H8-1010cs black screen at PC start

HP h8-1010cs, Win7/HP64
Hi there, could you send me some advice, pls ???
When I start comp (by HW button), there apperars only short flash of the start screen and after this only blank screen. Boot and loading Windows goes on, I can log in too, but only after audio - video is still blank.
It appears if comp is off one hour or longer. When I let PC on (without video) cca 15 minutes or longer, put it off (hard- by button), and  start it standard way (push button again), video goes OK and PC runs without problems.

I understand you are still experiancing the issue. This seems to be your graphics card.
Here is a link to NVIDIA to detect your graphics card. I would suggest uninstalling the one you have in your device manager first for the best results, then restart the computer before installing.

Hope this is helpful.

Not running Leopard (Panther), but I have a similar problem on my 24" iMac. Computer was working fine last night (I shut it down) and when I went to boot up this morning the computer is stuck on a black screen.
The boot up sound is initiated but nothing after that. The power light stays at full brightness, if I touch the power button the light blinks and then after a while it goes out. A full reset does nothing. I've tried reseting my PRAM, which works because I hear the start up sound twice, but no change to the black screen.
I don't have access to another Mac, would inserting the Startup Disc I received with the computer do anything?

  • Black screen and "IOBluetoothHCIContrller::start Idle Timer Stopped"

When I turn on my macbook pro, 2007, intel, mac osx 10.4.1, all I see is a Black screen and "IOBluetoothHCIContrller::start Idle Timer Stopped".  I have tried resetting PRAM, SMC, turning on with R-command, S-Command, V- control, and I can not get passed this screen.  DOes anyone have any idea of how to fix this?

I also reset the System Management Controller:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
...and tried booting diagnostics (D Key), both also to no avail.

  • Satellite A305-S6898 - half black screen on the start-up

I purchased this laptop back in the beginning of March and had to return it to store due to an issue at start-up when half the screen would turn black on the Windows log in screen. They ordered me a new one that I received about 3 weeks ago and I used it for about a week before I got the same issue of half black screen with the start-up.
Now it has been running really slow and about an hour ago I had it freeze up on me and my entire screen turn into a bunch of colorful lines.
I had to restart into safe-mode and run a virus scan just to make sure that wasn't my problem.
I don't download anything on this computer other than the basic messengers and photo editing programs.
I have an HP MP7170N desktop which i use to download everything that seems to run quicker than the laptop and I use photo programs, downloads torrents and store most of my music and photos on that one and it only has 1GB of memory compared to this ones 4GB.
    What is the deal?
Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do.
I can't really return it to the store because they only give a 14-day grace period for returns.

Looks not good for me it sounds a little bit like graphic issue.
Before you would contact a professional Toshiba authorized service provider it would be interesting to know if you would notice some improvements after recovery procedure and BIOS update.
I believe you didnt get an recovery disk because you can create it using the preinstalled Toshiba software check your user manual how to create recovery disk
So after new installation check the notebook usability and if similar issues still persists.
If nothing will be changed its strongly recommended to contact an ASP

  • Black screen G3 at start up

M=When I start up my g3 I get a grey screen with the apple, the next screen is a black one with
    /etc/master.password: Input/output error
    -sh: /etc/profile: Input/output error
    -sh-2.05b#
in the upper left corner. If I type in anything it says command not found. I get this screen when I start it up with any combination of keys being held down. Only target mode gets a different result. The problem with it being in target mode is that I have no other computer to firewire it to.I can still hear the hard drive spinning away when this is happening.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Tom

I've been thru three hard drives in the last 12 -18 months. Am I damaging the computer or the drives when I replace them?
You are probably discarding perfectly good drives. "Crazy software" can clobber things and keep your Mac from starting up. But that does not mean the drive has died. Blocks can occasionally go bad, but that does not mean the drive has died. Replacing the drive always fixes the problem, but that does not mean the old drive was trash.
    Damaged Data:
The first line of defense is always to run a program like Disk Utility or start up in safe mode (which runs fsck -fy ) in an attempt to repair directory errors. Not all Directory errors are simple, and not all errors are Directory errors. If errors persist you may need a more Industrial-Strength utility, or you may need to re-write the data that got clobbered by re-installing or re-creating the damaged data.
Damage on the drive, that shows up as "Bad Blocks" or "Initialization Failed"
Bad Blocks on a hard drive with many billions of bytes:
    • are something to be expected, but are fairly rare.
    • can occur in two types, repairable and permanent
    • can often be made perfectly good again, but it takes some work.
    Bad Blocks, but "temporary":
There are some very unusual conditions that can cause a drive to write a block that has an error in it. Powering off while the drive is actively writing is the most obvious culprit. If you re-write the block, it may be perfectly good, and may never have a problem again.
    "Permanent" Bad Blocks:
For many decades, the problem of producing an absolutely perfect disk has been solved by drive manufacturers by reserving a few blocks in various neighborhoods on the drive to be used as "spares". These blocks are not user-accessible, but can be brought into service by firmware in the drive by block substitution or "sparing". If you ask the drive in the right way, it will remove a Bad Block from daily use, put it on its own internal "Bad Blocks list", and and permanently substitute a spare block from its pool of blocks held in reserve for just this purpose.
The way to remove all Bad Blocks from a drive is to Initialize the drive with the "Write Zeroes" or "Zero All Data" option (sometimes on the "security options" tab. (Note: Initializing will erase all information from the drive.) This process takes many hours to complete.
If the Zeroing completes without error, your drive now has 100 percent good blocks, and is ready to serve you once more. Apple Utilities give up after 10 block substitutions and declare "Initialization Failed", and that may be all you need to know. If you like, you can run the procedure again, and it may make more substitutions, but there is a limit to how much you should trust a drive like this, and it sometimes fails because there are no more spare blocks nearby the Bad Block.
    Executive Summary:
Replacing the drive ALWAYS fixes the problem.
This does not mean the old drive is bad unless you run diagnostic and repair utilities that declare that the old drive is bad.

  • Black Screen on Enlightenment Start

    Thanks for your time.
Just as the title says, I run xinit, then from the terminal which displays correctly, I try to run "enlightenment_start" and the system just gives me a black screen, I can't seem to switch console sessions, and I have to reboot.
    Any insights?
EDIT: Black screen comes back after about 10 minutes and lets everything work fine...

I've update the e17 libs to 1.7.7 and enlightenment17 to 0.17.3 today (edit: in the official repos)
As for the logs, check the options of enlightenment_start:
    $ enlightenment_start --help
    Options:
    -valgrind[=MODE]
Run enlightenment from inside valgrind, mode is OR of:
1 = plain valgrind to catch crashes (default)
2 = trace children (thumbnailer, efm slaves, ...)
    4 = check leak
8 = show reachable after processes finish.
    all = all of above
    -massif
Run enlightenment from inside massif valgrind tool.
    -callgrind
Run enlightenment from inside callgrind valgrind tool.
    -valgrind-log-file=<FILENAME>
Save valgrind log to file, see valgrind's --log-file for details.

  • Satellite A300-Y00 black screen but fan starting

I bought a TOSHIBA satellite A300/Y00 in June 2008, i.e. 16 months ago. Model number PSAGOA-02Y. After ten months it suddenly did not boot. It sounds like the CPU and the fan is starting but the screen and the led below the screen were all black. I tried to connect it to an external monitor but that screen was black too. I gave it to Toshiba for 2 weeks (!) who said it was the motherboard. They replaced it for free as it was still under warranty.
A few weeks ago the same thing happened again. I turned it off and for some random reason it started as usual a few hours later. I called Toshiba to say that I think the computer will crash soon again. They said they could take it in for service but if they could not find anything wrong with it they would charge me x dollars. I did not give it in for service. I even went to a local Toshiba support guy who said he could not find anything wrong with my computer and that there was nothing he could do.
Now the same thing is happening again. This time I can't get it to start again. Of course their fantastic 3 months warranty for the last motherboard has expired. I tried to take out the battery and start it only on power but it does not help.
I don't want to pay $500 for a new motherboard and then have it breaking down again. It is obvious it is a hardware problem and I think Toshiba should replace my computer without charges.
Anyone with similar problems? Any advice? Getting pretty annoyed....

    Hello!
Have you already contacted the authorized service provider again? If not, do it please! You should speak with the technicians again and then you will see what they can do for you.
I can understand you that this is annoyed but such things can happen and I think the ASP will do the best to help you. To be honest I have good experience with my ASP. The repair goes very fast and the technicians are very friendly and competent. Its always nice to talk with them a little bit.
Im not a technician but maybe they can repair it as a gesture of goodwill or you have only to pay the mainboard and not the exchange

  • Satellite A100: Black screen until windows starts

    Hello everybody,
my screen shows nothing until windows XP starts. No toshiba start-screen, no boot menue. The rest runs problemfree, no errors. I would like to have the normal boot with: "press del to enter setup" etc.
    Thanks for helping

    Hi
Something like press del to enter setup will not appear because usually at the beginning only the Toshiba splash screen should appear.
If you want to enter the BIOS you have to press the F2. By pressing the DEL you will not enter the BIOS. Its a notebook and not a desktop PC, buddy ;)
What you can do is to disable the Quiet Boot in the BIOS. Then diagnostic enabled and summary screen is displayed.

  • Black screen on system start, before boot.

This machine had a noisy cooling fan for some time, then the screen suddenly went black but could see very dimmed images on it when using a flashlight.
Now the fan is quiet, but working and cooling, however the screen is entirely black after power up, the ESC to enter menu appears in orange color, then nothing at all. When pressing escape, it also goes entirely black. Can see the hard drive light flashing and have removed the drive to check it externally. The drive is fine. Different RAM makes no difference.
Is the graphics chip damaged and if so, can it be replaced in the Philippines at a service center?
    Thanks.
