Hallelujah, finally disabled OOPP. I use Firefox 9.0.1 and will not upgrade to anything that ignores my settings. Been looking for this info for years!
As soon as Firefox came out with OOPP, I immediately asked how to permanently disable it and had a Firefox developer straight-up lie to me and say it couldn't be done without downgrading. Thank GOODNESS for the instructions on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/713600?page=1 Finally, finally I have excised the hated OOPP!
I run Firefox 9.0.1 and will not upgrade, ever, unless I see signs that Mozilla has radically altered its development direction and discarded most of the boneheaded, broken, anti-user development that has gone into versions more recent than Firefox 1.x. Actually making your mission statement more than an empty promise might be a good place to start.
Let's see...anything else? Oh yeah, any developer who advocates overriding or ignoring user settings, or taking control away from the user, should be kicked off the team. (and investigated as a possible Government mole, but that's a lot to ask for). I hear Konqueror and Safari are looking for new devs. It gets old fast when you try to get support and instead get haughty "You're doing it wrong, stop doing that" responses. I'm doing exactly what I intend to be doing and if you can't support that, someone else will. If you really gave a damn about your users, you might start by backporting security fixes to previous versions instead of spewing out a cacophony of incompatible new versions so rapidly you end up confusing and alienating users and making them switch updates off entirely. I mean seriously, what happens when Firefox hits triple digits? You could stick a decimal in front of it, and name that build after a historic baseball player who had that batting average. But even then you will run out of players in a few months.
It's truly sad. I switched to Firefox because it was the best browser. But Firefox has been backsliding horribly since around 2.0, and the other browsers seem to be in about the same boat. Firefox IS still the best browser - but only if you use an ancient, unsupported version. That's a big problem.
Using an obsolete version released December 11th 2011 is the exact definition of downgrading. It exposes your system to all the security vulnerabilities that have been fixed since then.
* https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html
Out-of-process plug-ins was made mandatory on Windows Vista and later because Adobe don't test Flash Player's protected mode with OOPP disabled. This change didn't happen until Firefox 14, so there was no need to go as far back as Firefox 9.0.1.
If you absolutely have to, you can disable OOPP by creating the MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS environment variable and setting its value to 1. Firefox must be restarted for the change to take effect. This works in the current version of Firefox, so there's no need to use obsolete insecure versions.<br>
If you don't know how to create an environment variable, see the following article for instructions (the "Using the Custom Environment Variable" section is not relevant).

ipod is disabled for 22,362,812 and will not let me restore it says there is a passwoed on this device and it needs to be removed. how do i get this device restored
Go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
Then, try the Restore. Everything except the password will be restored. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. Be forewarned that it takes a long time. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Simply choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes. -

I cannot open any attachments received on yahoo mail when using firefox 7.0.1
The new tab page (about:newtab) wasn't introduced until a later version of Firefox (iirc, Firefox 10) , which is why that pref can't be found.
Sounds like your father picked up some Malware.
Maybe this is what you're dealing with.

after I have closed firefox and then try to reopen it will not do so. I have to go into task manager and end process. firefox then starts but appologizes for not being able to restore tab that I had closed before I closed firefox. This has only started happening since upgrading to 3.6. It happens on my laptop and my mates main computer. We both run Zonealarm if thats got anything to do with it. I hope someone can help as I have used fire fox for quite a few years and never been beaten before.
This happened
Every time Firefox opened
== firefox upgraded to 3.6.6In the post by <u>Anonymous</u>, he is correct to an extent. Usually Firefox will close within 5-20 seconds. If a Flash animation/video is running, it may take a few seconds longer. I would hold off on the clean re-install until you do some further investigation.
ZoneAlarm (some versions/Toolbar) has caused some problems with Firefox. I do not recall the hanging at exit issue being one of them. After trying the following, you might want to visit the ZoneAlarm forum and look around or register and ask a question ( http://forums.zonelabs.com/index.php ).
<u>Kill Application</u>
In Task Manager, does firefox.exe show in the <u>Processes</u> tab?

<u>Causes and solutions for Firefox hanging at exit:</u>
Firefox hangs
Firefox hangs at exit
Firefox is already running but is not responding
<u>Safe Mode</u>
You may need to use Safe Mode (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes <u>before</u> starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
See:
Troubleshooting extensions and themes
Troubleshooting plugins
Basic Troubleshooting
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling <u>one at a time</u> until the problem reappears. <u>You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change</u> via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window. -
I FINALLY DECIDED TO UPDATE MY IPAD WITH THE MOST RECENT SOFTWARE,, WHILE ONLINE SHOPPING IT RANDOMLY TURNED BLUE NOW IT WILL NOT COME BACK ON PLEASE HELP!
Howdy nhudson1,
If I understand correctly your iPad will not turn on at all. I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article, named:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on
If you see a black screen
You might need to charge your device before it can turn on. Plug in your device and let it charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad), then try turning it on.
You should see a battery icon while your device is charging. If you continue to see a black screen, reset your device.
If you still need help after trying the steps above, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Firefox crashes when opening and will not open in safe mode
Recently FF3 started crashing when opening. It will not open in safe mode as well. I have uninstalled it including deleting the install folder and profile folders as well as registry entries. Upon reinstallation is will still not launch in any mode.
I have scanned for malware with several scanners and that has not found anything.
Here is the crash report cause - nsCOMPtr_base::~nsCOMPtr_base() | nsDocShell::SetupNewViewer(nsIContentViewer*)
Anti-virus is Trend Micro Worry Free for Business. I uninstalled it and Firefox and then reinstalled only Firefox and still get the same thing.

Firefox "hangs" when opened and will not load first page
I am running Firefox on Mac OS X and when I open it it hangs and does not load the first page. The whole application does not respond so I can't open it in safe mode or anything. I have to keep force quitting it.
So no help from any one about this?

Captivate 5 using the aggregator, preloader loops and will not start.
All videos were created in Captivate 5, AS3 on Windows 7 Professional, Internet Explorer 8.
I created and loaded a video series using Aggregator to our website on IE8 and it worked great. I needed to revise a slide for audio and made the changes. I republished the videos and loaded them again to our website. But now, the video launches with a pre-loader that just remains on the screen as if it were looping. I have deleted/published/loaded several times, but cannot get the video to play. When I preview the video on my desk it works as expected. The TOC works great-this is why I want to use the aggregator. I have deleted all the published files from my computer and the web site-more than once and started over. Not sure what else to do. I have cleared the pre-loader from the aggregator but it still displays. All videos were created on my local drive and saved to a network drive where I can load them to the web server.
If I do not use the aggregator, the .htm pages open without a problem however I want to use the TOC. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I have scanned the Captivate Forums looking for a solution to my problem, I can’t find a solution.
Thanks,
PixieHi Rod,
Sorry it is taking me so long to answer you back. I have other projects at work besides videos that I need to get completed.
The videos series I created, using the demonstration mode (we show them how to use our software i.e.; run a payroll, create a purchase order etc), is a set of 9 videos. There maybe a few of them that are over 50 slides but the whole series is about 30 minutes long. Each of them have audio, no click boxes but I do use highlight boxes. With the Aggregator, I have no pre-loader selected; it just seems to default in. Once all created and published, I load them to our web site for our clients to view.
When we were on CP3 and using menu builder I never had any problems linking the videos together, but I really would love to use the Aggregator. When I view it on my desktop, it plays great, the TOC is on the left and I can choose any of the 9 to view. But they will not play on our web site…the preloader just sits there.
I have a LOT of videos to create/update. Any help is greatly appreciated. I apologize if I am not explaining this well enough. -
installed firefox 7, the latest update. When I go to transfer to applications, error saying I do not have the authorization. I am the administrator. Cant go further.
If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
* Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

FireFox has stopped working and will not run after fresh install
Yesterday I noticed that the address bar was not working and the graphics were not being shown correctly. When I typed in the address bar it would no atuto complete and even if i typed yahoo.com nothin would happen. The only way I could go to a website was to use my bookmarks.
I did a fresh install and now it doesn't work at all. So, I uninstalled firefox and then did a fresh install. Sill nothing. IE, Chrome, and Safari work fine.A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

My ipad will not connect to anything that uses the internet.
I have owned it for over a year and suddenly it exits out of Safari, Netflix, iTunes, iBooks.... etc. It's not the wifi itself because we have Apple laptops that work just fine. I click on iTunes and then it just exits out of it and goes back to the homescreen. This is just irritating the BEJEZUZ out of me and I feel like smashing it right now! This has been going on for a few weeks now HELP!!!
Try two things:
1. Unplug (literally) your router for a few seconds, then plug it back in
2. Reboot your iPad: Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go fo both buttons and your iPad will restart.
See if you can then access the internet.........
