I have recently been having issues signing into my Apple ID and decided to go in and update my email and change my password.
Since changing my email and password I have been unable to update any of my apps. I receive this error message when trying to update, "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."
I have looked into other forums and communities for a solution to this issue but from what I have read iTunes/Apple has yet to figure out a solution.
I have also read that the cause of this issue can be linked to two things.
One, is if you have multiple accounts on one computer. I only have one iTunes account/ Apple ID on this computer. This is my personal laptop and no one else has ever loaded on another account.
The second cause is linked to the country to which the apps were downloaded in. My computer and Apple ID were both created in the US, however 9 months ago I moved to New Zealand on a one year work holiday visa. Since living in New Zealand for the past 9 months I have been buying and updating apps, it wasn't until today when I received this error message.
I would really like to find a solution to this problem, but at the very least I would like to know what exactly caused this issue so that others may hopefully steer clear.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers.I think the issue is that iTunes (for whatever reason) thinks I have two Apple ID's.
also, to further complicate the issue, when i try updating the apps from my iPod the iTunes store is still recognizing my old hotmail Apple ID. So when I go to enter my password it won't accept because it doesn't match with the old Apple ID, even though it is the same account (just new Apple ID name).
I have tried signing out within the App Store and re-signing in with my Apple ID but it still brings up my old Apple ID name when I try to update. -
When I try to download free updates for apps, I've suddenly started getting an error message saying "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software".
But I HAVE owned the software, for ages. (And, in any case, the apps in question are all free.)
And I don't have multiple Apple IDs.
What can I do?
Any advice much appreciatedThis can occur if you bought the machine used and iLife was reinstalled with another AppleID.
This also can occur if the "free apps" you downloaded have paid upgraded versions and/or are now payware and you can't get updates.
All software from MAS is copy protected, it might be free as in "no charge" but it's not free in the sense you can share it with others. -
Installed 11.0.3 today. Tried to update apps. iTunes response was, "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." I REALLY don't understand. I paid for MANY applications and stole or borrowed NOTHING.
Hi 969Polyglot969,
You may want to report an issue with the affected apps using the instructions in this article:

I hope this helps!

You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software.
any soultions???Same here. Just becoming a nightmare. Updated iTunes and now can't update apps it itself is showing as available updates. Count me in on the latest "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." bug.
Next I have to post about a new problem in iPhoto on a new thread.... it lost the "link" between some but not all photos I have in the library and what it itself posted to FaceBook a few hours ago...
Incredibly frustrating.

My kids did something to itunes and now I'm getting the error.
You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software. This is the computer that we have always updated our apps on. Does anyone have any ideas for me?I have the same thing. It looks like it's the store. What is happening is that instead of the store showing you only the updates for the account you are logged into, it shows you the updates for all of your accounts. So if you try & update an app that was purchased with another account, you get that message. This is a pain, as you have to go through the apps individually (update all just gives you an error) , and then log out & into the other account again to get the rest of the updates.

'You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software?.Going from iPhoto v 8.x.x to V 9.x.x is called an upgrade and requires the purchase of iPhoto 9.
To go from v 8.1 to v 8.1.2 is an update and is free.

I've been having no problem updating apps on my ipod touch, but two days ago I started getting the above message, only for the FB update. I have deleted, reinstalled, reset -nothing helps. Apple support could not figure it out either, they said it's a 3rd party app (they did try to help me but nothing worked). The notification that there is an update won't go away as long as FB is on my ipod. Help!

Can not update since you have not owned the major version of software.
The forums have multiple posts regarding the error "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."
Apple's solution is to archive the message without any comment or solution. Some people mention that Apple does not want people to have multiple accounts. We have multiple devices, why would we not have multiple accounts. I do not want all of my sons games on my phone. Could someone please offer a solution without deleting my post like last time.Is this article of any help http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495 ?
No idea why this has appeared three times

I'm trying to retrieve or change my password for an OLD iTunes account. I no longer have access to the email account in question. Apple will not accept my birthdate. What to do?
send an e-mail to the iTS customer service using this form, describe your problem and ask the folks there to help you sort it out.

This pop up has been occurring about once a minute when I am on certain sites.
This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?
How do I get it to stop?-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar

Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
-> Update ALL your Firefox Plug-ins https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted toolbars
-> go Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History ->'' Time range to clear: '''select EVERYTHING''''' -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on '''Cookies & Cache''' -> click "Clear Now"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> Firefox will: select "Use custom settings for history" -> REMOVE Checkmark from "Permanent Private Browsing mode" -> place CHECKMARKS on:
1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search History 4) Accept Cookies from sites -> select "Exceptions..." button -> Click "Remove All Sites" at the bottom of "Exception - Cookies" window
4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> under "Keep Until" select "They Expire"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
-> Click OK on Options window
-> click the Favicon (small drop down menu icon) on Firefox SearchBar (its position is on the Right side of the Address Bar) -> click "Manage Search Engines" -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click Remove -> click OK
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working. -

I keep getting this pop-up every few minutes: "This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?" I'm sick of it!!! How can I get rid of it???Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
