Had Drive Crash Aftermath!!!
THIS IS THE THIRD EMAIL ON THIS TOPIC VIA THIS SPACE! NO RESPONSE TO DATE.
The hard drive on this laptop, my MacBook Pro (sn# W862809FVTG) crashed and was replaced at the Washington Sqr Apple Store on Feb 5. Much of the personal data was lost. Leopard was also installed.
I have several .Mac accounts. And have sevral websites that have been created. The sites that were constructed using .Mac Homepage I can still access and edit. HOW DO I ACCESS AND EDIT THOSE SITES CREATED WITH iWeb?

Aside from the disappointment and inconveneince of having my hard drive crash and losing personal data, the service experience has been horrible. My first call to Apple care led me to the .Mac support website on Feb 9. After no response in the prescribed "48 hours", I arrived at the Apple Store in Phoenix armed with my ProCare card. NOTHING! No one could help and I was directed back to either Apple Care or the .Mac suppofrt web pag....Apple ****.

absolutely agree. the original files don't seem to be saved in the way that say a garage band file is saved. for example, you can send a file to i-tunes and still have that original garage band file you created. I don't understand why 1-web doesn't work this way and it seems no one at Apple support can help.In fact the advise i was given by level 2 support was to use some other programme! I loved using i-web even though I don't use .Mac ( Much too slow in UK) I can understand the fact that if you have published a file in html then it is written in a different code but surely the original files should be there too. the domain.sites 2 file does exsist on my mac because it was saved to CD but that is no good at all. So Apple if you ever read this do something about it!

Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past. The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box. If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software. -
My hard drive crashed on my Mac Book Pro and I just had it replaced yesterday. After restoring my data, Safari will not open. The error message I continue to receive is "Safari quit unexpectedly" Should I just delete the application and download a new one?

My hard drive crashed and I had to wipe my computer. When I plug my iPod into my computer, it asks if I want to sync my (empty) iTunes account to my (full) iPod, but doesn't give me the option to put my iPod music onto my empty iTunes account. All I want to do is put my iPod's music back into my iTunes account, but can't figure out how to do it. I had some music backed up, but when I put it into iTunes, it won't play the songs (has an ! next to it) even though I purchased the songs from iTunes. I've tried authorizing my account, but nothing brings my old account back. Any help would be appreciated.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just this reason.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases -

I think how you understand the value of having backups. All you can do is:
General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

You will need an external enclosure for the old drive so you can connect it to the computer in order to try the recovery software before you buy it. But if they don't work then you will need to send the drive to a recovery service such as Drive Savers. -
Hard drive crashed and had to replace drive and logic board on my MacBook pro. After Install tried to sync with my iPhone and a dialog box pops up stating "this iPhone synced with another iTunes library, erase and sync?". I checked the manually manage music and videos box because I don't want all my wife's pics and music on my iPhone. How do I Sync without erasing what I have on my iPhone???

Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

I recently had a hard drive crash and had to reinstall PS. Now it doesn't work right.
I recently had a hard drive crash. I replaced the C: drive with a solid state and now have 3 internal HDs. C: for the OS (Windows 7), D: for data and P: for program installation. Because I replaced the C: drive, I had to re-install all my programs. Now, PhotoShop will not let me place text, inserting the text tool causes the program to stop responding. In InDesign, if I try to place a MS Word document, it acts as if I never did that action and I can't get it placed.
I can copy and paste, but doing so makes the formatting get left behind. I suspect it may not have installed correctly. I've used Adobe products since 1991 and never had this happen before. I even used Aldus PageMaker before the Suites were available. Can anyone help? Is it a reinstallation issue?
I use PhotoTools from OnOne and if I uninstall it to reinstall CS4, I'm afraid it will no longer honor my product key.
I will not give up until this work like it used to. I'm too old to upgrade.The faulty HD was replaced with a solid state one and that works fine. The fan that caused the errors on the old HD was removed. The system is probably not an issue since I had to reinstall my Windows 7 and it was the only thing installed on the C: drive. I have another drive that I run programs from and one other that I use only for data. Plus a backup drive. The BIOS was reset. The only remaining problems I have are trying to find the software for the web cam driver and I think I will just download it again and my problem with PhotoShop and InDesign. Those two are the sticky ones,I depend on those programs. They work, even my PhotoTools plugin works. The only problems seem to be using the type tool in PS and placing MS Word documents (.docs and .docxs) I think the program must not have installed correctly but I'm afraid if I reinstall it, it might be worse and then I might have to reinstall PhotoTools. That would require calling the company again because when I reinstalled it the last time, it said that it couldn't accept the product #, it had been used before. Yeah, by me. I called them and they gave me a new number, but I don't know if they will be happy if I do that again. So, my best bet is to see if I can fix those two functions. Officially you don't. Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

I have a similar issue. My hard drive crashed, so I had a new one installed and I'm basically starting from scratch on my computer. My iPhone has a lot of my stuff on it (photos and music in particular). When I plugged into iTunes I did a "back up" of my phone to the computer....this transferred the photos in my camera roll, and music purchased through iTunes.
So....I still have a ton of photos (saved in folders, not my camera roll), and music (older stuff not purchased through iTunes) that I want to get to my computer. I am scared to "sync" my phone in iTunes for the first time.....if I do this, will it make my phone match my computer (effectively erasing the stuff on the phone?). What I want is for my computer to match my phone (thus transferring the additional photos and music). Is the third party software the only way?? Does it really work well/is it worth the money? My computer was logged in using my Apple ID. I was out of town when my hard drive crashed, so my wife took it in to get replaced. When doing so the person at the Apple store helping her had her create a new Apple ID to use with the computer. Now, when I open time machine I don't see anything from before this hard drive crashed. How do I get access to my old photos from iPhoto that should have been backed up on the external hard drive?
