H520 wireless card (realtek 8188e)-does it support dual band router

Solved!
Go to Solution.

hi Dia,
As per this pdf data sheet, the Realtek RTL8188EE is a single band (2.4Ghz) Wi-Fi card. If your router is a dual-band, you need to configure it to broadcast 2.4Ghz frequency so that the Ideacentre H520 can connect. Otherwise, it will not be able to connect to the 5Ghz band.

Does iPhone5 support 5GHz band/channels? If it does not support that I cannot use it. My neighbors all interfere on the 2.4GHz channels so I need to use the 5GHz channels to use WiFi on my phone. Home WiFi is getting too popular.

No problem. Enjoy it! It's a great piece of tech! Thanks for the points

  • Alternative simultaneous dual band router that supports NTFS?

I was totally smitten with my Airport Extreme, until I had to change all of my media hard drives to NTFS (they had hit the characters per directory limit that FAT32 has).
I need to keep them as NTFS, because my TV only reads FAT32 or NTFS hard drives (i.e. I couldn't change to HFS+)
So my question is, does anyone know of a simultaneous dual band router (5ghz + 2.4ghz) which has gigabit ethernet ports and a USB port which supports NTFS hard drives?
From researching, the big competitors are the Linksys WRT610N and the Netgear DIR-855. Problem is, the Linksys and Netgear support forums are filled with posts from people claiming NTFS hard drives either don't work at all, or are severely temperamental
I could go for a NAS, but I just managed to get a pair of 2TB Western Digital USB hard drives for £98 each. I've been unable to find a 2TB (single hard drive) NAS for less than £170.

Can I use my wireless or an extra router along with the Verizon provided router?

  • Wireless Expander WRE54G and Dual Band router WRT610N

I used to have a band G-type network with a Linksys Router and a Wireless Expander WRE54G. It worked fine.
Now I have a WRT610 N Dual Band router. I am trying to connect the WRE54G to the netowrk (using the G-band of course) but it doesn't work. Runnig the Setup utility from the CD (og the Range Expander) ends in a "Site survey" which terminates with an error "Site survey fail". Maybe the installation program is not able to handle the WRT610N.
    Any suggestions?

Press and hold the reset button on WRE for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your Expander, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...
Connect your Expander to a computer, click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections - Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0...Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...
Now open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240. Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...It should open your Expander set-up...
Once you get to the set-up page, change the Expander Settings...While changing the Expander settings you have to make sure that the Wireless Settings(SSID/Network Name and WEP/WPA Key) are identical on both the devices(Router and Expander)...Also make sure to change the Expander's default IP to match your network and Gateway Address should be your Router's address...ex.Expander's IP Address : 192.168.1.240(assuming your router's default IP Address is 192.168.1.1),Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1...
After configuring the Expander you should disconnect it from the Computer and go into Local Area Connection TCP/IP Properties and set it back to Obtain IP Address Automatically...Disconnect the Expander from the computer and power cycle both the devices(Expander and Router) ...Your Expander should be configured...

  • NetGear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR 3400

    Hi all,
My neighbor and I (Sarah) both live on the second floor of a circa 1820 house.
Wi-fi is included in our rent.
Neither of us can connect to the house's NetGear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router (which is on the first floor) with our MacBooks (both purchased new earlier this year and both running Mac OS 10.7).
We can connect to the network with our iPhones, iPads and Windows Notebooks.
But when we try to connect with our MacBooks, we get a connection timeout error.
Any help would be mucho appreciated.
    Mike

This is a part of the larger MacBook Pro connectivity issue. There are several related threads dealing with the MBP's networking problems. If your unit is suffering from this type of difficulty, good luck ... (or a long ethernet cable)

  • Supported Dual Band Wifi Card for s230u Twist?

I just bought the s230u Twist and realized that the Intel 2230 wifi card is *not* dual band (2.4 GHz only).  I also realize that the BIOS has a whitelist for mini-pci cards and need to know if there are any dual band cards that are supported.  Thanks.

    Hey there guys,
Jccheng, the ThinkPad a/b/g/n Wireless & Bluetooth 4.0 (2x2 ABGN & BT 4.0) is a dual band adapter that is compatible and comes as upgrade with the ThinkPad Twist s230u. The 802.11a only runs on a 5Ghz Frequency, and the 802.11n can run on either. I have listed all the adapter options with part numbers below:
    04W3763 Cybertan BCM43228+BCM20702 abgn WLAN & BT 4.0 Combo (ThinkPad a/b/g/n)
    04W3764 Liteon BCM43228+BCM20702 abgn WLAN & BT 4.0 Combo (ThinkPad a/b/g/n)
    04W3765 Intel 2x2 11bgn + BT4.0 Combo Jackson Peak1 (Centrino 2230)
As an option, you can call the Lenovo Contact Center, 1-800-426-7378, for a Parts Only order. Hope this helps!
Ophion, are you looking for the Intel Card for a specific feature?

  • Cisco Wireless - N E2500 Dual Band Router and Hide SSID

    Hi,
I have tried to hide my SSID by dis-enabling The SSID broadcasts of first one then the other band.
Once I dis-enabled the SSID broadcast of the last band my laptop, which has the wireless card, would lose connection to the internet on reboot.
I have read somewhere but now cannot find the article, that one can hide ones SSID but that it requires some work to connect to a network that is no longer broadcasting.
Anyone have knowledge on how to go about this or maybe they could point me to a resource that discusses how to set this up....thanks.
    Tom.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks Exotic Fish ... Do you no anything about the Dual Band.
I understand that we can only use one band at a time ... that is great ....so I have the 2.4Ghz connecting automatically.
When does the 5Ghz kick in ... if it does ... or do you have to manually connect to it?
    Thanks.
    Tom.

  • Why does the new Dual-Band AirPort Extreme Base Station act as a proxy?

    The previous thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1531675
has been archived and nothing came of it, but after testing, I'm certain that their findings are true.
The Dual-Band AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) with firmware 7.4.1 acts as a proxy for TCP ports 21, 554, and 7070 when NAT is turned on. This can be verified by using Nmap on any external server known to NOT have the ports open and having Nmap return that the ports are open. You can telnet to these ports to verify that they're "open," even though they are not on the server.
This functionality appears to be undocumented and as far as I can tell, the only way to turn it off is to put the AEBS into bridge mode and having some other device do NAT further upstream.
As a computer professional, this functionality extremely undesirable, particularly since it is not documented and doesn't have an "off switch." I wasted a bunch of time with one of my network engineers because of this, thinking that some network router was spoofing our server. I also wasted a bunch of my time trying to detect whatever "stealthy rootkit" had opened a FTP server and some other botnet related ports on our server, when in reality, it was simply my AEBS tricking me.
Disabling NAT-PMP ("Enable NAT port mapping protocol") does not affect this.
Is it too much to ask to have a checkbox in the "Advanced" section of the AirPort Utility to turn this feature off?

Welcome to the discussions forum Michael Bennett2.
Thanks for investigating this odd behavior.
If you want your work to be noticed by those who can effect change, you'll have to tell Apple via their feedback link. It won't do any good to post it here.

  • Does mac mini (late 2014) supports dual-band wifi sharing?

    Hello,
First of all, i'm not native speaker, so, please excuse my poor english.
I have a mac mini (late 2014) and use the wifi-sharing feature of yosemite.
(Ethernet is connected to Mac mini and other devices such as mac air are connected to Mac mini through wifi)
For wifi-sharing, channel 44 is used, and as i know, it is located on 5Ghz band.
By the way, i plan to buy a sony srs x7 bluetooth speaker which also supports airplay only on 2.4GHz wifi internet.
If i wanna connect that speaker to Mac-mini's hotspot, should i change the wifi-channel of mac-mini to 2.4GHz band? or, can mac mini provides wifi hotspot for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously?

Bluetooth is a different network than the wifi network. BT is 2.4 GHz only while wifi cn be 2.4 and/or 5 GHz.
Your BT speakers will work fine using the BT capability of the Mac

  • IMovie6 does not support dual monitors?

I have been using iMovie3 and 5 with OS 10.3.9 until this July when I decided it was time to overhaul both hardware and apps. Upped RAM to 4gb, added second HD, firmware updates, OS 10.4.10, and iLife6. The HDs were zeroed before install and have latest updates for all apps.
I have always been able to stretch the movie window across both screens, a very long timeline, but iM6 will only fill one screen. I can drag it anywhere except off the edges.
Is there a setting I'm missing, or is this another usablity solution, to a problem I didn't have. Thanx for any info.

    What do you mean?
You can move the iMovie window from one monitor to the other but you cannot stretch the window across two monitors.
Still, two monitors is better than one. If you need more room you could get the 30 inch Cinema display. It is only 1799.00. Pocket change.

  • EA2700 Wireless Dual-Band Router

I just had a strange thing happen to my EA2700 Router. I connected my Cable Modem to an "Old" Apple AirPort Base Station with an eMac PC to test it online.
    After I switched the Cable Modem back to my EA2700, the START IP ADDRESS on the EA2700 had changed;
From : 192.168.x.1  - to - 10.160.76.223! and I couldn't get the router to RESET back to Factory Default Settings with the rear reset button, no matter what I did (powered ON Reset or Power UP Reset).
I finally had to sign into it with the 10.160.76.223IP, and change it back to 192.168.x.1 for all my PC's, printers and other devices to work again. I checked to see if there is a FIRMWARE update for the Non-Cloud version of the EA2700, but NADA.
    By the way, the CLOUD version DOES have Firmware updates available, but the Release Notes don't say much besides;
"Replaced Legacy browser-based configuration utility to Cisco Connect Cloud service" (Version1.1.38.138143)
    Dated: June 25, 2012.
and "Minor update in firmware upgrade logic to support easier recovery to previous firmware"
    (v1.1.38 (Build 138827); v1.1.38 (Build 138828) & 1.1.38.138880 (for web manual download only), ALL dated: July 6, 2012.
I also did brief Google search for any associated problems. Nada, again. I've found problems like these usually require a firmware update to resolve.
Has anyone seen this before? and If so, what caused/causes it? Do I need to Update to one of the v1.1.38 Builds?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, BUT, you're talking about the EXTERNAL Internet Facing IP Address from the Cable Modem.
I know the EXTERNAL Internet Facing IP Address from the Cable Modem can/will change due to the ISP's DHCP server.
I'm talking about the INTERNAL Local/Home Network Facing IP Address.
In other words, the one the devices see that are connected to the Router, WIRED via it's built-in SWITCH Ports,
and/or WIRELESSLY through the Routers built-in wireless NIC.
The INTERNAL Local/Home Network Facing IP Address is controlled by the Router's Internal DHCP Server Function.
The Start/Starting IP Address, is deteremined throught the Basic Setup Page of the Router's Configuration.
That's the IP Address that got changed after the Cable Modem was plugged into the Apple AirPort Base Station!
As opposed to Linksys/Cisco (and many other Router manufacturers) who use 192.168.x.1 as a DEFAULT Internal Starting IP Address, Apple always uses 10.x.x.x Starting IP Addresses in their AirPort Base Stations/Routers.
It seems like somehow  the Cable Modem picked up a 10.x.x.x type IP Address from the Apple AirPort and then sent it to the EA2700 Router after it was reconnected to the Linksys/Cisco router.
My personal mystery, confusion, and questions is; How in the heck did it RECONFIGURE the Linksys/Cisco Router's INTERNAL Start IP Address? The Linksys/Cisco Router's INTERNAL Firewall should NEVER allow an EXTERNAL Device to change ANYTHING in the Router unless Remote Management Access is ENABLED (which it WAS NOT!).
