H8-1040 Video Driver Crashing, System Restore then no longer boots properly

I previously had some issues with my graphics card driver crashing. After moving, I took the card out and cleaned out all the dust. The issue somehow got worse. (As you would imagine, the issue never presented itself in Safe Mode). Regardless, I decided to do a system restore. After completing the system recovery, the computer never went to the OS setup screen. In fact, it simply shows a blank screen now when it boots. There are no error beeps and the system diagnostic checks out. I'm not entirely sure what to do. I've tried booting in safe mode, but the computer says it can not complete the installation in safe mode.
So has my card died?

If this card had to be replaced, anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
Manufacturers will tweak their cards differently. This EVGA 660 is rated for a 450 watt power supply. The 460 watt PSU in your PC has sufficient amperage on the two 12v rails.

Metro fails completely after system restore - can no longer access either Metro or Metro Apps

Following a system restore, Metro no longer works - The windows button on the keyboard does nothing and clicking the start icon doesn't do anything either. Attempting to start Metro Apps results in failure - they cannot display on the screen and I see the
outline flash up briefly, then the app crashes. All non-metro programs work fine and aside from Metro, there are no problems.
How can I re-install Metro or solve the issue? This seems a pretty major failure in the preview - If Metro fails it causes major disruption - kind of like it used to be when explorer.exe failed. No menus, no access to system functions - updates etc.
Any suggestions? How can I re-install ( or fix ) Metro without having to scrap the entire OS and rebuild from scratch?
I thought the store beta not working was a major problem, but it's nothing compared to this.
Rolling back the system restore, or choosing another restore point does not correct the problem -

Hi,
Are you using the built-in administrator account? Have you tried to create another user account then check whether the issue persists?
You can follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue:
Run wsreset.exe to clear the Windows store cache.
Re-register the Windows store apps by the following guide (also applies to Windows 10 Technical Preview):

Recovering after a hard drive crash and restore

I have a question before I sync my iPod again;
I had a operating system hard drive crash a little while ago, and I reimaged my drive with a three month old backup, basically I rolled back my computer's state a couple months, and with it, the state of my iTunes library.
Now, my library is going to be missing songs that my iPod has, does this mean when I sync my iPod again iTunes is going to delete those songs it doesn't know about anymore? I don't recall seeing the option to "manually manage" the iPod anymore, but even in that case does this mean I can't automatically sync again?
I understand that I can't use iTunes to pull songs off my iPod but thats not what I want. Essentially I want to rebuild my iTunes library list from what the iPod has, even if it can't find the songs on the local disk anymore, I just don't want them deleted.
Maybe I'm approaching this problem the wrong way..

I'm struggling with the exact same issue, so I'm hoping you get a response soon from someone who knows what the g-o may be... I did sync my iPod after my hard drive crashed, but I had iTunes already configured to 'manually manage' my music, so it didn't clear my entire iPod. I'm just scared of accidentally deleting certain music off my iPod playlist that I didn't burn onto disc & so I'd lose it for good.
Let's hope someone's got an idea...

Spotify only displays black screen after video driver crashes

Using Windows 8.1 64x, AMD 7800 series card with the latest AMD 15.4 beta drivers. This driver release is prone to crashing. Spotify, though, doesn't recover after the driver crashes and only displays a black screen. Restarting the program fixes the problem, but it shouldn't have to be restarted in the first place.

How do I get firefox 3.5 back? Firefox 4 can't find yahoo.mail URL. Using your suggestions has caused me to loose my system tray icons and printers from my computer altogether and my system restore will no longer work either.

Firefox 4.0 cannot find the Yahoo mail URL. Working with the Verizon tech we were able to get Internet Explorer to finaly find the yahoo mail web site. But not luck with Firefox 4.0 .
Since trying your suggestions to make firefox 4 find the Yahoo mail URL. I have noticed that all of my system tray icons except the Panda anti virus and volume control icons have disapeared. My system restore will not restore and printers are gone altogether. How do I get the old firefox and all i've lost back.

"Verify Disk" on system drive crashes system

When I run Disk Utility's "Verify Disk" function on my system drive, it runs for about twenty seconds then my system locks up entirely. My system drive is a pair of mirrored 250Gig drives. I haven't received any warnings from the OS that either drive is malfunctioning.
Any idea what I can do to diagnose this problem?

You're welcome. The beauty of the Discussions is that everybody gets to see what the issue is, with someone here being likely to have seen and successfully dealt with it before.
Regarding DiskWarrior not seeing the RAIDed drives, you might check to insure that you're using a DW version 3.0.3 (release 39) disc. Previous versions had a RAID issue, which was supposedly corrected with the latest build. Alsoft has a free updater to make a new startup disc, if this applies to you. If you're already using the version 3.0.3 disc, you might send an email to Alsoft Tech Support about it. The folks there are very knowledgeable, helpful, and responsive, typically answering within 24 hours or so.
We're glad the drive directory issue is fixed and the troublesome file is gone, especially since it is also linked to crashing issues when using CS2.

Lexmark software/driver crashing system

I recently had a need to install a Lexmark printer software/drive on my system. While there were no problems at the time, shortly following my return to my regular printer and deletion of the Lexmark printer selectivity, I encountered the spinning beachball at various times plus was unable to use the keyboard shortcut force quit - the only way out was to turn the machine off and restart then uninstall their software.
I had encountered this identical problem several years ago when I was attempting to setup a Lexmark printer on an iMac 700 probably under 10.4, where the software was co-opting USB #1 on the computer. This was determined by extensive investigation and troubleshooting with Apple Support. It was determined then, and confirmed by Lexmark, that there was something in the software that was incompatible with Apple and it now looks like they have brought that same capability back into use.
Since there is no longer an information channel to Apple, I am using this method in hopes it will be noted by the tech staff for their consideration.

It seems I am still having problems. The following is what has happened over the last several days:
Computer problem and troubleshooting
7/3-4          Almost daily following normal turn on of computer - system turned off at night - system seems to load properly except unable to access Dock which should be hidden on left side of screen. There seems to be a short period of time between desk top coming up and spinning continuous beach ball whereby access to applications (usually accessed through Dock) through Disk Icon (I have it on the desktop). I was able to resume normal operation on the first day by launching Safari but the second day this did not work. Also, on the first day I used Lexmark's uninstaller to supposedly remove their software however there seems to be no way to confirm the ALL was removed.
7/4          After turn on and first crash and reboot I brought up Activity Monitor and after noting the unusual activity I brought up Grab and did four screen shots that hopefully can be used for analysis of what is going on. After two more reboots, using power button, system returned to normal.
7/5          When opening initially I immediately opened Activity Monitor (AM) and noted the Dock processes but no time was allocated initially. Changed AM from All, heirically to Active Processes and Dock no longer shows. Attempted to bring up Grab but it is no longer available under AM but was able to locate on using Finder Help (Taking a picture of your entire screen) link (Open Grab). However attempts to capture screen resulted in only the Help screen showing in the resulting photos even though both were fully visible on the screen. Activity monitor finally froze - absolutely no changes on AM including the Graphic representation. Attempted to use all methods to do a Force Quit but none worked, no response from "Point and click" and no response from OA-Option-Esc.
Reboot (turned off using power button).
AM came up following login and again no Dock on AM. Attempted keyboard force quit but still no response. Reboot and this time all seemed to be normal following login.
7/6          Turn on this morning (0830) brought almost identical results as yesterday. Note unable to use Grab again. Also note that two processes, iavd and ReportCrash were the most active processes following launch of AM - system had been up for several minutes before bringing up AM. Also note that there was no Dock process showing on Active Processes (AP). System froze and performed hard reboot.
Still no Dock in AP with ReportCrash the most active process after a short period of activity. hard reboot.
This time almost immediately the system showing problems with short pauses (freezes?) of the AM and ReportCrash still the most active process (20-40%). Reboot using Apple > Restart.
System seems to come up as normal with Dock showing immediately on AM (100% CPU) and Dock accessable on screen with no problems noted at this time.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hard drive crashes, System Profiler freezing

On a relatively new G5, I had a hard drive die about 1 month ago (had dual 250's installed, so now have 1 internal 250 and an external 250 firewire for backupt). Tonight my computer froze up on me. Powering off and then on led to a gray screen that persisted (nothing on the screen). I powered it off and on again and after a few minutes, it started up. I wanted to check on the drives, so I went to "About this Mac." When I click on "Serial-ATA," I just get a spinning wheel at the top of the system profiler. The only way to close the system profiler is to do a "force quit." I can click on almost anything else in System Profile and it works fine. The same thing happens, though, if I click on "USB."
What's going on? Is there a problem with my remaining internal hard drive? Why does the same thing happen when I click on "USB?"

Basics of File Recovery
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When you delete files you erase only the directory entries, not the files themselves. However, the space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

BSOD video driver crashing in PPro ONLY

I'm getting a BSOD crash everytime I create a new seq or try to change seq settings. It has something to do with the seq setting dialog box. I can select any settings but as soon as I click OK, pow BSOD. minidumps point to the nvidia driver (nvlddmkm.sys). I'm using dell m6400, win 7 pro (fully updated), quadro 3700m (1 gig), 12gig mem, CS5.5 PPro 5.5.2 - Master collection (fully updated). I'm mostly the AE and 3dmax person in our shop and not a PPro regular but we use PPro as our main editor. I have a project I need to do some stuff on in PPro and can't setup a SEQ cause it keeps crashing. I'm not having any issues like this with any of the other adobe software or any other software I'm using and I haven't had this problem in the past with PPro so I assume that there is a problem between PPro 5.5.2 the newer video drivers I'm now using (nvidia 310.90).
Any Ideas, suggestions? I've tried just about everything I can think of. I thought about rolling the drivers back to CS5.5 era drivers (I guess around 285.xx ? ) but I really need the newer drivers for some features in the lastest 3Dmax/directX. Anyone else here had problems with PPro 5.5.2 and nvidia 310.xx?

Lost Bridge when hard drive crashed. Restored bridge on new computer. Recovered hard disk using DiskWarrior but cannot rebuild directory due to critical errors. Now need to restore just photos to new computer. Need to know which file in Bridge photos re

After multiple recovery attempts I finally used DiskWarrior to download saved files/folder/applicatiions to external hard drive. I cannot get old version (5.0) of bridge to run. Redownload Bridge (5.1) but still need to recover my photos.
Any advise on how this can be accomplished.

Bridge is only a browser. It does not contain any files. You need to find out where you saved your photos, and hope they are still accessible on the crashed drive... Just copy them over to your new drive.

After hard drive crash cant restore itunes library off ipod

My hard drive cracked it and had to send off the whole computer and get a new one put in...so i have lost everything...after updating my mac to get all applications and program versions back to where they were but my itunes is empty of course...now i cant figure out how to get my songs from my ipod which is synced with the old HD. so how can i get the songs from my ipod to the new itunes?!?!

This question is the most often asked question on this forum. A simple search for "transfer iPod music to iTunes" brings up tens of thousands of threads. (I guess nobody knows how to use any kind of search? Google is your friend, and so is that search box to the upper-right.)

System restored but doesn't boot

The hard drive in my Macbook died. I replaced it with a 320gB drive.
We have a Time Capsule that Time Machine backs up to.
I booted from the Leopard install disk and restored from the time machine backup. The system said it restored successfully but then when it tries to restart and boot I get the gray screen and the spinning icon for a few seconds and then the system shuts off. It does this every time. The install disc is still in the drive so if it simply wasn't finding a startup directory there it should have booted from there.
I tried zapping pram and I used the Leopard install disc to make sure the HD was set to the Startup disc which it was.
Any thoughts?

I have also run disk utility on the drive. Repair drive said the drive was OK. I repaired permissions which did some repairs to some printer libraries but that didn't make a difference in the system not booting.

Restore Session no longer works properly, the window shows as blank, and the restore button is greyed out. On the history tab, the three associated links are also greyed out and unusable. How do I restore functionality?

Just as the question says, I get a restore session tab whenever I open Firefox, but it no longer shows my tabs, and the Restore button is greyed out. If I open and then close a side, it no longer shows up in the "recently closed tabs" in the History menu. "restore previous session" and "Recently closed windows" are also greyed out.
I'd like this function to work correctly again.

Make sure that you do not use Clear History to clear the <i>Browsing History</i> when you close Firefox.

Using the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting is a more reliable way to restore session data.

Downloading new version of itunes and it crashes my internet. Ipod touch will not run with out new version. Have done many system restores and reset internet settings but still crashes net when i download any version HELP please

running windows vista prem. every time i try and down load the new version of itunes to laptop the net crashes when instalation is complete.
Unable to conect to the net and so unable to sync new ipod touch i then run a system restore.Then try and install itunes again . same thing happenes again

Can't recover my system after a hard drive crash.

My hp DV6-3123tx's hard drive crashed because of a collision
Steps i did:
Got a new hard drive and fit it in.
Using recovery DVDs tried to format it.
Everything was good but when the system reboots to install drivers it just gets stuck at the starting page (on which hp is written). I waited for hours together but it doesn't recover from that state
P.S: I had removed CMOS too after my hard drive crashed but restored and saved it's default settings in BIOS before the above mentioned steps.

Assuming this is just a problem with the recovery media, here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the exact same version that originally came with your notebook ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
