Had Kernel panic and the app folder for my user is empty...
I was using a OWC estat express card and had my second kernel panic in two days (not using it anymore..) but when I restarted the app folder for my user was empty. Now the apps are still on Macintosh HD and in the apps stack in the dock.
So my question is does it matter if I just use the Macintosh HD apps and maybe even drag it into my user or will this cause problems.
Also, I don't have a backup at the moment bc I just upgraded to snow leopard last week...
Thanks!
The app folder for my user had all of my apps earlier today...!
I think that you are the one who is mistaken. All Apple apps are installed to the Applications folder at the root level of your hard drive, not the one in your user folder. If you moved them, some of them would stop working and all of them would stop being updated. Some third party apps will allow themselves to be placed in the user Applications folder, but some will not allow themselves to be installed anywhere other than the main Applications folder, and some will allow themselves to be placed in the user Applications folder but will not work properly if you do so.
So, there's absolutely no way you had all your apps in that folder.

when i went to buy an app, the app asked me for an answer to a sercuity question that i never answered when i opened my account and set my password. what next?
If the charge doesn't go through, your account will be disabled & you will be unable to update or purchase anything else...even free apps.

Tomcat and the Flaky folder for .keystore
Here is my dilemma.
I have create a .keystore file using genkey : no problem
I am running Windows XP Pro
I am using Tomcat 5.0
I am start Tomcat as a service using the tomcat5w.exe program
Here is where I have a problem.
Tomcat is not consistent as to where it looks for the .keystore file
Folder Locations where Tomcat looks.
A. C:\Documents and Settings\Default User
B. C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService
C. C:\Documents and Settings\userName
Again, Tomcat at one moment is looking at A and when I stop and restart Tomcat it may or maynot look at B or C.
So the questions are
1. Where the heck is the .keystore file suppose to go?
2. How do I tell Tomcat for the deployed application where to find the .keystore file?
thanks you for your help everyone.http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.0-doc/ssl-howto.html#Edit%20the%20Tomcat%20Configuration%20File

Help with kernel panic and freezing screen?
A few months ago I had kernel panic screens about twice, but the problem didn't recur again for a while. Over the last two weeks, however, I've had two more kernel panics, and the screen freezes (mouse, all actions, etc) and the machine has to be manually restarted about every five minutes.
I've tested the two ram sticks, erased and re-installed the OS but had no luck resolving the issue.
I followed the link on resolving kernel panic problems from earlier threads to troubleshoot as much as possible. I don't have the original software so can't do a few steps, but on the whole have had no luck.
I don't have any external or USB devices hooked up when it fails. I do occasionally use USB pen drives, but that doesn't seem to be related. I bought a new, non-apple power source a while back, too, but also don't think that's related.
Before I bought the laptop from a friend, he installed a different hard drive, but I believe it came from another G4 Ti machine. He left two screws out of the bottom of the case.
I'm thinking mainboard or possible hard drive? Any ideas?
Also, since reinstalling the harddrive, I've had no error report message come up when the machine restarts, and there isn't an error log file, at least not for kernel panics (that I can find.) Before I reinstalled the OS, I read the error reports and they said something about kernels....but I don't remember what, specifically.
If there are other useful logs I could post, let me know and I'll find them. Are the console logs or directory service logs of any use?
Thanks in advance for any help or any advice...!
PowerBook G4 Ti Mac OS X (10.4)
PowerBook G4 Ti Mac OS X (10.4)Hi tjk
- Thanks for the help.
I've tested the two ram sticks
How?
I took out each stick one at a time and ran the machine with a single instead of both.
I have dual 256 sticks. The original, and a Samsung which came with it when I bought it used.
In both cases, the same problem occurred.
How much free space do you have available on your HD?
If not 5GB or more, this could be causing issues.
I had about 20GB free. Now it's running with 70Gb free and still the same problems. It's an 80 GB hard drive that was installed into the PB when I bought it a few months ago. I had the machine for about three weeks first, and didn't have any of these problems with the other hard drive in it.
I don't have the install disk, so can't run the disk utility repair, correct. I've also not been able to get the PB to boot from the disk instead of the hard drive. It brings up only the hard drive as a selection to boot from, and spins up the OSX DVD, then ejects it each time.
...not sure why...I've been holding down option when restarting to boot from other drives -- if there's another way to boot from the disk, maybe that would work...
Have a look at the Orange Ribbon Cable Issue/Fix and see if
it might apply to your PB. Which Ti do you have btw?
This is a really interesting link and for a bit I thought it sounded exactly like the problem...but I have the original TiBook, 500 Mhz so the trackpad cable doesn't run through the same spot. Maybe there's something else shorting out or pinching underneath...I'll take a look, but I'm not necessarily hardware savvy enough to know what to look for.
Thanks again for any suggestions.

Can anyone help, in the past 4 months I have had two new logic boards fitted to try and solve the problem of kernel panics and , the message saying 'please restart your computer. now since the last repair 10 days ago it has now starting freezing on me.
Apple not much help, saying take it back to be reapired again. would a reinstall of the OS solve the problem? and if I did would I lose data
Thanks in advance for replies.I've responded to your other post as I hadn't seen this one - have a look there.
Kernels are usually, but not inevitably, hardware related and RAM is the first suspect - but again it isn't the only suspect.
Chesck the other thread. :-)) -

Email not opening on my iPad2 This is a sudden thing, email had been working fine since purchasing the device then today would not stay open, now it will not open at all. After trying to open mail I receive a white screen for a nano second and the app closes.
Have you tried closing the Mail app completely ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
I have had an iPod Touch 3rd Gen for two years pretty much and the apps have worked fine. Suddenly when I go on an app it appears to launch then just exits. I tried turning the iPod off and on again, but that made all my apps behave like that. Settings and those things work fine still. Should this suddenly happen? I dont want to lose all 204 apps.
- First try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Next try downloading/installing a new app
- Restore from backup
- Last, resore to factory defaults/new iPod. this is last result since you will lose app data. -
About 10 kernel panics in the past 3 months - looking for cause
Hello,
I have tried searching extensively in the discussions.apple.com and in Google but cannot answer the question myself. I've had quite a number of kernel panics in the past 3 months on a MacBook Pro 13" purchased new in July 2010.
I'll post two reports below but the cause looks to be the following, which I cannot interpret:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x226b57): "thread_invoke: preemption_level -1, possible cause: unlocking an unlocked mutex or spinlock"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.9.37/osfmk/kern/sched_prim.c:1471
Can anyone explain that?
Unfortunately I cannot say anything about what was happening at the time of the kernel panic. There appears to be nothing systematic from my end. It doesn't happen all the time but frequently enough now that it is frustrating if a lot of work / apps are open.
I have read the following http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html but it did not help me out. I did perform a hardware test at boot up by holding down D. Hardware test passed twice without problems.
Thanks
TT Mac

My MBP is Kernel Panicing, and I see the Crash Report is at 107% CPU
My fans are spinning quickly, and the whole thing sounds like a Jet Plane, even when no programs are open. I have been to the Genius bar 3 times this week.
They keep looking at it, doing disk checks, repairing permissions, then I left it with them for 3 days. They ran "diagnostic tests", but still came back with nothing.
They finally agreed to wipe my Hard Drive. Since I got it back Friday night, I had one more kernel panic, and I've managed to update Mountain Lion...but the Crash Report thing is still going on.
It's pretty obvious that the Genius bar here in London doesn't have a clue how to fix this, so what should I do?Here's the one from last night.

My iPod Touch is running on ios 7. In the last two and a half all the apps of my iPod have been suddenly wiped out twice. I had to download all the apps all over again. Why has it happened?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I have an Iphone 3GS and the app for Facebook doesn't work anymore...
I have an Iphone 3GS and the app for Facebook doesn't work anymore since last update made yesterday.
How can I restore it without the last update?
Or, what can I do to have the Facebook back again on my mobile?
Thank you for your help.Hi Ricoco,
I too had exact issue what you were experienced, then I went to Apple autorised service center and submitted my earpods, their it worked with all versions of Apple iphones, but it didn't worked on my 3gs. The service technician suggested for OS upgrade. Then I came home and I took the backup and upgraded 5.1 to 6.1 as he suggested, also it didn't worked. I was totally frustated and suddenly I got an idea!. What a funny thing here is, a safety pin resolved my issue, I took out all dust which was there in the jack hole. Then I check my earpods, it was amazing you know..MY EAR PODS WORKED!.
If you still have this issue, I hope this will help you.

I have had my MacBook for 5 years and ever since upgrading to the new system which added the App Store to my computer, I have been curious about the difference between the iPhoto that came pre-downloaded when I purchased my computer 5 years ago and the iPhoto available for purchase on the App Store. What makes the iPhoto from the App Store so different that I have to pay $15 for it, when I already have it for free on my computer?
Lots and lots of new features - and since you have upgraded to Mavericks much better operation
For information on what has changed there are many. many reviews on the web as well os a writup on the App store recapping the new features of the latest version vs the previous version
as to your choice - totally personal - do or don't - you choose - it does no involve anyone here in any way

A friend of mine downloaded an app from the internet onto my iPod Touch 4 so I could play pokemon on my iPod, I deleted the app but now iTunes and the App Store won't open, they say that the certificate for this server is invalid. What should I do?
Try:
Why does my iPod 4th generation say the certificate for this server is invalid when trying to access iTunes? I've never had an issue until this recently.
