  • I got rid of my PC and the hard drive was destroyed.  This was done before I deauthorized my computer from ITunes.  Is there anyway i can do this now, after the fact.  I can't access certain songs in my library now

Help!  I got rid of my old PC and the hard drive was destroyed.  I forgot to deauthorize it in Itunes and now I can't access a lot of the songs in my library because it says too many computers have been authorized to play the music.  IS there anywy I can deauthorize now, after the fact??

    Deauthorize all computers
To deauthorize all your computers, follow these steps:
Click to open your account in iTunes (you may need to sign in with your Apple ID), or follow these steps:
Open iTunes and click iTunes Store.
Click Sign In and enter your Apple ID.
Click your Apple ID and select Account.
    Click Deauthorize All.
NOTE: Apple limits the Deauthorize All option to once every 12 months.

  • My macbook pro crashed and the hard drive was replaced. How do I restore my backup pre- 9.6 iphoto library to the 9.6.1 iphoto library? They look completely different.

My macbook pro crashed and the hard drive was replaced. How do I restore my backup pre- 9.6 iphoto library to the 9.6.1 iphoto library? They look completely different. When I look at my backed-up iphoto library folder I see lots of files and folders: ALbumData.xml, Attachments folder, etc. The 9.6.1 iphoto library doesn't appear to be a folder at all. Help!

iPhoto 6 and earlier libraries were regular folders with the kind of files your reporting.  With the advent of iPhoto 7 the library folder was changed to a package similar to the application packages but have essentially the same files and folders inside.  There's no reason to have access to the inside of the iPhoto Library so Apple changed them to packages.
Do you have a backup copy of the iPhoto Library from before the HD crash.  If so restore it to the Pictures folder in your Home folder.  If you previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 or earlier download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on your library before trying to open it with iPhoto 9.6.1.

  • My MacBook died and my hard drive was removed, are my existing files only compatible with Apple products?

My MacBook died and my hard drive was removed, are my existing files only compatible with Apple products? Are the files encrypted with Apple OS or am I able to import my files to Microsoft programs?

The drive as a whole can’t be read on a PC without installing software such as MacDrive on it.
The answer varies for individual document files; some file formats can be read by Windows software, while others can't.

  • Hard drive crashed. How do I re-install CS 13 and Lightroom 4?

Hard drive crashed. How do I re-install CS 13 and Lightroom 4?

You install a new copy to the point of activation. At the point you call Adobe customer support the tell then you had a had crash so you can not deactivate the application and need their help activating a new install on the machine.  This is one problem Adobe Customer Support is actually able to handle.   You give them your Adobe ID they enable and additional install your account and watch you activate the product to see if the machine its on  the same machine as one of your prior activation.

  • I have a macbook 2006 its hard drive was not working anymore so i install a new 500GB hard drive but now i just need the software. Which one should i buy?

I have a macbook 2006 its hard drive was not working anymore so i install a new 500GB hard drive but now i just need the software. Which one should i buy?

    Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
You can buy Snow Leopard at:
Snow Leopard disc source - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You could contact Apple Support and see if they have the original discs for that machine but it would be 10.4.11 and there's no reason not to go to at least Snow Leopard, especially since the 10.6 discs would probably cost the same as a replacement set of 10.4.11

  • Early 2008 MacBook Pro hard drive was killed; how to sync stuff

My early 2008 MacBook Pro hard drive was reimaged (not by me) and they lost everything on there, and have now put in a new hard drive, saying nothing was salvageable on the original HD. I have an iPhone, iPod, iPad. When i get the MBP back, how will I be able to get those devices synced so that everything I've bought/have goes back onto the HD?
The original HD was being reimaged because my work requires use of Windows, and I was using Windows via Boot Camp. Windows got a terrible rogue virus (from my clicking on a link), which shut everything down on that side. Work tech folks said they needed to reimage the Windows part of the drive, but said in the process, the reimaging took everything, Mac stuff included. That's why I'm in this situation. They are going to put in a new hard drive, but it is a blank slate.
Long story short: last time I backed up was 2 years ago, and it wasn't using Time Machine, but an external hard drive. That was also before I got my current iPhone, the iPad and made some additions to iTunes. (For those who say shame on me, for not doing a backup sooner, you're right: But we have gone through 3 moves in 18 months, so it has been kinda nuts.)
I expect the MBP to get sent back to me in the next day. I have no idea how to put these pieces back together. I'm not even sure about data recovery, but am most concerned about iTunes/iPhone/iPod/iPad.
    Thanks for your help!

Two years ago??? Shame on you!!!
I found this the other day. It's old but still applies. This should be more than enough to help you get back on track. See the comments by Zevoneer

You will have to check on each of these. Some of the links are outdated but there is more than enough to get you started. See this article about transferring purchases. The link is in the other thread as well.

My hard drive was accidentally wiped and there is no backup of my data.  How can I reinstall the operating system on my MacBook Air

    1. If you have a Mac OS X install DVD or the computer originally shipped with a thumbdrive, insert or connect it.
    2. Start up the computer with the Option key held down.
    3. Click on the DVD, thumbdrive, or recovery partition.
    4. Install an OS.

  • Most of my hard drive was erased how can I get it back on my computer as I dont have a hard copy

My hard drive has been erased I do not have a hard copy, how can I get my operating system back on my computer?

    Reinstall it:
Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should install the version of OS X that you had installed.

  • After i ran the installer program to reset to factory settings, in the Disk Utility menu there is no hard drive listed.  How do I properly install the OS?  On the left hand side it lists: 250.06 GB Hitachi HTSS..., Mac OS X Install DVD, HL-DT-ST DVDRW G2

The open window says, "Mav OS Install DVD" when I choose Disk Utilities.  The options listed on left are: 250.06 GB Hitachi HTSS..., Mac OS X Install DVD, HT-DT-ST DVDRW G2 3N and Mac OS X Install DVD.  How do I install the program on the hard drive?  This computer was given to me by a friend and I was trying to restore it to factory settings.  Thanks!!

You want to boot from the Install DVD and install OSX on the Hitachi drive.

  • Trying to restore previous iWeb files after hard drive was reformatted.

I had to have a clean install on my MacBook last week and had my iWeb files backed up but I'm having trouble figuring out how to import the files or restore iWeb to the way it was. Any thoughts? Or is it just another lack of support and thinking on Apple's part?

No. You just need to have backed up the right files.
iWeb stores info under User/Library/Application Support/domain.sites and it is this domain.sites file that you need to be able to alter anything in iWeb.
If you published your site to a local folder thinking that was a back up, then it is not, as iWeb has no import facility and is unable to open already published html files.
If you don't have your domain.sites file then you'll have to re-build your site again in iWeb.

  • Hard drive failure immediately following 10.4.6 install

The Apple Discussions have been such a great help to me over the years. Wanted to add my experience to the forum in case it helps someone.
Background – 15” flat-panel iMac with 1GB RAM and 60GB ST360020 Seagate hard drive running 10.3.9. The hard drive was seldom spun down in the 4 years since machine was acquired. Regular maintenance with Disk Warrior and occasionally TechTool Pro. DW would always report that S.M.A.R.T. parameters were okay, but TTP consistently reported one obscure parameter was at threshold limit. Sorry I didn’t keep the specific parameter info to give. I remember concluding it was innocuous when I checked into it a few years ago.
My goal was to do a clean install of 10.4.6. I wanted to make sure the disk was still in good shape, and prior to the install I made two external clones with SuperDuper!. I booted from one of the clones and used Disk Utility (still in 10.3.9) to erase the iMac’s internal HD. I choose the “write zeros” option because I wanted to be extra certain that any bad spots would be caught and mapped out. When the reformat was finished I used DW to check the drive one more time. All was well.
Immediately after successfully installing 10.4.6 I rebooted (so now operating from internal HD again), opened Disk Utility and ran Repair Permissions. It ran for ~5 minutes with no messages, then the messages
    Invalid key length
    Volume check failed
and stalled (blue progress bar pulsing but no progress).
The system was extremely (but not totally) unresponsive. I used Force Quit from the Apple Menu to leave Disk Utility, then put a DW disk (3.0.3 for Tiger) into the optical drive. Restarted and used C key after chime to boot from DW. Click on DW’s “rebuild” button and within moments it put a message in parentheses beneath the progress bar saying something like
    (slow due to disk malfunction)
DW stalled. I was able to quit DW but the system didn’t auto reboot so I forced shutdown with the power button. I then booted with the Tiger install disk and launched Disk Utility. I ran Repair and got the same messages
    Invalid key length
    Volume check failed
I had to hard shutdown. I booted again and pressed Option after the chime to make sure the install disk was selected as the boot drive. I commenced the process and this time choose Erase and Install (thus using the 10.4.6 software to erase/format the HD) in case there was any hidden incompatibility from using 10.3.9 to format the disk the first time.
After successful install I repeated all of the above procedures with Disk Utility and DW. Results were the same.
After reading the forums more deeply, I concluded that the HD was unrecoverable.
My point in relaying all of this is because there are numerous posts indicating a similar problem. Perhaps 10.4.6 is more stringent about disk operating tolerances. It seems too much coincidence for the drive to fail in this manner at just this time.
Rather than try harder to debug the problem, I decided to replace the drive with something that was faster and higher capacity. That was fun, but a different thread!

    Hello,
It is also possible that all the extra activity just finally pushed it over the edge.
I remember when I upgraded to Windows 95. I had a machine who's hard drive was perfectly reliable, and had never given me a single problem. Absolutely no indication of trouble.
Windows 95 installed fine. And, then when the computer restarted, the hard drive completely died (as in not functional at all).
I remember thinking that Windows 95 killed my drive. But, with an electronics background, I knew that wasn't true.
The drive was dead, and no amount of messing with it (regardless of operating system) would revive it.
It was just the timing of it.
It felt like Windows 95 killed it. But, it was just it's time.
I got a new drive, and Windows installed and worked for years afterwards.
    Sometimes things just happen.
