H55M-E21 LAN off (LED off) in S3 state, can't use wake on LAN (WOL)

I'm using H55M-E21 and Win7.
I can put PC to sleep mode (S3) and can wake it up by PS2 keyboard. Now I want to try remote desktop to wake up and connect to the slept PC. I can't connect to it.
The LAN link is down, the link LED from the back of PC is off.
In BIOS -> Power management -> ACPI on, BIOS on, ACPI Stanby state = S3, EuP2013 diabled
In Wakeup Event -> Resume by PCIor PCI-E device enbled.
Please help.

There are a few things you should check.  Go into device manager and open the properties for the NIC you are using for this remote connection.  First click on the Power Management tab and make sure the options are checked to "Allow this device to wake the computer".  I would uncheck the option to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" if it won't work while it's checked.  You should also check the magic packet box.
Click on the Advanced tab and enable the option for "Wake on Magic Packet" and "Wake on pattern match".  I can't recall if the "Shutdown Wake-On-Lan" option is supposed to be enabled or disabled but try enabled first.

  • Can I use Wake-On-LAN with P1606dn Printer?

I have a P1606dn laser printer which is remotely located and the power is remotely switched.
When it is first powered up, the button on the front has to be pressed to cajole the printer into life .  It lights up green and we are good to go.  After this, even if it has dropped into power saving mode, sending a print commnad wakes it up and network printing works fine.
However, I want to do away with the walk to press the button when it is first powered up.  I've tried using a Wake-On-LAN command to the IP and MAC addess of the printer, but nothing happens.
I realise I could leave it permananetly powered but don't want to do this because there are other devices on the same supply that need to be turned off at night.
How can I get it to wake up remotely?
    many thanks.
    This question was solved.

Whenever power is first applied to the P1606dn, that has been in a no-power state, the unit is turned Off. The unit's power light may be on, but the unit itself is off. Whenever you press the button, then the unit goes through the power up and obtains the IP address to function.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't get wake on lan to work on Hp n40l microserver

    Hello
I installed arch on my HP proliant microserver and I can not get Wake on lan to work. I tested my device with ethtool and it supports and is enabled for WOL with g value set for both.
But whenever I power it off by systemctl poweroff I can no longer see it as a connected device to my router
Before installing arch I tried ubuntu for testing the hardware quickly and I got wake on lan working there. I can not figure out what might be the issue here. Wake on lan is enabled in the BIOS.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Cheers

As I see in the Archwiki , the wol package would also need the IP address ( though not necessary ) along with the mac address of the server.
I fear that the nic on the server does not obtain an ip in shutdown state, since I can't see it in my attached devices in the router settings( I could be very wrong ! )
Tried using wol on a laptop running arch, but with no luck.
I have seen this workaround in several places
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/981461
I even tried creating a similar script which would first do
ip link set dev enp2s0 down
    systemctl poweroff
but that did not work either.
    Cheers

    Hy ,
My mac pro (SL 10.6.8) wakes up every minutes when I use wake on lan and I share one of my Hard Drive.
When I unplug the ethernet cable it doesn't wake any more so I suppose that some thing wakes it up on my network ( 1 printer canon MP620, 2 mac books, 2 iPads, 2 IPhones and 2 time capsules !) ...even when all these devices are "sleeping"
    Any idea?

  • Satellite C660 - how to enable and Use WAKE ON LAN?

    Hi All,
I previously posted asking about using Wake on Wireless LAN and was very helpfully advised that this was not possible, so I have started to explore the Wake ON LAN option.
I have a Toshiba C660 PSC0LE-00500JEN and have enabled Wake ON LAN on the BIOS, and have connected a LAN cable between my wireless router and the laptop, both of which recognise each other so the cable seems ok.
However, whether I use a WAKE ON LAN app on my android, or I use an online "wake on lan via browser" site, the laptop still remains asleep.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks
    James

    Hi
The Wake Up on Lan option would work if you would send an Magic Packet to the remote machine (notebook).
I have no experience using the Android app who knows if it function properly
Try other method. For example using an software like Wake on Lan for Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Google for that to download this software.
Furthermore go to device manager -> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab and check here if the WOL is enabled too

  • WRT160Nv3 Wake On Lan Forwarding Issue

    Hello,
I want to set up WOL on my desktop.  Currently I have port 3389 forwarding on my router already to my desktops static IP so I can use remote desktop.  This is seen on canyouseeme.org.
Now I am trying to forwarding the port 7 (UDP) to the same static IP so I can also use Wake On Lan.  canyouseeme.org times out when trying to hit this port.  In actuality I have tried about 10 different port numbers, all with the same result.
I am looking for some trouble shooting steps here, since one port is forwarding fine yet when I want to forward another it doesn't work.
    Relevant Information:
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
    Static IP? Yes
    Router Firmware: v3.0.03
    Thanks for any help,
    -Nick

I'm not 100% sure if WOL is fully supported by the router but you should make sure that you have used DHCP Reservation to set a "static IP" and that your computer's firewall also allows udp port 7.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • Wake On Lan Q190?

    What's the secret?
Went into Device Manage for my NIC.  I have ticked "only allow a magic packet to wake up the computer" on the NIC, and unticked ""allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".  Verified "shutdown wake on lan" is enabled.
    Disabled the wireless adapter.
    I disabled fast start up.
I removed every "wake on lan" allowance in device manager except for human interface/mouse/keyboards and the NIC.
Went into BIOS and made sure the energy saving routing ErP routine is not enabled.
My USB connected wireless Logitech keyboard wakes the computer, but I can't get a magic packet to wake it.
    Ideas?

    Hi bfb1963,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
AFAIK Wake on Lan has to be supported by the MOBO and BIOS should have an option to enable / disable Wake on LAN.
If the BIOS does not have an option for Wake on LAN then most probably it  is not supported.

  • Wake on lan using Artigo A1000

    Hello everyone,
I have an VIA Artigo computer.  I loaded Arch Linux on it and I wanted to use wake on lan.  I followed the instructions on the wiki page for wake on lan, but it would not work correctly when I tried to wake the computer using wol.  It would only work if I had hibernated the computer using the pm-hibernate command.  If I tried to wake it after turning the computer off by either using the halt command or shutdown command it would not respond to the magic packets.  I tried doing some searches for this problem but I couldn't find anyone using Arch Linux with a similar problem.  I broadened the search and found that others had experienced this problem in other distributions using similar hardware.  According to them, the problem was that when the computer was being shutdown it was taking network offline, which would prevent the system from recognizing the magic packet being sent.  Their advice was to prevent the OS from doing that at shutdown.  Unfortunately, their specific solutions didn't seem to apply to Arch Linux, I'm not sure if it has to do with their distros using sysv scripts vs Arch Linux's BSD style scripts or if it was my cluelessness.  I was able to get it to work by editing the /etc/rc.d/network file and commenting out the line that reads /sbin/ifconfig ${1} down >/dev/null 2>&1 in the ifdown() function.  Doing that has resolved my wake on lan problem, now the system will respond to magic packets sent using the wol command after I have shut it down using the shutdown command.  My gut feeling tells me that it might not be the best way to fix this problem, I'm concerned that I might update a package some time in the future and this configuration file may get wiped out.  Is that a valid concern?  Is there perhaps a better way of fixing this problem?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks!

You may not need to leverage ConfigMgr for this.

  • Wake On Lan Issue

I am unable to get Wake On Lan (WOL) to turn on 3 x Lenovo H330 computers in our office when they are turned off (S5 mode). However, I can turn on the computers from standby (S3 mode). We have 2 other Lenovo computers in the office, diffferent models, and I can turn them on from S5 using WOL with no problems.
In the BIOS I can either set Wake On Lan to Disabled or Primary. It is currently set to Primary.
I have made sure that network driver has been configure so that WOL is active. I have also updated the network driver  (Intel).
What else can I do to resolve this issue?

    Anyone?

  • Cisco RV180 and Wake-On-Lan (WOL)

    Hello,
I got a RV180 (firmware version: 1.0.1.9) and I am bit surprised by the lack of the configuration flexibility...
I am trying to use Wake-On-Lan (from internet) to wake up a machine in my home (trying to be green and not keep the machine on all the time, just when i need it).
    The configuration is quite simple:
Work machine ----> (internet) ----> (WAN) RV180 (LAN) ----> Home Machine (off, linux, wol enabled for UNICAST and Magic Packet - flags "ug")
    What i tried so far:
    1. All the following RV180 settings together:
       a. Used Port Forwarding from the WAN IP to the Home Machine IP (UDP port 7 and 9)
           - i had no choice but to put the Home Machine's IP address, since i cannot put the BROADCAST address (xxx.xxx.xxx.255) <- forbidden in the configuration page (i wonder if a new version of firmware allows this)
       b. Used Static DHCP to pair the Home Machine's IP to it's MAC address
       c. Used IP/MAC binding for the Home Machine
    2. All the following RV180 settings together:
       a. Created a PPTP VPN connection
       b. Connected from the Work machine (obtained a LAN IP, can ping the Home Machine if it is on)
       c. Tried to send a broadcast message to LAN (no success !)
    3. I also tried to activate the MULTICAST and BROADCAST WOL flags on the Home Machine but it seems that it receives some messages and the machine wakes up in a very short amount of time after i shut it down (it seems that RV180 sends some messages over LAN by itself).
In all the 3 possibilites above i was not successful in using WOL....
Is there any possibility to use WOL from internet in this configuration ?
Are there new options that will allow WOL from internet in the latest firmware ?
    Any advice is appreciated
    Thank you
    Mircea

    Dear Mircea,
Thank you for reaching the Small Business Support Community.
    I was researching about your concern and found several people with the same inquiry where they were told WoL is not a supported feature on these Small Business Routers and that I think is a correct assumption, however I found the below threat where someone with a similar case scenario as yours were able to make it work, it's on a different RV router but I thought I may be interesting for you to check;

  • How to enable wake on lan on Thinkpad Twist?

I have a Thinkpad Twist purchased because of the presence of the ethernet card.
Unfortunately I can not turn wake on lan.
I did several searches and several attempts without success.
Someone managed to enable wake on lan?
    Thank you.
(sorry for the English by Google Translate)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey there Cello67,
To enable Wake On Lan on a Thinkpad twist:
    1) You will first need to power down your laptop completely.
    2) Then turn it on, as soon as you turn it on start hitting the enter key to interrupt start up. This will take you to a start up menu.
    3) From here you will need to enter your BIOS.
    4) Move right over to the Config, then press enter on the Network Selection
    5) The first option you should have is Wake On Lan. You can change this from disabled to either AC Only or AC and Battery.
After you have done this save your settings, and resume startup. Once the computer has finished booting go to your desktop, and pull out your charm bar by pressing Win Key + C or with a swipe from the right side of your screen in. From here you will:
    1) Enter the Control Panel
    2) Device Manager - > Your Ethernet Card/Adapter
    3) Click the Power Management Tab
    4) Select "Allow this device to wake the computer"
    Hope this helps Cello67!

  • How to Enable Wake On Lan over the Internet??

Hi, I am using RV220W with the latest firmware, I want to make "Wake on LAN" work for my NAS, I found the following description on Internet:
"If you wish to use Wake On Lan over the internet you will need to set up your destination firewall/router to allow "Subnet Directed Broadcasts". Most routers and firewalls disable this option by default.
You will then need to allow traffic through on your firewall/router on a specific port. The choice of ports is up to you."
So how can I enable "Subnet Directed Broadcasts" on RV220W??
    Thanks.
    Raymond

    Hi Jasbryan,
If RV220W doesn't forward UDP to a broadcast address, could you ( i.e. Cisco) provide a tools for sending WOL Magic Packet to the LAN on Router Device Manager page?
I see many routers also provide this tools from their manager page.
    Thanks.
    Raymond
