Rebooting is the same as restarting. That should not have any effect on what software is installed on your machine unless something is very, very wrong. Do you mean that you erased the hard drive and installed Mountain Lion? If so, you will also need to reinstall iPhoto. What system did your machine originally ship with? If it came with disks, you can reinstall the iLife apps from the Applications disk.

Any suggestions as to why I seem to be having difficulty connecting to WiFi hotspots in certain areas? I have had no problems before until recently. Should I try shutting down my iPad Air and restarting?
When I go to the Apple Store or even using a hotel's WiFi I am connected immediately. TWCWiFi, AT&T, Starbucks, Safeway and the shopping malls WiFi take an eternity or null (no connection at all). Others seem to have no problem connecting so it is not that the WiFi is crowded.If you are really interested,here is a basic article with links to a number of more detailed ones. Is it naive of me to think that Apple should simply provide a portal on their Apple TV menu for me to access my Amazon Instant Video movies?
Maybe a little. Amazon is a direct competitor, so it is not really in Apple's best interest to go out of its way to add support for a competing service that will cause Apple to lose money. The bigger problem though is all of these video services using DRM to encrypt their content and lock it away from consumers so we can only watch content we pay for on certain devices. Compaired to before when you could buy a DVD and watch it on any TV. Now when you buy content you can only using it on a few specific devices.
Is their failure to do so about an Amazon/Apple rivalry, or because the two have to make some kind of deal before this can happen
They are competitors, but a bigger issue is that it is an incredibility complex legal agreement they would have to work out. First there are legal agreements that would have to be worked out with literally thousands of copyright holders to distribute their content. Then there is the software licenncing since Apple and Amazon would have to disclose how their DRM encrption works, then there are pateint agreements that can be worth billions that have to be worked out. And all of that work would be so that they support a competator. So there is not a lot motivating them to do something that would cost a lot of money and time.
If watching Amazon content is really your major priority you might want to return your ATV and get a Roku. -

Hello, If you are dealing with one of the really thin iMac's that have no superdrive, then the superdrive icon should not appear on the desktop when you plug it in, but when you put in a disk (CD, DVD, etc.) that should appear. If you go into disk utility, and look at superdrive, that should be clickable and not grayed out when you have it plugged in. If this does not show up in disk utility, go to Apple, and ask to speak to their supervisor, speaking to a customer service agent is like talking to a potato, nothing gets done. Good Luck!

Have you tried a reset? Hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go.

Having difficulty connecting to 'The Cloud' public WiFi network (UK) with iPhone 5?
Is anyone else having difficulty connecting to 'The Cloud' public WiFi network in the UK with iPhone 5? (It's the free WiFi network for Caffe Nero, Pizza Express, Phones 4U, and Ambassador Theatre Group amongst others. It's run by BSkyB and is also available to Sky broadband customers)
WiFi works fine everywhere else (so it's not an iOS 6 problem, and I am running 6.0.2) but attempting to connect to "_TheCloud" gets instant 'Unable to connect to network' message. Going to Settings>WiFi>_TheCloud reveals that all the fields (IP Address, Subnet Mask etc) are blank.
It used to work fine on my 3GS, and also works on a colleague's 4S. However both my and my boss's iPhone 5's get the 'Unable to connect..." message.
Anyone know how to solve this problem? Or has anyone else even had this problem? There seems to be little reporting of it online.
I've tried emailing The Cloud, but have yet to receive a response.I found out why there was a problem with The Cloud network I was trying to connect to: The Cloud's equipment at the venue wasn't able to cope with newer devices.This has now been upgraded, and my iPhone 5 connects fine.
Have you tried connecting at different Cloud venues? I discovered that it was a venue problem when I successfully connected to a local Pizza Express's Cloud. -

Did you already try to reset the router?
Did you reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Did you reset the network settings on your iPod in Settings/General/Reset?

connectng with a pin # will not work with the ipad. you need to find out exactly what the actual wifi password is.
pin and push buttons are used by wifi protected setup. which is an optional feture of WPA
here are some ideas
go to the routers home page (typically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254) and see if you can click on "show password"
get the manual out, it should have the default user name and password you may need to access the routers page
if your windows computer connects, then you should be able to right click the wifi connection and click on show password as well. this is somewhere in the properties page of the wifi connection
also with windows its a good idea to click on "save wifi connection to usb drive" this can be used to connect other windows computers and xbox game consoles as well
if your laptop computer is a mac book you can go to the keychain or icloud keycahin and reveal the actual passowrd as well.
look at the actual router it might have directions on a sticker on how to access the routers configuration pages
if you enter the wrong password on the ipad you need to forget the network and try again -

1. Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
2. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your W-Fi setting is dimmed,follow these steps.
3. Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
4. Restart your iOS device.
5. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
6. Tap and Forget this Network.
7. Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
8. Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
9. Update your device to the latest version of software.

Unable to locate a Wi-Fi network

2, Move closer to your wireless router (access point) and attempt to locate the Wi-Fi network.
3. If you do not see the network you would like to join, you may be attempting to connect to a hidden network. Learn how to join a hidden network.
4. Supported Wi-Fi configurations vary by iOS device model. Find out which standardsyour device supports3.
5. Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
- previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
- recently used Bluetooth accessories
- VPN and APN settings
