Had to restore 2nd generation ipad touch 4.2.1 it would not restore several apps. It says I need ios 4.3 these apps worked before. Any ideas?

Did you have newer vesions of those apps on your computer's iTunes ? If you did then the restore would try to install those versions (apps aren't included in the actual backup, just their content and settings) - if you don't have older versions of those somewhere (e.g. on a backup) then you will need to update the iOS version of the iPad if you want to use them, as only the current version of each app in the store.

I have unlocked my iPhone 3G with Vodafone via iTunes, but now the downloaded apps crash immediately when opened. I've tried a Restore, but this didn't help. I've also tried removing all apps and re-installing them, but they still don't work. Any ideas? Thanks.
yep, unfortunately can't reset without the passcode either.
With regards to doing a restore, do you mean:
open itunes on my computer
click on my device on the left
go to the device summary
click restore
it then asks if i want to back up before i restore (to which i say no)
then it asks me if i'm sure I want to restore to factory settings and that all of me media and data will be erased and replaced with the newest version ( to which I say yes)
then it takes about 90 mins to do this but when I look at my phone, everything is exactly the same.
Am I missing something? Obviously I'm technologically challenged, but I HAVE to get to the bottom of this! -
How can I get the ibooks onto a 2nd generation ipod touch since it requires 5.0 and the version on the ipod is only 4.2.1? Surely, I should be able to read books on the 2nd generation ipod, right?
"Really? "
Yes.
"Is there any other way to access books on the ipod 2nd generation? "
No ibooks.
You can try a kindle reader. -
I have a Ipod Touch 2nd generation. My ipod froze and would not let me restart it. I restored my Ipod but now I can recover my apps. My ipod says I need to upgrade to iOS 5. I have software 4.2. Contacted Apple tech support I was told I should be able to download them. How can I get upgrade and get back my pre-purchased apps.
It sounds like you actually have a 2G iPod Touch, which can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1 and no later. Not only that, but the apps you are trying to install have been updated and now require a higher version of iOS that is not supported on your iPod Touch. If that is the case, you are out of luck, unless you buy a newer iOS device or can recover the older versions of the app that didn't require a later version of iOS. The older versions of the app could still be in your Trash Can/Recycle Bin.
See here to help you verify what generation your iPod Touch is.

Apparently, my current version is 4.2.1 Is there anyone who knows how I can get this update?
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1. If that is the case you will either have to get a newer model iPod or live without the newer apps

iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318. -
I Cleared room on my iPad Mini for the iOS 8 install, downloaded the installer and started he install. Device restarted rather quickly after turning off for install, did not update. When I went back to Software Update to try again, it says I need to redownload the installer and I now am using the ~1GB of space taken up by the original install file and need to clear that much space. Any way to either get my iPad to recognize the install files or delete it so I can try again?
Hooked it up to iTunes to update. The first time I tried, an error popped up that said there was an error with the firmware, so I reset my iPad Mini and tried again. This time it updated fine, no errors. Thanks for the help. Also, the original update file is now deleted. Because I have that space back.

4.0 update to my 2nd Generation iPod Touch reset all my games and notes etc
Did anyone else have this problem? My Notes and all of my apps were reset as though I just downloaded them. I lost important info. There must be a back-up file of everything somewhere and I would like to have help looking for it. Thanks! ;0)
Go to iTunes/Settings/Devices and check if the backup listed there is from the time before the upgrade. If yes, restore from that one by right clicking on your device in the device list and choosing "restore from backup". More details about restoring can be found in these two help articles: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

Is there any way to update my iPad even though it doesn't have a camera? I'm hoping Apple isn't going to stop updating and fixing bugs for original iPad.
I don't think bug fixes are ruled out, however iOS6 is for iPad 2+. The theory/thought/idea is that iPad 1's simply can't handle the bells and whistles of iOS6. IIRC, models of the iPhones and Touches are also not eligible for iOS6.
It's really the same as the laptop that I have at work that can only run XP because it lacks a processor and ram to handle windows 7 or 8.

I have a 2nd generation Ipod touch. Lately the screen will not light up and also at times while typing it returns to the home screen (such as in facebook. Any suggestions?
Have you tried any of the usual 5 R's for troubleshooting. See here for more information.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If none of those resolve the issue (including restoring the device back to factory defaults), the backlight issue is likely hardware related, meaning you'll need to have your iPod serviced either by Apple or a third party repair company.

Will my 2nd generation iPod Touch run iOS4.2.1?
will my 2nd generation iPod Touch run iOS4.2.1?
Yes. However, for a Mac you need at least OSX 10.5.8. For the 2G, you can't go past 4.2.1. You can identify your iPod model here:

My Ipod touch 2nd generation has been freezing today. We have updated, restored etc and now it will not play any music - as in no sound coming from it. It looks as if it is playing, but no sound comes out. It played ok 2 days ago. Any suggestions?
So, here is an update to my original question, in case anyone else has this issue. I spoke with a senior adviser at apple, who had me use the "devmgmt.msc" command in the search line of Windows 7; after expanding the USB controllers menu, she had me uninstall/delete the "apple mobile device driver" and then open "control panel" and "uninstall programs." Once the menu of programs was open, she had me highlight the program "apple mobile device controller", then repair it, and restart the computer. This fixed the issue and the iPod synced.
However, just one day ago, when I plugged in both the iPod, then the iPad (not at the same time), I get the message that "this library has already been synced to another iPod/iPad or other IOS device." It then asked if I wanted to set up as a new device or from restore of previous. That is wher I am right now; I am trying to get the same apple adviser again to discuss the case number. More to follow. -
I have a 2nd generation iPod touch. I have not updated the software from version 2.2.1. When I connect to iTunes to update to 4.2, I keep getting an error message. Has anyone else had this issue and figured out a way to fix it?
Error -1
Attempt to restore your iOS device two more times. If the issue is still unresolved, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Can I download i OS 5 onto my 2nd generation iPod touch? Is it possible to get my iPad music via iCloud onto the iPod 2nd generation? If yes, please can you tell me how? Thanks
You can download purchases from itunes as long as they still carry them. they may not be available forever.
All of your music and everything esle should be on your computer and backed up with your regular backup copy of your computer.
You can download most itunes purchases on ipad, ipod touch and iphone.
I see no reason to have an ipod and an iphone.
If your ipad/iphone/ipod crash you would have to restore using itunes on your computer.
I would not reccommend using an iphone ipod/ipad without a computer. -
Attempting to use bluetooth. My newly replaced 2nd generation iPod touch searches but never detect my wireless headphones which are right beside it. My old iPod had no problem detecting and connecting to the same headphones.
You can try:
- reset:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off an then backon your router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
