Half the screen is white in normal mode, but totally visible on full screen mode.

I'm new to the Mac world so still finding my way around. I have a Snow Leopard OS X which only displays half the screen - the other half is white - when playing a game or reading a newspaper online. Could it be a graphic card problem? Any help would be appreciated, thanks

You could try using Firefox's Safe Mode to reset your toolbars. Not sure whether this is a toolbar problem, but it's probably worth a try.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, check this article on how to start Firefox in
[https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] and use the dialog to reset toolbars.
Any luck?

  • HT1320 hey i have an ipod touch 2nd gen and its a little cracked and half the screen isnt touch screen anymore how do i fix it

hey i have a 2nd gen ipod touch and its a little cracked and half the screen isnt touch screen anymore what do i do

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How do I get rid of the images taking up half the screen?

Just got a Classic 160 and I love it EXCEPT for the fact that half the screen is taken up by a useless image. I want to use the full width of the screen for the title/artist, etc., So if I'm listening to a song from "The Skiffle Sessions: Live in Belfast" with Van Morrison, Lonnie Donegan, and Chris Barber, I get the full information instead of "Van Morrison, Lonnie ..." and "The Skiffle Sessions: L ..."
Please, how do I get rid of the useless image?!?!?!?!?!

I THINK it doesn't work. When you connected your iPod, click on the iPod in iTunes, click the music tab. there you got a list of playlists (most likely grayed out) and below there there should be something like "include music videos" (or something similiar. i'm not using the english version of iTunes, so the text could differ slightly. and right below that there should be an option "show covers on ipod" (again, the text could differ. but the meaning should be the same.) uncheck that and save it. if this option doesn't show: do you have the newest iTunes version?

Not much you can do other than to take or send your iPad to Apple and pay their replacement charge.

  • Youtube app - side menu takes up half the screen

Anyone know why the youtube app for iPad displays the side menu taking up half the screen, squeezing the list of video/thumbs to the right?  It is just empty space with no purpose.

Like in the screenshot ? It happened after YouTubes last update. I'm surprized it hasn't been fixed yet.

  • Whilst pausing losing half the screen.

Is it necessary to lose half the screen whilst pausing/ff/rew a program. Can it be changed in the settings?

    Unfortunately no there isn't
I too find it frustrating as I sometimes use pause to read the credits as they scroll far too fast but having the info bar cover the bottom  of the screen makes this difficult

  • Half the screen on my 2010 27" imac just went grey today.  I just bought it six weeks ago.  Is this a common problem.  I am getting a headache ... grey

Half the screen on my 2010 27" mac just went grey today.  I bought the computer six weeks ago.  Is this a common problem with the monitor?

I think there's some provision for a home visit if you have AppleCare. Don't know about the standard warranty. Maybe you can arrange to ship it? Give them a call on Tuesday. Bummer.

  • Display has white and grey lines and blocks crisscrossing it and touch functions are not working properly on half the screen.

I dropped my iPhone 5S and it landed flat on it's face (it was in a protective case).  Since then my touch screen display is not working properly. I have white and grey lines and/or blocks crisscrossing the screen both horizontally and vertically.  Screen responds to touch in odd random ways, but rarely does what I am trying to do.  Can't call or receive calls because can't dial or answer phone via swipe. Can't text or read incoming texts. All functions seem to be working except that I can't access them because the touch screen is acting up. If I move the phone around it randomly accesses different apps or functions, but I have no control over them once the appear on the screen.  Touching screen just causes phone to randomly choose something else to open.  What have I damaged?

We cannot possibly tell. Obviously some hardware inside. Take it in to an Apple Store. They will offer you the opportunity to swap the phone for $269 in the US. Prices vary by country.

  • Half the screen is blank

So my nano did the whole freeze up thing... again. Except this time when i turned it on the top half of the screen was blank. It works "normally" besides that. Is there a way to fix this or do i need to get an entirely new ipod?

the screen wasnt cracked (at least not the outside of it or any place visable). but i finally took it in to the Apple Store in a mall near my house and the tech guy there said it was a malfunction and they gave me a new one for $29 (unless you want to buy the extended warrenty then it $59).
Hope this helps others that have the same prob

  • Imac with half the screen psychedelic

Mid-2008 iMac with "ATA Radeon HD 2400 XT" graphics card.  Just started going psychedelic on the exact left side of the screen.  Intermittent it seems but getting more permanent with use.  Everything works with the new colors, mouse clicks, etc., but the colors are all wierd and everything is fuzzed up.  Screenshot ends up looking like all is normal so I'm assuming this is a screen/graphic issue.
So I ran hardware test and it passed with no faults.  I reinstalled the OS (archive and install) with no improvement.  And I'm typing on the right hand side of the screen as the left is not usable.
From what I have found on similar problems online, this is a very expensive fix and not worth the cost of the repair when compared with new.  Questions:
Any other actions, tests, diagnostics I can take to confirm problem or (perhaps) repair?
If this is logic board or such, expensive to fix as I suspect?
Is this to be expected from a 3 1/2 year old machine?  My iBook is going on 7 years with no problems other than a dull screen and dead battery.
Given that I would not chance a new iMac again if this turns out ugly, what Mac alternative might be more reliable?
What to do with the old machine?  Ideas?
Yes I had bought Applecare, no I'm not criticizing Apple.  But I cannot afford a machine that is throwaway at 40 months.

Thought I'd update this in the hopes of getting at least a single idea or reply.  Took the machine to the Apple Store where the Genius Bar folks wired up a second monitor and confirmed (at least they think so) that it's the screen and not some hardware issue.
The problem is the intermittency of the whole problem.  For the past two weeks the screen has been fine, no psycedelic colors.  Now, I'm typing on the right half of my screen because the exact left side is all 60's mind-bending colors.  Everything works over there, but unless I can somehow do drugs only in my left eye, I'm stuck with a half a screen to work with.
Apple wants $400 to change out the screen, but I 1. don't trust it's the screen since it works SOME of the time, and 2. don't want to spend 1/3 the cost of new on a 3 1/2 year old computer.  Unfortunately I'm also leery right now about another Mac.  Fortunately my seven year old iBook is still plugging along.
    So, any suggestions?

  • Only half the screen updated in Camera Raw.

My system stopped updating half of the screen for camera raw. If i make a change in Camera raw, it only updates half the picture. I have to drag the window onto my second screen and back to see the entire image updated.
This did not occur from the beginning.
I am using an EVGA GeForce 8600GT 512 MB Video Card. The system is a quad core with 4 GB of ram running Windows XP.
One monitor is a 30" LP3065 (this is the one which is not updating).
    The other is a 20.1" dell 2001FP
Anyone know what would cause this to occur. It has greatly slowed down my work flow.
    Thanks

Also, can you swap the video cables connecting the monitors in order to rule out a defective cable or connection on one of the outputs of the graphics card?

  • Mailbox view: half the screen inbox, half the selected email.

Since I starting using mail, it has always been that half of the screen was my inbox, or whichever folder I'm in, and the other half would be the selected email. I could easily scroll through the messages and they would change as the highlighted subject would change. However, I must have done something to change it because now all I have is a full view of my inbox and if I want to see the email I have to double-click and it opens a new window. I hate extra steps. I want it back to the way it was, but I can't figure it out. I'm sure it's simple but I've been through all the options and none seem to work....what do I do? Thanks in advance.
