H55-G43 Stability Problems

Long winded, sorry in advance and I appreciate anyone reading. I'm not an expert yet but I'm learning more every day. Here goes:
I built this rig a couple of months ago, second one I've ever built on my own. Been having intermittent issues ever since. Sometimes it will run great for a couple of weeks, and then it starts crashing again - a night filled with blue screen after blue screen, though sometimes mixed in with a BSOD will be Windows telling me it's not Genuine, or my ethernet and sound drivers go out of whack. (Though that's usually fixed in 2 or 3 minutes because it BSODs again.)
Now, I am using Win7 64 bit, which I'm sure is probably some part of my problem. However, this board can support up to 16GB of memory, so I do plan to go past my current 4GB. I do a lot of video/graphic work and gaming (I built the box with FFXIV in mind, though that game SUCKS.) I'm not doing any overclocking, RAID, or anything special. I'm just using it out of the box.
Some of the BSODs have included: BAD_POOL_HEADER, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, and APC_INDEX_MISMATCH.
I have tried SO many things to try and fix this, here's a list of what I can remember trying:
~ Bios updated from 1.0 to 1.4
~ MemCheck86 is clean.
~ Firmware on hard drive and CD drive is up to date
~ System restore sometimes helps stop the cycle for one night, but then it's back the next day.
~ Switched the positions of the memory chips.
~ Verified connections inside, SATA cables swapped, made sure no kinks.
~ Reformatted and started from scratch three times now. Fine for a few days (sometimes a week or more), then it starts again.
~ When it's having a "crash night" (multiple BSODs in a row), safe mode doesn't help. It will blue screen in safe mode, too.
One other odd symptom, and maybe this is my clue on what to RMA first. Ever since I built it, I noticed that it takes 2-3 seconds after pressing the power button for the system to actually begin to power on. Not a big deal and I ignored it at first, but now I'm wondering. When I swapped the places of the memory, this went away briefly (though it returned).
Another thing I have noticed is that in the Device Manager, there is a PCI Simple Communications Controller (PCI Bus 0, Device 22) that has no driver, and Windows can't find one. I've downloaded and installed all the drivers for this board from both MSI and Intel, but it still insists that there is something it doesn't know how to run. Not sure if this phantom device is my BSOD problem or not, but I'd like to eliminate it as a cause.
Is there a particular device on this mainboard known to have this problem? I looked at the hardware ID of this unknown one and saw that it does strangely have the same ID of the ethernet card (which is working fine at present). Now, I used the MSI updater and it says there's a new ethernet driver right now (updated 9.27.10). Great. However, when I try to run it, it's failing with a popup of "Findfile failed". I removed the ethernet driver, ran DriverSweeper (though I don't think it found anything ethernet related), then tried again with this fresh version. It fails again with the "Findfile failed, and doesn't install at all. I had to let Windows automatically put the driver back, which works all right.
MSI simply asked me to retest HDD, memory, and CPU, but I do not have the resources to do this - I have no extra components around that fit the CPU and memory. I did test the HDD and know it to be sound, even though it's a little on the old side.
I'm to the point of starting to RMA components until I figure out which one it is, but I'd be very happy for any suggestions that will help me avoid that path. Last problems I had were 4-5 days ago. The intermittent nature makes it extremely difficult to figure out what's going on!
~Sarah

Well whaddya know.
So with one chip I let it run a few days. No blue screens since I last wrote, so I decided to go ahead and swap out the chips.
The delay between pressing the power button and the system actually booting was gone again the first time. Yet the moment Windows 7 booted, we went blue screen again, with ntfs.sys error listed. However, a reboot seems to be functioning, I still have that chip in now as I'm writing this.
Does that tell us anything? I would assume this means this is a bad stick of RAM. I browsed around in the Event Viewer and wasn't sure what information might be helpful. Is there a log I can rummage up that will help?
Thanks again for your assistance.
~Sarah

  • Various 4G / 5G stability problems and now my iPod is USB 1.1 only!

    Hi,
I bought a brand new iPod a week or two ago and it worked fine for one sync. Then the battery was running low (because I'd been using it!) so I plugged it in and iTunes synced automatically and the battery charged. after the sync I hit "eject" in iTunes so that the battery would just charge.
I returned to find that the iPod was still mounted! Very strange. I ejected again..... and it seems that what was happening was when the iPod was ejected it simply rebooted and when it came back up was mounted automatically again!
I ejected and unplugged the iPod and it was no longer stable - I would get to the menu and almost to play a song and it would reset. It seemed like my speed was the limiting factor (i.e. the iPod would only stay up for n seconds), rather than it crashing because I tried a particular function.
I saw this unstable behaviour with my old iPod (4G, firewire on this same machine) too where I had to reflash it to get it working again reliably.
So, I reflash the (new) device with the iPod Updater software downloaded for me by Software Update. It resets, and all seems well, with the rather catastrophic exception that now the iPod is only recognised as a USB 1.1 device according to System Profiler! The transfer speed is very very slow.
This is really a bit of a showstopper for my user experience. I have tried:
    - Resetting my computer
    - Changing the cable (I have two USB2.0 cables and 1 USB2.0/Firewire cable which I have tried all of)
    - Changing USB ports (including taking ALL my USB devices away and plugging the iPod directly into the back of the desktop machine)
    - Reflashing the iPod again
    I have NOT tried:
    - re-downloading the iPod Updater from Apple and using that (I'm downloading it now)
    So.... the questions are:
    - Has the firmware updater somehow made my iPod appear to be a USB1.1 device?
    - Or is this a hardware fault and I need to return the iPod to be fixed?
    - Is this stability problem a commonly observed one?
    - If so what can I do to avoid it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil.

  • Neo2 platinum Encountering Stability Problems /w dual channel memory

    Hello,
Recently I built my first computer ever, see bottom.  After getting windows installed I then had problems with installing other programs and general stability issues.  I tried reinstalling windows and after the reinstall I got the same problems.
Something to do with the instability is when I start it up, and go into BIOS, it states my Athlon 64 3500+ as running at 2211, a half percent overclock.  Also, even though I have the FSB set as 200mhz, when I go into CoreCenter on windows it states the FSB as being set 201mhz.  In the nVidia system utility, it states my memory as running at 402mhz, and I had to crank that down to 400mhz to get stability, it allowed my to install programs without error, but there were still stability problems like crashes(blue screen, the computer just plain restarting without notice).  I took out one of my memory cards, both of them work alone though, I've ran memory test utilities.  That had a good effect and the computer runs fairly stable, but I still have problems, and I want to be able to take advantage of dual channel.  I'm running my memory on auto and it's using the times of 2-3-3-6-2T.
Another problem I'm experiencing is the AC97 audio not being detected and loaded by windows, it will say I have no audio device, and the speaker will not show up in the notification area in the bottom right-hand corner.  This happens inconsistantly.
                               -Thank You

    hi bknoll,
    welcome to the forum.

which test utilities did you use, Don't quiet understand  Quote
had a good effect and the computer runs fairly stable
    3) It may be worth checking the Mushkin site or any documentation you have to verify that the auto settings agree with the quoted settings for the modules. It's not unkown for errors to occur when the memory controller on the CPU to misinterpret the SPD chip setting on your sticks - this is where the auto settings come from. Some memory like certain corsair modules need to run at different settings on AMD64, thus auto timings must be overidden,
    4) Have you installed the Realtek drivers from the CD, & enabled onboard sound in Bios. When these are done normally there's the MSI Sound Effect manager in control panel. you just need to set your speaker config in the Windows Sounds & Audio Devices.
    5) Usual question What power supply are you using as been underpowered on the 12v rail in particular can be the cause of crashes,

  • Updating my BIOS, have stability problem

    Hi
I have been told on a PC tech forum that my new motherboard may be compatible with this CPU I bought ages ago.

I am new at this and I don't want to damage my PC.
I've been reading about and I think my PC may be unstable and I hear that I shouldn't update because of that.
I occationally have hardware failure crashes (blue screen) and I was hoping that this new processor could change all of that (I have narrowed down the source of the crashes to my hard drive, RAM(maybe) or processor).
It might be the case that my BIOS is already 1.2 and I can skip all of this but I don't know how to check my current version.

    Hi Henry, thanks for responding.
I have changed my sig, hope its alright.
I will give some info on my stability problem. I'm a novice when it comes to pc hardware so sorry if I come off a bit dense.
For a while now I have had the same anoying problem with my PC. HD videos and video games run really slow, it's not that I am unable to play them it's just that my PC struggles and they stutter, even though I have been told that my PC should be able to handle them no problem. And my PC keeps crashing sometimes with and sometimes without a blue screen hardware failure.
Over the last couple years I have been upgrading my PC, I added 3gig of ram, then I got an nVidia 8500, then PSU, motherboard, added another internal hdd but the same problem pursists. The only components I haven't upgraded are my CPU and my original hard drive. Everytime I upgrade, my PC runs a little bit faster, but still not as it should be.
I recently got Win7 from my university and I tried to install it on a partition but everytime I try I get a blue screen (hardware failure)
The weird thing is half the time when my PC crashes, it will crash again but if I'm lucky, if I can restart my PC after I get a bue screen, then my PC will run perfectly fine, HD vidoes work perfectly and so do my games. Usually to get my PC into this state, I need to keep restarting my PC just waiting for it to crash so my PC works properly.
I'm guessing that it's either, my CPU, hard drive or ram(maybe) causing the problem. I have tested each stick of ram individually but it didn't make a difference in my performance so I assume they are both fine (or it's both of them).
right now I'm trying to upgrade my CPU to the
    intel Core 2 Quad
    Freq. 2.50GHz
    FSB 1333MHz
    L2 Cache 4MB
    Core 45nm
    Socket LGA 775
    PCG 05A
    Q8300
But I need to update my BIOS to 1.2 (currently I am 1.1), which I am reluctant to do because I'm worried that my PC will crash.
    Thanks
    Russ

  • Video lag at start and stability problems in Android 4 (ICS) when using Video and StageVideo

I'm experiencing some problems with video playback in a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet, which comes with Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
In Android 3 (Honeycomb) and 2 (Gingerbread and Froyo) video playback worked perfectly and started with no lag, but in Android 4 video takes like a couple of seconds to start, showing nothing during that time.
This problem happens when using either Video and StageVideo objects, but when using StageVideo, there's also another problem: When playing back a second video after having closed the first, even after some minutes, when starting the next video I can see during those couple of seconds a still image of the previous video, in the part where it was stopped. Why?
None of this happened in Android 3 and 2, so I don't think it's something related to my code (and I've reviewed it several times to try and find a solution). This seems to be an Android 4 specific issue with AIR, since I've tried several Android 4 tablets of different brands and all of them show this behaviour. I've tried with AIR 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 beta, and this problem happens in all three.
Also, there are some random stability problems if the app goes to sleep while playing a video. Sometimes, it doesn't wake up properly and freezes, giving you a "force close" Android message. Sometimes it wakes up properly but the video doesn't show or it's paused. All of this in "CPU" mode. In "Direct" mode it seems to work a little better.
BTW, can someone explain what's exactly the new "Direct" mode. I know it's needed for Stage3D, but I don't know why there's that specific mode, when there's GPU mode. Isn't Stage3D supposed to use the device's GPU? Well, Direct mode seems to be "better" than GPU in that filter effects work, whereas GPU mode doesn't support filters, so if you can use Stage3D while using filter effects, that's great.

Yes, it's unfortunately still not fixed. Also, I've looked into the bugbase report I filed:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3205172
And it seems they've CLOSED this bug!
They say that they can't "control the video overlay buffer that is still in the hardware. This really depend on how ICS handle their buffer and external playback".
The only workaround is NOT using StageVideo, but just regular video. But then you can't use hardware acceleration!
Also, there's the crashing bug, which is even more important. Video crashes too often, especially in off-brand tablets, which are becoming very common!

  • Stability Problems/MSI K7D-L 6501

Note* To other members that have helped so far, I appreciate it a lot*
As I mentioned earlier in a topic, I asked about what values were good for a power supply, now I'm asking for a help with Stability problems. Since I have installed this power supply, I have used MSI's Pc Alert 3 program, Speedfan, and Motherboard Monitor. The problem is as follows.
When I first cold boot, everything seems to be in check, once it begins windows, it complete hangs, and then reboots, byself. Once it reboots, it starts windows 2000 fine. After PC alert starts, say anywhere from 1 to 10 mins, I get error messages in the log for Chassis fan not operational, and it shows ZERO, Same as speedfan, motherboard monitor. Then I get Voltage spikes and drops, Standby, +12v, Battery, CPU VCore to high, to low, etc, ...Motherboard monitor and PC alert also records this too, where speedfan doesn't always catch it. But, also when it shows that the CPU fan's have ZERO RPM's and the Chassis is ZERO, they are all working. Now before I forget, I did have an Enlight 420, but now I have a AGI 400. Big mistake problably, i'm sure to find out. With the Enlight 420, it did show an error for Zero chassis fan, but I also believe that with everything I have running, I am well over Combined VOltage. I did some numbers and I think I should have something that is at least 450 or higher. I used the website http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ just to get an idea, and I didn't know that the xp's can consume up to 62 watts of power, add everything I have and your talking about 439 watts total.
I call the store that I got this power supply from,(Mind you I have only had since the 17th of Sept.) and they think it's hardware. Now my board doesn't show any problems such as bad caps, or etc. The DLED lights are showing everything is fine. They don't belive it is anything to do with the power supply, so I have to wait until they get a bigger wattage in so that I can swap it. Their website says they carry up to 500 and this sad, not to even have the merchandise in and still advertise it. I think that's FALSE ADVERTISING, and is punishable, since they want to charge me a restocking fee
If anybody has any suggestions or ideas, I'm willing to listen because my comp is down and it's bugging me to have all this hardware and money sitting here, and not able to use it.
    Thank You,
    Heatpipe
PS, Thanks Again to Wonkanoby for time and help, I didn't want him to think I had forgotten.

Well I tried that, and when windows started up the first time, 1/4 of the way and the screen just garbled over, did that for about 10 sec, and then rebooted and loaded windows as i mentioned earlier in the thread. I don't know what else to do really, maybe putthe  Enlight back in and see what that does

  • Stability problems since the last update

    hey there,
It's really easy and intuitive to work with Muse but since the last update I am facing a lot of stability problems with the software, just wanted to know if some of you do so too or I should reinstall it. Here are the Major Problems,
    - Zoning in further than 125/150 % will crash the program
-I am currently working on a 30mb (muse file size) big homepage about 8000px long. I didn't have any problems when stretching the page so long in the beginning but now the program will crash as soon I try so change the site length, including click an drag at the bottom and manual input via site->site properties.
    I work with Windows 7x64, a I7-3770 and 16gb Ram.
I use the other products of the CC as well and didn't face any stability problems so far even though i think some of them need way more workingpower :/
    So, what do you think?
    All the best, Lucas

If you have a large image on the page that was imported using File > Place or as part of a slideshow and it's being cropped in Muse, zooming in/out on the page can trigger a crash. I wish I could say this was newly introduced, but it's not. It's a bug we've been living with for awhile because the fix requires significant architectural changes. We've made those changes for the next major release (due out later this quarter), but this bug is still in Muse 7.
You can avoid this crash by resizing and cropping the image(s) outside of Muse before bringing them into Muse.
If you're interested in working with the new release in Beta, all subscribers who can accept the terms of the Non-disclosure Agreement are invited to join the Adobe Muse Private Beta Program at http://museprerelease.com
The crash when changing Site Properties may, or may not, be related to the large image(s). Can you provide a screenshot of any errors that appear? Thanks.

  • Stability problems with qemu

    hi all,
I've been playing around with qemu last week, but i'm experiencing some stability problems. But I can't really evoke a crash, it's just when i'm doing something in qemu (trying to install damnsmalllinux on hd) en that doesn't really work like it should, my entire pc hangs. If I'm lucky and the qemu window didn't have the focus, I can ctrl-alt-backspace en restart X, but the qemu sessions keep running (hanging?) in the background. pkill qemu doesn't cut it either.
As my laptop is getter somewhat older (2002), I'm a bit worried that the hardware is getting flaky.
Running kernel26 2.6.22.5-1, with qemu but without kqemu.
How the test what's the real problem?

QEMU has never felt very solid to me. I suggest you try VirtualBox.

  • Stability problems with PC companion

    Hi!
Just out of curiosity, am I the only one having stability problems with my PC after installing PC companion?
I'm getting three or four freezes per day after installing the suite and none after deinstalling.
("freezing": neither CtrlAltDel nor normal pushing of the switch off button work. I have to press the on/off button on the PC for 5s for a hardware switchoff)
We' seem to have traced it to a problem where a driver has the same name as one already installed on windows (apparently some fingerprint stuff). Unfortunately my colleague can't remember precise details anymore as it was some time ago.
    Does anyone experience similar problems?
    Lots of Greetings!

That could well be the root of the problem. Please look at the label on its side and list the specs for each rail (3.3v, 5v, 12v). If the card is not receiving enough power, it will not function correctly.

  • Performance and Stability Problem with PE9

I just upgraded my computer to a Core i5 with 8G of memory and everything is running much faster.  But my NEW PE9 just run very slow.  Some of the simple tasks take 10-30 second to complete.  Even Windows 7 will often come out to ask if I want to wait for PE9 to wake up or kill the process.  When I want to change the size of a video clip, it just doesn't work at all due to performance.  It will take PE9 20-30 seconds to resize the video clip.  Without some realtime feedback of the size, it is impossible to do the resizing and this is a very fundamental operation.  PE9 often crash or seize up as well, I didn't have any of these problem with PE3.0.  I upgraded to PE9 simply because my PE3.0 for WIndows XP is not comletely compatible with Windows 7 (some of the text displace does not show up).
Do anyone else have issue with performance and stability?

Some general comments, and reading (some for PPro, but concepts are the same)

  • Quad G5 Stability Problems / Slowness / Upgrade options?

Well, this is going to be a long post, so bear with me.
First, I'm totally Steve Job's dream. I bought the Mac Mini and it was a complete gateway drug, now I have a brand new PowerMac G5 Quadcore something or other. Okay. I use it for motion graphics work, mostly After Effects, but I've also got Final Cut Studio installed. I've had the G5 for a month now (I know it's almost obsolete by Mactel, but AE and Photoshop won't be available on Mactel for, like, eternity, so I upgraded early.)
So that's the setup. My problem is, the G5 quadcore tower is way less reliable than the Mac Mini was! The thing that impressed me about OS X and the mini was that nothing ever went wrong. I could be burning a DVD, listening to something on iTunes and doing a complex AE render, and Mac mini would figure it all out. I never had to reboot Mac mini unless a software update demanded it.
I've had two occassions now where the G5 tower completely crashed. I'll go over them in details.
The first time, I was using AE and previewing on a camcorder/TV over Firewire. So the set up is, PowerMac -> camcorder (Firewire) -> TV (S-video).
Okay, the first thing I did that might be weird is: I was running activity monitor during my AE renders to see the extent to which 4 cores were actually being used. I discovered to my surprise that even during my most complicated renders, PowerMac was only using 50% of its processing power. It engaged all 4 cores, but each of them never went over the 50% or maybe 60% utilitization. So either AE just isn't optimized, or there's an upgrade I should perform. (See details below.)
Okay, next weird thing. I put PowerMac to sleep with the camcorder still on, and woke PowerMac up a little later to continue working. Now I'd left the camcorder on this whole time. When I went back into AE and told it to preview to the Firewire again, PowerMac froze. I got the spinning beach ball. I thought, "Oh, sometimes that happen, I'll just wait and let PowerMac sort itself out." An hour later, though, I still had the spinning beach ball, so I had to reboot.
A day or so later, something similar happened. I was doing a complex render in AE. I had 20 minutes remaining. Knowing that the CPU was only used to 50%, I decided to watch the latest Channel Frederator in iTunes while the render completed. I turned iTunes to full screen mode to watch Frederator. After about ten minutes of this, I got a freaking KERNEL PANIC! I got weird text dumped at the top of the screen, and a sound sample from the Frederator I was watching was repeating over and over out of the speakers. Unfortunately I didn't think to write down the weird text.
So here (at last) are my questions:
    1. Why is PowerMac only using 50% of its CPU during renders? (Bear in mind, AE isn't GPU-enabled to my knowledge. So its renders are all CPU.) My only guess is, that the renders are memory or disk constrained. Adobe does recommend that I get a second hard drive for AE to store its temporary working files, so that AE and the OS X swap space aren't competing with each other. Does this make sense to anyone else? Also, I have 1.5 gig memory, is that too little?
    2. What is up with these crashes? This is like Windows XP land. Again, what sold me on the all-Mac graphics setup was the stability of the Mac mini.
2.a. Are there hardware diagnostics or software tests built-in to OS X that I can run to troubleshoot?
2.b. While setting up PowerMac, I copied system settings (and everything else) from Mac mini. I'm worried that there's a configuration file somewhere that's confusing PowerMac into thinking it's secretly a Mac mini or something. Of course, when I say that out loud, it sounds completely silly.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Paul
    Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    1. Only certain filters and effects in AE are well multithreaded and can take advantage of the four cores. I use AE a lot as well, and I can tell you this is normal. What you want to consider is buying the Nucleo plug-in from Gridiron Software at http://www.gridironxfactor.com/products/nucleo_overview.asp
This plug-in will allow AE to fully utilize all four cores on almost anything you're working on, except for effects that are temporally dependent, such as Particle Playground. You need to be using AE 6.5 or 7 to use Nucleo. I bought it and it's one of the best things I could've done. However, your 1.5 GB of RAM is rather small for using AE on a Quad. I'd consider bumping the RAM up to 4 - 4.5GB or so. If you AE 7, it can utilize 3 GB of RAM (previous versions were limited to 2GB).
    2. I bet you got the beachball when you returned from sleep because the camera had also gone to sleep and didn't wake up. I imagine that if you'd turned the camera off after waking up from sleep (or power cycled the camera - turn it off and then right back on) the beachball wouldn't have occured or would have gone away. I'm pretty sure I've had this happen to me on my Quad and PowerBook, and this always solved it. Not sure as to the reasons for the KP you got when using iTunes... sorry.
2a. Your machine would have come with the Apple Hardware Test which can be used to test the hardware of your machine. It's on the restore disc that came with the computer. You'l need to boot from the CD while holding down the option key. This will present you with a list of boot options, one of which will be the AHT. For testing memory, I'd recommend using Memtest which you can get a http://www.memtestosx.com For best results, you need to start in single-user mode so that it can test as much RAM as possible.
2b. I did a clean install of all my applications and whatnot on my Quad to avoid a problem like this... It's very time consuming, though. If you're concerned about this, you could delete all the preferences files from the computer and reboot, but you'll then have to reset your prefs in all your apps, and may have reenter some serial numbers as well. In any event, I wouldn't try this unless you start to have frequent issues. My Quad has KP'd once (while using Toast, I believe), but hasn't done so since. My PowerBook has never had a kernel panic.

  • Stability problems (want to share my experiences)

    Hi,
upgraded my systems without any issues during installation. My new MacMini took much longer than my old white MacBook 13".
After working a while, I discovered an issue:
    - system hangs and must be rebooted (this was very rare before)
MacMini is more often hanging. I guess it has something to do with network.
From time to time a click on a shared folder remains empty, after reboot all
is good again. Sometime finder doesn't react and I need a long press for reboot.
Does anyone else have the same experience?
    cheers,
    RaM

The stability of my computers is markedly better since the upgrade. Make sure all the software you are using has been updated so you are using the newest versions available. You should check that your browser plug-ins and various additions are also updated. That's no to say you have found a but that the beta testers hadn't tracked down but it is a good idea. You might also consider creating a new user account and see if the problem(s) disappear. If so, that gives decent evidence that the problem involves something in your account and not the computer as a whole.
