Half of music library gone when transfering to new computer.

attempting to move my itunes library to a new computer have done this before and it usually works just fine.  For whatever reason this time around half my library seems to be missing albums I have imported are missing, songs purchased through itunes are missing, any suggestions?

Redo the transfer...?
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • Library gone and ipod memory wiped when transfering to new computer.

I have done this numerous times before with various ipod's withoud incident. I am not sure what I did wrong this time, but it appears that ALL of my music is gone. Is it gone forever, or do I have a chance at getting at least some of it back? Perhaps because of the upgrade to the software? Or that the the computer I have is running Windows 2010? Any help would be appreciated.
Unfortunately, for some reason, when I went to go back and sync the ipod back to the previous computer the pod erased that library as well.

An iPod can only sync with one iTunes library. If you sync with another library (like another computer), iTunes will erase the iPod and replace it contents with what is in the iTunes library of that computer.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • I have a new computer and have downloaded some new CD's to my music Library.  When synching the new songs will not download even though there is abundant room on the Ipod and the new songs are checked.  Could this be a Windows 8 issue?

I have purchased another computer with the Windows 8 OS.  When trying to synch the Ipod to capture some new music I have recently downloaded, the new songs will not show up on my IPod even though I have checked each one to synch.  Any ideas?

I have a syncing issue involved with putting music on my iphone i am also using windows 8 so who knows?...

  • HT203433 prior music library transfer from ipad to new computer help

i bought a new computer because my old one crashed and i lost all my info how do i transfer all of the previous music i had on my ipad to itunes match.

    Syncing with new computer
This is an extract from one of our senior participant; hope he doesn't mind me reproducing it here
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

  • Previously purchased songs interrupted when transferring to new computer and showing available in iTunes store

New computer purchased, Transferred purchased songs from iTunes to library. 5 were interrupted and will  not transfer over.  All songs are showing available in iTunes store.  How do I fix?

How are they showing in the Music part of your iTunes library ? If they are greyed out and you can't delete them from there then do you have a downward pointing arrow at the top right of the iTunes screen next to the search field e.g.
If you do then click on that and you should get a popup window, can you resume their download or delete them from that window ? If you can delete them they should then show as available for downloading via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage for redownloading

  • Lost music off ipod when connected to new computer....

Found an ipod (never had one before and don't know much about it). Plugged it into my new computer, and all the music on the ipod disappeared. Didn't show up in my iTunes library. Found some of the music in My Computer, but not all music was listed there. I thought all songs had been deleted, but iPod shows most of it's memory is still being used. Question #1: Why are only some of the songs showing in My Computer? Question #2: Is there any way to retrieve all the "lost" music? Question #3: Why is iPod memory so full if I can't see any music on the iPod? Sorry to be so clueless!

This ipod was lost at a ski resort and we gave the owner 2 years to inquire about it, which he never did. After a customer has been contacted about a lost item and doesn't reply that season, the item is donated or given to employees to pick and choose from. We gave him 2 years.
You would be suprised how many ipods, cell phones, car keys, etc. are lost and never inquired about.
I reset the ipod to it's original factory settings and have a buddy who is going to download the songs from his ipod to mine. Since we like the same type of music this will work best for me since most of the music originally on the ipod was crap anyway.
Thanks for you snide comment instead of answering my question Chris.

  • Cannot sync to old nano when transferred to new computer.

I recently transferred all my music from an old computer to a new laptop, using the Home Sharing option.  This was after I tried using another method, which was given on the Apple support page for transferring the music.  When I looked at the music on the laptop, only 117 of 844 were there.  So, I used the Home Sharing option.  I now have all the music on the laptop, but when I went to sync it to the nano, I received the message that I couldn't sync it, because I needed an additional 2.7 GB of space.  All the music in the iTunes library came from the nano, so I don't know why this occurred.
Should I reinitialize the nano and attempt to sync again, or is there another option?
    Thanks!

As it turns out, I was able to restore my nano to factory settings, using instructions I found elsewhere on this site.  Then, I synced it to my iTunes library, and all appears to be well.
I hope my question and answer helps someone!

weird very weird. today i did this again today after already being unsuccessful earlier. exactly the same thing as i have done before, exactly. didn't try to import. didn't say damaged library, copied everything in including date. have tried it about 10 times no luck. today it just worked.
    how weird is that?
oh well JG - maybe you mixed a magic potion for me?
anyway, thank you for all the help.
to anyone else reading this all i can say is keep trying, you never know. follow the above advice. you may feel exasperated and think you have done it already, but keep trying.
    cheers

  • I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod shuffle it rearranged the tracks so that they are in the wrong order.  How can I put them in the order they appear in the book?

I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod Shuffle it put the chapters in the wrong order i.e. Chap 1, Chap 10, Chap 11 etc. rather than Chap 1, Chap 2, Chap 3 ...  How can I get it to put them in the order they appear in the book?

First, we need to know if the audiobook chapters are being treated by iTunes as music files or as audiobooks. If they are not audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store, they might be getting "shuffled". You will need to look at "File" - "Properties" (I think - I don't use iTunes under Windows - or right-click on the file and choose "properties") and look at the media type. If it is "Music", change it to "Audiobook". If this is not the problem, or does not fix anything, please post back.
Actually, looking at your post again, a second thought occurs to me - assuming there are less than 100 chapters in the book, just renaming them with a leading zero on the first nine chapters might do it. A computer will alphabetically sort filenames in the order you quote (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... 2, 21, etc.) but a leading zero will fix that (01, 02, 03 ... 10, 11, 12)

2nd > I purchased 21 new tunes yesterday on the new computer> worked great> but when I made a disc to transfer the playlist. I get the music but no album info just 1,2,3,etc. So I have signup both computers to share thinking that would work. But no to that also.
    Please advise.
