My account password was changed out of the blue the other day. I've had this skype account for years. I'm pretty sure when I signed up for it, I either didn't use an email address or used a very very old one. Either way, I can't recover my account. I have contacted customer service three times now going through the very tedious verification form to which they have all sent me back to and I still can't win.
I need to know the email address my skype account is tied to, first of all. The verification form asks me specifically to list what email address I used and I just don't know. Customer service has been no help on that.
Then I need to figure out how to recover my account so that I can fix this mess and ensure I set up an email address I'm sure I'll remember and some extra security as I don't want to put myself through this again.
Can someone please recommend something I may be overlooking? I have no idea what to do at this point. I won't put my original skype name as I believe that's against the rules.
Sorry as sometimes the account recovery process takes time, mostly because they have to verify that the person filing the claim is the actual account owner. You can also try the "Compromised Account Recovery" instructions located on the page below, hopefully that helps.

I have just noticed that the email under system preferences for iCloud is an old one that does not exist anymore. How do I change this? Can you also tell me if I delete this account - will it affect what I have stored on the computer e.g. what is in my photos etc? Thanks for any assistance.You can change the (non-Apple) email address which forms your Apple ID to another one at http://appleid.apple.com. If you are going to do this you should follow this procedure to avoid problems:
Firstly, if you have 'Find My iPhone/iPad/iMac' enabled on any of your devices, turn it off.
Create a new email address, for example at Yahoo or Gmail, or anywhere convenient (or you can use an existing address as long as it has never been associated with an Apple ID).
Go to http://appleid.apple.com and click 'Manage your Apple ID'. Sign in with the current ID.
Where it says 'Apple ID and primary email address' and gives your current ID email address, click 'edit'.
Enter your new address and click 'Save changes'.
Now you will need to go to each of your devices and sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud - 'Sign out' on a Mac, 'Delete this account' on an iOS device (this will not delete the account from the server).
Then sign back in with your new ID. Your iCloud data will disappear from your devices when you sign out, but reappear when you sign back in (give it time).
I re-iterate: before you start, turn off 'Find My Mac' (or whatever) or you will need the services of Support. -

This morning my iPhone was stolen from me, I immediately called it and it had been turned off. So, I went right home to activate the Find My iPhone app on the website so it would call my other contact number. Then going to my AT&T store I was told to go home and submit an insurance claim. Later this evening, I tried to access my iCloud account and I couldn't. Finally, I found an series of emails from Apple at 5:15pm and on verifying my Find My iPhone activation had been disabled and that my iCloud ID had been changed to *********. I don't know who the heck this person is, but they've managed to deactivate the Find feature and hack my iCloud ID email address. How can this happen? How do I get Apple and Gmail to prosecute this person? I still don't know the full extent of what has been hacked into. Does anyone have any helpful insight? Thanks

The first problem appears to me to be a screen drawing problem, ie software glitch. Has this been repeated or did it occur just once? It could be caused by a temporary shortage of memory - if a once only.
The second problem might be a display problem. I presume the bluish tint is in the same location and shape each time. Is your computer still under warranty? If so I would think this could be a warranty repair claim. I had a display replaced under warranty that had bright patches on it. If it is under warranty I would contact Apple Support and send them the images for their response.

Check your mail preferences. The example below is from the mail app that comes with mac. In my case I'm using yahoo mail which is a POP3 account. POP stands for post office protocol which is the set of rules used by a POP mail account to transfer mail. You can learn more about it here if interested. If the box below is checked, all the mail will be downloaded to your computer when you check your mail using the built in mail app and removed from the mail server. Here is another page to help you set up your hotmail account for use the the mac mail application. Hope this clears things up.

I upgraded from iPhone 4 to a 5 and my emails have duplicated. Those I received and read on my Mac this morning have come in again and show unread so I have 2 of all of them. Any idea what setting is causing this? Thanks.
You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

While watching an iTunes movie from my Apple TV, why does my movie stop playing at the 1 hour mark? I'm assuming I have a setting causing this to happen, but I have no idea what setting needs to be changed. Can someone help me?
It's right at an hour (consistently), but the computer goes to sleep prior to that. It's as if iTunes goes to sleep. Also, it wasn't always this way. Originally, the movies played through without interruption. At some point, I guess a setting was changed, and now I only get an hour. Also. My energy settings are set to go to sleep at 10 minutes.

I have an email account causes the machine to hang up after being in use for a day. It only occurs on my Macbook Pro and only one particular account. The problem account works fine on my iMac and Windows Machines. I have been to the local Genius bar and through trial and error we have determined that Mail is working ok but somehow the account is causing the problem. I have used this account for years. Any ideas what is causing this?
No idea why, but one thing you may try if you have the time, is create a new user, and set up the problem mail account in the new user space. See if it causes your MBP to hang as well. That will tell you if it is something wrong with your main User, or something wrong with MBP.
Assuming this works, I'd nuke the problem account in your main user space, re-start, and reinititate the account and see if that helps.
Depening on how many email accounts you have setup, it may be necessary to nuke the whole Mail folder in your User/Library.... Hard way to get it to work, but just my idea. -
I am having trouble exporting .raw files from my Mac Book Air to an external storage device. Even though I am exporting as "original" they are being exported as jpegs. Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong?
Using the "original" setting is the correct way to do it. Select on of the photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option. That will take you to the file inside the library via the Finder. Confirm that what you see if the raw file.
If it is then try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

Years and years ago I first started with firefox sync. I have no idea what the password is. Nor do I remember the email address I was using at the time. I now have a new computer and can't set up the firefox sync. I can not be the only person to have had this problem.
Unless you remember your "Username" (Not Email) then the only option I'm aware of is to Create a new account

The whole point of Firefox Sync is to save/access data between different devices - Your Username should be listed on one of your Devices, unless you just happen to replace all of them at the same time.
If you could gain access to an account w/ atleast knowing the Username/Email Address/Password then what would be the point of "Security"

An email sent from my iMac has a button linked to a clip hosted on Vimeo. When received, the link functions on iMac and iPad, but opens a window of app icons on iPhone and iPod touch. Any ideas what's wrong?
For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions. -
