Halftone printing on Epson NX625 colour printer

I need to print grayscale halftones from my colour Epson printer. I have converted the photos to grayscale by changing the mode in Photoshop but the Epson printer still prints with 4-colours. I would like to screen them into halftones for printing and ultimately photocopying. Is this possible on the Epson NX625? I am running OS X Lion version 10.7.2 on iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5. I can't seem to resolve this with Epson support.

  • Crystal report printing using epson dot matrix printer (continouos paper)

Hi there, im tiff from the philippines.
i have a  question on printing using a crystal report. How do i print using epson continuous printer(dot matrix)? im having a problem printing to that type of printer specially using continuous paper. the first page is correct but unfortunately the succeeding pages are not. its automatically adjusted upon reaching the second page. hope you can help me.
thanks a lot and looking forward to hear from you soon.

Check with the printer manufacturer that the matrix printer is Unicode compliant. If it is not, it will  not work with Crystal Reports. If it is, make sure you have the latest printer driver updates.

  • Second page not printing on EPSON dot matrix

    Hi Experts,
I have created a Smart Form which has 2 pages. I am able to see the Print Preview correctly of 2 pages, (Spool also shows correctly),  but when I give the print on EPSON DOT MATRIX PRINTER, only one page is getting printed. Somewhere it seems that second page is getting overlapped on the first page. Its very strange behieveour. Dont know why its happening.
    Any ideas ??

I have done it. Well issue was:  \f command needs to be used when you create the custom page in the device type--->formats->your custom page----End of page.
In end of page simply write \f and printer will stop over writing the pages
    Thanks.

  • Epson Artisan 1430 printing problems

When using PSE 9 to control printing using a paper-specific ICC profile (as I am used to doing), all output from my new Epson Artisan 1430 A3+ printer had a green cast. This was not a problem when printing the same images to a Canon A4 printer. After trying many variations, I could obtain acceptable output if I had the printer rather than PSE control output with Printer Preferences set to Colour Controls>AdobeRGB.
A review of this printer from what I consider a highly credible source (http://www.photoreview.com.au/reviews/printers/epson-artisan-1430-inkjet-printer) stated that similar results could be obtained with either PSE or the printer controlling output. (Incidently, using another software package to print (Corel PaintShop Pro 4) also gave atrocious results.)
Checking with Espon support, I have the most current version of the Epson drivers.
    1) Should I just accept that I need to abandon what is generally accepted as best practice and have the Espon control output rather than PSE
    or
    2) Do I have a faulty printer?

At times it is possible that due to system/app/printer manufacturer settings we do not get the desired print output. In such cases it is wise to choose printer manages color and then choose appropriate color profile to print with. You can also try printing from Elements Organizer with same settings and check if it is fine.

Hopefully resetting the printer preferences to default and then changing the settings as appropriate like paper type etc should help.

  • Epson 740 Inkjet won't print from Epson Driver!

    Hi All,
I've just recently upgraded to Tiger, from Jaguar, and all was well...until today! My colour printer is an Epson Stylus 740 and it was printing perfectly yesterday but now the all jobs are "Stopped"!
If I click on "Start Jobs" the progress bar appears then, after a couple of seconds, vanishes and I'm back to "Jobs Stopped" with the file still in the print queue. That's it! No other indication of a fault or problem.
I have now configured the printer via Gimp Print (V5.0.0) and it works fine. So the printer is ok but I'd like to use the Epson driver as I'm used to it and know how to get the results I want.
If this was OS 9 I'd suspect a corrupted file in the spool folder but, even though I've used OS X for years, I don't even know if there still is a spool folder! I certainly can't find one.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    John

There are tons of posts on similar problems in this forum. Do a search for stopped jobs and you'll see. There are a lot of suggested fixes, it sounds like some work for some people and not for others. Also, although it sounds like it's usually Epson printers, it's not always. And it's all different models. I have an Epson Stylus CX6600. I haven't had a chance to try all the fixes yet, but one that did work for a couple months for me was this:
Before printing, go into your application's "Page setup" option and make sure that the "Format for" says your printer and not "Any printer." I'm not sure why this works but it's even on the Epson tech support website in their troubleshooter. You will have to do this for every application and it quit working for me after I updated to 10.4.5, but maybe it could be a temporary fix for you as well.
Please post if you come up with a more permanent solution!

  • How do I calibrate my display to my epson 1430 artisan printer?

I have purchased a macbook pro and have been using illustrator and photoshop to design posters. I then purchased a Epson artisan 1430 printer. And the colours are way off. The screen colours are lovely and vibrant and the print colours are much more dull.
I have been told I need to calibrate my macbook to the printer settings? I'm very new at this and would love some layman's terms instructions if anyone has any?
    Thank you!

It can be a long and expensive route from getting to screen calibration to printer calibration. This -> http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints.html is a good starting point if you don't wish to spend a great sum.

  • Printing with Epson

Curious to know what I am missing and if their are any forums you would recommend I go to for further advice.
Using a Windows Vista operating system I'm attempting to print using PSE on an Epson R1800. Everything checks out fine with the printer and monitor because when I print rendered images using the Window Photo Gallery I get an almost identical match to what I see on screen. I would prefer to use the extra controls in PSE though.
PSE is set up in the Adobe RGB colour space. Settings I have tried in the PSE printer driver are both to let the Printer Manage Colour and Photoshop Manage Colour. Neither produce accurate results. The Printer Profile I choose is an exact match to the Epson paper I am using - Luster. Rendering intent is Relative Colormetric.
Settings in the Epson Printer Driver are Best Photo - ICM - No Color Adjustment checked.
Printed images appear too dark and somewhat saturated.
I'm addressing this issue here since my assumption is the settings I have chosen in PSE are causing the problems. As mentioned above, when I don't use PSE results are much more accurate. I have even tried all the same settings in CS5, but with no improvement. I've tried a number of other settings in the Epson printer driver, but things just seem to get worse.
    Thank you for your consideration.
    Deep Woods

I followed all suggestions and here is my results...
    I've printed from 3 sources:
    1. Windows Photo Gallery (The utility installed with Vista).
    2. PSE 8
    3. CS5
The most accurate results thus far comes from Windows Photo Gallery. The printed image is identical to the image displayed on the monitor, both in brightness and colour. If this utility allowed me to adjust the position of an image on the page, my problem would be solved.
A very close second place is the image printed from PSE 8. Colours are pretty accurate. The image is printing slightly darker and probably as a result of this, colours look a little too saturated. Settings that work in the PSE printer driver are "PSE Manages Colour" - "Relative Colorimetric" - and I choose the paper profile of the paper I'm using. In the Epson printer driver, "ICM" - "No Colour Adjustment" checked.
The worst results comes from CS5. Both in the CS5 printer driver and in the Epson printer driver I tried a wide range of combinations, first using "Photoshop Manages Colour" and than using "Printer Manages Colour" I've even tried changing the colour settings from sRGB to Adobe RGB to PhotoRGB. The best results thus far comes when I choose "Printer Manages Colour". I turn "ICM" off in the Epson printer driver and use "Colour Controls" with the saturation cranked completely over to the right side. Doing this gets me closer to accuracy, but I'm left with washed out skin tones and a slightly green colour cast.
My primary question is why does CS5 not give me the same results as PSE 8 when I choose the same settings in each program and why would the Windows Photo Gallery give me the best results of all?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Printing problem: epson R2880 , CS5 + 6, OS Mountain Lion

    Hi There,
First of all apologies if this is in the wrong thread, If so, could an admin please move it to a correct one?
I have searched google and these forums for an asnwer but am still having the same problem.
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion (from Snow leopard) my prints are not coming out well at all, it's mostly the reds which ae not vibrant at all, and coming out very orange.
I have tried numurous variations of settings:
photoshops manages colors, printer manages colors, relative, perceptual, made sure printer maanages colors is off, different paper types etc.
*I took screen shots of every setting to match to the prints so can post if neccesarry
I have also tried printing from Preview and LR 4, still having the same problem.
I even tried printing on a different machine with Snow Leopard installed (but was foreced to update to the latest Epson driver (9.0.2).
Does anyone have any idea where the problem could be?
I've been trying to print my portfolio for an important meeting and this has taken up about a full day of trial/error tests.
    OS: Mountain Lion
Printer: epson R2880 (Px 5600 in Japan) Driver (9.0.2)
Paper: epson Photo crispia / Superfine Matte (making sure to switch out the matte blak and photo black cartridges eveytime)
    SW: CS5, CS6, LR 4
    Thanks in advance,
    Jake

Apologies for the legth of this post but it needs it.
For 3 years I have struggled to get a B&W print without a magenta colour cast.
My old printer, an Epson 1400, only had 1 black so I thought this was to blame and bought a new Epson R2880 with 3 blacks earlier this year..
    My setup is
    CS5
    Fotospeed paper
    Fotospeed Crystal dye inks
    Profiles for each paper.
    A calibrated screen
    Windows 7
All drivers etc are up to date.
Because it was originally loaded with Epson inks, I used the Advanced B&W (ABW) setting to print B&W photos, which were actually very good considering I wasn't using Epson paper. When the Epson ink ran out, I changed to Fotospeed Crystal dye inks with profiles.
I have successfully printed colour photos with the new setup for a couple of months.
Yesterday I had a batch of photos to print so I set the system up to Photoshop Manages Colour etc (PMC). ( I know what I am doing here)
The first, a colour print, printed OK.
Because the second was a B&W, I did a test print using ABW and then a test print using PMC. The ABW had a magenta colour cast, the PMC printed B&W so I printed actual size with PMC and it worked great.
The third photo, another B&W, I again used PMC and did a small test print - it printed magenta. This was only minutes after printing photo 2.
I did the usual messing around with perceptual and relative col. and quality and max. quality setting, PSD v Tiff etc. and everything came out magenta.
Shutdown PC and went to bed. Printer remained switched on to save on ink cleaning routines.
    Today.
    Booted up PC.
Did a small test print using PMC and it came out B&W - no colour cast. ??????
Printed full size and it came out B&W no colour cast. On checking the print I noticed some blown highlights so went back into CS5 and did some adjustments to recover the highlights.
Tried a small test print with PMC and it printed magenta. Again, only minutes between the two prints and it goes from B&W to magenta.
Closed everything down and did a PC restart. Tried again with PMC and still magenta.
Several magenta attempts later and I nearly gave up the will to live.
Had a brainwave - I have Canon Digital Photo Professional on my machine as I use Canon cameras so I tried to directly print from the Canon software.
If this printed B&W then it would indicate a problem between CS5 and Epson. If it didn't work then it would absolve CS5
The software allows you to select paper profiles etc in a similar way to CS5 and I also set up the Epson software as no colour adjustment (just like when you use CS5)
Tried a test print and it printed B&W.
Went straight away into CS5 and printed the same test photo using PMC and it printed magenta.
Went straight back to the Canon software and printed a full size print and it printed B&W.
Can someone from Adobe please explain why
CS5 and the Canon software must be using the same print driver yet one of them is successful and the other isn't?
Why, when using CS5 to manage colours, two prints, two minutes apart can change from B&W to magenta?
It suggests to me that the CS5 software is not handling the Epson driver correctly (or vice versa) and double profiling is occuring. In any event users of these products should rightly expect one of you to pick up the ball and run with it and not just blame each other.
So my third question is - will Adobe run with the ball?

  • Epson Photo R3000 prints as a negative, what is causing the interference?

    Hi All
A frustrating morning, new printer arrives (yay!),  but now I find my new Epson Photo R3000 prints fine from photoshop but prints come out as a negative image from aperture
I've already turned the printer settings to use colorsync rather than the epson engine for colour management to no avail - I have to assume that there's something in aperture that is being applied that is causing the issue, but just can't see what.
I can't be the first to find this as an issue with a new epson out of the box, Can anyone point me to where i can turn off whatever is causing the interference?
    Best Regards
    JT

interesting - this got me in the right direction.
Aperture was set to 'black and white', the printer dialogue was usign colorsync to enforce a paper profile generated by i1profiler an and i1io (or an epson profile).
when i set aperture's rendering brick to do it all 'in the printer' it's fine.
Cheers, knew it'd be something dumb!

  • CS3, Epson 2880 - Dark Prints

Hopefully some one might be able to help as I am a tad stumped with a problem of dark prints from CS3 on an Epson 2880.
    Macbook Pro with 10.4 Tiger
    I have a calibrated monitor
CS3 setup with American Prepress colour settings
Raw picture imported into CS3 with Adobe RGB profile
So I edit the picture as required and then open the print window where I tell photoshop to manage the colours and select the correct ICC profile for my printer and paper. I then go to the Epson print driver and select the correct media type and turn off colour management.
The picture that is printed is 1 to 2 stops darker than what is should be.
Now the strange thing is if I use the Epson Print Plug-in the picture that it displays is generally dark like the print output.
If I didnt know better I would say that another ICC profile is being applied to the picture as it moves either to the print driver or to the Epson Plug-in.
If I check the picture in CS3 with proofing then I get a small colour change as expected but not the dark print that comes out.
Any suggestions much appreciated as this is doing my head in.

Please do a forum search. There are already at least two other threads on the subject of dark prints.

  • Prints From Epson Coming Out Dark/Orange Cast

    Hi,
I have an Epson PX710w and use Lightroom 2.4 64bit on Vista. I have putting out some prints over the last few days and have noticed that images with a lot of red in have been coming out slightly orange and all of them are darker than expected. Is there any reason for this? I have also tried printing through CS2 and have noticed a little improvement in the prints. I have also printed some of the images off on other printers with good results that match my monitor.
What I currently do in the Print module:
Colour Management: choose profile that matches printer and paper
    >
    Print properties >
    - Choose paper type
    - Colour Management > ICM > Off (No Colour Adjustment)
Then I go back and hit print...
    Any suggestions would be fantastic.

    I don't use a Colormunki..but what you say here
    kentmcpherson wrote:
In the calibration process, I have to turn my monitor Brightness control all the way to 0 to get to come close to what Colormunki wants.
I have to turn off the Enbale DDC Calibration function in the preferences or Colormunki sets my monitor so dark, I can barely see it.
sounds very strange. Usually when profiling a monitor and setting the luminance value (which is either called the brightness or backlight) control, you start from the brightest point the monitor will go to and then the device measures this and sets a recommended luminance value measured in cm2 (that is candles to the square meter) and you reset your monitor brightness until it matches the required value. Are you reading the instructions carefully as what you say here just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Setting the monitor to 0 (o what?) and saying the calibration device sets your monitor brightness (this will be done on the monitor controls not by a calibration device)
If you are also using the colomunki to make printer profiles I have heard of several serious problems with the device regarding this. I understand it makes icc v4 profiles and your printer drivers may use icc v 2...this will cause difficulties. You will usually be better using the canned profiles supplied by any paper manufacturer than attempting to make your own profiles with these cheaper end of the market devices in my experience.

  • Unable to print with Epson 3880 in LR3

I am no longer able to print with LR3 on my Epson 3880.  I have printed lots of photos on it in the past and when I have tried to print on it in the last few weeks, I go through the normal process on my Mac Pro with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and everything appears normal.  LR3 processes the photos and the Epson Icon pops up on my task bar and it shows the job as having been completed - but nothing prints.  The computer believes that it has successfully printed my photos.
I have tried deleting and adding the printer, but that has not helped.  I have also tested my connection through the Epson Status Monitor.  I can print a test page with that utility and check for the need to clean the print head.  The computer appears to be able to talk to the printer, but it won't print photos.
One other thing that appears a little unusual is that I can select a specific colour profile to use for my specific photo paper, but I can no longer find the setting in the printer driver that states 'Turn Off Colour Management'.
I have checked the software update twice and I have the latest updates installed.
I am stuck and need to print some photos for family.  Any suggestions are appreciated!
    Don

That is a good tip Andrew.  I believe that the driver was updated in the last couple of months and as I am not printing on a regular schedule, I didn't notice the problem.  With the fresh install from the Epson site, everything looks the way it should.
I am going to follow your advice and not update via Software Update.  I will install directly from Epson.  This is the first time in three and a half years on the Mac that I have had an issue like this.
    Thanks,
    Don

  • CS6 Printing with Epson ABW - Device Independent Profiles No Longer Permitted

With the change to the printing options in CS6, it's no longer possible to use device independent colour spaces for printing. This was a recommended practice when printing via Epson's ABW mode when not using a paper profile. What is the recommended practice with CS6? Is it to use Printer Manages Colors rather than Photoshop Manages Colors? If Printer Manages Colors is the proper approach, then is it recommended to convert the image file to a colour space encoded with a gamma of 2.2 (e.g. Adobe RGB or sRGB or Grey Gamma 2.2)?
    Thanks.

  • PC prints to Epson 7800 good from CS5- bad from Lightroom

I run a small govt photolab.  I am on a network running the whole CS5 suite.  Printing from photshop using the default setting everying comes out roughly the way it looks on the screen.
Printing from Lightroom the colors are way off, or they're flat.  I've tried different, including one from the paper manufacturere (Ilford)  No luck.
We are not very sophisticated here.  This is not fine art printing and we don't use any kind of calibration. But when i  had a Mac everything went from the screen to the print accuratly.
I've tried converting to JPEG first along with a few other random efforts, but I'm not making any progress.
    Thanks
    Dave

A few questions (or skip to the para below):
Do you start with jpeg or raw?  If jpeg, what colour space?
What working space is set in Photoshop - is it sRGB?
Are your monitors colour-managed (calibrated and profiled with hardware colorimiters)?
Are your printers capable of colour management - do they take account of the profile of the image being printed - or alternatively do you colour-manage from Lightroom and Photoshop, and have the driver set to be colour management aware but also set so that the driver knows that the program is doing the colour management?
If you're not sure of the answers to these questions, then try this: print from Lightroom, but in the Color Management panel (bottom right of print module) set the profile to sRGB (or sRGB IEC61966-2.1 or similar).  Does that make a difference?  Does it now print images the same as Photoshop?
If setting a profile of sRGB IEC... makes a difference, then the reason for the problems is probably that the printer doesn't recognise image profiles (or has colour-management turned off).  Lightroom always uses ProPhoto colour space as its Working Space.  If you print and select the profile as "managed by printer", then Lightroom sends the image to the printer in ProPhoto colour space.  If the printer can't colour manage (doesn't recognise and act on embedded profiles) then ProPhoto images will look very flat and desaturated.
If it looks OK in Photoshop, I'm guessing you've got the Working Space set to sRGB (Edit menu, color settings, and top line in the "Working Spaces" box near the top of the dialogue).
If printing in LR using sRGB profile fixes the problem, then job done, but it also suggests you might not be using colour management in the printers, so you might do better with colour-mangement in the printers and appropriate profiles and calibrated and profiled monitors.
PS - just noticed you're using Epson 7800 printers which I'm sure are capable of colour-management, but I guess you may not be using colour-management (that is, not specifying a printer profile and enabling colour-management, which defaults off in Epson printers).
