Hacking: Dashboard and World Clock widget

The "World Clock" seems to be a misnomer for the lack of cities/timezones it has. In the past, I have hacked the clock, under 10.4, following the directions: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050430193250534 I try to do the same in 10.6.1, but when I open WorldClock.js, I notice there's a new field "id". From the head of the file, it looks like some sort of "geoID". Anyone know what this number represents? Where to find others?

Figured it out - it's a standardized Geoname: www.geonames.org

  • World Clock widget in Dashboard - missing hands

Prior to Daylight Saving Time (South Australia) all clock hands [hour, minute etc.] on the world clock widget in the Dashboard were visible.
However, the day after the introduction of Daylight Saving Time the clock hands had gone. I've heard of people who believe that curtains fade due to DST, but clock hands? :-)))
I downloaded another world clock ('Stationsklok') but that was also minus the clock hands. The same was done with a digital clock widget ('Flip Clock') and the numerals were missing.
I removed the original world clock and replaced it with another - no luck. Trashing the world clock plist files has not brought any luck either.
Can anyone suggest anything else that I can try?

  • World Clock Widget appears on my Desktop

My world clock widget appears on my desktop. I can't get it off the desktop. It should be apprearing with the rest of the widgets when I call for the widget's screen. I have rebooted my machine...still there. I went into the widget's window tried to X it and I can't.
    Help...
    Thanks, =bill

    Glad it worked.
By default widgets do not work on the desktop. Some utilities allow you to do that, alternatively Terminal voodoo can be used.
    *defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES*
    Turns widget on desktop on,
    *defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode NO*
    off.

  • World Clock widget bug

I noticed that the cooling fan on my PB G4 was running more or less continuously and that the case was very hot. This is quite unusual. I opened Actifvity Monitor and found that my CPU was at 85% activity while the computer was idle. I traced it to the World Clock widget in the Processes window, and solved the problem by deleting the Clock. The CPU dropped to 12% instantly and the problem has not recurred.

    Hello Edub87
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The World Clock widget should display the same time as the iMac.
Go to: *Apple > System Preferences > Date & Time*
    1. Select the *Date & Time* tab > check the box for *Set date & time automatically* > make sure that *Apple Americas/U.S. (time.apple.com)* is chosen.
    2. Then before closing the Preference panel for *Date & Time* > select the *Time Zone* tab and make sure that *Los Angeles - U.S.A.* is selected.
Now check your World Clock widget?

  • Cannot add/remove clocks in Notification Center's World Clock widget.

I was trying to reverse-engineer the somewhat cryptic white/black clock face in the new World Clock widget in Yosemite's Notification Center. (It turns out that is the clock face color is white when the time is in the range 06:00 to 18:00, and black when the time is 18:00 to 06:00.) While doing this, I added new time zones by adding new clocks. After adding the eigth clock, however, I lost the ability to add or remove clocks, so now I'm stuck at eight.
I looked around ~/Library/Preferences, but could only find com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist, which governs the placement of the widgets, not their actual configuration. Seems like a bug I'll have to live with for now.
Would love to hear about a way to patch this bug (configuration file somewhere), or work around it through other means.

Oif. I just discovered that the ⓘ icon in the upper right is actually a configuration icon, and not an information icon. You need to hit that to enable the add/remove buttons for changing the selection of cities.

  • World Clock Widget Error!

I have the world clock widget included with mac os x set up to show the time in perth, australia but it is displaying the time an hour slow ... western australia recently introduced daylight saving time so put their clocks forwards, however the widget still shows the time before it was changed, any ideas who i should contact about this!?
    (you can check i'm right here ... http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=196 )

The latest set of automatic updates from Apple has fixed this problem.

  • Issues with World Clock widget in Notification Center

The widget is inconsistent when showing the correct time for foreign locations. Right now it's showing the time in Perth as 5pm when it's actually 5am. The times in London and Paris are correct. Is anyone else having this issue?

I don't even see AM or PM in the World Clock -- only an analog 12-hour dial.  It's not adequate.  A world clock ought to display either AM/PM or 24-hour time (should be a configurable preference) and also the date.

  • Time and Date - Clock Widget missing from home scr...

What is the solution for missing clock widget from home screen after Anna update from Nokia Care !!!
Reinstalled from Nokia Suite, still clock missing - any solution.

Depress your home screen and wait for the 'Edit' menu to appear, tap an empty widget box (Plus sign) to open your widget catalogue, scroll down to the bottom of the catalogue and select a widget called Time and Profile, this should do it...... Unless if it's missing from the catalogue itself.

  • Lock screen and world clock show 24hr time, with date & time set to 12hr..

I gave my old iPhone 3GS to my wife after turning the 24hr time to off in in date & time settings but the lock screen and the world clock still display the 24hr time format (everything else is 12hr). I've tried rebooting, rebooting and leaving off for an extended time, switching 12/24 toggle back and forth in date & time settings, and deleting all locations in the world clock but the 24hr format stubbornly remains. The 24hr time confuses my wife so want times to display in the 12hr format.

I am having a similar problem with my iphone. i am in New Zeland, i have the date and time set correctly but in the world clock it is about 18 hours out. the wolrd clock for San Franciso agrees to my local time. i have tried different time zones and having the the automatic time setting on and off. i have also rebooted the iphone. any suggestions?

  • How do I upload a widget to the online apple dashboard and share my widget with everyone around the world?

I work for a company that has developed a widget that will be really helpful for lots of people to look up information. I would like to add it to the Apple Dashboard so anyone can download it. How do I do this?

as I explicitly wrote in my first post:
of course my iPhone is already synced to the same computer!
I wanted to add a movie on my iPhone today on the same computer and through the same iTunes that I already synced my iPhone with and when I wanted to upload the movie onto the phone it told me that I am now using a different library and that everything on my phone will be deleted. I also tried to do it manually because I don't want to waste time by backing up the phone, erasing everything from it and then putting it back onto the phone, and iTunes told me the same thing: that I am using a different library etc etc.
the other day I wanted to put a new ringtone on my iPhone and iTunes did exactly the same thing!
how can I be using a different library on the SAME COMPUTER and on the SAME iTunes for different things that I want to put on my iphone?
    another thing:
if using iTunes indeed were as simple and as easy as you say it is, then there wouldn't be as many complaints about it as there are. also: calling someone ignorant just because they don't want to be bothered by the restrictions, complications and unfriendliness of iTunes is pretty lame!

  • We want "screen lock" and "world clock"

Come on Apple, lets have the new firmware for our full size colour pods. The screen lock is what the iPods have needed from day one. I was always a bit scared of having phones numbers and addresses in it in case it got stolen.
Please, please, please do the features for us. you know it make sense

I cannot agree with your comments that apple always listen to users suggestions.
For the past three months on this forum people have been asking for a fix to the problem caused by the update released in June this year that stopped your iPod from updating your ratings on the fly. Before you could change a track from say three stars to five and it would move to that Smart playlist automatically without having to be connected to your compute or iTunes.
Now it only works if you are connected to ITunes which of no blooming use at all if you are away on holiday etc.
No, they could have easily rectified or looked into, but instead they stayed silent, and completely bypassed the problem.
I wont by another product from Apple if thats how they treat you. After all, apple made quite a big thing about that feature originally, thats partly why I bought the Ipod over another make, not for its looks.

  • Widgets world clock can't change country when I update to Mountain Lion

    Hello everyone,
When I update to Mountain Lion (from Lion), the widgets world clock can't change other country (the clock can't show the information button).
Is this a bug ? Do you have the same problem ?
My mac is Macbook Pro (2011 Later)
    Thanks

I had the same problem. It looks I was able to fix this using the steps below:
    1. Make sure you have a current backup, such as a Time Machine backup!
    2. Go into Dashboard and close the World Clock widget(s).
    3. Rename or trash the file:
    ~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.worldclock.plist
I'm not sure if it's needed but I also deleted:
    ~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.worldclock.plist.lockfile
    4. Open Terminal and type the following command (case-sensitive): killall Dock
    See if that works.

  • Dashboard world clock issue

Since ML I can't add any standard world clock widget to my dashboard other than automatically set up to my local time.
Any one wit same issue ?
    Any Ideas ?
    Jean.

    I finally called Apple Care.
The solution is to delete the corrupted plist file named "widget-com.apple.widget.worldclock.plist"
in the preferences folder in your user library
Restart the computer, a new file is created and you can make your dashboard clock widget settings as usual.

  • Broken Clock Widget in Dashboard

    I have this tiny problem i can't seem to shake off;
Since the previous version any world clock widget i add to my dashboard is broken, the pointers are way off and i don't get the info icon in the right bottom. I thought updating to Yosemite might help but no luck, is there anything i can do. Since my partner has an office in NY & LA it was a feature i used daily, and now miss often when planning online meetings.
    Kind Regards,

  • From where can I download the original Dashboard World Clock for OS 10.6.8? Mine's not working

    Hi there,
I'm not sure what happened but my Dashboard World Clock doesn't work anymore. I had taken it off my dashboard along with other widgets when I was trying to speed up my computer. I then added the same widgets back to the dashboard except the World Clock no longer showed up in the widgets list. The other widgets were all fine.
I can see the World Clock widget file in my widgets folder in Library but it won't show up anywhere on the dashboard so I'd like to download a new file to see if that helps.
    Thanks!

There are multiple world clock dashboard widgets available.
See if you can find the one for the image you posted >   Apple - Downloads - Dashboard
The glitch may be that the one want has been updated to a newer user interface.
