Hack for IE 6

Hey,
Can anyone advice me on hacks for IE6.
I'm designing sites on IE7 and hacking for Firefox i.e using
html>/**/body div#nav_top {margin-left:10px;}
When I then look at my design on IE6, things are shifting
over a bit (not just on floats but general margins etc). What hack
would I use for IE6 to sort this out?
Also, to check on various IE platforms, I'm currently finding
other computers that have older versions of IE on.....is this
wrong? My guess is that there must be a way of testing my site on
one machine for different browser versions??
Any help would be great
thanks shell

Mind you that those are statistics from user's going to W3C
schools. I'd
hardly trust their statistics to be accurate for a global
user-base.

Sorry for the slow reply, I needed to check with someone
about a macro they had but it is not one that will do what you
    want.
Is page numbering a requirement or do you would you be happy
with working links? If working links would be sufficient, there is
a macro on my site under Print Issues but it relies on the string
for the link being exactly the same as the string for the target.

There is no way to change the background color.
We may just mimic this feature thru insertion of a colored shape moved to the background.

  • Thumbnails "hack" for cs3

Is there a new "hack" for viewing psd thumbnails in windows explorer,? i have tryed the shell extention thingy, but it didnt work...
    Tnx

    Hi Jim,
I will check if I have another version in place. Maybe now I get a problem because I use Bridge for viewing the new pictures, classifying by tags. For searches later on I have Photoshop elements because of it´s fast database. For PSE I now need Version 7 with Camera Raw 5.2, for Bridge and CS3 (more complex actions for improving my pictures) I had to install ACR 4.6.
From Bridge I can open the pictures with "open" and 4.6 appears before entering CS3. But in Bridge the option "open with camera raw" is not available.
Hopefully I only have 2 ACR 4.x versions in the CS3 directories. This would be easy to solve. Otherwise it seems to get more and more enerving to find the error.

  • Hack for Arrows and Scrollbars Yet?

Has anyone found a hack for returnign the arrows and turning off scroll bars yet?
It's still driving me nuts both to not have arrows and to have the screens jump all over the place in documents because I click where they are supposed to be.
And to have to look at the scroll bars in order to move up or down or right to left with the mouse.
Don't tell me about arrows and touch screens. I use a mouse. That great Apple invention that suckered me into an Apple in the first place. Using the arrows would also meaing having to look for the correct arrow. Productivity is too far down the list of improvements in Mountain Lion.

No. File a bug report with Apple for missing functionality and a lousy design decision, even if it's appropriate for their iOS devices.

  • Being hacked for a year. Need advice on viruses & malware

My ex-husband has been hacking my computers for about a year. I would like some advice on how to keep him off my computers. I can't keep him from hacking into AT&T's website, but I'd like to at least see if I can do something to get rid of him. A litle background. He is American but now lives in Bangalore, India. He is a brilliant man who lost his job and  had months to look for a job and learn how to cyber-stalk me to shreds. He also has a friend who designs websites and owns the server which housed my blog. His friend got things started.
My ex-husband, as a I said, is brilliant. He is also a sociopath. So, any indication from me to him that he's making me angry or upset in any way is tantamount to "begging for my life".  That's exactly what he wants. The only optioin I have is to deal with it on my own, as opposed to appealing to him to stop.
I regularly restore my computers (desktop, laptop, iPad, iPhone) to factory settings. I use iCloud for photos, calendar, address book, and music. Sharing is off. I'm sure my son's computer has stuff all over it. I no longer keep anything on my computers other than what's on iCloud. Any documents are created offline, saved to an external hard drive, and securley trashed afterward.
Here is a sampling of what he's done.
    1. He can hack through any password. A friend, the head of Virginia Tech's IT department, told me that he must have purchased a password decorder, but I'm not so sure.
    2. He can hack into any site. He regularly hacks into my iTuness account, AT&T, American Express, Comerica Bank, you name it. He used to change the passwords to everything at leave it at that, but things have gotten increasingly weird.
    3. Now he doesn't bother to change the password. He hacks into things, and makes changes. I use my AMEX card or bank account to pay bills online. He changes the payment to a bogus one, so they don't get paid. He turns off notifications, so I don't know. I had my TV & inernet service turned off due to this. Now I know when my bills are due, and make sure things are okay.
    4. He's phished me so I went to AT&T & American Express sites he created. He somehow was able to redirect me to a bogus career page for Restoration Hardware. I knew what I was supposed to see, so I used a friend's computer to get to the right page. He knew I was looking for a job there. He messed with my Flickr account, so they couldn't see my portfolio. I could see it, but a "regular" person would only see two weird photos.
    5. I believe he's managed to hack into my gmail account & me.com accounts. @me is in the Cloud. I use 2-step verification and G@@gle authenticator.
    6. I was working on my desktop, which logs out after 10 minutes. Ex-husband was angry with me at that moment (heard via my son). When I returned to log back in, I was locked out and had to restore my computer. My log in password was changed. I had just replied to an email sent to my @me account on that computer.
    7. I left a document on my laptop because I ddin't care if he saw it. I prepared my computer to be restored and wanted to email the document to myself. I couldn't becasue there were all these other things attached to it. I wish I'd taken a screen shot of it. But there was a zip file, a jpeg and several other things.
Can anyone offer me any help? Now that I know there was junk attached to a document, does that mean my external hard drive is currupted by documents I've stored there? My passwords are looooong. I have a "best practices" system that I use. But still he manages to break through. Thoughts?
    I use Mountain Lion 10.9.1

Thanks for replying. It's so nice to know someone is out there listening. I can't say I'm always immediately hacked. Things ebbed down for awhile and are now back up and running a bit. He have had a bad week at work. Or hates India. I just want to be left alone. Yet bad things are definitely being found on my computers. I hadn't thought of disconnecting everything from the Internet, but I have to have it turned on to install.
Question. If I'm resetting everything how can a keylogger stay onboard? I'm certain they were installed back when he had access to my computers (a desktop and laptop). I assumed these would disappear when I restored. Not true?
How can he download a keylogger over the Internet? I decided to restore after he hacked into Transunion's site. I didn't know what my password was. It wasn't written down. But he found a way on there. I'm sure I logged on from my laptop a month ago or so. Maybe he'd had it in his pocket, so to speak. But I wonder, since he's phished AMEX & AT&T, if he's become adept at hacking into their sites. ???  Way over my head.
Question 2: Today I was updating some Pages docs which I store on my USB memory stick. I keep the stick with me AT ALL TIMES. It's never in the house when I'm not there. Same with printed passwords - on a little crib sheet. I restored my laptop 2 days ago. So this was the first time I'd used the stick or any app (did install Firefox) since the restore. Suddenly there was a "restored files" in my trash. I checked inside the folder, still in the trash. There were lots of jpeg sort of colored squares. I didn't open anything, just threw over 100 things away securely. Is my USB stick infected? Clueless on this one. When I restored I didn't empty the "empty disk space".
Woe is me: When I reinstalled the operating system on my desktop today I was told some "additional" things were being downloaded. It's exhausting just trying to describe all this. Some things are perfectly normal. Others clearly aren't. I'm becoming more educated on the subject. But after a while I get confused. After all, it's a bit emotional.
I'm sure there are or were cameras and listening devices in my home. They were installed in our marital home before I moved out.  But my ex now lives in India. And I use my laptop all over the house when I reinstall. So I don't think cameras are it.
At first I thought he was breaking into my house to look at my printed passwords. You can break through a dead bolt - I looked it up on YouTube.  Easy step-by-step instructions for any future criminal! Who needs a real job these days? I should quit trying to do business online and take up burglary.
Final thought: Thank you so much for your ideas. I'd love to know about the keylogger situation. Meanwhile, it's well below freezing here. I'm freezing. I'm going to forget about this for the night, put 2 pairs of sweat pants on, my mittens, and pour myself a glass of wine. Truly, thank you so much.

  • Hack for IE6 and below needed

    Hi,
my website is http://mysafety.be and although the site displays perfect in Firefox and IE7 and IE8, there is a problem with the display in IE6. The layout has a header, a left column (for a flyout menu) and a main content body to the right of the left column.
The pages are deisgned with fluid design; I use some specific rules for IE7 and IE6 to get the dropdown and flyout menus work. The dropdownmenu is formatted "menu" and the flyout menu is formatted "menu1". The dropdown and flyout menus have each specific rules for IE6.
What happens in IE6 is that the main content body drops to below the left column.
    Following style rules are applied:
    1. the main body style:
    width: 90%
    margin right: 5%
    margin left: 5%
    max-width: 1200px
    min-width: 900px
    2. the left column (menu1) style:
    float: left
    height: 920px
    width: 200px
    3. the main content style:
    height: 900px
    overflow: auto
    padding: 10px
    4. in the main body style (main.css) I also have following specific IE hacks:
    * html #body {margin-top:0px}
    *:first-child+html {margin-top:27px}
    5. the IE6 only style for the left menu specifies no dimensions other then this:
    display: block
    left: 105px
    position: absolute
    top: 0
    width: 105px
There are no IE6 only stylings for the main content, which is why I am puzzled that in IE6 the main content drops below the left column.
    Any clues please?
    Thank you!
    Erik

yes, it is fixed; sorry I did not give an update yet. I will now.
    I discovered several things wrong.
    1. I used a styling for the flyout menu that was not correct; this is the page I got my flyout from: http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/flyout_4level.html and I discovered that I used two stylings (one regular, and one for IE), while the styling included with this menu had the IE instructions included. Conflicts.
    2. I found another error in the positioning of the picture below the ol in the page; IE would read the styling in such a way that the "maincontent" was wider then allowed.
    3. I had two hack lines that assigned values for IE7 on one line, and on the other values for IE6, this last one was incorrect.
So, solved now. Thanks for the follow up, Murray.
    Kind regards,
    Erik

  • tv hack for SDTV...no, make that a "workaround"

I have a Toshiba SDTV with component inputs but no setting for "enhanced definition" so anything coming out of the tv is distorted - 3:3 (pillarboxed) for 4:3 content, stretched vertically for widescreen content. Everyone is svelte, circles are narrow ovals, etc.
I had been asking for a hack (at the usual sites) and even posted a few threads here about how SDTV support got Steve'd.
Last night, however, as I was trying to explain to a friend what I needed, it occurred to me that I could probably just alter the dimensions of podcasts and TV shows and my movies so they play with the proper aspect ratio. Everything was about 25% too tall; what would happen if I just saved a copy of the video with dimensions that were altered accordingly?
I opened an H264 in QT Player Pro, did a Command-J to open the properties window, clicked on the video track, unchecked the "preserve aspect ratio" checkbox, and reduced the height of the video by 25% (but kept to the "rule of 16's" by using the closest multiple of 16). I then "saved as" to a different name. This permitted me to keep my videos in the proper aspect ratio for my iPod (which plays on SDTVs perfectly) but could drop the altered videos into iTunes where they could be streamed to my tv.
Moment of truth: Yes! It works! All content modified in this manner now plays perfectly; 4:3 content fills the SD screen and widescreen content is letterboxed with the proper aspect ratio.
I'm crafting an AppleScript to automate this process and should have it ready next weekend. Wow! Now I don't have to spend $800 for an HDTV (that won't even fit on the shelf).

    Hi there,
Let me preface this by saying I'm in no way a Windows RT expert.  But, I do know it is a topic that support content is being created for within HP.
Here is a document that I hope will help:

  • Interactive Reports - Database Hack for sharing developer saved reports

Just this morning I posted to another thread about not being able to create and save multiple reports, but after a bit of database hacking, I've got it working in version 3.1.2.
I take no responsibility in anything that may happen to your APEX install because of what I am about to tell you.  If you try this, you do so at your own risk.
That's right, you CAN create multiple default views for your users.
    Background:
    <ul><li>     I created 1 interactive report.</li>
<li>     I added criteria and saved the report with the name Report1.</li>
<li>I modified the criteria and saved the report with a new name 3 additional times.</li>
<li>I am now seeing 5 tabs
    <ul><li>Working Report</li>
    <li>Report1</li>
    <li>Report2</li>
    <li>Report3</li>
    <li>Report4</li>
    </ul>
    </li>
<li>At this point, other users can not see the reports because they are private to me.</li>
    </ul>
So, how can I make these reports public to other users?
<ul><li>Logon to your APEX database as a user that has privileges to select and update the WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_RPTS table.</li>
<li>Browse the table and find the 4 rows of the new reports that were created above.</li>
    <li>Set the SESSION_ID and BASE_REPORT_ID columns to NULL</li>
    <li>Set the APPLICTION_USER column to 'APXWS_DEFAULT'</li>
<li>Set the STATUS column to 'PUBLIC'</li>
    <li>Set the IS_DEFAULT column to 'Y'</li>
    </ul>
It seems to be the combination of APPLICATION_USER and IS_DEFAULT that really makes it work, but I set the other fields to make them look like the row for the working report.
So, now after making these changes, I had two other users login to the site and look at the interactive report, and viola, 5 default tabbed reports!
    Hope this helps someone!!!
    Kris

    Hello,
Just to stress, that the moment you do direct modifications to WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_RPTS (or indeed any 'internal' table) via this non-supported route you are probably making your APEX installation non-supported by Oracle (hopefully someone from Oracle can speaking officially on that).
Even if your update works today, tomorrow, in a months time, you have still done something that you were not supposed to do.
So, do you really want to do that in production?
    Just playing Devils Advocate.

  • OutputLabel and line breaks doesn't work - Is there a hack for JSF1.2?

    Hello,
I use JSF 1.2 and Facelets to generate a form automatically. This works so far well. But if I have a label with line breaks, JSF does not convert the line breaks into
tags. Is there a hack to convert line breaks into
     tags?
    A little example
    Code:
    <h:outputLabel value="#{component.label}" for="#{component.id}" />
    <h:inputText value="#{component.value}" id="#{component.id}" />component.label = First Line\nSecond Line
    component.value = "UserInput"
    This is rendered to:
    First Line Second Line      [UserInput]
    Instead of:
    First Line        [UserInput]
Second Line One possible solution is to disable escape. But this is a bad solution because there are umlauts and angle brackets (<,>) in some texts for my labels. Does anyone know a better solution?
    Regards
    Martin

    Hi Raymond,
thanks for your tip. It is a very good idea. But while testing I have found a little problem. with "pre". JSF renders labels like this:
<label> <---- notice this line break
Text</label>All labels start with a line break in the HTML code. So all labels start with a line break in the browser too if I use CSS with the "pre" option :(

  • OpenGL xscreensaver hacks for Solaris 10

Okay, kind of a silly question... I'm trying to set up a machine to demo Solaris 10 x86 on a Sun Opteron w2100z, and one of the easier ways to attract attention to the machine would be to run GL screensavers. I've successfully installed the nVidia drivers, but I've discovered that the executables for the GL screensavers (atlantis, glplanet, glsnake, etc.) are not present in /usr/openwin/lib/xscreensaver/hacks. Are these executables somewhere on the Solaris 10 x86 media, and I just missed installing them? Or do I need to download them from somewhere, and if so, where? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know the direct answer to your question, but I can tell you the performance will be poor on your W2100z [as it was on mine] without the following patch:
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/25071
That workaround is a few months old, and it may have been in a smpatch update, I don't know. But if your performance isn't AGP, use the patch at the link above.
Also, if you join the group at the above link, there are some very talented Solaris graphics guys in that group, John Martin being one.

  • Arrows hack for mountain lion?

Is there a hack to get arrows back?
fatter scrollbars are better to grab hold of, but precision is preferred.

    Hi anyfors,
I understand where you are coming from, but I am not aware of an utility that may return the scrolling arrows. Not saying there isn't anything out there though.
So what type of mouse are you using now?
A couple of things you might be able to try that also may be better for you egonomically as well as functionally.
Apple Magic Mouse - I have only used one a little myself, but on it, the one finger scrolling gesture seems to work quite well, for both up and down and across the page. This I guess also depends on what application you are using that you require the scrolling for, or basically how well the app developer supports the scrolling gestures in ML. With this one fingure gesture, for example in Safari, you don't need the scroll bars at all. You just scroll with one finger where ever the cursor is on the screen and the page will scroll. You can get that very accurate, depending on the scrolling  speed you have set it for.
    See here
Another solution for you, and this is where the ergonomics will come in too, is a trackball type mouse, where there the is a ball you roll, either with a finger, thumb or hand, depending on the type. This type again, should allow you to ignore the scroll bars completely and should give you very high accuracy. I know a few people at my work use these in various forms, and they all agree that if yo find the type that is suitable for your needs, they are brilliant.
