H57M-ED65 RAID Windows 2008 R2

Hi,
i try to install Windows Server 2008 R2
- 4 2TB Disks as RAID 5
- one Boot Disk IDE
- one DVD-Drive IDE
my problems:
1. BIOS
in "integrated peripherals" is an option "RAID Mode": is this for JMicron or INTEL?
one step down "ON-Chip ATA Devices" one can find also "RAID Mode": is this for JMicron or INTEL?
the manual states "This item is used to select mode for on-chip SATA connectors." for both entries.
2. Install of Windows 2008 R2
DVD boot, Setup starts, copies files, expands files -> Error
Setups tells me that i should ensure that the install files are accessible and i schould try again.
Any ideas?

so both entries are for Intel - what happens if they are not set equal?

Interesting problem with RAID, Windows 2008 server, and Ubuntu

sooooo, i got the system working and linux loved it. just adored it.
however, Windows did not. Windwos 2008 server hard locks from time to time. i fianlly figured out that it had to do with the RAID 0 i was running, that didn't really succeed.
However, when i rebuilt the RAID and everything on it, it refuses to recognize the disk, sayign that windwos cannot determine if this drive has a valid system volume on it.
Ubuntu 9.04 server, however, just took it and made it work great.
I enabled the PCI Bus SATA to be Master in the BIOS, and then Windows Server 2008 said that it could not determine if the drive was bootable. Then i went back and redid the raid, and it did the original error.
I inserted a windows xp disk, destroyed the RAID, and then installed the software on a NEW disk. While it installed fine, it gave me an IRQL_not_less_than_or_equal error. It boots in safe mode, but no where else. I tried installing the NVRAID and MCP55 drivers in safemode and what not, but still, it refused to cooperate. I went back to ubuntu, this time the desktop/workstation versions, and i am doing an alternate install with RAID...much to my disappointment becuase now i will have to use VirtualBox to isntall windows...and if that fails, i'll be really pissed.
My settings are as follows:
SATA Controller 0-5 enabled
NVRAID- enabled
PCI BUS SATA- Option ROM Enabled, Master Enabled, and 0040h latency
MAC LAN- same as above
MAC LAN1- has master disabled, but the other stuff is the same
Serial port A is on AUTO, B is disabled, and floppy is disabled.
Option Rom is PFA relocation.
Also, my AEC A6880 is giving me a ROM expansion error, even though, in both OSes it can be seen....usualy. I just want to fix it
lastly, my LSI PCI-E scsi adapter is not being seen at ALL.

Turn off onboard raid ctrl 1st. There are conflicting.

What's the BSOD error? Are you using XP installation disk with included SP3?

Installing Windows 2008 Server on Intel Raid (MEGAIDE)

I am facing the intolerable issue of trying to install Windows 2008 Server on a machine that has 2 drives configured for mirroring using the Intel RAID settings in the bios. (MEGAIDE)
In Windows 2003 you faced the dubious task of having to do the F6 to install the 3rd party RAID drivers.
In Windwos 2008 Server, you are able to load the drivers on a memory stick and browse the drivers.
I downloaded the drivers for Windows 2003 Server since there are no drivers posted for 2008 from the Intel website.

Windows 2008 server with a Z77A-GD65 m/b?

Hi,
I picked up a Z77A-GD65 last evening assuming I could install Windows 2008 server on it. Upon trying, the install DVD doesn't even see the hard drives.
Any suggestions? Is this m/b not compatible with Win 2008 servers?

Try loading the AHCI drivers just like you would raid drivers.

Sry for my english. Im from germany.
We have a ts130 server with hyper-v windows 2008 r2 sp1 with two windows 2008 r2 sp1 vm's. We have 4 x 4 GB ram. The server run for the last 3 month, after complete new installation, without any problems, then the server crashes every day one time, without any information why. No image on scree, no reaction num key. We must do a hardreset...The onboard raid controller do a completed repair and review till 100% after starting windows and everything is fine. We become two new HDD's and we replace it. The server run 2 weeks and then crash, same problem. after every crash the onboard raid controller do a completed repair and review. Then lenovo replace the mainboard and the power unit with bios update, but the last 2 days, the server crash again one time a day.I dont know what we should do. Can anyone help us?

Hi, I have the same problem as you have.
Currently, I have Centos 6 installed with VirtualBox, but I have had this problem with other Ubuntus and Windows. After a while, sometimes 2 weeks, sometimes 2 hours, the system stop without showing any info on the screen and no reaction on keyboard (Bloq Num) as Cordial said. We have to do a hard reset and there is nothing in the linux logs, it only stops working.
I've try with soft raid, hardware raid, no raid, different HDDs, different OS, virtualization with VBox, KVM, VMWare VSphere, no virtualization, different RAM modules from different brands, a new power supply, changing BIOS options, ... Nothing solve the problem.
The integrated network card even blocked my switch when the server crash, so i start using a PCI one and disabled the integrated in the BIOS. The problem with the switch disapeared, but not the crash. At least other computers on the switch are working.
I've been trying to put this server in production for more than a year, but it's impossible.
Could somebody help with that? I've no idea what to do now.

Restore Windows 2008 server on Dell PowerEdge R710

Try using the life cycle controller to install the OS, its like the Dell version of HP smartstart and allows all prestaging and driver preload for OS deployment.
Alternately it may be down to the fact that the other drives are dynamic drives and will not work with a new boot sector, a quick Diskpart would resolve that issue.

I have a R710 with three hard disks, no raid. I use disk 1 for the OS and data, disk 2 is empty and disk 3 to backup disk 1 using builtin MS windows server backup.
Backup runs fine. Restore does not work. I replace disk 1 with a new disk - The machine is working fine, I just want to try out disaster scenario.put windows 2008 cdrom disk inDell automatically boots from the cdrom as there is no OS in the machineFollow Windows Wizard to restore the OS from backup on disk 3After the restoration is done, the machine reboots and it can't find the OS on the new disk 1What am I missing?

Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64bit) shared folders no longer work with Windows 7 Pro but do work with WindowsXP & Windows 2003

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).

Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.

Windows 2008 Server and Windows 8 clients

I have had this problem for sometime now and really need a solution. I have Windows 2008 Enterprise Server running about 200+ terminal services clients. All Windows XP clients are fine, Windows 7 clients have issues when they get an updated version of
remote desktop client(to solve the issue we simply rollback the update), Windows 8 clients cannot connect and use out remote app. The issue stems from the newer version of remote desktop client (on windows 7 and embedded in windows 8) cannot connect to our
terminal server and generates an error and immediately disconnects. The error says "
Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want
to connect to
So my questions are, how can i update my Windows 2008 Terminal server version to support these clients, or do u have migrate to Windows 2012? Or is there a solution to my current problem which will allow my client to connect and use the remoteapps?

Bit Locker on windows 2008 R2 Virtual machine

Hello there !
We have a a number of Windows 2008 R2 machines and we wish to provide an encryption mechanism for each Virtual machine.
It's a VMware environment and all the VM files go into NFS drives.
Do you think , Bitlocker will help ?
Is Bitlocker supported on Virtual machines ?
In my opinion , Bitlocker is to safeguard against any "physical" threat to a machine.
But I wanted a second opinion here.
Please help me.

Error in installing Oracle client 11g on Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) XenApp 6

I am trying to install "win64_11gR2_client.zip" Oracle 11g Client 64bit on Windows 2008 R2 that has been clamped and restricted by our security department. Details of the clamp:

The Windows 2008 R2 server is running on CITRIX XenApp 6.
When we try to install the client on a normal version of Windows 2008 R2 without the Clamp, the installation follows through and successfully. However, when we try to install the 11g Client on the Clamped Windows 2008 R2, we get the error below:
[INS-08802] Unable to instantiate the View class referred by View ID 'SummaryUI'
This indicates the primary issue is with the clamp. My issue now is knowing what exactly is causing the error. what restrictions should I enable from the clamp in order to get the installation working?

Error connecting to the SAP SRV on Windows 2008 Server platform

We have a problem with one of our clients they bought a new sbs windows server 2008 and we loaded sql 2005 and sap b1 SP01 PL07.
When we did the SBO install we experience connection issues and we created odbc connection on the server using named pipes and tcp/ip (used both server name and Ip address).
We also configured the server in configuration manager and we managed to login and solved the slow system connection issue. We also created odbc connection on the client machines. (Machine are on a workgroup and users have administration access on all machines),we also installed native client on all machines.
After the first batch of client installs we managed to have connection, they were other computers which were left out during the first client install and now the client want to do the remaining machines connected to SBO. On every machine that we install now we get the same error :-

yes we are using Windows 2008 SBS for the SAP EHP4 FOR SAP ERP 6.0/NW7.01 installation.
we tried to create the key but it says access is denied.
Actual thing is we got the server with Windows 2008 server 64 bit SBS (standard FE) with Domain Controller (DC) configuration.
We have removed the DC using dcpromo to convert into Wokgroup and tried the SAP installation.
I hope you got the idea and please let me know any further suggestions or it is the problem with the license.

Windows 2008 R2 is not yet listed in the PAM - and hence not yet supported. The technical prerequisites are met (with a special kernel patch) but not all software is released, so you may get it to run technically but not everything is tested and so, you should not install any SAP system on it!
In fact, and just to provide you further details it is not possible to expect the 710 products released for Windows Server 2008 R2 before around four weeks; 700 products will be released even after 710.
