Half of the bookmarks in my bookmarks toolbar have disappeared.

I think this happened after a recent update. I still have the first half of my bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar but the second half have disappeared. I still have all my other bookmarks but my history has also disappeared along with the most frequently visited sites (when you open up Firefox). It wouldn't be a big problem, but I tried to put the bookmarks back onto my bookmarks toolbar and they had disappeared again when I restarted Firefox. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello,
If you are able to add, delete, rearrange, and make other changes to your bookmarks but your changes are lost whenever you restart Firefox, try these solutions.
Note: It is recommended that you disable any extensions related to bookmarks, as explained here, before proceeding with the solutions suggested below.
Fix the Bookmarks file
* If your changes to your bookmarks do not appear when you restart Firefox, the issue may be that your bookmarks file is write-protected. A write-protected file can't be changed, which prevents Firefox from saving any changes you have made.
Allow Firefox to save bookmark changes:
* Open your profile folder:
* At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button, go over to the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information.
* The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
* Under the Application Basics section, click on Show Folder. A window with your profile files will open.
Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.
* At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select Exit
* Right-click the file places.sqlite, and select Properties to open the Properties window.
* In the Properties window, select the General tab. Near the bottom of the window, verify that Read-only is NOT selected.
See image:

Bookmarks and browsing history are stored in the Firefox profile folder in the file places.sqlite. If there is a problem with this file, your bookmark changes may be lost whenever you restart Firefox. You can force Firefox to create another places.sqlite file by deleting the existing one.
You might want to print these directions out, or copy them down to reference because you will have to close Firefox to delete the files.
Warning: Once you delete the places.sqlite file, you will lose all of your browsing history.
Open your profile folder:
* At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button, go over to the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information. The * Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
* Under the Application Basics section, click on Show Folder. A window with your profile files will open.
Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.
* At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select Exit
* In your profile folder, delete the places.sqlite file and, if it exists, places.sqlite-journal.
* (Optional) Also delete the file localstore.rdf. This will reset any toolbar customizations you have made.
* Firefox will create a new places.sqlite file and automatically import the most recent bookmark backup file. Your bookmarks will be backed up, but you will lose your browsing history

  • I just installed Firefox 29.01 and the text labels on my toolbar have disappeared and there doesnt seem to be a way to put them back. How do I do this?

MY QUESTION IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE USER BELOW ASKED (WHICH I HAVE PASTED BELOW), AND HE GOT A STANDARD (AND USELESS) RHETORICAL ANSWER FROM THE SUPPORT STAFF. PLEASE LOOK AT THE SPECIFIC QUESTION ASKED AND DO NOT ANSWER WITH A GENERIC ANSWER LIKE "THIS IS HOW TO ACCESS THE CUSTOMIZATION SCREEN" BECAUSE I FOUND THE CUSTOMIZATION SCREEN WITHOUT HAVING TO ASK AND THAT SCREEN DOES NOT SHOW HOW TO TURN ON THE FEATURE I NEED! DO YOU WONDER WHY I USE ALL CAPS? IF YOU READ THE ACTUAL QUESTION WHEN IT WAS WRITTEN IN LOWER CASE, I WOULDN'T NEED TO USE ALL CAPS!
Last night I updated to Firefox 29.0.1. Now, I don't mind change - and I don't mind redesigns - but I HATE it when options are removed. I want text labels on my buttons (the "Home" button for example"). In the previous version of Firefox you could right-click in the grey space at the top, and select "customise". From there, you could drag and drop which things you wanted to appear in your toolbar or not - and there was a tickbox to selext if you wanted text labels to appear underneath them or not. Now as hard as I look, I can't find this option. It looks like you're now forcing people to ONLY use icons. I hate that. My brain processes the word "Home" a lot faster than it recognises a little picture of a house. You need to understand that people work in different ways - and just because the Firefox developers might not personally use the text labels, that doesn't mean that no-one does!

I agree with whereitis above, I hate it when options are removed (ex: the Bookmarks side panel (Ctrl-B) button missing) etc.. Firefox's major BOLD one-liner is: CUSTIMAZATION. Now to regain this CUSTIMAZATION freedom, Firefox suggest to solve this by installing the ADDON "Classic Theme Restorer". I don't want to install any ADDON to customize Firefox! I went with Firefox because it was CUSTOMIZABLE, and that is the only reason why I went with this web browser! Now, Firefox is asking me to add an ADDON to CUSTOMIZE it. What is this?!

  • Half of the photos in my completed books have disappeared.  How do I restore them?

I have 6 finished book projects on iPhoto.  On the most recent 5, half of the photos are gone.  The captions remain.  When I opened iPhoto recently it upgraded my photo library automatically.  After this happened, the books were altered.  How do I get them back the way I created them?  The instructions on iPhoto support for restoring photos from Time Machine do not make sense.

    To restore photos:
    Quit iPhoto.
    Connect your Time Machine drive.
In the Finder, open the folder containing your iPhoto Library. Unless you've moved your iPhoto Library, it can be found in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library.
Enter Time Machine.  (Time Machine can be found in the Dock or in the /Applications folder.)
Choose your desired backup. The timeline on the right side of the screen displays a purple tick mark for each of the backups stored on your Time Machine drive.
Select the iPhoto library you would like to restore, and click the Restore button.
iPhoto may prompt you to repair your library if there are some inconsistencies in your files. If so, please allow it to proceed by clicking the Repair button. If you notice blank thumbnails, reopen iPhoto while holding down the Command and Option keys. When the Rebuild iPhoto Library window appears, enable the "Rebuild all of the photos’ thumbnails" checkbox. This may take a long time, depending on the size of the library.
    Additional Information
Always quit iPhoto before restoring from Time Machine.
Time Machine canʼt do a full iPhoto Library backup when iPhoto is open. To ensure that Time Machine does a complete backup of your library, periodically quit iPhoto before backing up.
My Time Machine does not have a screen on the right side with purple tick marks.  Nor does it show any iPhoto libraries or give me a restore option.  BUT, perhaps it isn't really Time Machine, as it's icon reads: My Passport.   So I may be out of luck with the Time Machine Option anyway.

If you mean you're about to perform a restore from a backup to a new device, it depends on the app.  Some will retain their passwords, some will not.  That's my experience.

  • All of the photos in my text messages have disappeared and been replaced with a question mark image. Where did they go?

I updated my ios two or three weeks ago, but suddenly beginning this morning all of the photos in my text messages have disappeared. They have been replaced with question mark placeholders. I can't access any videos/photos that either I have sent or others have sent to me. I did nothing to instigate this change (no software updates, etc.) and have already tried resetting my phone multiple times.
    Thank you!!

I have the same condition on my iPhone only. I also have an iPad, a Macbook Air and an iMac that share the same iCloud account. Messages with photos seem to work fine on all devices except my iPhone.  All of a sudden all the photos in my iPhone message streams have disappeared and been replace by question mark placeholders. I rebooted all devices, shut down messages, and rebooted, restarted, with no luck. Very bizarre and extremely frustrating. Any suggestions?

  • Help! When I go to mail, the bin and forward icon etc have disappeared

Please can you help? Help! When I go to mail, the bin and forward icon etc have disappeared

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • The CC and Bcc address fields have disappeared, all blue with no option below the To:

I am unable to add CC or Bcc as the address space beneath the To: has disappeared, it is blue like the surrounding area. So I have FROM; then TO: beneath as usual......... then nothing till SUBJECT:
In the To: box when I start an email address and several predictions appear, if I select one nothing appears. I have to type until the address I require appears in the To: box then if I click on it, the address stays. Then I want to send to multiple addresses there is nowhere to add them. If I Return from the To: box the address disappears.
Sorry it sounds so woolly but it's so hard to explain/understand. Seems to have been lost around the time of an upgrade to T.
    Grateful for any help.

Mananged to drag dividing bar down and after completing To; box the return does create another To: which I can change to Cc: etc When I go back in to write another message I'm back at square one thanks.''Toad-Hall [[#answer-683355|said]]''
    <blockquote>
It would be helpful if you could provide a screen shot of what you see to help convey the issue.
At the moment, it sounds like you have only one TO field displaying.
then when you add the email address it scrolls up - out of view - and then presents a new empty TO field.
When a TO field scrolls up there should be a scroll bar allowing you to see previously entered email addresses.
However, if there is only one TO field, it is possible that the scroll bar is not displaying.
    Try this:
    In a new Write message
    Drag the dividing bar downwards.
    See image below.
Move the mouse so it hovers over the dividing bar shown as red in the image. The cursor should change to a double headed arrow, then left click and hold down to grab the line.
Drag the line downwards to reveal more TO fields.

  • Bookmarks on Mountain LionBookmark logos have disappeared on Mountain Lion

All my bookmarks have lost their little web logos and now just show a blue ball.  I could not find anything in privacy setting to fixx.  Any ideas?  Not a huge deal but irratating.

Did you clear Safari's history? If so, that now throws away a lot of useful stuff. Poorly designed change. See Safari's help.

  • Just want to ask about the full screen icon that used to be on the play bar but seems to have disappeared since upgrade to mountain lion, any way to get it back?

Since upgrading to mountain lion I've noticed the full screen icon which used to be on the playback bar in quicktime has gone, I know you can go to the menus to make it full screen but if you're watching something online like with apple trailers I can't seem to make them fullscreen anymore, is it me or have they just taken this option away now?

I've been playing the trailers in my browser and the full screen option has gone for me,
As already stated, the icon was replaced by the "Share" pop-up menu icon in the same location.
and the command-f keys don't work either when I'm playing in a browser and it's truly only been since I upgraded to mountain lion.
Strange! It works for me. Here is a link to a screen recording of me wayching a trailer in Safari and later watching a trailer download. In both cases the trailer could be expsnded for full screen viewing and then reduced back to the size of the original 720p player display screen. If you can't do this then you may have a player problem also.

Why did apple make these changes when they worked perfectly the old way, I mean if it ain't broke don't fix it!
Only Apple whould know for sure but my guess would be that other users may have requested the "Share" pop-up more. Makes no difference to me because I normally use the key shortcuts anyway.

  • After downloading iOS 6 on my new I phone 5 both the FaceTime and iMessage app icons have disappeared yet if you go into settings they are both still turned on, I have searched my full device to find these apps and nothing has showed up. How do I get them

Basically I have downloaded iOS 6 on my new iPhone and both the FaceTime and iMessage app appeared to have been wiped from the phone but if you look on settings it says they are both turned on. how do I get these features back on my phone?

They could be on another page on your iPhone, try doing a search for the apps.  If you still don't see them restart your iPhone by holding down the on/off and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.  If you are still having problems try to reset your home screen.
