Hacker issues/restore to be rid.

Please excuse the fact that I dare say this is a repeat of another discussion. I have trawled and couldn't find what I needed. Please also excuse my ignorance in the matter to follow.
I own a Mac Book Pro, iPad 2, iPhone 4s, 2 Sony Vaios and Compaq PC. I recently obtained through no desire of my own, a stalker/imposter/hacker. He hacked my Pc and Vaios, and that was dealt with (we found a keylogger and a virus that allowed the hacker to monitor my screen as I did). However, I was told that my Mac would be safe. It turns out, it's not. I was using my Mac to update my passwords, and found that my hacker instantly had access to my accounts again. I was told that I obviously have a keylogger on my Mac. Also, my camera and capture image keeps being used without my input. I went to my local Apple shop, only to be told the best way to deal with it all was to wipe and restore the machine.
That's great, however I have a few issues with that. 1.. I need to find what exactly is on the machine, so I can keep a record for legal process I will initate once I have found said hacker (I have to issue court orders to social networking sites to obtain his IP - despite him trying to hide it on sites that I work on) I have no idea on what is best for Macs to find such things as keyloggers, as I was always led to believe that most anti-virsus don't pick them up.
2. I have absoutely no idea on how to back up my itunes to my external hard drive, because every time I try too, I get a symbol stating I cannot! And finally, 3.. I have no idea on how to restore my laptop.
I really am at a loss of what to do. Can anyone help, please?

There have been conflicting reports on how iOS 8 works on the 4S. You can try getting rid of other by removing all content from your phone and by removing your music, etc. through a sync. Then sync that content back. A lot of other comes from problems with music syncing, issues with a lot of mail in an account, and data that does not fit in regular categories. However, the best method to clean the device the best you can is to restore.
The way to get rid of "other" is not to update, it is to restore. However, if you restore and are not using the latest iOS for your device, then you will be updating, yes.

Restore (and reset password) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:

If you use a system restore then you have the risk that not all files are reverted to previous versions and you most likely have corrupted your Firefox installation.<br />
You will have to do a clean reinstall of Firefox and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).<br />

  • Sql 2008 Issue restoring transaction logs....

** Update: I performed the same steps on the corresponding Dev and things worked as expected. Only  our prod environment uses SnapManager for Sql (NetApp) and I'm beginning to suspect that may be behind this issue
Restored a full backup of the prod MyDB from 1/23/2014 in non-operational mode (so trans logs can be added). Planned to apply trans log dumps from 1/24/2014, 7am (our first of the day) to noon. But applying the 7am trans dump gave this error:
    >>>>>
Restore Failed for this Server... the Log in this backup set begins at....which is too recent to apply to the database. An earlier log backup that includes LSN....can be restored.
    >>>>>
That message is clear but I don't understand it in this case as the full DB dump was taken Thursday night and the tran logs I am trying to restore are all from Friday.
    TIA,
    edm2

    ** Update 2 **
I kept checking and am now definitely think that the NetApp SnapManager for Sql product (which is a storage based, not sql based, approach to DR) is the culprit. My view of the world was that a Full Sql Database backup is performed at 7pm and the
Sql translogs are dumped every hour beginning at 7:15am the next day.  This extract from the SnapManager log indicates quite a different story. It takes a full database backup at 11pm (!) that night followed by a translog backup.
No wonder, when I try to restoring things using Sql utilities it doesn't work. BTW: I have no idea where SnapManager's dumps are stored.

Sorry I wasn't clearer. The Full database backups was taken on 1/23/2014 at 7pm. The trans logs I was trying to restore were from the next day (starting 1/24/2014 at 7:15am, 8:15am, etc.).   I could not find any Sql translog dumps taken after
the full backup (at 7pm) until the next morning's  trans dumps (which start at 7:15am). Here is what I did:

Regarding my update note,  the SnapManager for SQL product (which I was tolds simply uses VSS) runs every hour throughout the night. That's why I wondering if it could be interfering with the transaction log sequence.

  • My email storage shows 13.3 GB used but I only have about 20 emails in my mailbox with no attachments.  Do I need to back up, delete everything and restore to get rid of the cache?

My email storage show 13.3GB used but I only have about 20 emails in my inbox with no attachments.  I assume it's memory cache that's clogging my phone.  Do I need to backup and restore to get rid of all of it??

There is nothing wrong with the OS update.
    Delete ALL your email accounts.
    Restart Playbook
Put the accounts back and ensure they are all set with PUSH ON.  Manual (push off) will burn battery.
Similarly delete your wifi connections and add back when required.
Turn off wifi is not connected to wifi.
Any "hunting for connection" in email or wifi will burn up battery.

  • Tried doing restore to get rid of "Other" Space, Error 3194, No Joy

I've read for a few days now and tried almost everything, to try to get rid of the dreaded "Other" Space.
See attached photo, 7.6 gigs on my 14 gig iphone 4s.
I downloaded my IOS version, and tried to restore as new as well , I believe, to the same IOS as I have now 7.0.4 but I get the error 3194. I do the hosts files thing to add and remove the gs.apple.com or whatever ip and domain name it is.
I've also tried just doing a restore. several times. I've gotten iFunbox and navigated and looked for stuff. I got PhoneClean and cleaned out the phone, it helps SOME but it still have 7.6 gigs of "Other" I don't want to update to 8, I hear it's not meant for the 4s.
any help to get me to be able to restore the IOS to the same version and clean the other space, would be much appreciated.

    Hi! Welcome to the forums.
Im sorry to hear you're having issues with your BBM.
Try doing a hard reset first (while the device is turned on, remove the battery and sim, put it back after 1-3 minutes)
Try opening bbm again and make sure you have sufficient connection.
If that doesn't solve the problem, i suggest to delete BBM and downloasd it again on BlackBerry World.
    Good luck. Keep us posted

  • Time Machine issues, restoring from iPhoto '09

I have a mid 2010 15" MBP which has been a trusty steed up until October 2014, where the logic board failed. I did the depot repair, and I mistakenly reset my Time Machine as well since I somehow forgot the password and started, I think, a new network and data.
I just started to look at ways to restore my old files that I had backed up with my Time Machine pre-October 2014. I browsed and browsed websites and forums, but no matter what, I was stuck with the new backup starting from October 2014.
Last night, I used Migration Assistant (I know, why didn't I use that first?) and success, I was able to access my files I had backed up to Time Machine before my logic board failed. But here's the issue. Somehow, my photos cannot be found. I did update the iPhoto to the newest version, but I cannot find the old iPhoto library pre-October 2014. I even went into Time Machine, but for some reason, it goes back to the post-October 2014 backup, even though I migrated everything from the pre-October 2014 backup. I know it sounds confusing, but I should have everything from the pre-October 2014 backup if I did Migration Assistant and every files seems accounted for.
I guess if anyone could help me find the iPhoto library, that'll be great. Under Pictures, there is an iPhoto library icon, but it is grayed out. Hope this is helpful. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

If this helps, if I manually type in the file name of the images in Finder, I can only access the thumbnails. Is this a good thing?

  • Hack to restore the option to play in Finder window?

I know the Finder no longer has the option to play a song or movie within the window (truly within). It was a super-cool option in OS 10.4.11 and before. Now all I have is "QuickLook" that only plays when the chosen Finder window is front. I can no longer go to a different Finder window or glance at a web page, because that cancels the playing of QuickLook. Does anyone know of a hack that can restore the "play QuickTime type media file in background from a Finder window" process?
If this got too difficult for the newbies, don't fret. This is a feature you may never have seen if you haven't owned a pre-Leopard Mac.

Try logging out, then back in or restart your machine.

  • Issues restoring iphone from icloud

    Hi,
Every time I try to restore my iphone from icloud it says, "unable to back up from icloude because wireless connection interrupted".  My phone is plugged in and connected to wi-fi...I also tried having my iphone plugged into my computer while backing up.  Neither worked.  What do I do?
    Thanks.

Is your iPhone have a strong Wi-Fi connection? Have you tried testing on another Wi-Fi network?
Take a look at this Apple document -> iCloud: Troubleshooting restore issues with iCloud Backup
    Troubleshooting issues during a restore
If you receive an alert during the restore, be sure to note the text of the message, and cross reference it in the Alert Message matrix in the fifth major section of this article.
Keep in mind that restoring is dependent on being connected to the Internet, so the faster your connection, the faster your restore will be. However, even with a fast broadband connection, it can often take around 1-4 hours per gigabyte to complete a foreground and background restore. If you are traveling between countries, you may need to allocate even more time. iCloud is tuned to provide you with the best service in the geographical location you most frequently connect from, and in regards to iCloud Backup, the geographical region you created the original backups from.
If you receive connection errors, or timeouts, while restoring, you should verify your device has a valid connection to a fast Wi-Fi network and that it's plugged into a power source. Then, let it work. A good way to do this is to start the restore an hour or two before you go to sleep. That way, you can input any needed information after the iOS device restarts and the background restore starts, but you will be less likely to use the phone during the background restore. This will allow it to proceed without interruption. Background restore is designed to allow you to use your phone normally, but if you are getting errors, or having trouble completing the restore, it's best to avoid any possible network interruptions and maximize the resources the iOS device can allocate to the restore process, by allowing it to work uninterrupted. Of course, you can check the status of the recovery by unlocking the screen or by reviewing the progress of downloaded applications or Camera Roll content, but in an error-prone situation, it's best to avoid doing work and launching apps unrelated to the restore process.
As noted earlier, you will receive prompts for your Apple ID and other passwords. This is normal. When you are restoring to a device that you have already backed up from, you should receive fewer prompts to re-enter passwords, but if you are restoring to a new device, it is expected that you will have to re-enter your passwords again. This is done to preserve the integrity of your accounts.

  • Issues restoring/connecting Shuffle with PGP installed

It seems like Apple registered my iPod Shuffle that I bought today back in December (huh?), so I can't use the chat to contact the Apple staff regarding this issue (and no, I don't have a fax, don't even have a fixed phone line). Still, this might be relevant for others.
Just home with a shiny new Shuffle, connecting it, updating it and messing around with it. Tried the Restore function, and that was obviously something I shouldn't have done...
I've got a trial of PGP 9.5.x installed and it seems like it messed something up. After I use the Restore function in iTunes or the separate iPod Reset Utility to reset, format and restore the iPod, it isn't recognized by the OS/iTunes anymore.
After quite a few moments of research, I found out that after the iTunes Restore/iPod Reset Utility, the partition scheme for the Shuffle became pgpwdeMBR_Diskscheme, which obviously must have something to do with PGP's Whole Disk Encryption functionality. And as long as the partition scheme was wrong, iTunes thought the file system was corrupt and it seems there was nothing that could be done to correct it.
The only way I got around this, was to connect the iPod to a PC with Windows XP and run the iPod Reset Utility on there. So now I got a FAT formatted Shuffle, but at least it is recognized on the Mac.
I suppose I could have uninstalled PGP and hoped that whatever got messed up got restored. But, this is an extremely annoying bug and it seems like Apple need to do serious updating on the iPod Reset Utility which in my opinion should be a solid maintenance tool.

Well, it somehow looks different now. When mounted, its name is all capitals for example.

  • There are unauthorised emails being sent from my emails accounts. This started recently following my iOS update to 5.0.1. Is this an iCloud hacking issue?

There appears to be emails being sent out to random contacts from my shared address book with dubious content none of which were sent by me. I believe this was sent by unauthorised hacker from iCloud as the contacts are not even in my personal contact list, but came from my wife's contact list which have been shared via iCloud. Is there security breach issue with iCloud?

I have the same situation (there seems to be lots of emails sent through my Icloud account. I don't see those emails in my "sent" folder, but I can see plenty of email (Chinese spam emails) bounced back into my account stating that I have exceded the sending limits. I cannot send anything either from my account (of course, the sending limit is alwasy exceeded). I have also changed twice my password, but the issue remains.
    Any clues?
I am really surprised at this. I was from the begining with .Mac, and never had any issue during all these years. This is now with Icloud, which should be safer and better  :-(
