Halp-Nano is broke!

Hi,
I have a dillemma with my ipod nano
its the 2gb white version which i only bought 2months ago
today i switched it on to enable me to add more songs frommy itunes to my ipod. the apple logo came up i assumed it was resetting itself - mine does that alot for some reason. I waited 10 minutes and my ipod seems to be forzen at the point of the song i last listend to last night.NO BUTTON IS RESPONDING NOT EVEN TRYING TO RESET IT BY TOGGLING HOLD ON AND OFF AND HOLDING DOWN MENU AND THE CENTER DOWN IS WORKING.I have tried plugging it in to my pc and tried 4 different usb ports and my ipod is not coming up as being recognised at all.Not in itunes/my computer or anywhere.I have also reinstalled mjy ipod but to no avail and i cannot restore it as my pc thinks its not plugged in!
I really do not know what to do next some advice or tips would be much appreciated!

I'm tired so did you say that you've tried the 5 r's? If not, try them. If that doesn't work, take it to an apple store.

Help me My nano is broke and I didn't do anything!

I have a black Ipod nano. I also have a nice plastic case to go with it. So my ipod is protected at all times.
I was in school and i was listening to my ipod intill class started. It was fine. after class I took it out of my front pocket and it had a distorted screen and a crack. I never banged it against anything. I just sat down and never moved for a hour. the ipod still worked other wise execpt i could not see anything on the screen because it was soo distorted. I shut it off so it would not not be even moe dameged. But when i tryed to turn it on again by pluging it in, it was dead, DEAD.
I had a protective case and never dropped it or banged it ino anything and My ipod broke.
Can somebody help me?

Nano Screen Broke due to Fall -- Repairable???

Just bought my wife a new Nano last week and tonight I knocked it off the counter top and it landed flat on the screen! Picked it up and sure enough.. Screen is toast!
Anyhow, I was going to take it to the Apple store tomorrow and see what they could do for me.
Any idea how much this is going to cost to replace the screen? Do they replace screens?? Or am I basically going to be buying a new nano?

Since it wouldn't be possible that this is Apple's fault, they would count this kind of damage as "abuse".
There are other companies that can repair your iPod, though. Like: iPod ResQ, Broken iPods.

New Nano (Already broke?)

Hi,
I just bought a Nano and already am having problems. I am getting the following messages.
1) Firmware update failure. Disk write error.
2) I-Pod_control\music is corrupt and unreadable. use chkdsk utility (Or someting like that)
I'm cluelss so if anyone can give me a hand, that would be great.
The thing will not even turn on now.
I am also using a new laptop computer so maybe there is some settings or something I need to change?

Unplugged during update

I have an iphone 4 and it was accidentally unplugged from my computer during an ios update. Now the phone just has the apple logo with an empty bar underneath it and has been like this for almost an hour. The phone also won't turn off or show up is itunes when I plugged it back into my computer. How do I get my phone to work again?

His nano also broke and someone he knew fixed it but when he looked at the video he said it needed a new logic board (i never heard this term before, unless it's like apple for motherboard?)

Made a little mistake.

I've replaced my older iPod nano that broke awhile back with an iPod touch and just used the same account that I have been using. I put in the details to subscribe my ipod to itunes but put my age to 21 in case I had to make another email for a parent account or whatever. But I needed to put a credit card number in. I tried to go back and I couldent get back to the page where I put my age and everything.So I never completed the process of activating my ipod for my account. I can still buy music and put it onto the Ipod but when I look into the music thats stored inside of the ipod its dimmed and i cant drag or delete anything. I dont know how to change it or finish subscribing so the ipod is good for that account. Any way you can help out?

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manage the content manually.

Replacing/Exchanging my iPods (plurial!)

I have a question about who to contact about replacing my ipods. two years ago I bought a color display ipod photo (with my powerbook) and this past may it broke. So instead of getting it fixed, I opted for the cheaper route and get a nano. However this past week, the Nano has broke, out of no where and I don't know why. I'm quite upset about it, being that I use it every single day. So now I have two broken Ipods. It's past the 3 month replacement warrenty, but still under the one year. I was wondering if any of you knew if it's possible to send them both away, and upgrade to one of the new iPod classics. Obviously there would be a payment I would have to make, but the fact that two have broke on me in two years rots me. Who would I contact? Anyone know? Or if this is even possible?

No such thing as far as I know. All iPods have a 12 month warranty.
I was wondering if any of you knew if it's possible to send them both away, and upgrade to one of the new iPod classics.
Apple don't offer this kind of trade in. They have a recycling program in place that gets you 10% off the price of a new iPod if you hand in your old one at the time of purchase. You can do this (I believe) at any Apple store.
However, you may think that your iPod is worth more than 10% off the cost of a new one, and perhaps want to sell it on eBay instead.
There are sites such as Small Dog Electronics that do have a trade in policy for iPods.

is anyone actually buying the ipod touch for music, because that is what i am doing, but i havent heard anything on these forums besides either video or web browsing. I dont really know why i am asking but i think it is my wanting someone else to do the same thing as i.

I did like all the other features but mainly for music,
It is replacing my old 1st Gen Nano, it broke when someone step on it and smashed it to pieces, and then this ipod came out the next day. lol
I think that the music functionality is awesome on this ipod,
the sound is very good, especially through these headphones they gave us
You can easily find the song you are look for, and at the moment im working on aWeek 38 with the new 1.1.1 update, and Cover Flow is flawless. Except i havent got some album artworks.
The controls are easy to use, and from any other screen on the iPodT, you can double click the home button to get quick music controls.
The only negative thing im going to say is, you cant change or do anything with the ipod and its music when it is in your pcket, you must take it out and manually unlock it or whatever.. eg, volume, next song or pausing it.

yes agree, plus a multinational seeing a product and has no technical assistance to do the maintenance then it's no use I buy a new product if it is damaged I will always be because it has no prejudice in this maintenance.

Nano broke iTunes 7.7

I just got a new nano since my old one broke. iTunes 7.7 was working just but I connected the nano for the first time iTunes froze up then closed. I downloaded it serval times but it keeps doing it even when the nano is unplugged from the computer. Did anyone else have the same problem?

Try restoring the iPod on your computer with an older iPod Updater, if you have it.

HELP my nano broke....again

ok first off this is my first time on the fourm and i dont know where to post something like this. The only other fourm web page i have used is pbnation, so im not a pro at these. But heres the story.....
ok let me start off by saying this is my THIRD ipod that has just broke on me. All three times i have been listening to them. I have went through 2 shuffles and a nano now(thats what im posting it in this thread). But i was just listening to my nano and the skreen started to flicker. So i went to go in for a closer look and started scrolling through my songs hopeing it would clear it up, well it didnt. My skrolling pad just started to jump like crazy, it has always jumped a little but now it was like going + or - 20 songs! Then I tryed shutting it off, i started holding down the play button as i normaly do, but nothing happend. SO I released it and tryed agian, then the play button started to act like the button in the center. Right now it has lost all function in the pad, buttons and the hold button. it is in the menu skreen and i dont know whats rong with it.
This is my third ipod and i loved all three! My two shuffles i think i just killed the battery cuz i listened to them so much, but bolth were at green(full battery) when they died and they didnt stop working they just started blinking like crazy. But this one i just got a little over a month ago.
When this happend i was on my bed, there was no water, no extream heat, no extream cold as it said in the manul. IT just stopped!!!
Im really mad right now, as much as i love ipods im not sure if im going to get another do to THREE breaking on me. Now i have seen ipods get beat up and still work, But mine was taken care of. It was always in the case and always used properly, i didnt want another to break on me. I love my music and love listening to it so i always took care of my ipods!
Sorry if this is long but its late im tired, i have work in the morning and now my ipod broke again for no reason!

Can you see your iPod as a disk in My Computer?
See these:

iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
If neither of those helps, and you can see your iPod in My Computer, you can try to format. Format it in FAT32 and uncheck "Quick Format". Then do a restore if possible.
Post back with the results. I'm going to bed in a few minutes (12:36 here), but I'll check tomorrow if i miss it.
If neither of those work, then unfortunately your iPod probably needs service/replacement. Keep in mind that this is not typical of iPods.
Out of curiosity, what type of computer do you have?

Just an idea for using your iPod nano, even if the power switch is broken. I don't have a 6th gen nano to try this, but it would work with my 5th gen iPod nano.
If you use headphones with remote control buttons on the cord, pressing the middle button should have the same effect as pressting the power button to make the iPod active. It does on my 5th gen nano. And it should automatically go into the power saving mode if you leave it alone (and not play anything) for a minute or two, which is the same as pressing the power button to "turn it OFF."

works with the 6th gen iPod nano. It also works with the 4th gen iPod shuffle, and sound better (to me) than the "stock" headphones the shuffle comes with. Plus you'll have the remote control buttons on the cord to control playback and volume.

I had an iPod nano and then got a classic iPod, which then broke. So I wanted to start using my iPod nano again. I still have the same iTunes account, but when I try to sync this iPod with my iTunes nothing happens.

The music that was on this nano when I stopped using it a few years ago is still on it, and I want to replace it with other songs that I've added to my iTunes since then.

iPods (except for iPod touch) are not linked to any iTunes "account." They are associated with your iTunes library. The account in iTunes is your Apple ID, and that is used to buy and download content from the iTunes Store. It is not required to use an iPod.
The 1st (and 2nd) gen shuffle can only be used with one iTunes library at a time. When you connect it, iTunes should prompt you to start using it with your iTunes library, and warn that the shuffle's existing content will be erased. Have iTunes erase the shuffle, and it will be associated with your iTunes library going forward. You can then add content to your shuffle.
The need for the previous owner's Apple ID and password should only come up if you are trying to transfer existing content from the shuffle to your iTunes library, AND the previous owner had content purchased from the iTunes Store. Just cancel out of that step, if iTunes asks.
