Half of contacts suddenly disappear!

Hi, was wondering if anyone else had this problem. At approximately 5:10 pm EST today all my contacts on my iPhone 3G disappeared and then half of the contacts reappeared 5 minutes afterwards. I logged into my Me account at home and see that all my contacts are still on the Me.com website. However, I've been trying to sync through iTunes but I still don't have the rest of my contacts back as of this time. Can anyone please help?

Same thing happened to me, except that when my contacts came back, all phone numbers and e-mail addresses were gone. The only items left in my contacts are birthdays and notes -- the least useful information for a device that is supposed to make phone calls and send e-mails.
On top of that, the two people I had put in my favorites are completely erased from my contacts, though their phone numbers appear in the favorites list (without names).
On the me.com site, those two people (from my favorites) appear in my contact list with no information whatsoever other than their names. Everyone else's information is complete and intact.
Thankfully everything is intact on my Address Book on my Mac, but at this point I'm going to turn off the MobileMe sync for contacts. This is seriously annoying. How can I report this to Apple so that they can fix it? Why would I just lose everything for no reason? Why should I trust this service?

  • Contacts suddenly disappeared

I have a lot of contacts on my iPhone (from my Mac Address book, about 2 or 4 thousand). They've worked fine for the two months or so that I've had the iPhone. This weekend, just a few days after installing the newest version of iPhone software, I my Contact list suddenly disappeared. It happened while I was adding a phone number on my "recent calls" list to an existing contact.
Fortunately, even though I was traveling, I had my Powerbook so was able to resynch successfully. This occurrence really bothered me, as I don't always travel with my computer. Has anybody heard of this happening, and are there any solutions or precautions if you don't have your backup computer nearby? I tried resetting the iPhone but that didn't help. All other data on the iPhone was intact and didn't disappear, just the Contacts.

I don't have near that many contacts, only around 600. I noticed after the 1.1.3 update that changes made in the phone weren't syncing back to my Mac. I saw a suggestion to create a new group in Address book to see if it would jump start it. iTunes didn't see the new group, but when I synced, all my contacts became empty. Their names are still there, but there's nothing in them, and so the favorites show just numbers, no names (just like legal reported). I think it's a table of contents corruption thing, because obviously the numbers are still in there, and so are the names, they're just not associated together any more. Email addresses show up if I try to email someone, so those are in there somehow too.
I have deleted sync history as some have recommended, and I restored my phone, neither worked. I DID let it go to the backup, so I suppose the backup is corrupted as well. Only option left is to delete the backup and do a restore, but then I'll lose my notes since they don't sync.
    very bummed,

  • BB Curve 9360 - half my contacts have disappeared overnight!

I woke this morning to find half my contacts had vanished! Although, looking at call history, the names were still showing up.  Anyone come across this before? How do I get them back?

  • My contacts suddenly disappeared from my iPhone today. When I tried to back it up and resync the phone it took away everything and went back to original setting that tells you to connect to iTunes. Unfortunatly now my computer is not recognizing the phone

My iPhone suddenly lost all contacts this afternoon. Hadnt even been using it.  When I tried to Back it up and resync on the computer it wanted to update after installing the update to the computer it crashed the phone. Now I have no assess to the phone. It has gone to the original setting that tells you  to connect to iTunes. iTunes does not recognize the phone any longer.

  • My iphone 4s contact suddenly disappear. Lucky i got backup. What is happening? Can Apple fix this bug?

  • My contacts suddenly disappeared from my iphone 6,i dont have a backup on icloud i think, but i have a backup on my computer ,so i made the backup i saw the contacts and then they disappeared again .i need help?

i cant restore my contacts from computer or icloud ?they disappear when i restore

    HI
I contacted Apple & did as below as advised & I got my contacts back.
Before I started I made sure that I had  a Icloud backup for my IPhone ( which was before the problem started ).[ Settings > ICloud > Backup. ]
IPhone reset - by 'Erase all contents & settings...
after the phone starts, choose to restore from Icloud backup.. & choose the Backup you think is without the issue.
VERY IMPORTANT.. Once the phone restores from the backup & the Home screen comes, put the phone in Airplane mode Immediately.
Now go to settings > Icloud > put the contacts OFF. ( Keep the contacts )
Now OFF the Airplane mode & go to settings > Icloud > put the contacts ON & select Merge.
I got all my contacts back which was there until that Backup.
    Thanks again  - Apple support.

  • Why did all my contacts suddenly disappear?

Yesterday morning all my contacts were suddenly gone from my iphones and macbooks.  I didn't do anything to my icloud or either device, so I am really confused as to what has happened.  Recreating my contact list will take forever!!
The Photostream is also not working, but at least the pictures are on my phone so they aren't lost.
    Very Frustrating!!!

Hopefully you won't have to recreate your Contacts...
On the Macs open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Contacts and Photo Stream then reselect then restart the Macs.
On the iPhones tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Contacts and Photo Stream off then back on then restart the devices.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Newly added contacts suddenly become strangers (not shared their details with you)

A newly added contact suddenly disappears after a few minutes, it's still present in my contact list, but with the gray question mark and "this person has not shared their details with you", even though in the conversation itself it says "<friend> has shared contact details with <myself>". On the other side, it seems like none of this is happening and my friend can still see my status as if I was their contact (which I am). After re-sending the contact request multiple times (which is instantly accepted, it doesn't seem to even display on my friend's side, he just instantly becomes my contact again) it seems to have sorted itself out and that person is now in my contacts, hopefully for good. Now yesterday I added a new contact and the same thing happens, she appears as a stranger about 10 minutes after accepting my contact request, even though it seemed fine on the mobile app while she was online, but now even mobile considers her as not part of my contacts, and also her profile picture isn't displaying on the mobile app. Note : there is already a thread about this in the Skype for Windows Desktop section, however since this problem has clearly nothing to do with the client you're using and is related to the platform/whatever software runs on Microsoft's servers, I'm reposting this here. Skype for Windows Desktop version 6.20.0.104 running on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and Skype for iPhone version "idon'tknowwhat because there's no "about" page apparently" running on iOS 8.0.2, iPhone 5S. My Skype account isn't linked with any Facebook nor Microsoft account (it was, but it's been unlinked about two months ago). To avoid this thread the same fate as the linked one, that is becoming polluted by some smart-ass that believes everything is caused by a virus, corruption of the Skype folder in AppData or compromised account, let me state this right now : my password was changed, the account isn't compromised (checked with /showplaces and the only logged in clients are my desktop and my iPhone) and the AppData folder was already deleted, without success (it made things worse my making my entire contact list disappear for 24h, fortunately they slowly came back one by one), so if you have nothing to say please refrain from copy/pasting such useless answers.

Hi, I hope someone can help me.  I have a similar problem to Andre (from original post a week ago below).  I only use Skype to communicate with a personal friend who has recently been posted abroad (Europe) to work.  I always sign in via my Microsoft account and have done since Microsoft & Skype merged and I linked the two together.  My contact does the same.  As my accounts are linked, my friend shows up in my contacts both as a Skype contact and also a Messenger contact.  When we communicate, it is normally always via our Skype names although I can see them online under both names.  On Friday night however, they came online but shortly afterwards, I noticed that the grey question mark had appeared next to their Skype name saying 'Person has not shared their contact details with you'.  They are still showing up ok under their Messenger name as it appears as offline, so I have been a bit confused why this has happened and I haven't yet had a chance to speak to my friend to ask them.  I decided to look at the Skype help forum and came across this post by Andre who has had a similar problem, although he says it has happened with a couple of new contacts but his problem has now been resolved.  I was hoping someone could help me and give me some advice as to what I should do now.  I have checked my computer and have the latest Skype version for desktop installed.  I am using Internet Explorer 11; Windows 7 Home version - 64 bit.  I also have the Skype app on my android smartphone which has the most recent updated version.  I don't really use Skype on my phone although I did log-in on late Friday afternoon but didn't stay on long before I signed out.  I have read in posts in the past about corrupted files etc on Skype but because I don't know much about these things,  I don't like to mess about with the programs that are installed on my computer because I don't know what I'm doing. The person who responded to Andre's query was a staff moderator called Aimi, who had previously told him to send the name of the contact in question who had the grey question mark appear beside them.  I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this problem as I would like it sorted out as soon as possible please. Thanks, Linda F. AndréDaniel wrote:A newly added contact suddenly disappears after a few minutes, it's still present in my contact list, but with the gray question mark and "this person has not shared their details with you", even though in the conversation itself it says "<friend> has shared contact details with <myself>". On the other side, it seems like none of this is happening and my friend can still see my status as if I was their contact (which I am). Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    At last, the BEST solution!
In addition to my last post, here is the solution for fixing this problem without syncing your contacts with icloud.
It takes about 2 minutes and permanently solves the problem so you can start adding and editing your contacts again on IOS 5.1.1!
Basically you just need to follow these steps from the Settings page:
    Enable Airplane Mode
    Go to iCloud settings
    Turn on Contacts
    Agree to 'Merge Contact'
Wait for pop up to confim iCloud contacts are on
    Turn off Contacts
Confirm that you want to Keep your Contact on the iPhone
Wait for pop up to confim iCloud contacts are off
    Disable Airplane Mode
Airplane Mode temporarily blocks all phone signal/data to stop your contacts merging with icloud.
Thanks to Washyman and Drewie77 for that info above! I got it from this post and it worked fine.
