I could use Prores422 instead of AIC, which is only available in FCP (999Euro's!). That the end result is better, but I'm not sure.
Could be that the colors of the original movie file are spread more over the range because it supports 10 bit sample depth instead of 8. Even when that is true, I am not sure if the h.264 codec will tread it different and maintains some more color depth.
And for fact the avchd files are 4:2:0 and not 4:2:2.
Do you or anyone know if there is any different in quality in an exported to h.264 pro resolution file or an AIC file. Even when the source is 8 bit 4:2:0 ?

  • High Profile H.264 FC6?

    Hello
Vimeo recommends using 'High Profile' H.264, (instead of the normal drop down H.264), for HD. But there is no so-called 'High Profile' H.264 in FC6.
    Are there other options?
If so, can someone please state them for me?
    Thank you

    Hello Ian
    How are you?
Yes, I'm aware of the importance of the Data Rate. In fact, for HD, Vimeo recommends 10K to 20K.
    https://vimeo.com/help/compression
Needless to say, this post ties into my other one regarding 'workarounds' with limited equipment; using only a Mac Mini 10.6, and ClipWrap to get AVCHD files converted to QT - Only to find out that FC6 does not have 'High Profile' H.264, which came out with FC7.
And with the extra burden of HUGH render times evident with older G5's, FC6 and these converted AVCHD files, its back to reality. If my friend picks up a nice used Mac Pro intell Desktop and de-activated FC7 on Ebay, he should be in the 'Pink' .
Nice to see you again Ian

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Component cant playback High Profile High Level content

Is the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component really unable to playback HP HL content?
Im encoding high bitrate media content to mediaservers with my Mac Pro and have used VLC so far to playback the encoded files.
VLC however doesent loop flawlessly so i decided to try QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component.
To my disappoinment it did not play back the High Profile High Level Mpeg-2 content at all.
It tried, but no image was visible and only a few digital bleeps could be heard from soundtrack.
Why call it a playback component if it cant do the job?

  • My client with autism needs to be able to speak/sing into a microphone and simultaneously hear his voice through a headset, preferably with reverb set on high.  Is it possible to do this with the iPad and OS7?  If so, what setup do I need?

My client with autism needs to be able to speak/sing into a microphone and simultaneously hear his voice through a headset, preferably with reverb set on high.  Is it possible to do this with the iPad and OS7?  If so, what setup do I need?  I have a SM58 type mic and-over-the ear headphones.

This implies that ODP.NET does NOT need to be installed on a client. However, I cannot find OraOPs9.dll on a machine with Client Release 9.2 installed. Should OraOps?.dll automatically come with a Client installation of 9.2 or higher?
ODP.NET needs to be installed on the client. OraOps9.dll is part of ODP.NET, not the Oracle Client.
Also, if an application is built with the 10g ODP.NET, can it be run from a machine with OraOps9.dll?
If an application is built with 10g ODP.NET, it can be run with 9.2 ODP.NET as long as you do not use any 10g APIs. The new features in 10g ODP.NET are included in the doc and the ODP.NET FAQ for your reference.

  • Still waiting for x264 High Profile playback

Since the last thread that asked the question is a year old and locked up tight, I'll ask it again: does Apple ever plan to support x264 High Profile playback in Quicktime? They want to push iTunes/Front Row and Apple TV as the media center platform of the future, but if they can't support what is quickly becoming the new standard, then what's the point? VLC and MPlayer both play these files just fine, so it sure as heck isn't an issue of OS compatibility or processor horsepower.
C'mon Apple, get with the program...

    I don't see where x264 is part of Blu-ray....
    High profile doesn't mean it's a standard.
All so would you post these places on the internet where is says x264 is high profile. I'm lost on this one too!!!
Silverhammer...if you go to a x264 forum you'll find hundreds if not thousands of the variations of x264 codec. All not working together.
x264 needs to die along with AVI...

I was wondering if a 2-inch high-profile memory module would fit in the clamshell iBook. I've got one left over from my Powerbook Pismo. It's a 512-MB PC133 module.
Also, how can I find out which Macs support high-profile RAM? Is there a knowledgebase document or something similar?

    No, you need low-profile RAM.

  • Why does it take CS4 Encore 2 days to transcode Blu-ray h.264 High Def

I have been trying to create a Blu-ray disc for Days by adobe dynamic link from Adobe Premiere Pro. I have no problems with creating a DVD. I only have problems when I try sending over 1080i High Definition footage instead of Standard Definition. I was able to create a successful Blu-ray with only 53 minutes of footage, but now I am trying a fully edited video with Titles and Transitions and the length of video is somewhere in the area of an 1hour and 54 minutes and it has been trancoding for over a 24 hour period and still not finished. I have CS4 Master Collection, Windows Vista 64X bit, i-7 processor at 2.66 and 6 gig of memory Hard-drive external 7200 RPM 1.5TB Seagate and 2 Internal Harddrives 750 G and 1TB. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this problem when sending footage over with adobe dynamic link directly to Encore??? When I use the Media Encoder by itself from Premiere it only takes about 6 hours to render 1 hour and 53 minutes of Video into the H.264 Blu-ray format. I am racking my brains to understand why. Also it seems that it Transcoded about half within 5 hours and has seemed to have considerably slowed down since. Please anyone with any suggestions would be very helpful. Also my project shows in the build as being 13.42GB and I it is transcoding in the H.264 Blu-ray format.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunatley I have tried the idea of transcoding the footage and exportig to encore by importing assets and it freezes and Encore hangs there without any response. I think I have lost the last hair in my head trying to figure this out. I am not sure if the imported file is too large for Encore to import as the file is almost 14G but it is very frustrating. I was thinking of going to CS5 but I wanted to up-grade to Windows 7 and have been hearing a lot of issues with CS5 running correctly, so I am waiting till they get all the bugs worked out with that. Also I was curious in CS5 is Encore a true 64 bit program now along with the Media Encoder and Encore or is it just Premiere Pro that is 64 bit? This is one of the reasons I had moved from CS3 to CS4 is because I thought the entire CS4 Master collection was 64 bit only to find out it was just Photoshop. It did work out some issues with Flash that I was having as well as Acrobat, but I want true 64 bit rendering. Please let me know Thanks again. Joe

  • Multiple Action Box Conifgurations in one CIC Profile -  is it  possible ??

    Hy,
We work with different action box configurations as they differ for each business unit. Still the configurations have a common base some general over all settings.
If I make a change on one of the general settings I have to work through all the action box configurations and change it manually. I wonder if there is no other solution.
I've tried to find a way to set up a general configuration with the general over all settings and a configuration only providing the specific need of each business unit but there seams to be no possibility to include two or more action box configurations into one CIC-Profile.
Has anyone of you already dealt with this problem?
Maybe I missed a hint in the documentation?

  • Firefox problems, wants to load a profile, recording not possible

When I want to record a test using Firefox, the first step is loading profiles, althoght there is only one single profile available.
I confirm it but it is not possible to record the test.
    Why not?
It is supposed to work with Firefox actually.
Now I really just wonder if there is worse tool than this available......
    I guess not!

Your contribution unfortunately does not provide any details about firefox version, plugins and extensions used, the OS you are running etc. So I am playing by the ear and because you mention "playing a web page game" I suggest you check your plugins. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.
