H-REAP vlan template?

Is there a way to set-up the locally switched H-REAP vlan(s) via WCS template?
Thanks!

Thanks for the screen shots.  I took off early Friday.
My screen shots would look like your first one.  Unlike your second one, I never see anything in the Profiles box.
Perhaps I'm shooting myself in the foot using the same SSID at the H-REAP sites as at the centrally switched sites.  The difference being the H-REAP WLANs are mapped to the management interface but with traffic dumped onto a locally routed/switched vlan.  Strange though, not one SSID shows up in the profiles box.
I would expect to see multiples of the same SSID with differing locally switched vlan numbers corresponding to local vlans at the different H-REAP sites.

  • H-Reap vlan mapping groups

    Hi
    Im configuring a WLC 5508 ( version 7 ) with h-reap local switching.
All is working , yet i wonder if the vlan mapping can be done better.
Currently i need to go into each Lightweight Access point , enable h-reap, then set the native vlan , with the final step to map the vlan. This needs to be done for each AP. In an environment of 100's of APs i would take foreever. ( i thought one of the main points of the WLC is centralized management )
Am i missing something ? Is there an easier way to do this ?
    Cheers, Pankaj

you should be able to set the VLAN mappings from WCS/NCS as well.
as well in 7.2 you can now do dynamic vlan assignment, though you still need to list the VLAN the HREAP can access

  • Adding more VLANs for mapping for an H-REAP AP

Why can't I add more locally switched VLANs to the VLAN mapping table of an H-REAP AP... I have a total of 3 but as I understand it I can have a maximum of 8 locally switch H-REAP VLANs...
    What abd
Basic config from command line is

Where am I going wrong- could have couple of pointers please?

    Hello Adrian,
The VLAN mapping is not taking hold because that AP is currently not servicing WLAN 4 (from the screenshot). Is this AP part of an ap group? If so, have you added wlan 4 to that AP group configuration?
If the AP is in the default-group, then it should be servicing wlan 4...
What version of WLC code and model of AP are in use?

  • I have a Problem with Romming Between SSIDs withing the same WLC but with deferent VLAN .

    HI All,
I have a Problem with Romming Between SSIDs withing the same WLC but with deferent VLAN . the WLC are providing the HQ and one of the Branches the Wireless services .
Am using all the available 9 SSIDs at the HQ , and am using only 4 of it at the Brnche.
The problem that i have are happening only at the Branch office as i cant room between the SSIDs within Diferent VLANs but i can do it with the one that pointing to the same VLAN. Once the client ( Laptop/Phone ) connected to one of the SSIDs. it imposiible to have him connected to the other ones with Different VLAN. meanwhile, It says its connected to the other SSID but its not getting IP from that pool.
here is the Show Run-Config from my WLC .. and the Problem happening between the SSID AMOBILE and ASTAFF. i have the Debug while am switching between the SSIDs if needed .

Well you need to understand the behavior of h-reap or what it's called now, FlexConnect. In this mode, the clients are still remembers on the WLC until the session timer/idle timer expires. So switching between SSID's in h-reap will not be the same when switching when the AP's are in local mode.
Take a look at the client when connected in FlexConnect in the WLC GUI monitor tab. Thus will show you what ssid and vlan the client is on. Now switch to a different ssid and compare this. It's probably the same because the client has not timed out. Now go back to the other ssid and look again. Now on the WLC, remove or delete the client and then switch to the other ssid at the same time. Or switch SSID's and then remove the client. The client will join the new ssid and in the monitor tab, you should see the info.
There is no need to have clients have multiple SSID's unless your testing. Devices should only have one ssid profile configured to eliminate any connectivity issues from the device wanting to switch SSID's.

  • WLC 4402 Multiple clients can connect to AP but only one gets an IP

I have a 4402 which is connected to a 4506 Switch int Gig 3/1 via a trunk port. The Managment and AP-manger interfaces are on vlan 6
    interface GigabitEthernet3/1
    description Trunk Port to WLC
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 2-6
    switchport mode trunk
    end
I have a 1142N AP also connected to the switch and it pulls a DHCP IP Address and configs etc and registers to the WLC. It too is on Vlan 6 and it is connected to the 4506 on int gig 4/33 which is an access port.
    interface GigabitEthernet4/33
description Access port to Cisco LAP 1142
    switchport access vlan 6

I am doing local authentication, so i have added users to the WLC
My problem is that the first client that connected was able to get an IP address and connect to anything internal and external.
I then connected another client on another laptop and that client could connect but not get an IP address, it  just self assigned.
When i look at the clients i can see the MAC address of both Clients on the WLC, but doing a show mac address-table dynamic i only see the MAC of the client that works properly. The client that doesnt get an IP has no entry in the 4506 switch.
I am stumped, from what I understand, is that the 2nd clients traffic is being trunked to the WLC , hence it has the MAC address. But I dont know why its not getting a DHCP assigned IP address.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Wireless clients cannot get ip address

I have 7 WLANs configured all work fine but the latest. The 7th WLAN I configured will not let clients get an IP address. I can plug a wire into the port with the same VLAN configured on the port and I get an IP address but wireless clients connected to an AP on that port cannot get an IP adddress. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello,
where is the DHCP server configured?
    - do all other 6 WLAN's work fine with the same DHCP server.
    - do you have any H-REAP VLAN mapping , or AP groups configured?
they will override the WLAN-interface configuration.
    Kind regards

  • 2 weird problems with LAP1142N

    Hi!
I've got 2 wierd problems using our 1142N APs I can't seam to solve.
We are configured to have 3 WLANs. 2 of them are H-REAP, with a VLAN number depending on the building the AP is in. The last one is a Guest VLAN.
First : When some APs are rebooted, H-REAP VLAN id is changed. Let's say I assigned VLAN 749, on reboot it's going to be VLAN 799 for no apparent reason.
Second : In one of our building, the guest VLAN doesn't work. There are 6 APs there, and all 6 doesn't work. I've been looking through our config to see any differences and I can't seam to find one. It usually is the first VLAN to work...
Anybody can help me with these?

The exact same config works in every other locations we have (27 other locations).
For the VLAN Problem, I moved some AP to WLC2, the problem was shown. I changed the VLAN and saved the controller config. I moved them back to WLC1, the problem reappeared. Changed it back, saved, rebooted the APs and everything seamed fine. I'll do that to all the APs..
Here are my runing configs. They make the WLC Config Analyzer crash

  • Auth no associated yes

    Hi,
i have a few AP in flexconnect (H-Reap) mode. i am using a common ssid for centrally switched which works fine on other offices deployed with h-reap AP;s but for 1 office that users connect.
if i look at the clients page i see the status is Associated  and Auth sayss NO...I can see users authenticating on the ACS Server...i cant see a DHCP address whereas other offices seems to be fine getting dhcp address. the association is YES and Auth is also YES.
DHCP is local running on win server
i get deauthenticated error messages on wlc with reason code 1
    any thoughts ?

The switchport shows you have VLANS 113 and 114 (and 1 intrinsically).
    switchport trunk native vlan 113
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 113,114
    switchport mode trunk
Your AP has VLAN support enabled with a native VLAN ID of 113, which means the APs management address is in VLAN113, however given your configuration clients connecting to WLAN11 are going to be placed on vlan 1 (tagged in this case due to native config).
    H-REAP Vlan mode :............................... Enabled
            Native ID :..................................... 113
            WLAN 11 :....................................... 1
Does your client need to end up on vlan 114?  If so, you need to click on the AP in question, select the FlexConnect tag and choose VLAN Mappings. From there, make sure you specify your VLAN ID for this locally switched WLAN.
Right now if a client connects to this AP they are being placed on VLAN 1.

  • Mapping Multiple VLANs to Multiple SSIDs as one-one in WLC 5508 via H-REAP?

    Hi All,
Can anyone please show me how to map a SSID/WLAN ID to a local vlan of a LAP in WLC 5508 using H-REAP local switched? The reason of doing this is to separate Data subnet/traffic from Voice as currently all 7925 handsets using same SSID as PCs. I would like to create two VLANs on APs and map them to two SSIDs. I could not see any option in WLC5508 to do this. Also when I change the AP mode from H-REAP to local and configuring sub interface using dot1q on the interface Gi0 then unable write running-config to startup-config because I get NVRAM Verification Failed as WLC protects any local changes on any registered LAP at NVRAM.
    Your help is much appreciated.

    Mehdi:
I am talking about HREAP groups, not AP groups.
You can not achieve what you want if you are using the same SSID on same AP with only a WLC (same AP with same SSID is mapped to different VLANs). You may need a radius server to dynamically assign a VLAN to the clients if you are using same SSID for data and voice.
If you are using different SSIDs for voice and data, you can map each SSID to its corresponding VLAN on the remote site using the VLAN mapping option under HREAP tab in the AP config page.
You can not configure the AP from its console. Lightweight APs can only be configured from the controller. (a few exceptions are available that do not apply here) .

  • H-REAP LWAPs losing VLAN mapping when fail to secondary WLC's

    Hello,
I have three 5508 WLCs, running code 7.0.98.0 supporting 100+ LWAPs in H-REAP mode. The LWAPs are servicing 2-3 WLANs each. Some are using central authentication and local switching, some are configured for central authentication and central switching. When the LWAPs fail from one WLC to another WLC, the LWAP's lose all of their VLAN mappings and pick up the VLAN of the management interface on the new WLC.
All WLANs are configured to use the management interface on the WLC and the VLAN mappings are configured per LWAP on the H-REAP properties  tab.  The WLAN ID numbers and all the WLAN settings are the same across all 3 WLC's. I have created AP groups on all 3 WLC's and the AP group config matches across the 3 WLCs.
I can get the LWAPs to keep their VLAN mapping by creating an interface on the WLC with the VLAN ID of the locally switched/remote site VLAN and then setting the interface for the WLAN to the new interface. However, then the WLAN doesn't work, because the centrally located WLC doesn't have the remote site VLAN. It also seems to keep the VLAN mapping if I create the locally switched/remote site VLAN interface on the WLC , and point the WLAN to the management interface. This shouldn't be a necessary step though... In H-REAP with local switching, the LWAPs aren't using the interface on the WLC.
I found a note in the 7.0 WLC config guide that explains why the VLANs are picking up the management interface VLAN, but that same note says the VLAN mappings can be changed per LWAP/WLAN!
    From config guide:
For hybrid-REAP access points, the interface mapping at the controller for WLANs that is configured for H-REAP Local Switching is inherited at the access point as the default VLAN tagging. This mapping can be easily changed per SSID, per hybrid-REAP access point
Anyone using H-REAP and been able to get the LWAPs to keep the VLAN mapping when failing from one WLC to another?
    Thanks!

    Shawn,
I went back and reviewed everything and everything was duplicated , Except... WLAN_ID. The Wlan ID tags were different. I created a test and failled my two test AP's and they both came up on the backup controller with the proper vlan ID. now I know. When it was working for everyone else I was begining to wonder if I found a new bug or it was my config. This is one I wont forget ..
    Thank you

  • What is AP H-REAP Native Vlan used for?

We have a few APs - CAP3502 and LAP1242s for the most part - whose H-REAP "Native Vlan" doesn't match the switchport's native vlan.  It appears that the switchport native vlan is what gets used for the AP for DHCP (it gets an AP IP address from that network).  If so, does anyone know what the purpose of specifying the native vlan on the H-REAP config is?  I can think of no useful purpose, but if there is one I'd appreciate anyone who could say.
    Thanks.
BTW this is on a 5508 controller running 7.0.240.0 code.

Thanks Scott - further info:  the Vlan Mappings are filled in with the appropriate Vlans, which are separate from the AP native vlan.  In this case vlans 202, 203, 204 and 206 are assigned to various SSIDs and the Native Vlan for the AP is set to 201.  The switchport is set to trunk all vlans and has native vlan 221, and it is from vlan 221 that the AP get's its own IP.
So on the one hand, if specifying the 'native' vlan were to avoid cases where the wrong vlan was native on the switch (and so, to tell the AP which vlan to use for itself and control traffic), I would expect the AP to have a vlan201 address.
If on the other hand this is merely a 'documentary' setting to say what the 'native vlan' *should* be, then I would expect the AP to have a vlan221 IP, which it does.
Just trying to find out if this setting does anything more than document.

  • H-REAP Native VLAN

In reading the design guides I see that I have to use the Native vlan to send all the CAPWAP traffic for the AP in H-REAP mode. I normally place an unused VLAN as the native vlan to prevent VLAN hopping. How can I do this with the H-REAP AP?

I'm not quite following your concern...
An AP, Local or HREAP mode, is only able to communicate via its Native Vlan.  Whatever you define on the switchport as the native vlan, that is the vlan your AP will technically reside in.   Any other vlans you trunk in will be used for client access if configured (and hreap).
So although I don't think I'm following exactly what you're asking, I think I'm answering it
Bottom line, whatever you define as the "Native Vlan" on the switchport, that is the vlan of your AP.... no way around this as far as I know.

  • VLAN issues when creating/modifying vNIC Templates

Sort of an odd issue, all of the VLANs that have been created do not show up when creating/modifying a vNIC Template.  All of the VLANs have been created globally under the LAN Cloud as well as Appliances.
I have 9 VLANs total, yet UCS Manager will only display 5 when modifying or creating a vNIC Template.
I'm running UCS Manager 1.4(1m) and am experiencing the same issue on another suite of UCS gear that is running 1.4(1i).  Anyone else experiencing the same?

I have seen odd issues with templates as they do not verify the values you are giving it.
    Real world example:
You have 3 major deployment sites.  If someone scripts the configuration at site 1, folks in site 2 may have used a different ascii name on their vlan naming.  When you deploy the template, you give it VLAN_MGMT.  However, the device running that script for the templates has the same vlan BUT was named VLAN-MGMT.  Therefore, the templates will not show all the vlans.
To correct this, you could create the vlan necessary based on the naming convention and the template MAY reference it correctly.
Let us know if all the T's are crossed and I's are dotted. :-)

  • Another Cisco prime template Q. Adding numbers to vlan

    Hi
Im fidling with these templates. Got some good help in the last one, and some fine input and got that solved. So now im on to the next issue i have.
I will make some automation to adding VLAN.
Each location i have, has 20 vlan.
    Location 1 has vlan 20-39
    Location 2 has vlan 40-59
Location 3 has vlan 60-79 and so on.
The naming of my vlan is always the same.
Vlan 20 (40 and 60 etc) is: ADM
Vlan 21 (41 and 61 etc) is: ALARM
Vlan 22 (42 and 62 etc) is: WIFI
Vlan 23 (43 and 63 etc) is: INT
    and so on.
What i would like to have is if the template could be so i just enter the vlan number for the first vlan.
So if i enter vlan 20 in the template, it will automatic name that ADM as well.
And then it will make a (20+1) vlan 21 named alarm and so on and so on.
    Is that even possible ?
Would save me a ton of time :)
    Thx
    / Carsten

    Carsten,
What you have listed could be scripted using Apache VTL with a few #if statements.
    Example:
    #if  ($vlanid eq "20")
           vlan $vlanid
           name ADM
           exit
           vlan 21
           name ALARM
           exit
           vlan22
           name WIFI
           exit
....and so forth to completion.  You might try setting this up using the foreach loop until it stops that way.  For my variable I used a drop down variable for $vlanid in this example.  So if your vlan ids jump by 20s as you have shown you could define the drop down variable as 20,40,60, so that it is point and click.  Be advised though that if you want to assign specific vlans to specific ports you will have to add that in there.  But again if those ports are always the same in your network that could be included in the same template by adding the interface, and switchport configs.  Here is the output of my test config based on your details minus the interface assignments.
    ============================================================================
    #if ($vlanid eq "20")
          vlan $vlanid
          name ADM
          exit
          vlan 21
          name ALARM
          exit
          vlan 22
          name WIFI
          exit
    #end
    #if ($vlanid eq "40")
          vlan $vlanid
          name ADM
          exit
          vlan 41
          name ALARM
          exit
          vlan 42
          name WIFI
          exit
    #end
