  • Do Firefox's and Thunderbird's versions 32 bit work also for 64 bit systems in Linux?

    Hello
I installed on my 64 bit laptop some Linux distros, each one in an alongside partition. Until now I used only 32 bit distros, because my machine has only 4 GB RAM and I prefer well tested softwares.
About Firefox and Thunderbird, I don't use the distro's versions, but I download from Mozilla's site the packages tar.bz2, expand them and save them into a date partition (not a system partition), accessible by each distro. In the same partition I saved also Firefox and Thunderbird profiles, in order to use the same software, the same profiles and the same mail archive with any distro I installed.
Now, I'd like to install also a distro that is offered only in the 64 bit version. The question is: may I use the same 32 bit version of Firefox and Thunderbird also with the 64 bit distro, sharing it (and profiles and mail archive) with the other distros (32 bit)?
If no, may I use only for the 64 bit distro the tar.bz2 of Firefox and Thunderbird 64 bit, but keeping on sharing profiles and mail archive with 32 bit Firefox and Thunderbird (with the other distros)?
    Thanks for your help.

You may need appropriate 32-bit packages in order to run 32-bit versions on 64-bit Linux though.
There are 64-bit versions of Firefox for Linux at https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ and for Thunderbird well they do not make as easy to get http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/31.2.0/linux-x86_64/ just choose your language like say en-US.

  • Where can I find firefox 64-bit

    Hi!
I installed ORACLE Entrprise Linux 4 u.7 64-bit. Where can I find firefox 64-bit? It is absent in the distribution.

    Hi Herb,
For the record, we are talking about the Flash plugin from Adobe being an "alpha" release, not the Firefox browser.... (see: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/64bit.html)
It's "alpha", in that Adobe assumes no responsibility for supporting incompatibilities with the Flash spec., would be my guess. I've been using it since November, 2009 (and the latest refresh of the Alpha, early Feb., 2010) with good results. By "good", I mean, it hasn't crashed my browser, seems to perform moderately well on my laptop, and I can hit all the Flash sites like YouTube, ETrade, and things "just work". I've had much better luck with this alpha release of the plugin than I've had with the Linux open-source plugin, swfdec: http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/
If you read the Adobe FAQ (http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/faq.html#flashplayer10FAQ_64-bit03) it appears Adobe plans to release the full version with their next major release cycle.
    Hope that clarifies...

  • Can I Install OAS 10.1.3.1 32 bit on Redhat Linux 64 bit ?

    Hi all,
Can I Install OAS 10.1.3.1 32 bit on Redhat Linux ES 4 (64 bit) ?
    Thank you for your help,

I am sure, this is possible.
I wouldn't advice you to waist resources with 32-bit software on your 64-bit OS, but if you want to, you can.

  • Silverlight dosen't work at Firefox 18.0.2 on linux ubuntu 12.10

Silverlight (Moonlight, in fact) dosen't work at Firefox 18.0.2 on linux ubuntu 12.10.

Moonlight claims to be substitue for Silverlight. Microsoft owns Silverlight who also invests in developing Moonlight using Mono for Linux is a way to hide their monopoly state, If not Moonlight should be definitely be working on Linux based OS.
It is clear that Microsoft shows we provide alternative and then if it does not work users need to switch to Windows and yes Moonlight does not work.

  • Installing OBIEE on 64 bit Redhat Enterprise Linux 5

    Hello,
We have a 64 bit Redhat Enterptise Linux 5 box, and I installed on it the 32 bit Oracle Database client as well as the OBIEE software.
The 64 bit installation requirements state: "For 64-bit Linux system installations, you must use the Oracle Database Client 32-bit libraries."
However, the installer never prompted me for the location of the 32 bit Oracle Database Client libraries.
How can I make sure that these libraries were indeed used during the installation?
    Thank you very much.
    -sb

The installer does not reference any libraries. You will need to place them in the correct or refer to the Database client libraries via your system path for your Server to work correctly.

  • Firefox 64 bit and flash 32 bit chroot

Since two days im trying to get 32 bit flash plugin to work with firefox 64 bit using chroot enviroment. I followed those instructions on archwiki http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _in_Arch64 but theres only solution for both firefox and flash 32 bit.
Any ideas how to do this?

    - Go to Flash10 x86_64.
    - Download file at bottom.
    - Decompress it.
    - Copy ".so" file over ~/.mozilla/plugins folder.
    - Restart firefox...
I suggest evryone just avoid mixing 64bits and 32bits... unless impossible (ie. wine64 doesn't run win32 apps, just win64 ones)
EDIT: Oh, about your "real" question: maybe you were looking for "ndispluginwrapper" (or something alike)
EDIT2: I forgot to mention you should read some literacy about "what is a chroot and what is its purpouse"....

  • Webex - 32-bit firefox + 32-bit java [solved]

    Hi all,
I am having trouble getting my 32-bit firefox and 32-bit java working together nicely.  I installed both from the AUR and in order for firefox (32-bit) to see the plugins, I manually export the MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH and JAVA_HOME.  Once I do that, I can see I have java, but once I go to the java test site, the applet fails to load.  I linked the libnpjp2 library, is there anything else special I need to do?  Also, I have the same problem at the webex test site.  Since java apparently is not properly configured, the applet there also does not start.

I am no longer using specifically a 32-bit browser, I just enabled the multilib repository and nspluginwrapper which pulls in 32-bit compatiblity libraries which I need for something else.  I have it working now to my satisfaction.

I will close this as a duplicate.
To answer this you should of course try the latest Firefox 24.4 esr not the plain Firefox 24 from the Release channel.

It describes a solution for making the Firefox plugin work for Java 32-bit & Firefox 32-bit, running on a 64-bit Windows OS. -- I can confirm that this is an issue, and can confirm that this is the fix.
I suspect it's because of the new convention for 32-bit apps (C:\Program Files (x86)\...), and the JRE doesn't recognize that Firefox is there, because it assumes it should be in C:\Program Files\... ?

How do you get the 32bit client to communicate with the 64bit Oracle instance on the same windows box? After installing the 64 bit db and client (on a developer desktop), I installed the 32 bit client to a different oracle home. I could not get it to connect to the listener - what am I doing wrong? Should I reinstall it to the 64bit home - I'm afraid that'll kill everything though.
Also, I think I'm correct in this, but not sure: any 32bit app must use the 32bit client on the 64bit box. MS Access needs 32bit ODBC, which needs 32bit client, etc.
    Thx,
    Jeff
