H.264 (MP4) format

The website smugmug converts movies to  h.264 (MP4) format when you upload them.
Does Premiere handle that type of file well

Premiere has no trouble converting to mp4, it has several ready made presets for mp4 e.g for YouTube.
Just look up the supported export formats in the Help.

  • MP4/H.264 video format license for selling videos

    Hello!
I have searched on the forums and I did not find anything new about this topic.
I create animated films and I want to export them as .mp4 with H.264 codec. Can I use these films with commercial purpose? (I want to sell the films to companies, as explainer videos, and also post them online to promote small/large companies). So what I would do is sell the film in .mp4 format.
I also saw that H.264 is open source now. Is it also available for commercial purpose?
If I need a license for Europe / Romania, where do I get it from?
I am eagerly waiting for your answers,
    Thank you!
    aNDRA
PS: I am a small firm (in my country it is called an authorized person aka freelancer)

No one knows anything? It would be really helpful to get at least a link to where I can ask more about this
I know about mpegla, but they seem to cover only USA? Are they for Europe as well?
    Thanks!

  • How to render animation to a MP4 format or something else?

Hello. I usually render my animation to uncompressed AVI because after it I have to render it again with different software for video motage. So there wasn't any problem. But today I have to render my animation directly from After Effects. So I can't render it to uncompressed AVI anymore. I try render to MP4 format but that doesn't exsist. Even after wathich that tutorial below, I don't have that option what we can see in this video:
So I try to do something else. And I found different format as QUICKTIME with H.264. But after render, I can't see my animation (I can see only voice, there is no video). What is strange because movies from Adobe Premiere rendered to H.264 codec work perectly! The same codec but if I render videos from After Effects I can't see it in Windows. But from Adobe Premeire I can. Strange!
So I render my animation to QUICKTIME -> Motion-A format. And it works, I can see a whole rendered video now. But... 5 sec is over 150MB! And this is way to heavy.
Please, tell me what I have to do to render my animation in a good preset.

MP4 is the best format for what you describe.
After Effects never did a good job of rendering to that format.
Instead of wasting development time trying to make AE better at it, the After Effects team chose to let the Adobe Media Encoder team work on encoding things and they would work on making After Effects perform better and have better features.
So, either render an intermediate file from AE and use that in the Adobe Media Encoder or send your AE comp directly to AME. Either way, you will use the Adobe Media Encoder to make an MP4. That's how I did it even when AE could make MP4's because AE wasn't good at making them. You can get better quality at smaller file sizes with AME. Go with it.
Here's the Adobe team's official word on it: using Adobe Media Encoder to create H.264, MPEG-2, and WMV videos from After Effects
They explain the proper workflow and they explain why they removed H.264 and WMV encoding from AE.

  • I have built a slideshow in iPhoto -- I need/want the file in .mp4 format.  How do I do that?

Ok, I don't know why I am here, but!
I have built a slideshow in iPhoto -- I need/want the file in .mp4 format.  How do I do that?
The question may have been answered somewhere but I was sent here -- so her I am.
Still I think I need my slideshow in .MP4 format to play on windows/smartTVs and the .m4v file that export offers seems to be the only option and it fails.
I am using iPhoto v9.5.1 on a Macbook Air.
    help.

Try changing the extension to .m4v and see if that will do the trick.  It did for me on another occasion where it wouldn't play as .MP4.  If it works it's a simple solution.
I compared an .m4v and an .MP4 file in Qujicktime Player via the Winde ➙ Show Movie Inspector menu and both were  the same codec:
    H.264, 1280 × 720, Millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
Check to see what codec the Movie Inspector window shows.

  • H.264 MP4 preset with 920x518 not possible in Compressor?

We need to export our Final Cut projects to different H.264 MP4 sizes. They are 1280x720, 640x360 and 920x517. Unfortunately we didn't find a way to set a preset to 920x518.
What can we do to get that work?
Thanks in advance for every hint.
    Heidi

You'll need to use QuickTime Conversion out of FCP (or QT Pro) since Compressor will not create h.264-encoded .mp4 files.
    Just for starters:
With your sequence selected or active, *File > Export > QT Conversion*.
Select MPEG-4 from the Format drop-down.
Hit the Options buttons to bring up the MPEG-4 Export Settings dialog
File Format is, by default, set to *MP4 (ISMA)*. Instead, select the MP4 option.
    Switch Video Format to H.264.
Alter the Image Size to Custom, then set your width and height.
Check the +Preserve Aspect Ratio using+ box and set the drop-down value to *Fit within size*.
There are, of course, other considerations (Data Rate, Multi-Pass vs Single Pass, Profiles, etc) but that should at least get you started.
Also, in case you're working with an anamorphic format (like, say, DVCProHD or HDV) you have to, if I remember correctly, export a reference movie out of FCP first. Once that's done, open it in QuickTime Pro and set the Conform Aperture property to Production. Then export out of QT Pro. Oherwise, I believe you'll end up with distorted .mp4s since your sequence footage isn't square-pixel.
Of course, this is non-factor if you're working in a square-pixel format

  • Videos recorded in mp4 format throught AMS(development version) not playing on android and Ios device.

I am using adobe ams(development version) to record video files in mp4 format using rtmp protocol. I am using mp4 as the file extension and as the stream specifier(codec). The videos are saving correctly. When i copy these files on a mobile device(android and iOS) they are not playing. Can somebody tell what I am doing wrong.
The rtmp url I am using is rtmp://localhost:1935/mp4:videoname.mp4

    Dropbox - defaultcodec.mp4
    Dropbox - h264codec.mp4
These are the two files that I created .The first file is created by the default codec used by Flash player.
The second file(h264codec.mp4) is created by using Flash player 11 and as3 . I have encoded the file using h.264/AAC.
The tutorial followed for creating the second encoded file is Encoding live video to H.264/AVC with Flash Player 11 | Adobe Developer Connection
Thanks in advance . These two files stream successfully in the web application using flash player and as3 .I can play both of them in VLC too. But these files wont play on any mobile device(both android and iOS).
Please send me your feedback on this . In the meanwhile I will look into http streaming.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Improting H264 MP4 format video

    Hello.
I have been trying to import videos that I recorded of my gameplay with AverMedia Live Gamer HD capture card.4
I have used H264 format and m.mp4 file extension. In older version of CC Premiere Pro videos did work just fine now in 2014 version I just get green screen in videos and I have no idea why.
Interesting is that I tried to transcode one video with media encoder to mp4 format and that did work out.m
So I am wondering that what is going on here.
If you do need any more details please ask and I provide. I just can't figure what would be useful at this point.

  • How do I edit long (3hrs.) podcast that are saved in mp4 format?

I have several 3 hour podcasts in mp4 format. I'd like to edit the length and save portions of the podcasts as mp3 files. I tried burning the mp4 file to an audio CD, but due to it's length (3 hrs.), it will not fit on a blank CD-R. I downloaded Audacity. Can this do the trick? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Glad that you finally sorted out what you were doing and discovered DV AVI.
In your particular situation Prism would serve your purposes of generating the DV AVI 4:3 since your footage is 640 x 480. However, for others with different footage, the free Prism shortcoming is that it cannot offer DV AVI widescreen 16:9; whereas MPEG Streamclip can do the job for 16:9 as well as 4:3.
QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 that does come with the MPEG Streamclip's required MPEG2 Playback Component (free) also meets the Premiere Elements requirement for QuickTime installed on computer with Premiere Elements to work. This works in spite of the fact that QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 is not the latest version of the regular QuickTIme.
In post 2 of the following older thread, I detail the use of Prism (for 4:3) and MPEG Streamclip (for 4:3 and 16:9) to produce the DV AVI file.

Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
Moving forward, do not use AVCHD (MPEG4 AVC/H.264) or H.264.avi in Premiere Elements. It is not supported.

  • Export to .mp4 format?

I am using Premiere Elements 9 and I am wondering how to export my video to .mp4 format without losing the resolution? (I don't mean .mpg)
According to: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/862/cpsid_86248.html, I should be able to but no luck here.
    Thanks in advance!

Export/Share to MP4 will use the H.264 CODEC, so there will be compression, and a decrease in quality.
To Share to MP4, you will use the QuickTime Preset, and then set the Compression to H.264.
The compression will be fair, and the quality quite good, or a compressed CODEC. H.264 is one of the better highly-compressed CODEC's available today.
Now, what is your Source Footage, and also your intended use for the Exported/Shared file?
There might be better alternatives, but your delivery will dictate if they are viable.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Elements 9 able to save h.264 mp4?

    Hi!
I gave Premiere Elements 9 trial a test run yesterday on my Mac OS Snow Leopard. Everything else seemed to work nicely but I felt a bit limited with the sharing/exporting -part. What I want to do is export .mp4-file encoded with h.264, preferably 2-pass to optimize quality vs. file size. I prefer this file format because it is recommended by YouTube and can also be viewed on PlayStation3, and probably on everything else.
Also, tell me there shouldn't be problems with syncing 44,1khz audio in Premiere? I've used Final Cut Express previously and I found out it needs 48khz audio to stay in sync. (I record with GarageBand and it will only do 44,1khz)
    Thanks!

Yes, you can certainly save MP4s in a variety of formats and at a variety of quality levels.
Share/Computer/MPEG with the H.264 preset will save a high quality MP4 at several frame sizes.
Share/Disc/BluRay includes presets for saving your BluRays in H.264 format.
Share/Portable Devices/iPod will save in H.264/Mp4s for an Apple portable device.
All of these presets can be modified by clicking on the Advanced button in their export panels.
There are many more details on the program in my books, available on Amazon.com and at Premiere Elements support site http://Muvipix.com.

  • My MP4 format videos will not enter Ipod anymore.

I download a few videos from a site, converted them into MP4 format as required for The Ipod 5th Generation to be played.Videos I've done before worked, but this time the videos is not converting into my ipod.Help please...

    two ways you can try.
1.Shorten your mp4 file name, make it simple and short if it has a long name.
    2. please bear in mind the general limits which the iPod carries~
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320x240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480x480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
so you will need to convert your mp4 file again if it doesn't meet above limitation.you will need to have a 3rd party converter tool to help you, see this detailed comparison chart and reviews of the top 5 selling ipod video converters, i suggest you to use dvdXsoft dvd to ipod converter which can convert mp4 files.

  • PP CS4 Problem with exported H.264 .mp4 video. Can't AME do proper encoding?

Trying to export a Video of ~60mins using the H.264 Codec .mp4 which converts in AME successfully, allthough when playing back the f
ile, it has problems after ~40mins. When i try to jump to a later point in the timeline to playback i.e. 48th minute or 50:10 or wha
tever, the image freezes, audio continues and it takes 10-20 secs untill the video image continues.
I tried different playback programms like VLC,Windows media etc. and different compressions 2-5Mbps as CBR and VBR1 / 2, nothing cha
    nged.
Source is Sony DV and i have some still images as .png. Since the first 30mins work alright, i thought i try out if something with t
he source material in the timeline is causing the problem , so i cut after the 30st minute and copied the first 30mins behind that
to get a 60mins video, but exaclty the same playback issue after ~40th minute.
Is this an most likely a problem caused by AME using H.264 .mp4 Codec?
Other videos i did months before in the same way using the same source material worked fine. Adobe Premiere and AME is up to date!
    Thank you

hmn sounds like it makes sense. I have seen that "i-Frame in GOP" somewhere in PP i think.
Allthough i recall that i had videos i exported which played fine till the end with no delay at a later seek distance.
I noticed that quicktime player has the same issue but is much quicker than VLC.
Is there a work arround or alternative? Can it be improved?
    I need H.264 & .mp4 for webpodcast on vimeo.com
The only thing which looks strange to me ist that the lenght of the delay showing the images (i guess finding it) takes almost the same time
as on other later point like at the very end. Id assume that if its normal behavior the delay should become bigger and bigger with a later point in time ?
Appreciate your time to answer jim,Thanks

  • Importing file from imovie 08 back to external harddrive in mp4 format

I have been trying to convert VHS to DVD (although I havent gotten to the DVD part yet) by importing movies onto an external hard drive using a program called El Gato which is great. Needing to trim some of these files (have some old concerts with commercials, etc.), I imported the file which is mp4 into Imovie and trimmed. I have called apple support and taken my laptop to store and still have no answer. I want to know once I have trimmed this file because I can't just drag it how i get it back on my external hard drive and keep it in mp4 format? I need specific instructions cuz no one seems to be giving me answer i need. I am on imovie 08 not new version. The apple guy showed me on latest imovie and i dont think its the same because i didnt know what to do once i got home. I also tried going to file and importing movie where it lets you select where you want the file to go, but the import button is greyed out so another road block and I dont know if thats the step im supposed to take.

Does your ElGato come with EyeTV software (Version 3.4 is the latest).
If so, you can do simple trims in EyeTV. If you right-click on your import, and select Edit, you will get an editing view. You can add markers to mark the in and out points. Then click the gear icon and choose compact. Be sure to read the detailed instructions in EyeTV help.

  • How do I move just a single clip in the project file and then convert that into an Mp4 format?

    Dear Assistance,
I have a project file open.
At the bottom  of the screen there is a horizontal film strip of images.  I have cut the images into certain segments.
I want to select one single segment (about 1 min long) and convert only that selected segment into a mp4 format?
Kindly inform me how the best way to go about doing that is.
    Thank you,
    Ben
    [email protected]

In the sequence you will see the time code and a bar in line with it.
At the end of all your edited clips in the sequence you will find that the bar ends, this bar defines the work area.
Drag each end of the work area bar so it covers only the clip you want to export.
The select the exporter and select the preset you want and before you start the export where it says whole sequence change this to work area
Then change the default name and location to whatever you want and start the export, job done
