Had to rebuild computer & now itunes does not recognise ipod & iphones

Had major problems with pc & had to reload everything & have successfully reloaded backed up music & films but now when I connect ipod & iphone it thinks that they are linked to another version of itunes & get the message saying that it will delete all media etc on the devices. I have lots of apps & other music (downloaded direct onto ipod) contact/diary info that I don't want to lose. Any ideas anyone?

Ipod touch and iphone will sync to one computer/library at a time. Since you had to reload everything, it is now a new library. Your iphone and ipod will indeed be erased when you sync.
You can transfer itunes purchases from the devices first.
Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
Were you contacts not included in the regular backup?
If for some reason you did not backup your contacts, calendars, then you can enter one unique contacts/calendar entry on your computer. When you first sync you should get the option to merge the data.

Hey, we are having exactly the same problem! My old ipod died a slow death so I bought a new nano 16gb 4th gen and I can't use it as itunes isn't recognising any ipod being plugged into it. I think what you are saying is that itunes doesn't even recognize that your iphone is plugged in - so you can't start the recovery process? I DO know that in the hours of me muddling through the internet - googling this issue - that I did see other posts of those who plugged into itunes, and it didn't recognize their iphone, but they DID have suggestions on how to deal with the problem... while I don't have "the" solution, I wanted you to know I did see an answer out there - just skimmed past it as I was searching for mine... sorry I don't remember good luck!

i've reinstalled the latest version of itunes plus ios 6 and followed the troubleshooting sections for Windows 7 PC but itunes does not recognise the ipod touch. the USB cable is ok (charges the ipod anyway) but when I run diagnostics it does not see an ipod.

For this issue you might try a couple things.
First, try to restart the Apple Mobile Device service by clicking Start and searching for Services. Stop the service, then restart the service.
If that doesn't work, you can remove and reinstall iTunes.

I have similar problems to Andy McClusky only I use a Mac. My mac has had recent updates and can see the ipod but will not let me put new music on. It states that I need an update to Mac OS 10.2.8 or higher. I have 10.3.9.

iCloud Backup is for your iPad, not for your computer.
Whatever you bought from iTunes is yours forever and can be downloaded as many times as you want. This assumes what you purchased is still available in the Store.
Here is the procedure for your reference.
On a computer, launch iTunes. Click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
"Sign in" using the Apple ID used to purchase your songs, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button.
Whatever you have that did not originate from iTunes will have to be obtained from whatever means you used to obtain it in the past.

I had to return a faulty ipod nano. The replacement isn't recognised in My Computer or in iTunes.
I think this might be to do with the registration of the first nano still being recognised?

ITunes does not recognise my iPhone

Hi,
I just updated to the latest version of iTunes and it was working perfectly. I use windows XP professional as my operating system. I was able to access the iTunes store, play music, purchase and successfully download music etc. However, when I attached my iPhone my laptop recognised it in my computer as an apple camera and it did not show up in my iTunes under my devices. I managed to get it to stop recognising it as a camera through the my devices tab but still can't get iTunes to "find" my phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
