My airport extreme is not showing up on my mac in airport utilities, was blinking amber I unplugged it back to green but still not showing up in airport utility

Suggest that you restart the entire network by powering everything off...order is not important...and starting the modem first, then AirPort Extreme, then each device one at a time.
Temporarily, connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule.
Check to see if AirPort Utility can see the AirPort Extreme
If this works, when you have completed checks or adjustments on the AirPort Extreme, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable.

  • Airport extreme not showing in airport utility

I am running osx10.7 server and am attempting to port remap my airport extreme. When i open airport utility, it says that there are no airports in range, when i'm actually connected to an airport via wifi. I cannot figure out what the issue is. If someone can help me fix this issue and instruct me how to remap my rounter so i can use it to host websites and the like, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

This may happen if your system accidentally switch the radio band.
    Try this first:
Disable WiFi in the Menu Bar
    Enable again
Check if the Airport Extreme shows up in Airport Utility
If so, choose the Airport Extreme
    Click Manual Setup
    On there:
If possible disable "Guest Network" (it cause trouble by switching constantly radio band for user convenience)
Give the 5GHz wireless a dedicated name
If you have no 802.11g (iPhone, iPod Touch) in the network:
    Set radio mode to: 802.11n only (5GHz) - 802.11.n only (2.4GHz)
    If you need 802.11g
    Set radio mode to: 802.11n only (5GHz) - 802.11b/g
You will reach these settings by holding option key (alt) while clicking on the Radio Mode pulldown.
Click Apply and wait for the Extreme to come back
    After that,
check that your 5GHz capable systems use only the 5GHz name (SSID) when joining wireless.
For that, delete the 2.4GHz name (SSID) from the list of known networks in Systems Settings - WiFi - Advanced
Move the preferd network in the List at first place.
    Rejoin wireless

PS ... to configure the Express, best connect a laptop via Ethernet to them. This eases the process a lot.

  • Airport Extreme not showing up after switching to extend the network

I have an older Airport Extreme that I am trying to setup to extend the network from my uverse gateway. When I restore the AE to factory settings and set it up to extend the network, it goes through the process and then flashes amber. Also, it takes several tries for the AE to even show up at all in Airport Utility. The AE is version 7.6.4. I am running on Mac with 10.10.1
    Thanks

When two wireless routers.....the Uverse in your example, and an AirPort Extreme......are located a few rooms apart with both configured to create a wireless network using the same wireless network name and password, then things will behave as if you have one "big" network.
Although the AirPort Express is technically creating a separate network, the fact that it is using the same wireless network name and password will make it behave as if it were extending the network to provide more range.  This is technically known as a "Roaming Network".
Also are you suggesting to not use the uverse gateway as a wireless router but to use the AE as such?
No, since you indicated in your first sentence that you wanted to use the older AirPort to extend the network.  It could not "extend" the network if the Uverse gateway was not already producing a wireless network signal, since there would be nothing to extend.
Now, if you do want to turn off the wireless function on the Uverse and only use the AirPort Extreme, that is an option, but you will have a much "smaller" network range wise, since you will only have a good wireless signal when you are in range of the AirPort Extreme.

  • Extreme not showing up in airport admin

Sorry in advance for the long post.
long story short: neither my airport extreme nor my airport express appear in my airport admin utility after resetting both. I'm still able to connect wirelessly to the internet, though. I can't do maintenance on my network or name the base stations now. Any ideas?
long story long: i use an airport extreme to create a wireless network in my home. My TiVo is also connected to my network. I use an airport express fror Airtunes.
A few weeks ago, the network no longer worked - the problem was with my ISP, and now is fine (I can connect wirelessly to the net again). Problem is, now I can't get either the extreme or the express to show up in my airport admin. I'm connected to the 'net via my now 'unnamed' ("Apple Airport ed2B..) wireless network. Unfortunately, i can't do anything else, like name my base station, enable my express to connect to this unnamed network, connect TiVo wirelessly, etc.

  • How do I make my USB/Airport Extreme disk show up in Disk Utility

I am running the most current version of OS X and a current generation Airport Extreme. I have an Epson Network Printer and a 2TB MyBook Studio hardwired to the Airport Extreme. I had thought that I could see the USB drive in Disk Utility, I need to format an old Time Machine partition, but now the drive is not showing up at al in Disk Utility. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You know, that's what I ended up doing. I just really thought that I had been able to see it with DiskUtility. Must be getting old!

  • AirPort Extreme not visible in the airport utility installed on my Imac

My AirPort Extreme is suddenly not visible in the airport utility installed on my Imac. After numerous rescans I am bordering to give up as the connection seems to be working fine when I connect it to the Imac through the ethernet cable. Any advices further than restarting the devices?

For the app Airport Utility you have to be connected to the AE wifi.
If you are not talking about the AU App, but the Airport Antenna you can do following:
disconnect AE form power, wait 10-15 seconds, turn off the Airport Antenna in your mac. Then connect the AE to power, wait till it is fully started, then turn the Airport Antenna to on again.

  • Older airport express not showing up in airport utility - want to extend network

I just bought a new Airport Extreme so that I could use my older Airport Express to extend my wireless network. The Extreme is working fine. Set up was easy.  Airport Utility isn't finding my express - no matter what I do - and I'm at a total loss. Please help me find it and then extend my network. Thanks!

If you decide to keep the new AirPort Extreme, you will need  a newer "n" version of the AirPort Express if you want to try to extend the network using wireless only.
A "refurbished" Model A1264 would work, but it will only extend one band from your dual band AirPort Extreme.
A "new" Express, Model A1394 would be recommended since it will extend both bands.
You do have the option to use the old AirPort Express, but that would involve using a permanent wired Ethernet connection between the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict wireless performance in advance when the signal must pass through numerous walls and or a ceiling. For that reason, it would be a good idea to understand the store's return policy in advance if you want to try a new or refurbished Express.

  • Airport Express not showing up on airport utility

I've connected Aiport Express for the forst time via an internet cable to my wireless router, and Have got the flashing amber light.
Have I missed something, does anyone know/
    Thanks

Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AirPort Express (AX) to see if that helps AirPort Utility "see" the AX.
In order for the AX to extend the signal from the Airport Extreme (AEBS), the following must occur:
Wireless Mode set to Extend a Wireless Network
Wireless Network Name must exactly match the name of the network created by the AEBS
Wireless Security must exactly match the wireless security setting on the AEBS
Wireless Password must exactly match the wireless password setting on the AEBS

  • Second AirPort Express not showing up in AirPort Utility

I got a second AirPort Express (APE) to extend my wireless in a different direction from the first but I have not been able to get the new one to show up in the AirPort Utility.
Here are some of the things that I have tried based on my research so far:
-Unplugged APE and waited 30 seconds then plugged it back in
-Pressed reset button untill light blinked, this caused the light to stay solid amber for several seconds then it started slowly blinking again
-Plugged in to Time Capsule with cable, this allowed me to configure the second APE but once I disconnected the cable it still would not connect wirelessly
-Disconected the first APE and "forgot" it in the AirPort Utility, still not able to set up 2nd APE
Did I get a bad unit?

    Answering my own post ...
I first directly connected the AX to the iMac using the ethernet cable, and was able to configure the AX (not sure that I actually had to do this, as my issue was probably due to poor signal strength - as described later). I then moved the AX back to the living room, and was able to connect again, but soon it was dropped. Determined that the signal was weak. I played with positioning the AX to optimize signal, and now am able to get OK signal (only about 1/3 strength, based on number of bars in "fan" shaped icon in menu bar). Was able to stream iTunes to stereo as well, which is great. Also determined that the 2WIRE system that Airport was trying to set up WAS my neighbor (and not my gateway/router). If you don't see "Apple XXXXX" base station and network listed when you are in Airport Admin Utility or Internet Connect (which I didn't, but since I was using 2WIRE gateway/router, assumed that it was my AX when the 2WIRE appeared in the Airport network connection option), then the AX is not properly set up (weak signal or other problem).
So, with the AX in the living room (front of the house), and the iMac in the sun room (back of the house), I am able to get OK, but not great signal from AX. So far, seems to be sufficient to connect to internet and stream iTunes. I may see if I can reposition the AX on the other side of the living room wall, but that will then require running a long cable to connect to the stereo.
Bottom line: 50ft. range of AX may be reduced when used in old (1920's era) houses (thick, plaster walls). Actual distance between AX and iMac is probably 30-40 feet, though they are separated by at least 3-4 walls. If repositioning to other side of wall doesn't do the trick, I may need to step up to Extreme.
I hope this helps others that might have similar problems.

  • Airport Express Not Showing up in Admin Utility

Have an Intel iMac, and tried to set up AX yesterday. Using SBC DSL internet connection (2-wire system). Plugged phone line into 2-wire router, ethernet cable between router and AX, powered both up. Router shows 3 green lights, indicating that everything is "good." Likewise, AX shows up with a green light. On the iMac, I never got the generic "Airport Express Network" or anything, but did have 2WIRE381 recognized (presumably as my AX network). I am able to connect to the 2WIRE381, and show a strong signal. However, I cannot connect to the internet, nor can I configure AX via the the Admin Utility (nothing shows up). I've tried both soft and hard resets, powering off the router, restarting the iMac, ... nothing seems to work. AX also not visible in iTunes (since no internet connection).
Any thoughts? One thought that I had ... is it possible that I am picking up a neighbor's signal, and that is why I can't configure it? My AX is about 30-40 feet away (single level house, 1200 sqft.) with probably 3-4 walls between AX and iMac.
    Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • Airport express not showing up in airport utilities

    Hi everyone,
First off, I am very new to the mac OS so please excuse obvious misstakes.
I received my macbook pro last monday combined with an aiport base station and an express. I planned to use the express for the airtunes at home and use it as a router with printer attached at work. My home situation works great. I have a harddisk attached to my extreme base station and can stream that content via my macbook pro to the express (which does drop connection quite frequently).
However, when at work cannot seem to get any connection to express. I have tried every single configuration. PLugged in with ethernet, without, with printer, without. I have tried resetting, unplugging. I made a new profile at home before i left which is setup to make the express a wireless router. An option I had not found the previous time I could not connect to it. But alas, this makes no difference.
If I could just make ANY connection to it i would be able to figure it out but i cant. Not even after a reset when the express is 10 cm from the laptop.
    PLease Help me,
    thanks in advance

Your new iMac should not have any issues connecting to the 1st generation AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
When having difficulties accessing the AirPort thru the AirPort Utility, try the following, in order checking accessibility with the utility after each step:
Check the local connection. If you are trying to access the AirPort wirelessly, make sure that you are connected to its wireless network before running the AirPort Utility to administer it. If you are still unable to access it with the utility, temporarily connect your computer directly using an Ethernet cable to one of the base station's LAN ports.
Power cycle the base station. Remove the power adapter's plug from the power outlet, and then, wait 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
Perform a "factory default" reset on the base station.

  • Airport Express not showing up

Noticed my aexpress was blinking amber today. We use it to stream music to speakers.
I tried to reset it and it still is blinking amber. It is not showing up in Airport Utility 5.6 at all.
It did a few minutes ago but when I went throught the set up process it said something was wrong (don't remember, it was
    all a blur)
I am basically redoing my whole network. I have so much stuff I am trying to streamline:
I have a new Airport Extreme that I have ethernet to the cable modem.
I have iMac etherneted into that.
I then have a wireless printer (Canon) that is across the room working fine.
I have a HP Laser Printer I would also like to put across the room- was thinking of getting
or using this Airport Express for that and possibly getting another for the stereo.
I wish I could get some good advice on what to do.
I also have a Weather station that  uses ethernet but it 'buzzes' and I was hoping to somehow put that in another room (i have one of those
ethernet over electrical plug thingies but does not seem to work for that) AND
    a VOIP phone
After all that I still have 2 usb hard drives.
    ahhhhhhhhh networking gods help me.

It may just be possible that the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is just a bit "out of sorts." I would suggest that you perform a "hard" or "factory default" reset on it to see if this gets it working properly again.

  • Airport Express not showing name given

    Hello Community,
I have the latest Airport Extreme and Airport Express. I am also using the latest Airport Utility, 6.0.
I am using the Airport Express to extend my network. However, under my Wi-Fi icon (upper right icon), I can not see the name given to my Airport Express. Therefore I can not manually select it. I can see it's name in iTunes, if I want to remotely play music and under "Network>Advanced" I can see it has the "same" name as my Extreme, but with an "AE" after the Extreme's name. Im sure that means Airport Express. Also, of course I can see the AE and the name given to it using Airport Utility.
Question, why is the name given to the Airport Express not showing up under my Wi-Fi ? I could have sworn when I first configured it, it showed up under the Wi-Fi drop down menu under "Other Devices", I believe it read.
    I am running Lion, 10.7.3
Any help please ? Thank you in advance !

By the way, I set up the Airport Express wirelessly. Should I have connected it with an Ethernet to my Extreme to set the Express as an Extended network device ? Thanks !

  • How to setup a guest network when the dialogue boxes do not show up in AirPort Utility 6.1

How do I setup a guest network when the dialogue boxes do not show up in AirPort Utility 6.1?
I see screenshots where there are boxes to 'enable' guest network but these simply do not apear on the Wireless tab in AirPort Utility

I now have a guest account, thanks to you!
I did the factory reset and was able to set up the guest account.
There were 3 problems, all of which I was able to solve.
The first problem was connect to Ethernet, which I selected by WAN port, as shown in the first screen shot. This page used to read just Ethernet and the Bridge Mode.
The second problem was whether to share a range of addresses or share a public IP address. I selected share a public IP address as shown in the first screen shot. I had tried the range of IP addresses in my earlier attempts, the ones that failed. Hopefully this will have no effect.
I have forgotten what the third problem was - only excuse is a few too many flavored drinks. I didn't have any problems solving it though.
What is really weird is I can log on to Guest and use on my iPad (first generation), my wife's iPod Touch (third generation), and my wife's 2011 MacBook Pro. I can't log onto Guest on my 2008 iMac, even after a restart. I get the image below.
Since I don't lug my iMac around a lot and it is connected by Ethernet, while my little make it right brain says figure this out, I am not going to worry about it.
Thank you again for your time and patience in helping me solve this.
