H67MA-E45 won't boot (new build)

I am putting together a new build for a HTPC. Here is my setup:
MSI H67MA-E45
Intel Celeron G530
4x2gb 13333mhz Patriot G2 series RAM
Seagate Barracuda 500GB (boot)
Seagabte Barracuda 1TB (storage)
BFG 550W PSU
I emailed tech support initially as I could not get a video signal when booting. The I power it up, the CPU fan is on, the 4 APS LEDs are on, but nothing else. I bought a 8400gs locally and tried that, still no dice. After some back and forth I was told: 'The MB can support G530 CPU since E7678IMS.1C0'
This is a brand new mobo, and I was wondering what bios was shipped from the factory. If there is any more info I can give to help identify the bios version, I'll get that ASAP. If the bios is an early version that does not support the G530, what can I do?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Henry. One last question: I live local an MSI Service Center (City of Industry, CA). Do they accept walk-in/drop offs?
That would be excellent if they do.
You are one lucky person! I would certainly ask them. Here is the generic link for contacting them; http://support.msi.com

  • [solved] H67MA-E45 does not boot

    motherboard:H67MA-E45
    cpu: i5-2400
    memory 2x 4gb corsair DDR3 (XMX8GX3M2A1333C9)
    +keyboard + DVI-D display
I've tried booting with everything else disconnected but all I get is those four beeps, ta-taaa-ta-ti. all four leds on a motherboard are also lit. nothing on a display.
result is the same with all four following trials:
    memory A in slot1 and memory B in slot3
    memory B in slot1 and memory A in slot3
    memory A in slot1
    memory B in slot1
if I boot without memories, system get's in to loop where it boots, shuts down and reboots.
this makes me think that memories might be ok as in single memory case they both work same way.
I tried re-mounting CPU but it made no difference.
I tried resetting bios  but it made no difference.
Motherboard, CPU and memories are all new. I am replacing broken stuff (My assumption is that motherboard and it's capacitors caused the failure) so I can not completely exclude power supply being faulty but I don't think this is very likely.
    any ideas?

decided to do one more try before going to sleep...
for some reason, cpu / motherboard did not automatically wake up my display, right after boot I disconnected and reconnected the display cable and now it is up and running.
    so there went my sleep

  • H67MA-35 (B3) No video - new build

This is a new build. Intel i5 2400, Corsair CMV4GX3M2A1333C9 memory.  I've tried this outside the case with nothing else but the monitor connected.  All CPU fan powers up.  I hear two beeps, silence, then two beeps, over and over.  No video output.  I've tried multiple DVI and VGA cables.  Even installed the GeForce 8600 GTS video card from a previous build.  Still no video.
    Any ideas?

Only insert one memory module in the slot closest to the CPU.
Then do a full CMOS clear. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<  Ensure that the power cord is removed from the PSU and also remove the CMOS battery for a while.
    Retest.

  • Keyboard not letting the PC boot, new build

I have recenlty purchased the system as stated below. I have a problem on powering up the system, I have done a lot of trouble shooting and finaly got the problem identified as the keyboard pluged into it.
When there is no keyboard plugged in I can get to the bios screen no problems. when i put the keyboard in (standard 101/102 PS2 IBM, ) the sysem powers up for a few seconds and then shuts down. This keyboard is fine on my other system and is never been used anywhere else. When the shutdown occurs the LED on the frount pannel flashes on and off, even when the power is disconeced form the board, looks like it is discharging the CAPS. unless the light stops flashing it is impossible to reboot.
I have an older keyboard one of the micro compact ones that comes with the bigger connection. I have an adaptor to bring it down to the PS2 standard. This works fine on the system and i have now reset the bios to the defaults and saved it. Before that i had cleared the bios.
I find it very stange that a certain type of keyboard can do this,,  is there any solution to this. is my power supply at fault here. I have everything disconected from the board bar the graphics card and RAM.
There is a question that has troubled my mind on this build. as i have gone for a rev2 PWS and it does not have a -5v supply. The pin out on the MB has a -5v, does the MB require this???

    You are not alone.
PS2 keyboard/mouse causes random shutdowns or doesnt work
There is nothing wrong with your keyboard, rather a hardware compatibility problem with the motherboard.
I solved it by going over to USB and never had a problem since. Not a nice solution but its not worth my time unassembling the system, then waiting 2 months without a system for an RMA to go through.
Feel free to report it to the support channels, I was told that its not a problem - had a feeling that was a standard answer though

  • 2010 MacBook won't boot new DiskWarrior

Just got the latest DiskWarrior (mainly to help maintain my MacBook purchased last May). Only - Two attempts to boot the DW disk resulted in the "Restart..." message after a long delay.
I have put in the original Software Restore disk and. - after a full 15 minutes - the "rotating gear" is still spinning (like it did when trying to boot from DW's disk).
Anyone got any suggestion as to how I'm supposed to "fix" this $1000 piece of junk?
Basic MacBook from Apple Store, 10.6

Updating after 1 hour: Ended up having to Boot + mouse click to eject the Software Restore Disk so I never got to use Disk Utility for repairs either.
Now get this: while booting into Safe Mode (another attempt to DO SOMETHING USEFUL), the electrical power started flickering -causing the MacBook to restart in normal mode.
So now, I've disconnected the MacBook from our (pathetic) electric supply and restarted in Safe Mode.
I've finished that and launched Onyx: running Onyx. I'll see if that at least corrects the problem with starting with Software Restore disk.

  • H67MA-E45(B3) won't boot, no beeps. BIOS?

It won't boot. The power LED comes on and fans spin, but I get no monitor activity and no beeps.
I'm theorizing this is BIOS related. My BIOS sticker says E7678 IMS170. I'm using a Core i3-2100 3.1GHz. The website says I need 7678v17.zip. Do I have this already? I can't make the connection between the BIOS sticker and the 7678v17 file.
I actually have two MB's, and two CPU's, and two sets of ram and a different power supply. No combination of MB, RAM, CPU, power supply, works. I went down to 1 stick of ram, no video card, and no peripherals. To my thinking it HAS to be the BIOS at this point.
    Thoughts?

Yeah, I've got the 4pin plugged in.

  • New Build 770-G45 won't post

    Hi,
I doing a new build for a friend, I've built 4 systems to date but haven't had much trouble so I don't have much experience trouble shooting.
This is the issue so far, if I clear the CMOS when I boot up everything seems fine, the bios posts, I can enter setup, and everything seems to be recognized.
Once I save and re-boot I get the splash screen followed by a blinking cursor on a blank screen, in other words the bios won't post.
I'm wondering if I have a problem with my memory (see specs below), I've noticed the mainboard recognizes it as 1333, I read the sticky on memory, but I'm still not sure what to do here.
    Thanks

Looks like I should have researched this RAM more carefully, it looks like it only works for AMD 785 series and higher.
    Do you guys agree?

  • New FX5900XT in Asus A7N8X mobo won't boot.

Got a new MSI FX5900XT card yesterday, popped it into my PC this morning and it won't boot or even post at all.  No error beeps, nothing on the screen.  The monitor does "wake up," so it's sensing a signal of some kind, apparently.  I've seated and re-seated the card, booted repeatedly, and made sure the 12v power connector is securely plugged in.  I've been building my own PCs for about 12 years, and I've never had a video card just...do nothing.  My relevant system specs are:
    Asus A7N8X (non-Deluxe) mobo rev 1.04 w/latest v1007 BIOS
AMD Athlon XP2700+ CPU (not overclocked)
    Corsair XMS PC2700C2 333Mhz RAM (1 stick, 512 megs)

    Panasonic LF-D321 DVD burner
    LiteOn LTR-32123S CD burner
    nVidia nForce audio (onboard mobo)
    ViewSonic G790 monitor
WinXP Home w/SP1 and all updates
    Enermax EG465P-VE power supply (431w):
    +3.3v @ 38a

    +12v @ 20a
    -5v @ 2a
    -12v @ 1a
    +5Vsb @ 2.2a
I've Googled the Web and searched here and haven't found a solution, though I did see messages from a couple of other users with similar problems.  The Ti4200 card works fine, and I've tried the FX5900XT card in another computer with the same results.  Any suggestions, other than the obvious (DOA & RMA)?
    Thanks,

Probably, but it's a 2nd PC with the same type motherboard, an Asus A7N8X.  I was hoping someone with this same mobo could tell me that his card worked with that setup.  I have a 3rd computer in the closet with an ECS K7S5A mobo, but I'm not inclined to drag it out.  In any case, I've already gotten an RMA from New Egg, and I'm sending the card back tomorrow.  It's not a piston engine, after all; it's only got one moving part, and the fan is spinning away just fine, and I've pretty much exhausted all the trouble-shooting possibilities, so the card must just be defective somehow.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • H67MA-E45 hangs on reboot at boot code 92

I just built a new PC based on an H67MA-E45 board.  It boots and works fine when power cycled, but fails to reboot, hanging at boot code 92 before even getting to the BIOS screen.  Is there a list of boot codes somewhere? (the number in the lower right of the screen during POST).  When booting from power off, the last part of the sequence is
    B4 - 99 - one last beep - 92 - A2 - A3 - BIOS screen - windows
When rebooting, it gets to 92, but hangs there.
My board has BIOS 1.8.  There are newer version, but they don't specifically address this issue and I've read some reports of other problems in newer BIOS versions.  Any idea what's going on here or advice how to get this fixed?  It's not a show-stopper, but it is pretty annoying.

    USB 1TB external disk
    USB RS-232 port
    USB headset

    Kcriqui,
Was your problem solved? I would be interested to know how.
I have exactly the same problem. When booting up my system (HTPC use), the bios hangs with 92 in the bottom right of the screen.
I have read that it could be linked to USB drives that are connected to the motherboard. I have the following configuration:
    MB: H67MA-E45
    CPU: i3-2100
    GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6670
    RAM: DDR3-1333 Geil 8GB
    HDD: SSD Intel X25-M G2 80GB (system)
HDD: Samsung F1 Spinpoint 500GB (storage)
    PSU: Antec EarthWatts 430W
OS: Windows 7 x64 Home Premium
Case: Antec Fusion Remote Black with LCD Display connected to MB via internal USB
This last point is important because this seems to be the cause of the bios freeze at '92' code. When disconnected, the PC just boots fine whereas, if connected, the PC freezes at boot. However, to make it more difficult, this does not happen all the time. When boot freezes, I have to switch off the PC and even switch off the PSU. Then, the PC boots up most of the time.
On the opposite, PC cannot be restarted when windows has started.
After PC boots up fine with LCD disconnected and then LCD is reconnected, the LCD starts up and PC works fine. This proves that LCD display is not broken and works fine.
I cleared the BIOS, but without any success. Problem still occurs.
I have also deactivated any USB boot option so that the PC can only boot onto the SSD.
Could someone help me on this? Did I miss something?
    Thanks already for your input.

  • .itl file is locked error after installing new build - iTunes won't open

After upgrading to the new build itunes won't open. I receive an error message "The iTunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file." When I check permissions I have full control. I tried uninstalling all apple components - iTunes, Quicktime, apple updater - rebooting and then reinstalling but the same error message comes up when I try to start itunes.

Even after uninstalling the .itl file remained in my itunes music folder. I deleted this file after uninstalling again and then reinstalled and the issue was resolved.

  • New hard drive won't boot!

I have an iBook, and the hard drive recently broke. First I installed os x on my external firewire hard drive, but the iBook wouldn't boot off of it (it's a maxtor onetouch drive). I got another hard drive, and using the installer (for panther), I formatted the drive, and installed os x on it. However, the iBook won't boot off of the drive. What is wrong? Is it more serious than just the hard drive?

Well I just tried to boot off of the external hard drive (which is a Maxtor Onetouch firewire drive), while I didn't have an operational hard drive. However now that the replacement drive doesn't work as well (which I am more concerned about), I am wondering whether it is a more serious issue, or not. When I took it apart, I didn't see a logic board connector as in http://www.sterpin.net/uk/ddibookg4uk.htm (picture 43). It boots the installation cd fine, so I assume that there is not a problem with the logic board? The drive I purchased was completely empty, and I am wondering whether the boot part of the partition is wrong?
In disk utilities (in the installer), it does not see the new internal drive. I have tried to start up holding the option key, but it only has a screen with two buttons, and that ticking clock as a cursor.

  • New SCSI Hard Drive Won't Boot

    Hello,
I have a problem. My original SCSI drive died on me and I took it out and converted over to only ATA drives. Ever since I did that, my computer has always been a bit lagging. Slow. Not too fast. Anyway, I bought another SCSI drive and I'm trying to use that as my boot drive. I used Carbon Copy Cloner and checked "make bootable" in the preferences, but for some reason my computer just won't boot from it. I've formatted it and it shows up on my desktop, but it won't boot. Start. Make OS go boom boom. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks in advance.

First of all, thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.
A couple of things. I check my system profiler and I couldn't find out what kind of SCSI card I have. I even opened up my machine and there wasn't any writing on it. So how do I find out what type of card I have? My other question is if the same card worked for the SCSI drive I had before, why won't it work on the new drive. I've set it as the master at the end of the SCSI cord and like I said I used CCC. The drive shows up on my desktop but won't boot. Should I try loading OS from disks instead of using CCC?

  • New HDD installed in PowerBook G3, won't boot from installation disk.

I just installed a new hard drive in my G3 Wallstreet and I can't get it to boot from the original Apple CD.
I've tried holding the C key as well as +⌥+⇧+⌫, but to no avail.
The CD tests fine in my old iMac G4, so maybe the culprit is the optical drive, but then again, I'm not so sure.
Is there a way to either boot my PowerBook or install OSX from my iMac G4?
Message was edited by: rick268 Also, I can boot into Open Firmware just fine.

    Thanks for your help.
WeLoveMacs wanted $50, but I just scored an entire topcase on eBay for $15, shipped. We'll see what happens.

In the years of keeping the old soldiers almost relavent, I ran into a "won't boot from a system disk" issue on two of them. In both cases, replacing a dead PRAM battery fixed the issue. Don't ask me why but that was the only thing that fixed them.
When I was supporting those, you could still get new Wallstreet batteries from Other World Computing. Today they no longer show them. I'm not sure where to steer your for a new one. USed batteries are like used chewing gum, IMHO.
You can try disconecting the wire from the PRAM battery to the logic board. That might help. Requires some take-down:

  • New to Mac - how to re-install when G4 won't boot from CD

    Hi all
I am completely new to Mac, so bear with me here. I recently bought three G4's from my employer (they took over some old offices of a company that went bust and left all their equipment, which has been lying around for some years now). Wow, for a PC-guy like me it is quite a switch
Anyways, I managed to get one of the running and re-install with new OS (Panther) as I have the original discs.
However, one of them is causing me some problems. It is running OS X Server and has been setup with password - so when I boot up I get prompted to log on and can't get any further. It read a few places that it should be possible to boot from the install discs and then re-set the passwords. I tried holding down C when booting, but the machine won't boot from the CD. Tried holding C before powering on, before the chime, after the chime, when the logo displays, etc. Nothing helps. The key on the keyboard is working (tried it in the user-name box when I get prompted to log on)
I don't care about the conents of the drives - just want to re-install. But how to do that when the C-key isn't working to get it to boot from CD? Guess one of my problems could be that I don't have Mac keyboard and have to plug a Windows-keyboard into it. Also tried pressing the ALT key at boot up, but that does nothing either.
    Help?

It is a server yes. But it doesn't matter though about the lock.
Here's what happened so far which also solved my problem:
    - Moved around on the RAM sticks and then managed to boot into OF
    - Reset security-mode as described in various forums and guides
    - Still couldn't boot from CD - even after resetting PRAM and NVRAM.
    - So I searched the net (sorry to my boss for not doing much work today) and when I came home I was armed with many useful hints to do the dance with the machine.
... but just before we stepped onto the dance floor, I noticed a post-it taped to the side of one of the OTHER machines (I bought three from my employer's storage sale and all three from the same company whose offices they took over). And on that post it was two words one of which was Administrator. It turned out that the other one was the password. Dough. So much ado about nothing. But, at least I learned a lot about the Mac-world along the way.
However, when I pop the CD in I cannot see it when I logged on - faulty device? in "ABout this Mac" is shows the DVD-drive just fine. Is it concivable that someone could have disabled it some way? If so, how do I enable it again?
Thanks everybody for all your patience with me

  • Even with a new hard drive and fresh install, it won't boot

Here's my story. On Wednesday last week, we had a power outage. (Yes, I had a surge protector. It didn't matter.) The next morning, when I turned my iMac on, it wouldn't boot. It got to the startup icon, but it just spun forever. I restarted and ran fsck, and it gave me a bunch of invalid sibling link errors. I used my Mac Mini to look at the hard drive in Target Disk mode and got the same result. I also tried using Disk Warrior, which hung a couple times before rebuilding the directory, but that didn't help. I took the iMac into the Apple Store, where a Genius checked it out, reset the PRAM, and then got a kernel panic. He told me I'd have to "erase and install," which I did (I had most of my important stuff backed up, but still lost some data, unfortunately.) I rebooted with the Apple install CD and reinstalled the OS. Then I rebooted into the clean install. The machine was extremely slow and took forever to get to the desktop. Then it hung with the spinning beach ball when I tried opening the Applications folder. A couple more pokes around the desktop eventually produced another kernel panic.
Yesterday, we got the hard drive replaced. I just finished reinstallation the OS, and guess what? It still won't boot. I get the Apple icon after the start up chime, then we get a blue screen that's quickly replaced with a gray screen. Then a black screen, then a gray screen again. This repeats forever with an occasional spinning beach ball until I restart.
I should note that I can boot into single-user mode and run fsck, and it reports no problems. I'm running DiskWarrior now for lack of any other ideas, and while it booted into the CD, it took forever to do so. I'm completely out of ideas, so other than throwing this machine in the trash and buying a new one, is there anything else I can try to diagnose the problem? Please note I was able to boot into a CD and reinstall the OS twice so far, so it still seems to be functioning to some extent.
    Any ideas?

Did you format the new drive, if not it has to be formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) before the OS can be installed. Here is a simple how-to guide:
