Had 1800 songs on ipod, connected to computer and all songs are deleted??
I had 1800 songs on my ipod, a friend downloaded them onto it for me. I was installing the itunes disc and plugged the ipod into the computer at the same time and now can not find the songs anywhere... Where did they go, I thought if they weren't on the ipod anymore that they've got to be on my computer somewhere, but I can not find any of them. If anyone knows what I've done please help...

Actually, copying music from your friends really falls under Fair Use.
If you apply the four fair use tests:
1. the purpose and character of the use is not for profit (for)
2. the work is published, but creative (against)
3. the amount is probably only certain songs off the album (for)
4. the effect on the market is small (person to person copying is considered to be a minimal effect on the marketplace, whereas sharing with the entire internet is not) (for)
So really, copying your friends music really passes most of the fair use tests. It might be technically illegal, but it's not a case where anybody could actually sue you and win.
Copyright infringement is allowed in certain cases.

Transfer Songs from Ipod to New Computer and New Itunes Installation
Hi,
I want to transfer songs on my Ipod to a new installation of Itunes on a new computer. I get a message that my Ipod is synced to another library and that I can only be synced to one library and that my ipod will be erased and synced to the currently libary. The problem is my current library is empty since it's a new itunes installtion and I don't want to erase my ipod and delete all my songs.
So how do I transfer songs from my ipod to the new itunes installation on my new computer?
Thanks for any replies.I think I've read in a post before that you can't do it that way. That you can only transfer music from the computer to the iPod, and not the other way around. I believe they suggested backing up your library (to disk, I guess) and installing it on the new computer. Something like that. It seems silly that the transfer only works one way, but there you are.

What computer OS are you using? Do you have the latest version of iTunes (v11.1)? There has got to be a reason for the disconnect in the music syncing. I would recommend resetting the sync history. If you are in Windows, go to Edit, Preferences, Devices, and there is a button there. Now, with the phone connected to iTunes and the phone selected in the Device pane, you go to the Summary page and down towards the bottom of the page, there is a Reset Warnings box. After doing that, try to sync music again. If there is a problem, with the warnings reset, it should show up if there is one.

I plugged my ipod into my computer and all my music disappeared
I'm not sure what happened but I plugged my ipod into my computer to have the new music loaded onto it and it took all my old music off. It also wont allow me to even put the music on my computer onto my ipod. I didnt change the settings on anything, all I did was upgrade to the new itunes on my computer as well as buy new music. Someone please help me get my music back!

why can't i transfer all songs on my ipod to my computer and then to my new ipad? i keep getting a message saying that about half of the files couldn't be found, and only about 1/2 of the songs went to the ipad when i first synced. the files must be on the ipod, because i can play all 448 from the ipod when disconnected from the computer. and all songs show up on my devices at itunes and can be played on the computer. but only about 1/2 are going to the ipad. i am no tech genius, obviously, but could someone please help me? thanks
Apple does not support transferring files from the device to the computer if they are third party. It is great that you were able to transfer the ones you did. There is a way to do it but it sounds like you already did it because if not half of them would not come over. The files can probably not be found because they are third party and the files are not compatible with the transfer process.

New Nano - Can I merely plug in and all songs will update?
I have upgraded from an IPOD mini to an IPOD nano. Am I able to plug into my computer and all songs on my ITUNES will download to the new IPOD? If not, how do I set up my new NANO as the IPOD for my computer?

i had 300 odd songs on. i do not have the songs on my laptop. i wanted to add the songs without getting rid of the currnet ones.
without knowing , i just synced my ipod as usuall and my old songs were deleted. is there anyway in the world i could get those songs back ?!

hannah xThe iPod is not a storage device, all songs should reside on a computer and you can only sync to one machine. However, if these songs were purchased from iTunes you can reload them (see link). If not, and you have no backup, then they are gone.

One last thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to a different computer with an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Whichever of method you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. Bought new computer, Won't let me transfer songs from Ipod to new computer?
Is this possible? I have several hundred songs on my Ipod/other computer (desktop). I bought a new Dell laptop and I was hoping I could transfer all the songs on my new computer. It did let me transfer the songs that were purchsed through Itunes but not the others that I downloaded from CD's. When I connect the Ipod to the new computer it shows no songs on it.

Is it possible to transfer songs on iPod to a computer that already has an iTunes profile for someone else? I recently had my laptop stolen so I no longer have iTunes backed up on a computer.

Songs disappear without connecting to computer
Help...I was using my IPS today and paused the playback when I got up from my desk for a meeting. I came back 30 minutes later and all my songs are gone. Battery is charged (green). IPS was not connected to laptop, so this doesn't appear to be an iTunes import/export issue...I don't think...but I have to go and add everything back again. If I have to re-import all my songs every month, what's the use?
Please help, this is the second time this has happened. The first time all but 15 songs disappeared. This time they're all gone.

I had an HP laptop with Itunes on it and kept my library on an external hard drive. I had a 160gb classic Ipod.
My computer died and i am buying a new one (mac is out of budget)
When I get my new computer, obviously I will download Itunes. My Ipod still has all the music on it and the external hard drive is ok.
I don't want to "erase" or lose any information when I sync with a new itunes that is "empty"
What are the steps? After I download Itunes and set the folder location to my external harddrive what is next? Will Itunes recognize my IPOD? Will it load the music/list from my ipd or external into itunes?

I want to use my IPOD Classic 160gb for notepad entries in addition to the music and books I listen to. It is set to "Open ITunes when connected to computer" and "manually manage music and videos". Settings>Store (or iTunes & App Stores if you are running iOS6)>Apple ID. Tap your son's ID and sign out. Sign in with your ID and password.
You shouldn't lose the music, but if you try to update any apps that you bought with the family ID, you will have to use that password that is linked with that ID in order to update.
Avoid downloading past purchased content with the old ID if you can since you will associate the iPad with the old ID for 90 days and you will lock yourself out of your own, new ID for that period of time. Read more about associated devices in iTunes here.
