H87-G43 No sound?

Hey fellow msi users, looking for some assistance with a sound related issue
Brand new build from the ground up with a H87-G43 and an i5-4670k
Put windows 8.1 on the system and no sound through onboard audio... could it be a realtek issue or is the board junk?

Try an older realtek driver, there have been reports of the latest not working correctly.(The one of the cd as opposed to the one from the website)
If no help, uninstall both the realtek driver and VGA driver then re-install.
If again no help, try updating the bios to the latest version.
Final step would be to build this outside of the case on a non-conductive surface and re-seat everything. Make sure there are no extra stand offs in the case or anything else shorting the board out.

Q: I have a H87-G43 Gaming MB but the sound is not working under Win 7 64 bit, I also try to download the latest Realtek 1150 Audio driver from MSI web.
A: You need to update the Service pack 1 for your Windows 7 64bit to patch this issue.

Yes, although just a little oc.

Only with MSI vgas of the Gaming series (= even other MSI vgas won't work)

Choose what you like. Both are H87 boards hence no cpu oc possible anyway. VGA boost is not really worth buying a board for. The Gaming board features other extras like Killer LAN and enhanced onboard sound.

  • Should Enhanced Turbo still work on H87-G43 for non-k i7-4770?

Having a similar issue to the one described here ( https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172887.msg1258722#msg1258722 ) but this is on a H87-G43 with a non-k i7-4770. The feature used to work fine with all 4 cores going to 3.9 GHz on turbo but, with the stock cooler that I was using, thermal throttling became an issue on high workloads (e.g. AIDA64 stress test, handbrake, etc.).
So, I disabled Enhanced Turbo and I ordered a Hyper 212 Evo which I only recently installed. I turned Enhanced Turbo back on but now it seems that Enhanced Turbo is offering nothing extra over normal turbo with the 4 cores only hitting 3.7 GHz under load and not the 3.9 GHz that they used to reach. Hardware is the same (except the cooler, which has no effect) so I presume that it must be BIOS-related.
I'm running latest v2.5 BIOS for the board and have changed the Core Ratio Limits manually to value of 39 but still no joy. Does anyone else have this issue on H87-G43 with a non-k i7-4770? Can anyone confirm that the feature is working for them with a non-k i7-4770 (or any non-k CPU) on a H87-G43 with this latest v2.5 BIOS?

Ok, so I've done numerous BIOS flashes and here's what I have found:
Rather like the user in this topic ( https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172887.msg1258722#msg1258722 ), I found that the Enhanced Turbo worked correctly on the H87-G43 and i7-4770 with default Auto settings up to BIOS v2.3 (2013-06-07). The clock multiplier was set to 39 allowing turbo operation at 3.9 GHz on all cores.
With the introduction of BIOS v2.4 (2013-08-16), again similar to the other user, it is necessary to manually set the 1/2/3/4-Core Ratio Limit values (found in the CPU Features sub-menu of the OC Menu) to the value of 39 in order to allow turbo operation at 3.9 GHz on all cores.
Using BIOS v2.5 (2013-09-23), no matter what settings, it does not seem possible to allow turbo operation at 3.9 GHz on all cores with an i7-4770. It would seem the feature has either been accidentally or deliberately disabled in this latest BIOS. I'll raise it directly in a support ticket to MSI and in the meantime I will stay on BIOS v2.4 which is the most recent BIOS that allows me to get the most out of my CPU and new cooler.
Thanks again to xmad for his help and advice. Hopefully this post will save time and effort for other users with similar issues.

  • XMP Profile with H87 G43 Gaming

Hi, I just purchased Mainboard H87 G43 Gaming for my new rig.
I just notice that my Corsair RAM ( CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 2x4GB DDR3 Timing 9-9-9-24 ) is not run its full potential.
It should can run at 1600Mhz. Instead it just run at 1333Mhz as default.
After that I decided to enable XMP from BIOS. But my CPU will not boot if I enable it.
Fyi, I just enable XMP without touching other options in BIOS and I have experience in enabling XMP with the same RAM sticks in another board without problem.
I already update BIOS using version B4 and B3. But still no success :(
Please refer to the screen capture for the setting in BIOS :
    Do I miss something?

Disable XMP, set DRAM Frequency manual out of Auto to 1600, set DRAM V. to 1.565v's or so, if need be, set Dram Timing Mode to Link, set timings manual CR 1, 9 9 9 24. That should do it.
    Thanks for the response.
I just test each RAM stick and found out that 1 of it is faulty.
Its a bit strange that 1 month ago it worked great in my old Mainboard.
Anyway, I just RMA the RAM sticks and get the new one. now works perfectly

  • MSI H87-G43

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out if this board MSI H87-G43 supports the Haswell Refresh CPU's straight out of the box.  I have a feeling it does not, as the latest BIOS 2.7 mentions the Haswell Refresh CPU's.  So essentially If I purchase the board I would be playing Russian roulette with the hope that the board was updated to 2.7.   Any solution to this?  Do I have  to have another CPU just to update the board?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Any board that left the fab after 2014-02-25 supports the refresh cpus out of the box (hence being at bios 2.7). Older boards would need to be updated else no Haswell refresh would work (and you'd need an older Haswell to flash).
If you can check the board's S/N you can find out the date of manufacture.
    example:
    601-7816-XXXX131209XXXX
In this case board would be manufactured 2013-12-09. Position of the date is identical in any S/N for boards.

  • Winddows XP on H87-G43 need AHCI enabled.

    hi all
i have installed win XP on H87-G43 mobo where the current driver setting on bios is set to IDE. i need this to be SATA/ACHI. currently winXP is patched to SP3 and mobo drivers are installed. if there is a setting that allows individual HD's to be set to IDE or SATA i know exactly what to do . but in this case im totaly lost. pleas help me.

yup. installed win 7 and after the installation all i have to do is update the primery and secondary channels drivers to AHCI to get it done. this means i have to do switching in bios SATA mode from AHCI to  IDE and IDE to AHCI when ever i swtich from win 7 to XP and vise versa.
If you don't have a SSD drive there is nothing much AHCI do more than at IDE mode if that helps.

  • H87-G43 Gaming and i5 4570 max turbo on cores

    hello all.
Iam trying since yesterday to max my turbo mode @ all cpu cores via bios. I did put enchance turbo on auto/enable and i also tried to put manual x36 in each cpu multi. Every time the cores went up to 3.4 . I have read that with old bios it is possible to push all cores @ maximum turbo speed on H87-G43. My bios version is v11.0 . If anyone could help me out i will be very happy.
Thanks and nice to meeting you all

    You have a 4570? Not the 4570K?
    Only Z87 boards can overclock.
Early H87 BIOS versions could overclock but only with K CPUs. Those BIOS versions were update with a new microcode from Intel to fix a loophole in the B and Hseries boards.
If you had a K series CPU and you were prepared to flash a BIOS pre August 2013, then you had a chance of doing this. Even then there would have been no guarantee.
If you wanted to be certain of OC'ing, you should have opted for the Z board and K CPU.
Here you can find the official Intel high level differences between the chipsets. http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Z87-H87-H81-Q87-Q85-B85-What-is-the-difference-473/

  • Intel Rapid Storage Technology MSI H87-G43

I built a new system for a relative using the H87-G43 MSI board.  I have set up a SSD 64 GB to be used as a Caching disk using Intel's Rapid Storage Technology.
I followed the set up procedure which required a BIOS change to RAID Mode before the OS was installed.  So I have one 500 GB drive that is  accelerated  and the 64 GB SSD that  is being used as the caching drive.
No errors or BSOD's when booting, I had to enable the drive in the Intel console for this(it sees the drive just fine) to work.  The Intel Rapid Storage Technology(Intel SRT) really improves boot times over just using the mechanical drive. It is not a performance issue I am having just a reporting issue I think.
The question I have is about how Windows is reporting the drives in Device manager and computer management.
In device manager only the 500 GB drive is shown and it is shown as a SCSI device.
In computer management only the 500 GB drive is shown.
Both drives are shown in the Intel management console for this technology.
The computer is running fine and zippy, I am just a bit concerned about the 500GB drive (SATA) being reported as SCSI.  Funny I downloaded SPECCY and it shows it as a SCSI drive as well using a 40 pin cable.
Any help, thoughts, ideas, or experience with this technology that could enlighten me would be very helpful.
    Thanks

Problem solved, windows showing HDD as SCSI device is normal behavior.  This was confirmed.

  • H87-G43 BIOS/Haswell refresh

I'm having a couple problems. First I did a Windows 8.1 Refresh when my computer wouldn't fully shut down (I tried the "Choose what power buttons do" method to no avail). After that the computer was a little clunky and I was like "Oh yeah, put those BIOS in" then got MSI live update 6 and scanned, then installed what I thought it was saying I need.
I'm using a i3-4160 and have recently been reading about a Haswell refresh? Not sure if I need to be running an earlier BIOS. I read that pinned thread and towards the end it was suggested to post a new question. Thanks for any help.
