H.264 vs MPEG-4 and Quicktime Plug in vs the Quicktime Player.

I am currently setting up a webpage that will have over 100 videos (30 minute videos)that will be in the quicktime format and ipod format. So I have a few questions about setting up this page and wanted to get someones experienced input on a few things.
I'm setting up the videos with links as there are so many videos. When setting up the page, should I have the entire quicktime player download or just the plug in?
Should I use the H.264 or Mpeg-4 compression setting. I realize that H.264 requires the Quicktime 7 download but I could put a link that sends them to this page, I'm just wondering what the best choice for compression would be.
Do you know of any webpages that have videos that are available for the user to be able to click on the video link and watch the video in quicktime or to choose the ipod
download? I wanted to see how this is set up on one page.

100 videos on one page? I hope you have enough bandwidth to serve all of this data.
I would use "poster" movies that target the QuickTime Player (not the plug-in). No data would download until a viewer clicks a "play" button (a simple image file save as a .mov file). An example of one of my files that uses a poster movie and targets the QuickTime Player. The escape key exits full screen mode.

To set up a page that allows a download you could use a text based link to the same file. Just tell the viewers to right-click (Control-click on a Mac) and save the file from the pop-up menu.
This save you bandwidth and makes creating the page fairly simple (even for 100 files).
I would use MPEG-4 using MPEG-4 video codec instead of H.264 (broader base of possible viewers). I would encode the files at 480X360 dimensions and use the QuickTime playback "Presentation" option to play the files. Big "wow" factor as you can see from my example file.
The page would look something like this:
Name and description of the file as text.
Poster movie (simple image that says Play) sized at 25X30.
Text based link to the "download" version.
Instructions right-click to save (text).
You could make the page using a "three across" (like columns) so the viewer doesn't have to scroll down a long list. Even with 100 linked files the html code would be under 30KB's.

l have an apple tv  2 generation please help me

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • How do I update my iTunes because I accedently only updated iTunes and not iCloud thing and quicktime player. How do I do it?

The window of iTunes updater popped up and I accedently only downloaded the iTunes and not iCloud thing and Quicktime player. Any ideas how I can download them now?

Go "Start > All programs > Apple Software Update". When Apple Software Update launches, does it offer you the QuickTime and iCloud updates?

My Iphone 4 shuted down after tried to instul ios 7.0. I 'm only seeing the sing of iTune and USB plug right on the phon's screen
I really need help because that's only phone i got.

Just back from Genius Bar and two other people at my table had the same problem. Their 4Ss aren't charging either. One of them had a fried board according to the tech. At least my HW checked out OK. It just won't charge.
The tech tried to tell me that it was because my connector was corroded, which I told him was kind of a weak argument since evidence points to that the update has something to do with it.
They're seeing a lot of these and it looks like they already have a script.
Luckily I had enough juice left to recycle it for like $180, so I picked up a 5S with a new 2 year.
It looked to me like this is going to blow up pretty big. Like class action lawsuit big.
If you have an iPhone 4 or 4S, and you haven't updated it to iOS 7, don't for now. See if a patch comes out that doesn't brick your phone. Or get an induction charger maybe? Don't just update and expect absolutely no problems because too many people are having problems right now.

  • Where do I find Windows Media and Quicktime player I need them for online classes

For Angel learning I need windows Media and QuickTime player for the site to work properly. I had both add-ons in my earlier version of Firefox but they didn't carry over into Firefox 4 I'm disappointed in this version the look sucks and the pop-up blocker menu doesn't work.

    Go to the following page:
That's the download page for WMP. Use WMP 10.

  • HT3775 mpeg-2 file using OS 10.8.2 and Quicktime Player 10.2

I'm trying to open an mpeg-2 file with Quicktime Player 10.2 and OS 10.8.2. Apple says the playback component for earlier versions of Quicktime is already built in to this version, but I'm getting video only--no audio. My Sony blue ray player has no trouble playing the same file via a flash drive and the USB port. Is there a component or an update that I need?

  • Quicktime mpeg-2 and quicktime versions don't match

I bought quicktime pro and the mpeg-2 add on but the program tells me the versions are not compatible even though they both say the same version identification.
Does anyone know why it tells me the versions are different when they aren't ?

sorry for not putting enough info.
i just bought the quicktime mpeg-2 installer and quicktime pro upgrade for quicktime 7 yesterday(3-15-2009). i installed the pro upgrade and the mpeg-2 installer.
i checked both quicktime and the mpeg-2 installer to see what versions they are. they both say version 7.60.92.0, yet i keep recieve this message:
"QuickTime MPEG2 failed to load because the versions of QuickTime and QuickTime MPEG2 do not match."
But they match exactly. I am stumped. i even uninstalled and reinstalled both of them but still the same message.

  • Cannot open TIFF files since installing iTunes and QuickTime Player.

iTues+Quicktime is preventing use of Alternatiff, that is a Firefox plug-in TIFF image viewer, from displaying the image. Instead the Quicktime symbol appears but is unable to display the image. I uninstalled iTunes and without any other change, the plug-in works. I installed iTunes, making sure it is not selected as default media player. When iTunes started both it and Alternatiff plug-in functioned correctly. However, Upon exit from iTunes my TIFF viewer stopped working again. Uninstalling Quicktime (leaving iTunes) enables Altermatiff but then iTunes doesn't work
It is critical that I get bot iTunes and a TIFF viewer plug in to work.
    HELP!!!
    [email protected]

    Excellent news, Bulent!
I hope Quicktime does not, later, try to take over again.
Good point ... next time you do a QuickTime update directly from the Website:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
... very near the end of the install, there should be a screen with a "Configure File/MIME types" button. Click the button, go to the MIME types, and make sure that that TIFF image entry is unchecked. That should avoid the problem in future.

  • .avi files crash finder and quicktime player after Flip4Mac component mess

The .avi files that are downloaded directly from my camera cause the finder to crash as it tries to preview, they will cause Quicktime Player to quit unexpectedly, and Final Cut Pro will see them as corrupt. The files still open in VLC so I know they aren't corrupt.
I think this may have happened because the stupid 'Flip4Mac' program suggested that I remove some conflicting components. I accidentally lost them and I'm not sure which ones they were.
I tried re-installing Quicktime 7.20, but that didn't seem to do it. Does anybody know which components I should be looking to re-install? Maybe the ones that commonly go with FCP and Quicktime? Or does anyone know which components Flip4Mac will identify as conflicting?

    http://perian.org for your AVI files.
Remove any browser plug-in that has an x in it's name as Perian replaces them (with better compatibility).
I don't use Flip4Mac but what I've read about it suggests it is used by WMP formats (not AVI).
AVI was invented by Microsoft and they discontinued the container nearly ten years ago.

  • DVCPRO HD and QuickTime Player 7.6.6 (1709) Pro

    1. A video production company gave us 500 GB of .mov files with the DVCPRO HD codec.
    2. QuickTime Player 7.6.6 (1709) Pro does not read the files. It gives this error message:
"The document "BEFORE-A1" could not be opened. A required codec isn't available."
I read the 2010 thread on "Cannot play a .mov file on quicktime" and I'm wondering if one of these plugins will work from this web address:
    DivX
    Streambox
    Autodesk
    Flip4Mac
    Glue Tools
    MXF4Mac
    Please help. Thanks

Don't know about those that you have listed. The codec DVCPro is part of the package installed when you purchase Final Cut Pro. But it looks like there's aftermarket providers of these codecs one of them being this company:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/store/MacOSXIndividualStore.asp
You might also ask if the video production company could send you a zip file of the codec from one of their Final Cut workstations. We had similar situation where I work only the production company was usinga NewTek video codec (SQ2). We had to beg them for the installer which they put up on a website temporarily and we downloaded it. We had no other way to view and transcode without that original codec.

i have uninstalled both programs and reinstalling them several times. i have also check to see if they work on other accounts on my laptop. they do not work.

The procedure entry point QTCF_CFUniCharGetUnicodePropertyDataForPlane could not be located in the dynamic link library QTCF.dll
The most common cause of that one is a misplaced older version of the QTCF.dll lurking about in your system. On an x64 system, the best place to start looking is in the C:\Windows\sysWOW64\ directory.
Do you see a QTCF.dll lurking in there? If so, try dragging it out onto the desktop. Can you launch iTunes and QuickTime now?

I found a cool .WAV I want to use, but I cannot get it to work. Its icon is the music/iTunes one, but I need it to be QuickTime. I'm a newbie at this sound stuff...

Drag the file into iTunes and convert or export it as needed, or drag it onto the QuickTime Player icon in the Dock and play it from there.
