Halo reduction

Has anyone figured out what the Halo Reduction brush is supposed to do? I have some images with terrible purple fringing where direct sunlight sparkles of water, which I thought were the perfect candidate to test this new feature of AP3.
The effect I get from this halo reduction is not a real improvement: the purple fringes are replaced by ugly black holes. It looks as if in the purple fringes the luminance is reduced to zero instead of the saturation. Also, the green fringes on the opposing side are not affected at all.
I can do much better by adding a color brick with desaturated sampled magenta and green hues. The problem there is that it takes some time to set up and that it seems impossible to make it into a preset that can be applied independently of other color adjustments. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated. (The hue of the fringes seems to be the same in every photo.)

Okay here is the longer version:
The CA tool in Aperture and MOST software is only good to deal with lateral CA some is better than others - Aperture is about mid-pack from my evaluation.
The Purple fringing alone w/o the other colors on the other side of it are usually axial CA - not many software programs deal with that effectively and can be somewhat aperture (lens term not software) dependent - smaller = more possibly. The only software I have tested that really deals with it effectively from a global perspective happens to be NX2 (actually automatically if you wish) there is probably other tools I just have not tested them myself.
Hope that helps.

  • Colour Profile Bug in CS4 32 bpc Mode?

This has been confirmed on both Mac and PC by different users
(this topic was confirmed on another list before posting here).
One may be working on an image that has a different colour profile
than set as default in colour settings. For example, colour settings
has Adobe RGB while the current document is in ProPhoto RGB. If the
ProPhoto RGB (16 bpc) file is taken to 32 bpc mode, the status message
reports that the file is in a modified linear space based on the input
profile. One may then perform USM, for example and then return to 16
    bpc or 8 bpc mode.
Here is the bug: Once the ProPhoto RGB file is returned to 16 or 8
bpc, it now has the working RGB space tagged of Adobe RGB, rather than
the original ProPhoto RGB as input before 32 bpc conversion. This is
not just a tagging issue, the numbers have been converted to working
RGB rather than the input ICC that was tagged to the image prior to
    entering 32 bpc mode.
ICC tagged image operations have been divorced from colour settings
since version 6, the document can reside in a space that is
independent of colour settings. I can't recall other operations that
change the files colour space and tag without user intention.
If using 32 bpc edits, to preserve the input space, one either has to
change their colour settings to match the document or convert the
    document to working RGB.
So why this reversion to working RGB and not the document RGB - bug or
design feature/limitation? Did CS3 work this way, is it only my
    version of CS4?
I have searched the help notes, this forum and other Adobe support docs,
however I could not find this issue documented.
    Sincerely,
    Stephen Marsh

Can anyone post a supporting argument for the current behaviour (design or bug). While in 32 bpc Photoshop "knows" what the original profile is (it is listed as being in a linear state), while on default conversion to lower bit depth the data is converted to working RGB, rather than the document RGB prior to conversion (if different to working RGB). Am I missing something - is this a good thing, should this be behaviour be changed?
    OK, topic drift it is!
Buko/progress, it is not so much bit depth in this case, it is gamma encoding - or lack thereof. 32 bpc mode processes in linear gamma, which can have an effect on some operations for certain receptive image content (tonal moves, USM, interpolation etc).
As one example, some links to linear resampling can be found in the comments at this blog:
    http://forensicphotoshop.blogspot.com/2008/11/resize-smaller-part-2.html
I prefer the 32 bpc route to linear processing rather than the alternative, which is 16 bpc and a hacked custom RGB profile set to gamma 1.0.
I don't like linear USM for output sharpening (nasty dark halo artifacts). However, for subtle capture/acquisition sharpening linear USM may be preferred for certain images. I generally sharpen with blend if sliders limiting the intensity of the light halo, which comes close to one aspect of linear sharpening (light halo reduction). This can also be achieved by blending the USM in two separate layers, set to darken and lighten blending with reduced opacity.
While on USM and gamma, there are some L* based RGB working spaces such as L*RGB or the new ECI RGB which behave the same way as Lab mode Lightness channel sharpening (when set to Luminosity blend). As the response of the Lightness channel is different to linear gamma and standard gamma encoded spaces, for some image content one may be preferred over the other as the processing space.
I would still like to explore the original topic/post before submitting a bug report. How do you think things should work?
    Regards,
    Stephen Marsh

  • Some Aperture Brushes stop working??

I have recently upgraded my iMac (i5 with 12GB RAM) from 10.8.5 to 10.9.3, upgraded Aperture to 3.5.1. Pretty much my first editing session, and I discover that about half the Aperture brushes have stopped working. This happens on previously unedited images, both JPG and RAW. All referenced images.
These brushes seem to work fine:
    Retouch
    Skin Smoothing
    Burn
    Tint
    Definition
    Vibrancy
    Halo Reduction
    Highlights and Shadows
    Sharpen
These brushes don't work - the brush menu comes up, I can change the setting, but the brush does not show, and I can't brush anything:
    Dodge
    Polarise
    Intensify Contrast
    Contrast
    Saturation
    Blur
    Sharpen
    Noise reduction
    Curves
    Enhance
    Levels
I tried changing various brush settings, doesn't seem to help. I have submitted an a bug report to Apple.
Any ideas from the forum, has anyone run into this?

A reboot seems to have fixed it.

  • Mac Halo (PowerPC) problems on my MacBook Pro

I double-click on the app and then a setup window pops upLaunch Halo, the opening screen pops up (bluish screen with 'Halo' on it) but then after a few seconds it flikers then crashes unlike most other people who are able to actually PLAY before it crashes.
    I have tried:
-Installing Halo on the home administrator account.
-Uninstalling then reinstalling Halo (Delete folder from Applications, Documents and deleted Halo preferences)on that account.
-Logged into a different user account and reinstalled Halo.
-Logged into a different user account and tried playing Halo.
    -Reinstalled Quicktime.
-Repaired permissions before and after installation.
Previously posted by Infinity_Now (May 2, 2006) in the forums iMac G5>Using your iMac G5:
"When I click on the Halo icon, installed into my home on an administrator account it opens the settings window. As I have for the past few months, with the same settings and hardware, I click on "OK." The Halo title image loads, flickers, and after about 2 seconds the program crashes. I've sent the report to Apple, and searched the web - has no one found out how to get Halo working again?"
All other mac games older than Halo that I own work fine on this computer. So I am guessing that this is not a Rosetta problem but then it can be because somewhere Apple says that it "runs MOST applications" normally (sorry if i misquoted).
Anyway, the only thing left for me to do do is to format my disk and then try install Halo then. Currently dont have any backup disks (will be purchasing one in the next few days) so I will post the results back here once I have tried that.
    MacBook Pro 2.16GHz Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1GHz RAM, ATI Radeon X1600 256MB VRAM

Well the MBP is Intel based so the PPC version of
Halo is doing what it should, that is crash. Check
    this out
    http://www.destineerstudios.com/support/halo.html
Thanks for the link. I somehow missed it throughout my hours of sifting through the forums for the solution.
The thing is that, with the exception of one or two people with the same problem as me, people actually managed to load and play the game (for a certain length of time before crashing); that is, at least get past the picture the shows up after you click the OK button in the Halo Video Settings window when you launch Halo.
After I encountered this problem, I tried out Warcraft 3 for the first time on this computer (just got my MBP this week).
Same sort of problem as Halo.
Tried launching and then it crashes. Didn't even manage to get to the opening cutscene.
Anyway, I erased and reinstalled my system and, lo and behold, I managed to load the game!!
Just wondering what the root cause for the problem is but I am guessing that:
-Since it loads a movie just after the Halo picture screen, there must have been some problems with Quicktime. Maybe conflicts with plug-ins or something.
-My video card drivers got messed up or they were not installed properly (maybe during software update).
These are some of the posibilities that I can come up with with my limited knowledge in this subject.
Anyway, just happy that I finally got everything up and running after a few hours. I recommend people who have a similar problem to reinstall their system. Hopefully this solves everything!

  • Halo in "save for web"

    Hi,
When I use "save for web" in Illustrator CS2, I get a halo effect on the left and bottom of the image. If I use "select eyedropper color" this thin line on left and bottom becomes that color. If I use "none" it is white.
I have tried clipping to artboard and have exhausted ideas.
This happens when I save jpegs. If I view the image in a browser from clicking the browser button in the lower right corner of "save for web" this thin rule left and bottom does not appear. But When I drop the save image in a webpage, there it it.
I do not have this problem in Photoshop. I think they are both driven by Image Ready?
Thanks for any help, it is much appreciated.
    Kevin

That's never been saved as part of the S4W presets. Bloody annoying.

  • Sales orders in TDMS company/time based reduction  are outside the scope

    Guys,
I have had some issues with TDMS wheras it didn't handle company codes without plants very well. That was fixed by SAP. But I have another problem now. If I do a company code and time based reduction, It doesn't seem to affect my sales orders in VBAK/VBUK as I would have expected. I was hoping it would only copy sales orders across that have a plant which is assigned to a company code that was specified in the company code based reduction scenario. That doesn't seem to be the case.
VBAK is now about one third of the size of the original table (number of records). But I see no logic behind the reduction. I can clearly see plenty of sales documents that have a time stamp way back from what I specified in my copy procedure and I can see others that have plant entries that should have been excluded from the copy as they do belong to different company codes than the ones I specified.
I was under the impression that TDMS would sort out the correct sales orders for me but somehow that doesn't seem to be happening. I have to investigate further as to what exactly it did bring across but just by looking at what's in the target system I can see plenty of "wrong" entries in there either with a date outside the scope or with a plant outside the scope.
I can also see that at least the first 10'000 entries in VBAK in the target system have a valid from and to date of 00.00.0000 which could explain why the time based reduction didn't work?
Did you have similar experiences with your copies? Do I have to do a more detailed reduction such as specifying tables/fields and values?
    Thanks for any suggestions
    Stefan
Edited by: Stefan Sinzig on Oct 3, 2011 4:57 AM

The reduction itself is not based on the date when the order was created but the logic enhances it to invoices and offers, basically the complete update process.
If you see data that definitely shouldn't be there I'd open an OSS call and let the support check what's wrong.

  • Vocal Irregularity after applying Noise Reduction

In this new project I followed Bob Howes instruction:
‘Set the FFT size (on the advanced menu) to 2048 and grab a noise print from a gap of "silence".  Select the entire filed and do reduction by 7 or 8 dB and 15%ish reduction.  Set the FFT size to the next one up, get a new noise print and do another pass with the same low settings.  Keep going, upping the FFT size each time.’
This new project I started out first with a Hard Limit. Then I followed Bob's advise with managing by steps the FFT size.
Sample One is a piece of the original.
Sample Two is the results of the effects.
It sounds as though the speed of the vocals did changed - though one can listen to the vocal their conversation sounds - unnatural.
After removing noise is there another approach to redeem the vocals of those speaking?
    Thanks!
    Original Sample One
HardLimit - Noise Reduction Sample Two
Your video has been published at http://youtu.be/K63D5QNGb_I
Your video will be live at: http://youtu.be/uOtLUYiZyQc

Yes, you have very much overdone the Noise Reduction!
First, I'm not sure why you would need to first apply a "Hard Limit".
Second, are you sure you followed Bob's advice exactly, i.e taking a new noise sample and changing the FFT size on each pass?  Are you sure you set everything exactly correct on that first pass?

  • GR reduction impossible. Wrong CI with FT 30 instead of 40 in GR/IR acct.

    Hi Gurus
I want to clear my GR/IR G/L account using transaction code MR11 for a Service Order, and I'm getting error message' FMUP009 - GR reduction impossible. Wrong CI with FT 30 instead of 40 in GR/IR acct".
    1. The FT of my GR/IR commitment item master record is currently set to 50 NOT to 30 as mentioned in the error message.
    2. If I change the FT of my GR/IR commitment item to 40 (the correct setting), I still get the same error message as above.
Note: The offsetting commitment item's master record is set to a 30 (the normal setting for and expenditure commitment item).
Question: Could this be a program error?
    Regards
    Thuso Mudau

    Hello Thuso,
The symptom you describe might be solved by these notes
1027015     MR11 incorrectly updates Funds Management (FM) ->
This note is currently being  checked and should be released shortly
1069481     Unjustified FM error message when posting an invoice receipt
So, please wait a little bit to have note 1027015 and make sure that both are installed in your system
    Kind regards,

  • I can't start halo for mac

Hi, I having some problems with halo for mac. I have a intel duel core mac with windows installed. I have been playing halo for some time now, but about 3 weeks ago I quit for a week. In this time I installed America's Army (the game developed by the US military) and also anti-virus for windows. When I started halo up again about 2 weeks ago, it wouldn't work! It would start for about 10 seconds, then "quit unexpectedly"! I know I'm not the only one who has had this problem, but I still need help!

Hey, I downloaded the intel version. Everything went smoothly, except the new halo app doesn't recognize the game CD! I tried both CD's, the burn and the original, and it doesn't recognize either. Amazingly, though, the original halo app works now! (for now anyway, we'll see after i download the patches).
I have no idea what I did (I deleted some Divx stuff, which was mentioned in a thread with a similar problem), but it works now! Thank you for helping me, you guys, and if I have this problem again, I'll know where to get help!

  • Lines of Amount type 0200 (reduction) not appearing in FMRP_RW_BUDCON

    Dear experts,
I would like to ask you about the following incorrect scenario we are facing:
in my client, the PO creates commitment, then the GR recudes that PO commitment and whenever the invoice is created, it reduces the GR commitment.
This would be a normal picture at FMRP_RW_BUDCON for a complete delivered and invoiced PO:
    PO       0100     1,000 EUR
PO       0200    -1,000 EUR (at the moment of GR creation)
    GR       0100     1,000 EUR
GR       0200    -1,000 EUR (at the moment of the invoice creation) --> this is the missing line
    Invoice 0100     1,000 EUR
However, we are having cases in which the line GR 0200 is missing and therefore it is resulting in double Budget consumption.
Do you know what this can be happening?
I am wondering if these missing 0200 lines were ever appearing in the report. Could it be that those lines got missassinged (to unproper combination of Fund Center and Commitment ítem) by the execution of the reconstructions transaccions (FMCD, FMCN, FMCT, FMN4N, FMN0, FMAVCREINIT)? Is there a way to find out if those missing 0200 lines are in the system under any other address?
In case the missing 0200 lines were never created, is there any way to make them appear so that we do not get doublé consumption?
Any help will be very much appreciated.
    Thank you very much.
    Best regards,
    Mercedes.

    Dear Mercedes,
As a premise, I believe you are updating GR and IR in transaction OFUP and you have verified that there are no correction notes for your EA-PS package and component PSM-FM-UP-FI-GR.
As a start, I would check the related FI document generated by the GR posting.
You can use report RFFMS009 for this. This report will show you the FM Account Assignment derived and the one that was posted. This might help you to identify if the reason of missing 0200 records were related to your derivation rules in FMDERIVE.
For the same, you can run FMDERIVE (see note 666322) and post a similar GR to see if the commitment item and the funds center are correct.
It might be the case also that the financial transaction of the commitment item used in the GR reduction is not updating PSM-FM. Please make sure that the financial transaction is equal to 30.
    Best Regards, Vanessa.

  • Error - GR reduction not possible in MIRO (Message no. FICUSTOM350)

    Hello Gurus,
I am getting error while doing MIRO (GR reduction not possible. Wrong cmmt item (fin. trans. 30) in GR/IR acct) .
I have activated FM - BCS. In Customizing transaction OFUP (Make other settings) I have ticked GR and INV and my update profile is 000101 (Payment budget; Payment basis ; Posting date).
I have created a commitment item for GR/IR specific and assigned financial transaction 40 then also system is giving the same error. The issue is system is not creating a FM line item for GR/IR clearing account at the time of MIGO but only creating for P&L item (Debit Part). Now when we post MIRO system is looking for FM line item for GR/IR (which should have been created during MIGO) for clearing hence error appears.
Please let me guide if I have missed some configuration or have done some wrong configuration.
    Full Error description is :
GR reduction not possible. Wrong cmmt item (fin. trans. 30) in GR/IR
    acct
    Message no. FICUSTOM350
    Diagnosis
You are trying to reduce a goods receipt line (GR) with an invoice (IR).
However, the GR/IR clearing account has an incorrect financial transaction ('30'
instead of '40') in the commitment item.
    System Response
The system cannot calculate a GR reduction. This is not a program error, but
rather an inconsistency in the customer master.
In order to calculate the GR reduction, Funds Management (FM) updating has to
create original records for the GR lines with value type '54' and transaction
'RMWE'. Otherwise it is not possible to calculate the reduction.
    Procedure
Correct the commitment item of the GR/IR clearing account. If necessary,
    reconstruct the document in FM.
    Regards
    Rohit

    Hi,
Sorry, I have a question about message FICUSTOM350. I also encounter this error message when we do MIRO and set the AP amount = 0. I try to set GR/IR as '40' but I found GR/IR account will not determint through FMDERIVE. I found this seems the standard behave in SAP. So, I close the message FICUSTOM350 and MIRO is work OK without error. But when I execute the report FMRP_RFFMEP1AX , the budget is incorrect. The system does not reduce the payment budget. Ex: PO amount = 7000 USD, MIRO AP amount =0 , I think the total budget should be 0, but the total payment budget of the report is 7000. Please advise.
    Thanks and Best Regards,

  • How do I get rid of jagged, pixelated halo around type in Dreamweaver?

    Dear Dreamweaver Forum,
I am studying the essential series of video tutorials on Dreamweaver CS3 via Lynda.com.
I am also currently, slowly but surely, putting together a website to function as a resume, cover letter and portfolio all in one.
I am currently in the middle of creating headings and images that will function as rollover buttons.
I currently have a problem with a jagged or pixilated halo appearing around type I'm creating in Illustrator CS3 and placing into Dreamweaver CS3.
The process I’m using so far is the following:
In Dreamweaver CS3, I’m using div tags. I will place a div tag on a page. I will then move it to the desired location on the page and size it to my needs.
I then take .gif file of type I created in Illustrator CS3 and drag it from the files panel and to the web page I’m working on. When I do this, I notice a halo around the type (please see inserted image below).
How do I get rid of this jagged or pixilated halo?
I created the type in Illustrator CS3 and then go File > Save for Web and Devices. In the 4-up dialog box that appears, I then save the type as a .gif file.
    Please see images below:
    Thanks for your help!

How do I get rid of this jagged or pixilated halo?
Don't use transparency! GIF and 8bit PNG only allow one transparent color, resulting in frizzled edges with antialiased content. If you know the type goes on a black background, save it with a black background....

  • Using compressor DVD Studio Pro 4 will only accept ac3 format in the burn process. ac3 makes a nnsense of the good sound delivered, 30% reduction in volume, auto volume levelling giving unwanted volume variations. Used to be able to burn using AIFF/WAVE,

AS Above. Edited in FCPX. Excellent sound file. Using Compressor 4 to DVD Studio 4. Wanting AIFF or WAVE sound for acurate sound.
Previously DVD Studio 4 has accepted AIFF etc and delivered sound as reuired. Now, during the burn process everything other than ac3 is declined as 'video bit rate too high', but will burn if the AIFF format is replaced with ac3 (which I presume meanss the 'video bit rate too high' is referring to the sound file)
The issue with ac3 format is the huge reduction in original volume and worse, the 'auto volume levelling' that makes a nonsense of the original soundtrack - with simply aweful unwanted variations in volume Throughout the  the dvd.
I have tried everything I can think of to get around this. The 'volume gain' in compressor doesn't make any difference. Exporting just AIFF and the Video to DVD 4 doesn't make any difference, it always declines anything but the aweful sound ac3 delivers.
I have customers awaiting a musci DVD, not with thei quality I can't.
    Cheers
    Phil

The total video bit rate is determined by audio & video. Depending on what rate your video file was encoded at will determine how much room is left for audio. PCM(aiff/wav) audio requires a bigger piece of the pie. Video bit rate too high means your overall(video+audio) rate is going above 9Mbps which the format won't allow. The only way to use aiff would be to lower your video file's data rate. The length of your program is also a factor in all of this.
I had some problems in the past with using aiff instead ac3. Although there shouldn't be any issue I experienced playback issues on some players that couldn't be explained but were cleared up by ac3.  I have been using the same specs as Dave's suggestion for almost nine years and have not had any issues with mix, quality, or levels.
