i recently bought the h77ma-g43 mainboard which has both the pci x16 v2.0 and 3.0 slots, i was wondering which one to use for my nvidia gtx 580 which is a v2.0 card. please reply soon...thanx

Normally, it is the PCI-E 16X33 slot closest to the CPU.

  • Non Graphic card in 760GM-E51 PCIe x16 Slot

Why can't I use the on board graphics and attach a PCIe x2 or x4 SATA controller in the PCIe x16 slot?  Any non graphic board is simply ignored.

That did it! Apparently, the bridge chip changes it between x16/x1 and x8/x8. Once I switched it to x8/x8 (SLI mode), the Asus card was recognized.
    Thanks!
Almost, it changes the slots from x16/x0 to x8/x8
Nice to hear you got it sorted out

  • Z97 gaming 5 motherboard-2nd PCI x16 slot wired at x8?

    Hi,
I connected my gtx980 on my 2nd PCI x16 slot and GPU-Z reads as x8.However,when I connected it back to the 1st slot,it reads as x16.Would like to confirm if that's the supposed outcome or is there any BIOS configuration that I can change?
    Thanks

Yes the second x16 sized slot is only wired for x8 operation. the only way a board like that could have 2 full x16 slots is if it has PLX chips but they are very costly and only get used on stuff like a X-Power model board!
so its behaving normally on yours as that is how its setup!

  • TS140 LSI 9300-4i4e not seen in PCIe x16 (slot #1) however works in x4 (slot #3)

I have some TS140s (70A4001LUX 5U with i3-1225 v3 processor) that have tried installing a couple of different LSI 9300-4i43 12Gbps adapters that are not recognized when inserted into the PCIe x16 (e.g. slot #1).
However those cards are recognoized when inserted into the x4 slow (e.g. slot #3). Have tried various LSI 9300-4i4e (cards have most recent fw and bios) in a couple of different TS140s and see the same results. Have verified other cards working ok in the x16 slot.
In the process of updating TS140 BIOS to most recent late fall 2014 version to see if that magicly clears things up.
Has anybody else seen this and know of a resolution other than dont use the LSI 9300 in slot #1?

@I_am_Nivek thks for the info and ideas, I should have mentioned that the onboard RAID on the TS140 was not being used, in the BIOS/Setup, the ATA mode is set to AHCI (other options are IDE or RAID). Also as an FYI/FWIW, on the TS140 or at least the version that I have, the RAID/IDE/ATA is accessed via the "Devices" tab and then under the ATA section. I do recall seeing the "SCU" mode on a different Lenovo system that I have used, might have been a TD340 iirc.
However with the RAID disabled (as it had been), the adapter card still does not appear.
Regarding the boot mode, good idea, I had the TS140 in CSM which enabled both UEFI and BIOS, tried changing it to disable CSM which only allows UEFI mode. However that did not work either.
Is there a different BIOS as well as different motherboard firmware version available vs. what I am using (see above)?

  • Hp p400 pci-x8 running in pci-x16 slot

My thanks in advance for any help I may receive.
I am currently experiencing a "device not found error"  whilst trying to use an HP p400 array sas pci-x8 adapter in a pci-16 slot.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte H81M-S2PV,
    8 gigabytes of RAM,
    650 Watt power supply and
    award modular bios 6.00g and
    intel i3 chip
HP P400 with 512 cache and battery
I only have access to the slots mentioned.  I have tested the adapter in three other machines which have the same exapnsion slot arrangements.
Please clarify if the pci-x8 card should function in the pc-x16 slot? I am trying to assertain if my adapter is faulty.
    Many thanks

    Thanks for your input PlumCrumble.
I was silently sure the card should work but felt it would not hurt to get another opinion.  This reply is accepted as a solution for the first question.
If I may be bold can I ask if you have any suggestions on my current scenario: When starting the PC,  the screen is black for almost six minutes no messages or indications as to what is happening - then after the period of six minutes or more the PC continues to the normal boot functions; post, loads Windows etc.  The HP ORCA and other utilities reports device not present. However the Widnows device manager indicates a device with driver error.
In my humble thinking I believe a device is detected but the firmware or required software is missing,  After trying the Proliant repair and installation boot disk, I am little lost as to what software is required to intialise the the device and set the correct IRQ at the BIOS level of the process.
Is there software and firmware utility available for the HP P400 at the DOS level that I need to be aware of - I am a novice with this particular HP device and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Linux system also reports the same results.

  • MSI K9AGM2-FIH: PCIe x1 card in PCIe x16 slot

Am trying to get a PCIe x1 2-Port Sil3132 SATA Controller to work in a x16 slot
system boots without any problems, the card is found, and it shows up when booting
but here is the problem, windows wont boot, when i remove the card from the x16 slot it boots fine
windows is run via the onboard sb600
x1, x4, x8 cards should work in a x16 slot just fine, after with i have heard

Question, why do you want to use that card?
Also, it might be possible that drive-letters change in Windows, so it can't boot anymore.
Try booting with the Windows Boot-cdrom, load the Sil driver and see what letters you get.
You might need to change the boot.ini

  • P35 PCIe X16 slot

I read that the 2 PCI e video slots will sense which one has a card, and set that one to X16. Is this the case? The reason I ask is my GeForce 9600 (only 1 slot wide) will not seat in the white slot due to interference from the Southbrdge pipe. I had to move it to the yellow slot.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Thanks...removing the cover gave me just enough space to get the card working although I doubt it's seated all the way. I may have to bend back a few of the cooler fins to make a proper fit.
    Thanks again,

I know the network socket 1 needs to active for the PCIe x1 slot to work.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • IdeaCenter K410 - PCIe x16 question

In the image w/ my post, I have this question:
Is this (PCIe x16 slot) a "lever" that opens to insert a video card?  (see image w/ part circled in white)
I tried to pull it and it doesn't seem to open.  I thought you weren't supposed to insert any "cards" or Memory (RAM) on an angle.  Isn't that so?  It seems that would be the only way to put in the video card that I have for the PCIe x16 slot.
I know the part of the video card that goes under this area on the PCIe slot but "DOES IT MOVE" to allow installation?
    Thanks for your help.
    Erik
"This is NOT my motherboard" I'm just using as a reference.  The PCIe x16 slot seems to be exactly the same.

    Hi Erik,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.
Base from what you've described and after checking you link, I would suggest you to insert the graphics card in an upwardly position. However when imserting the card tilt the card so that the smaller teeth of the card gets postion first and them firmly placing the rest of the card into potion untill the back bracket (the one circled in your pricture) locks into place. It should fit nicely. If by any chance that the postion is obstructed by the bracket, press down on the bracket so that you can firmly postion the card and locking it into place.
    Hope this helps.
Do let me know should you require further clarification.

  • Eclipse SLI and booting with VGA on 2nd x16 PCI-Ex slot

Is it possible? It is simple operation and -probably- I could find out myself but I prefer to ask instead toying with add-on cards just to test theory.
I have plans to buy Intel's SRCSASBB8I RAID Controller [http://www.intel.com/Products/Server/RAID-controllers/SRCSASBB8I/SRCSASBB8I-overview.htm] or something similar from 3Ware/LSI. I want to create some proper hardware RAID 5/50 because software RAID 5 from x58 is total overkill and completely pointless. Built-in JMB chips are fine, but only for RAID1 operations. Because RAID card is PCI-Ex 8x (and 3Ware/LSI too) to reduce chaos inside I planning to put it in the first PCI-Ex x16 slot. Because of that, my initial question stands. Will PC boot if VGA card is not inserted into first x16 PCI-Ex slot? Even better, maybe you tested such controller inside company?
If yes (booting) then great, if not then why not? Do I need some specific BIOS or is it hardware (chipset) limitation?
    Thanks in advance.

OK, I just turned off PC for 30 - very valuable  - minutes instead bogging support about something so trivial.
And in short... IT WORKS! Sort of.
But not everything is so rosy. While switch to 2nd x16 PCI-Ex slot resulted with some surprisingly positive results it also resulted with something bad.
Well as most people running with only 1 VGA and 1 or 2 HDDs and 1 or 2 optical drives first is the good news:
+ Temperature drop on the North Bridge was tremendous. ~10C during stress (drop from 58C to 49C with i7 920 clocked at 3.3 GHz and Thermaltake Extreme Spirit 2 cooler on NB). Probably because VGA blocked some of hot air which now was freely blown away.
    Bad news are:
    - Blue SATA ports are half accessible. Port 7&8 is OK, because it is on the edge of the VGA board, but ports 9&10 are complete no go. If you have something connected there it will work*, but to disconnect SATA device from Motherboard you need to remove VGA. There is no other way around. In two words: it sucks. If you have a lot of HDDs.
    - 2nd bad news is that such combination (VGA on 2nd slot) works only for less powerful (or older) cards. My 8800 GTS640 slot-in quite well, but with bigger cards (more than 26 cm - 10.1") it is also complete no go. GTX 2xx/4xx/Radeon 5870/5970 forget it. Big card will cover ports 9&10 and thus rendering them completely useless.
    * - assuming you using VGA smaller or equal 26 cm/10.1" - does not apply to cards with 1 slot cooling
I hope it helps, and someone else will benefit from that. Meanwhile I need to look for some external RAID 5 HDD enclosure without NAS. Why all manufacturers are so obsessed with it?
BTW: Jack my SB (included with Eclipse) still does not record audio even if I tested it on few clean Win installations (32/64). But in all honestly I completely forgot about it because testing was conducted long time ago. PCI SB rules.... just like Asus Xonar on PCI-Ex.

  • P7N Diamond, whcih PCIe slot to use for SLI?

I would like to use both PCIe x1 slots, which means slots PCIe2 and PCIe3.
But if is insert the bouble width 8800GTS card in PCIe1, which is the first PCIe 2 x16, then I will cover the first PCIe x1 slot.
Anybody have any experience in using the PCI e 2 x16 slot called PCIe4? and then used the PCIe5 as the SLI card slot?
    Thanks Michael

I have personally found a full 5% increase in sli performance by using blue/blue rather than one blue and one white. I don't know if it's just me or if this difference is universal.
    I second that...
my advice : put both of your graphic cards in 16x blue slots, your X-Fi in the free PCI-e 1x slot you should see between your graphic cards, and put your TV Tuner in the yellow slot. everything should be working ine that way

  • MSI Z77A-GD65 1st PCI-E x16 slot is unusable

Today I spent some time assembling my new system based on the Z77A-GD65.  It's a bummer but I think I have to RMA the mainboard.  My graphics card (MSI Twin Frozr II GTX 570) isn't recognized in the 1st PCI-E x16 slot (where it should be installed), but it does work in the second PCI-E x16 slot.  I've moved it back and forth a few times, and testing results are consistent.  When installed in the 1st x16 slot, the graphics card's two fans are running, but the card is "MIA".  What a poopy upgrade experience.
I'm thinking I may just buy another GD65 (assuming most of them have working PCI-E slots & I was just unlucky), sell the 1st one on eBay after RMA is complete, and just take the (relatively minor) financial loss.  I don't want extended downtime.
Any suggestions before I ship this board away on Monday?
    Thanks.

I was aware of that possibility but was discounting it.  I just spent some time pulling out the board to have a good look at the CPU socket (with a magnifying glass and everything).  I did see one pin that was slightly off, and I very carefully tipped it back into place.  An out-of-place pin sticks out pretty clearly which is helpful.  After reassembly, unfortunately the first PCI-E x16 slot is still unusable.  It was a good suggestion (probably my only hope to avoid RMA), but sadly I think I can't make this board work properly.  RMA seems inevitable at this point :(
    Thanks for your replies though.

  • A55M-P33 and support for non-graphics cards in PCI-e x16 slot.

Does this motherboard support using an LSI raid card in the x16 slot, or does it only support graphics cards?  I am building an Unraid box and would like to use the slot for an x4 or x8 raid adapter in IT mode.
    Thanks Matt

Well wait around and see if anyone else post's but if you do a quick search of pcie raid controller you will find varying results. All the results I found were with Intel boards though so all I can say is no guarantees.
This is Msi's official response for raid cards:
    Quote
PCI-Ex4 RAID cards are designed and tested to work with Server/Workstation mainboards. Therefore MSI does not test server/workstation products with our desktop mainboards.
Please contact the PCI-Ex4 RAID card supplier for compatibility.
You can try to contact msi, but I assume they will tell you this.
    >>How to contact MSI.<<
I have also heard some no so hot things about LSI service, I can however vouch for Adaptec's service, so you might want to contact both and see if they have tested and combinations.
