Had to reset but now files are lost and won't open

I was prompted this morning with wanting/needing to reset Firefox - something I never have never seen before. It was going thru my "old data" and froze. I needed to restart my iMac and in doing so now I can't open Firefox because it says: "Firefox cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." I have the folder of my "Old Firefox Data" on my desktop. Have I lost everything? How do I get this back?

After data file recovery, files are red and won't open

My HD crashed so I used Data Rescue 3 to recover my files. It worked but now all the files are highlighted red and won't open. The file sizes look right but for instance when I try to open a mov file it says, this is not a movie file. My FCP projects won't open either. Does anybody know what the problem is and what I need to do to get the files usable again?

Data recovery can be hit and miss. Data Rescue is unlikely to be able to recover every single byte from every single file. If so much as a single byte is out of place, QuickTime will be unable to read the file.
I would suggest you give QT Repair a try and if that doesn't work, try File Salvage:

My Toshiba external hard drive broke and a friend used a program on his mac to recover the files. He says it worked but now all the files are highlighted red and won't open. Thanks, Courcoul. I did Get Info and changed all the permissions to Read & Write for Me, Fetching, and Everyone. Still doesn't work. But, if I click on the picture of the Lock to Unlock it, I can't do that, because it's a work computer and they don't give me admin privileges. So maybe that's the problem? Though I don't see why. I use to be able to open all the files on my computer.

Had to reset touch & now it wiped clean and cant sync

itunes said i had to reset my itouch so i did and it wiped my touch clean of everything including software upgrade but i still have everything on my itunes. when it was done resting it i got a screen and i clicked my touch icon and it say "set up ipod" and to the right of the screen was 2 options. To set up as new ipod or to restore backup of my stuff. i select "Restore the backup of Kyles touch" and there is a button to the right of that that says kyles touch and i click it and a little pop up comes up saying the same thing and it turns blue when i roll my mouse over it but does nothing when i click it.I cannot sync but i just downloaded the latest software. Please help.

Let it air-dry COMPLETELY, before you do anything else. It might take a week to do so. Trying to dry it quickly can damage otherwise operational modules.

I downloaded the album Hullabaloo and the files are protected and won't let me put them on my iPod touch, even though the computer is authorized. How do i unprotect them?

Battery died and now files are lost

The battery doesn't last on my ibook, so it's constantly plugged in. Recently the plug quit working so the ibook was without power for I don't know how long. Now, all my files are gone. the main thing I want to retrieve is my iphoto library. Please, I hope someone can give me an idea how to find them.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Look in your Pictures folder for your iPhoto Library folder. If it's there look inside the iPhoto Library/Originals folder to see if you're full sized image files are in the subfolders. They should be. What probably happened is the loss of power corrupted the database file inside the library and when you open iPhoto it thinks there are no files.
If the above is correct then move the current iPhoto Library folder to the desktop. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library. When that library is open, drag the Originals folder from the library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window. This will create a new library with your photos and the same rolls that were in the old library. Unfortunately you'll lose your albums, keywords, comments, books, slideshows, etc. but you will have your photos back. To protect against similar corruption of the database file in the future see my Tip at the end of my signature.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

I updated my iPhone and now none of the music on it will play. When I sync, I can change teh music selections on it, but they all won't play and are greyed out. Only the Playlists, Artists, Albums are black font, but all songs are grey and won't play

I recently updated my iPhone 3G to 5.0 (9A334) and it was somehow interrupted during restoration, or at least that is what it tells me. But it keeps making a new restore and adding it to a list, but never gets through without getting interrupted. anyways, I kind of got through all that, but now all the music on the iPhone won't play and is greyed out. I had some APPs greyed out, but they are not as important. Music is a huge investment in my life and this part of it has gone silent. I SYNC with my iMac. Resyncing doesn't help. I can change the selections, but can never get them to play on the iPhone.
Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue, i restored my phone to Factory settings, even tried restoring it to my backup, half of my music bought from itunes won't play on my iphone and i'm super annoyed, this only happened once i updated to ios 7.2 so i assume its another glitch to go with my imessages not sending, getting sick of this.

I just logged on and plugged my ipad to get the update and it pulled iphoto up like normally, and it said i needed to choose like a place where i wanted my pictures to be stored and then i just did like in my pictures albulm or spot and then i got finally to my normal iphoto and ALL my pics were gone. I had a lot too like 5,000. So, i dont know what to do! And last night i was trying to turn my laptop off, and it kept saying you need to cloe iphoto cause its still in progress, but i had never touched or did anything really with it so i had to force quit iphoto. And then it finally turned out but im not sure what i did.

He's asking you if when you launch iPhoto with the option key held down you have the option of opening more than one library. If not then you current library may be damaged and you can try to fix it by applying the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

HT5622 Downloaded the new Itunes and now files are missing and will not let me download anything or play my music.

Running Vista operating system. During updates to my system, Itunes cannot open due to files missing and will not let me re-download it or open/save it. Cannot play my music or open Itunes at all.

On the new computer launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar (top of your screen) click Store > Authorize This Computer
Now try syncing your iPod.

PDF files stop loading and won't open until I click scroll bar?

I’ve tried this on 5 different computers running XP and Windows 7 and it does the same thing every time. I click on Page 3-7 or 15-17 and it starts to load and then stops. As you can see on the first screen below it stopped loading at 37kb of a 615kb file. On the second picture below, I clicked the mouse on the vertical scroll bar and the page appeared.
Any ideas to the mystery?

If you share an Apple ID, both of your phone numbers should be linked to that ID. You should be able to use your phone number as well. My wife, my daughter and I all share an Apple ID for purchases, and we each text from our iOS devices using our own iPhone numbers.
When iOS 6 came out, you were able to link the phone number with your Apple ID to use for Messages and FaceTime. You will need to sign out of messages on all devices and then start the process all over again.

Music wouldn't play on Touch 4 iOS5 - after trying everything I decided to restore my iPod and managed to retrieve my apps, but all songs are lost now - any way to recover them?

After my third day of iOS5 songs stopped playing; sometimes they would randonmly skip, sometimes I couldn't open them at all. It appeared as if it was playing but no sound came of it. (Videos and other apps with sound worked well).
I searched here but there was no definite answer so I restored my iPod. Now I recovered all my apps, but my songs are lost. I have them in my computer, but getting those 500 songs sorted again (covers, genres, ordering, all of them had lyrics)... it will take way too long. Any way I can retrieve them?
