Hair Dryer RAM fix multiple times

I recently bought a PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8GHz. The other day it wouldn't boot up, so I did some internetting and found the hair dryer trick. It worked, but it has now decided not to boot up again. The symptoms are the same as last time (light blinks twice, after a while fans go into jet engine mode), so I'm assuming that the hair dryer trick will work again. I was wondering if this problem will just keep occuring, and if there is a (free/cheap) way to fix it. Will the hair drying fix continue to work if the problem keeps occuring? It seems like the kind of thing that will eventually loose it's touch. But in all honestly, if I absolutely have must, I wouldn't mind taking a hair dryer to my PowerMac every few days.

Remove everything you need to reveal the chip itself. Surround the chip with aluminium foil, three or four layers, it is not necassary to cover the whole motherboard, just the surroundings of the chip. One thing that you also want to avoid is the flexing of the motherboard so you must support the backside of the chip somehow, if the board flexes too much then you may kiss the G5 goodbye in most cases.
It would be wise to have infrared thermometer which you can use to measure temperatures, the board might work fine for a while after reflowing it "blindly" without knowing the temps, but most likely you will either heat it too much (and cause damage) or too little to actually melt the solder which is the key for a bit longer lasting fix. It is not recommended to heat too quickly as you might cause all sorts of components popping out like popcorn in a microwave (been there done that).

No Audio for Windows 7 bootcamp, Tried to fix multiple times, STILL FAULTY!

I have a macbook pro 17" OS X 10.6.4, I'm running windows 7 on bootcamp, and everything is up to date except my bootcamp which is at version 3.0.2.
I have no audio and there is that red light inside my headphone jack, I can hear sounds when my headphones are plugged in but they are ridiculously quiet. I have read up on this problem just about everywhere I could find and have tried anything from installing the most up to date Realtec audio driver, to reinstalling the OS X CD drivers, to even the "poke around until you hit a switch inside the jack" trick.
While poking around inside the red lit jack I've had it go off, only to turn back on as soon as I try to watch a video or anything with audio. So that doesn't work for me apparently.
I'm out of ideas and I dunno what else to do. Somebody please help!

I have the same problem, with vista, on an intel iMac.
I tried uninstalling the driver, restarting, and then bootcamp automatically reinstalls the driver, but that didn't fix it. The driver is there and everything appears to be as it should but just no sound comes out unless I set headphones to the default, in which case the audio is way too quiet.
I'm trying to repair my bootcamp install from my leopard disk but I got an error code 2727 and couldn't even attempt to try fixing the issue that way.
It's so annoying, because I'm trying to play starcraft ii, which is impossible macside because mac os insists upon having ridiculous mouse acceleration. I managed campaign macside but now it's time for some serious competitive play and I just need to do this on windows, but no sound.

I still cannot view flash players in firefox after uninstalling and reinstalling firefox and flash multiple times. how do i fix this issue perminantly?

I can go into chrome without any issues and watch any video without any problem. the second i get into firefox nothing works. i have had this issue on and off for years. i really do not see why you cannot fix this if everybody else can. i have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and flash player multiple times. nothing seems to work. Firefox does not play videos. That is the job of the plugins.

If I understand your question, you are trying to update your iPhone, but you are seeing an error message that iTunes for Windows is not installed, is that right? The first step is to get iTunes successfully installed on your computer. Then backup the iPhone before updating the iOS software.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Okay, Mr. Easthills, you have an imac, but yet you mention apple cinema display....Hmmm, curious. you could try zapping the PRAM, hold down command (apple?), Option+P+R keys while rebooting mac. Hold down for 3 chimes, then let go and boot normally. I have this problem too, and I have a 20" widescreen apple cinema display(DVI connector--did I just date myself or what?),anyways, it's behaving itself now okay, but it tended to go dark right in the middle of whatever I was doing, and only unplugging the power cord to the display, and replugging in it would fix it for a while. sometimes it would happen again, and again the same solution. As to why it happens now with Yosemite, I don't know . This dear old monitor has lasted me about 8 years and it's still going just fine.. not state of the art anymore, though...

Re: the G5s whos failure to boot was (briefly) fixed by a hair dryer...

...or a little pressure applied to the logic board in just the right spot. If you had one of these, I've got a question. A friend gave me his 1.6ghz box, which was not booting and showing 3 flashes on the power button (indicating a ram issue). After wading through an inordinate number of threads, I came across one where they had discovered that applying heat or pressure to a specific spot on the mother/logic board would (at least for a little while) cure the problem. I tried it; literally pressing on the board with a pencil eraser while hitting the power button, and it worked like a charm. Unfortunately, it appears I will have to apply the "fix" every time I boot. Now, the fact these tricks worked at all can mean only one thing; A physical contact (probably solder) failed on the logic board.
So here is the question: Does anyone know EXACTLY which contact is failing? I'm getting ready to pull the logic board and would like to take at least a shot applying a more permanent repair.

Firefox 8.0 in safe mode crashes multiple times daily on my 64 bit Vista PC , so how do I fix this?

For the last 2 weeks after installing Firefox 7 and then this week installing update version 8.0 my 64 bit Vista PC started to crash at least twice each day; tried running disabling selected plug ins and extensions, and then using the safe mode option but Firefox 8.0 continues to crash multiple times daily. This problem does not occur on my Windows XP PC.

Both Trusteer Rapport and Roboform are known to cause Firefox 8 to crash, even in Safe Mode.

Also, Firefox 8.0.1 was just released and has a patch for crashes on Windows, but it's not being pushed as an update to all Firefox 8.0 users on Windows - you need to download it separately and install it yourself.

Fan noise like a hair dryer at full blast

I have had this IMac G5 (1.8G) since beginning of 2005, every time I go to a web site which has flash - my IMac fan goes on very loud noise like a hair dryer at full blast.
Does anyone know what the problem is? and how do i fix it?

Firefox crashes multiple times per day

Hello all!
As of the last month or two, Firefox now crashes multiple times per day (even in Safe Mode). Firefox is fully updated, as are my Add-ons and Extensions.
Yesterday alone, it crashed 14 times (which is about average).
System Info:
