What installed iPhoto there in the first place?  Was it the same version of iPhoto that came with the Mac?  Was iLife added at a later time from a Mac Box Set?   You can selectively install iPhoto, and then apply the appropriate iLife update without taking it to the shop, after removing the application, or recover it from your backup.

I'm getting this problem when im trying to open certain apps
    Can you please help?

I have the same issue trying to install new software: Photoshop 5.5 from a brand new external hard drive on my brand new MacBook Pro running Mavericks.
I found someone had mentioned updating Java, so I did that...said it installed properly...rebooted...tried again...same result.

  • You can't open the application "Photos" because it may be damaged or incomplete

    Hi All,
When trying to open photos after a restore I receive the error message "You can’t open the application “Photos” because it may be damaged or incomplete.
I have had a look under the application and the it is empty, the problem is I cannot seem to find it in the App store to do a re download and reinstall, any one have any ideas?.

Photos is included in the system install now so you'll need to boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and reinstall the system and, with it, Photos.  Repair disk permissions with Disk Utility after the installation.

  • Can't open the application "iTunes" because it may be damaged or incomplete

Out of the blue today, iTunes showed up with a gray X over the icon in the dock, and when I try to open it, I am told, "You can't open the application "itunes" because it may be damaged or incomplete. I've looked around for ways to reinstall or repair itunes, but only come up with solutions for PC, but nothing for mac. Thank you!

Perhaps try updating to version 11.1.5.5, using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple Website:

The message means just what it says. Remove the damaged copy and try downloading it again.
Edit: Looking at FontLab's page, there's two issues going on.
    1) It's a PowerPC app and will not run on any version of OS X newer than Snow Leopard, 10.6.x.
    2) The "workaround" they offer is to purchase the Windows version and then run it in the the open source Wine, Windows emulator.

  • Message: You can't open the application Firefox because it may be damaged or incomplete

I've been using Firefox for a long time. Today I decided to change the settings to delete my history when I closed the window. Now when I try to open up Firefox I get a continuous pinwheel. I deleted Firefox from my computer and reinstalled, but it still won't work. There's now a grey icon titled Firefox with a square and a circle and line through it. When I try to delete this icon, it won't let me, saying Firefox is still running. When I try to open the icon, I get the following message: "You can't open this application Firefox because it may be damaged or incomplete."
Any suggestions on what to do?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 27: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • Got an error message "You can't open the application iMovie because it may be damaged or incomplete"  What do I do next to try to fix?  Thanks.

I tried accessing imovie after not using it for a long time and got an error message "You can't open the application iMovie because it is damaged or incomplete. I'm not sure how to go about addressing it.  Your suggestions would be very much apprecaited.

Judging by your OSX, I presume that your iMac would have come with 2 installation discs.
iMovie and all the iLife software will be on disc 2.
Run the disc and re-install iMovie.
After that, do a software update.,
    Best,

  • You can't open the application Library because it may be damaged or incomplete

I am a newby to the support communities as a questioner though I have searched and found quite a few answers to other problems.  My problem today is the above message whenever I click on an .mp4 file in my Finder.  The files are in my iTunes Library and play just fine in iTunes.  I clicked on an .mp3 file in Finder and it took me right to iTunes and played the song. I tried the same test with a .pdf file and Adobe came up right away with the file.
This seems to have started when I noticed my new WD Book Live started prompting me that there was no valid SSL for the drive.  It only prompts me on my Mac Mini - iPhone and iPad are fine. I clicked to Trust Always for that drive and when I clicked on one of the movies, it says "No default application associated with the .mp4 file extension."  I cannot seem to find anything to do with file extensions in System Preferences or System Utilities.
    Any suggestions anyone.  Much appreciated

    Hello Brian,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with opening .mp4 files from the Finder.  It sounds like you may need to set iTunes (or an alternate application that plays .mp4 files) as the default application to open .mp4 files on your computer.
    Use these steps:
To always open a document with a specific application:
In the Finder, select the document’s icon and choose File > Get Info.
In the Info window, click the disclosure triangle next to “Open with.”
Choose the application you want to use from the pop-up menu.
If you want all documents of this file type to open with the same application, click Change All.
In step 3, be sure to select iTunes (or an alternate application that plays .mp4 files) from the Applications folder on your computer.

  • When I try to open safari, the image is different and it says "You can't open the application Safari because it may be damaged or incomplete."

The image changed on the dock and gave me the error message when I tried to open it. I dragged the one on the dock to the trash and tried dragging the icon back to the dock to put it back. It still wouldnt open. I tried opening it from the "applications" tab in finder and it gave the error message. Additionally, I have tried "Repair Disk Permissions" on disk utility.

Make a temporary copy of the Safari application by dragging it from the Applications folder to the Desktop. Can you launch the copy? After trying, delete the copy -- don't leave it on the Desktop. If the copy launches, try the original again.

  • Can't open the application "(null)" because it may be damaged or incomplete?

Unable to get my Canon 8800F Scanner to connect or operate.  Had no problems before I downloaded the Maverick operating system.  This system has created several problems with email, etc.

Niether of you are giving us enough information to go on.
    What is the Application?!
You need to provide a link so we can at least see it is supported on 10.9.
If it doesn't run it could be using old code that can't run on Mavericks (& we can't help you with third party code - contact the manufacturer) or the OS is blocking the app because it is not signed & Gatekeeper doesn't allow unsigned code to run.
I would turn off Gatekeeper & see if it runs, however since you are not giving us any info on the app we can't even test this for you.
Gatekeeper is inside the Security section of System Preferences setting it to "Anywhere" will disable it. Turn it back on after you test the app.
