H264 to PAL 25fps

Hey folks. I have an h264 NTSC 29fps 60hz... I'm trying to turn it into a 50herts PAL. Not having much luck figuring out what settings to use.
It's an HDV, so I'm trying to keep that in the final output. Any suggestions?

Thanks very much for the response and for testing.
So, once I have conformed and it is 25fps, then I convert to PAL, right?
But won't the conversion to PAL, either through FCP or through Nattress Conversion add the 25th double frame, or maybe there's an option for fixing that.
many thanks.
Have to go out now, so if you answer my question, I can only reply later tonight.
best wishes and thanks again

  • PAL 25fps to Progressive for DVD

Is there a guide somewhere which states how to correctly convert between PAL 25fps video (telecined from film) to NTSC Progressive, with the 4% slowdown added and using the very best possible quality settings?
I'm confused about conforming the PAL video file - do I conform to 24 or 23.98 for progressive video? I then need to do the conversion using Compressor, then again to produce the .m2v and audio files ready for DVDSP import.
Can anybody offer some advice on the best way to achive this?

  • Changing the Videocamera Framerate from NTSC (30fps) to PAL (25fps)

When I am using the IPhone4 videocamera (with ios4.2.1) ... the framerate is something between 23.999 til 30 frames. That is very horrible for european and australian users because there is the PAL standard of 25fps valid. If you transform movies with a framerat of 30 to 25 frames, the movie looks very ugly. The picture jumps because of lost pictures through the transformation.
A videocamera without a option button for NTSC (30fps) or PAL (25fps) is for people out of NTSC Country very useless. Why doesn't fix Apple this? Evere simple Videocamera in a Handy has this option. HD 720 helps in that case nothing.

glad I could help... you're welcome...
Apple is letting the side down with it's intuitive software on that front!
... hmm, I'm pretty sure, they spend hours in a sweaty conference room, discussing "but widescreen isn't NTSC, HiDef isn't NTSC - so it HAS to be called by its fps!" - "but NO ordinairy user knows the framerate of its homevideo!" - "yeah, but the new formats are not standard, so it's not NTSC!" - "yeah, but a US video is called NTSC, that is standard" - "but what about Japan?" - "..."
finally, the "enigneers" won.. technical correct, but for you and me.. cryptical.

  • Is it possible to create a PAL 25fps progressive MPEG2 encode?

And is there any benefit as opposed to a standard interlaced transfer? We've got a PAL 25fps digibeta from a film based source, which is a down-conversion from the HD 24fps master.

    Can anybody help with this?

    tausend Dank schon mal

Well it tells me the footage is not 25 fps.
This news to me as the camera is set to to PAL and I thought PAL is shot at 25 fps?
PAL is 25 fps. It's possible that you made a mistake somewhere along the line.
Open the original media (inside the Capture Scratch folder) in QuickTime Player
and choose Get Info. Is the framerate 25? If not, then you captured it incorrectly
    or you accidentally changed it.
Cinema Tools works great for conforming, but if you try something, it will
save to the file without asking you. Maybe that happened while you were
    experimenting.
So I selected a scene in the time line and choose conform 25 to 24 in tools.
To conform you need to select the clip in the Browser, not the Timeline.
If you conform the clip, then the file gets changed, so every instance
    on the Timeline is changed.
When you've got your 25 footage conformed to 24, you'll notice that the
sound is pitched lower, so you'll need to change the pitch of the sound track + 4.17%.
Of course, the question remains: does it look "nicer"?

  • H264 MP4 PAL to NTSC DVD

Im having issues convertin an H264 mp4 PAL file to an NTSC DVD.  Im getting blocking and stuttering on playback after I use Toast to burn the DVD.  Ive tried to convert the files in mpeg stream clip and in QT but to no avail.  Getting errors with both.  This is an odd scenario in my book, so I figured I would put it out there to see if anyone has had any luck.  Thanks All.

Have you tried JES Deinterlacer? Much better for transcoding.
Also, it might be advantageous to convert first into an editable video (anything with low compression) before transcoding. The way you do it, you are asking for two major steps simultaneaously.
Also, do the encoding to MPEG2 (for the DVD) as a separate last step (in Compressor)

It needs to convert to 25fps at some point as well.

  • Converting 23.976 ProRes to PAL 25fps.

I need to convert some 23.98HD ProRes to PAL SD.
I tried using Graeme Nattress' conversion software, but I find that there is a slight stutter where his software creates an extra frame - the 25th frame. He advised me to use Cinema Tools to create a file which runs 4% faster via the "conform" option.
However, I have no idea how to do this and can't find anything helpful in the manual.
Can anyone give me guidance, some sort of workflow or a page in the manual - in short, anything to assist me?

  • DVX-100B, PAL, 25fps, progressive

Does anyone know what the best settings for importing progressive footage from a DVX100B (25FPS, PAL) is? I imported everything in the standard DV-PAL setting but when I finally export the movie for the web (progressive) it seems that the whole clip looses quality – like de-interlacing interlaced material?!
Can anyone help me with that issue? Thanks in advance!

    Hi:
Try exporting a small part of your timeline (just some seconds to compare with the other exports you did) directly from FCP through Export Using Compressor option, select the Web Download (Quicktime 7 compatible) H.264 800Kbps or H.264 LAN. Those presets use to give you very high quality.

  • How do I change PAL 25fps to 50fps in compressor?

    Hi,
I have a EX1 and have finally managed to get some decent SD footage by editing in HD 1280 x 1080 50P HQ in FCP (I do click yes when it asks me if I would like to keep if I would like to change sequence settings to match the slip settings - which always baffles me a bit, because I have already set the sequence to the settings of the clip).
I then export as a quick time (not self contained) and select a 90 minute DVD in compressor. The only option I get is for 25fps (I do need it in PAL). How do I keep the original 50fps that it was shot in?
    Thanks

PAL footage for DVDs is 25 fps. The only other option is 24p. The DVD specs do not allow for 50 fps footage.

  • My Cannon HF 100 native format is 50i but when iMovie loads it up it says the it is at 30 fps - for PAL 25fps 50 i would be ideal one would hav ethought - any experts out there. movies in NSTC seem to be without the interference patterns (jiggling leaves)

my canon HF50 is set to a native 50i frame rate. When I load it into iMovie from the chip iMovie says it is at 30 fps. Interestingly editing it int NSTC (american TV format) I do not seem to get the horrible interference patterns (twitching leaves, vibrating paralell lines that I have with doing the same clips as PAL, )the british format).

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • NTSC to PAL (from 29fps to 25fps) need help

    Hey Folks,
I read this post here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2675891
And I wasn't able to reply to it since it was closed... so here's my situation. I shot a music video on my Sony TRV-19 camcorder @ 29fps (not positive if it's Progressive or Interlaced, though my guess is Interlaced) and the lable in Europe needs it in PAL @ 25fps... so what I'm doing now is converting it through compressor @ the PAL settings 720/576 25fps...
Will I be able to view the PAL format on my computer? I'm in Canada now. What can I do to get that format to play properly in Europe, without any scanlines and loss of quality?
Is anyone willing to help me out? Appreciate your type folks.
    my best
    -Joey

I wouldn't recommend using Compressor. You might consider Nattress Standards Conversion.

  • Optimun settings for Widescreen mp2 (m2v) converted to mp4/h264

ive recorded a few films of freeview (UK digital terrestrial tv - PAL-25fps) and, after exporting as m2v file (mpeg2), i want to convert to mp4 / h264 and have a good picture quality when watching on a 20inch imac.
At the mo ive tried using 368x208 (very small widescreen setting) with around 600kbps, keyframe every 25fps (to avoid that pulsing keyframe effect that i find really annoying with mp4).
Can anyone share with me a good setting for good quality mp4 ready to be viewed on a 20inch imac - hopefully alot smaller than mp2 (1.8gb for a 1hr40min film) - managed to get this 1.8gb down to around 1gb for a 1.40hr film

i know- just doing it in qt because i couldn't see a 'key frame every...' function in stream clip.
Cant see a export to apple tv function theres just a ipod button in the encode settings box. - im using version 1.8

  • NTSC to PAL or PAL to NTSC

I have a client shooting a project in a couple of days and they are wondering what is the best frame rate to shoot at. They will be shooting to HDCAM SR 1920 x 1080 4:2:2 YCbCr 10 bit or to a drive 2880 x 2160 RAW 12 bit Bayer data. If they shoot 2k, the files would be rendered out into 1920 x 1080 Quicktimes to work with.
Ultimately, the project will end up as 1000 NTSC DVDs and 1000 PAL DVDs.
I will be editing with FCP and creating the DVD with DVDSP.
I had received advice to shoot everything PAL 25fps, and then convert the final product to NTSC. We never work with PAL so I was wondering if it would be better to shoot NTSC and then convert the final product to PAL.
I'm new to PAL so any advice, information or links to other posts/workflows will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    G.
One of the advantages of Shooting with a PAL camera is that you don't have too many frame rates to worry about and no pull down is needed.
You can shoot PAL (50 fields per second as opposed to NTSC 60 ) at 25frames ps (or better 50fps, talk to your DoP about this) edit easily with FCP on a PAL timeline and eventually convert to NTSC using [Nattress Standard Converter|http://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconvers ion.htm] or Compressor 3.
However, there are a couple of things you can take into account:
1)most DVD players nowadays can play both PAL and NTSC (Not all though)
2)If you are used to a specific workflow stick with it or do some tests before you take any decision.
You could shoot with a PAL camera and edit a few minutes in FCP, do a standard conversion with Compressor then encode and import the asset in DVDSP to burn a DVD to see if you are happy.
Testing is a crucial step of the work and hiring the camera for half a day will cost you much less than a rushed decision.
    Best,
    G.

  • How to sync NTSC and PAL clips to same frame rate for multicam edit

    Hi there,
First time poster so sorry for the newbie question. I'm trying to get 2 standard NTSC clips and 1 standard PAL clip about a hour long each which shot the same event at the same time, to sync up so that I can go to multi-cam and edit them like a movie sequence. I tried that, but they start unsyncing about 10 minutes in. I gather it's because of the different frame rates. I tried using "interpret footage" and changed the PAL 25fps to 29.97fps and everything got sped up. I tried rendering the PAL clip as an NTSC clip but it ended up looking a bit fuzzier. As I want to end up with an NTSC clip in the end, how can I make these clips sync up properly?
Any, tips to help this newbie greatly appreciated with many thanks.

    Hi Jonathan,
It's not always so easy to do NTSC <-> PAL conversions, and it's impossible to do them in Premiere while maintaining any degree of quality.
You can do a good job of this with AviSynth (freeware) but the learning curve may be a bit steep for a newbie. I also hear that ProCoder ($500+) does a good job of this but I've never tried it.
As for the sync, you can chop up your PAL clip within the muticam sequence (leaving some "holes") and match up particular points manually. You'll obviously have to edit around the holes.
