Hammer virus on iPad?

Hi, my godmother mainly uses her iPad for online shopping and browsing the web. She called me today as she had a warning box appear on her iPad as she tried to start safari saying something along the lines of "http://hammer virus.com suspicious activity detected please call this number immediately for support". Has anyone else heard of this? She said she called the number and the person who answered started by saying there would be charge for such support, at which point she hung up. I'm sure it wasn't an apple support number, so sounds like a scam and she did the right thing by hanging up. However she is worried that she has a virus now on her iPad. Everything I've read suggests it's very hard to get a virus on your iPad, so I'm wondering if the message was just a type of pop up from a webpage she'd previously visited? any advice greatly appreciated!

It's not a virus on the iPad device. Most likely the website she visited is booby trapped with scripts to show the warning. It's a scare tactic to get users to call the number. All they're after is the user's credit card info. Stop visiting the website. Clear Safari browsing history, cache and cookies (look in Settings - Safari).

  • Virus on Ipad

    Hi
I'm new to Apple products with only experience of pcs and laptops before.  I just got an ipad for Christmas.  I love it and I've never stopped using it since.  For the first time today I got a problem after downloading a children's app.  I played the game I'd downloaded for a while then closed it.  The screen then appeared to be 'taken over' by what looked like a virus with the screens moving from homepage to next page to search page with no input from me.  On the search page it took over the search box and keypad typing in gobbledegook. I left it for a while while I tried to work out what to do and it went into itunes and started playing a song and clicking on all the icons in itunes. I did what I would do on a pc and stopped the connection to the internet and powered off.  Looking at discussions on viruses on ipad, they don't seem to exist, it seems more likely to be the app I downloaded but I've no idea what to do - any advice?

    Start here.
Quit that game app completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Has anyone experienced virus on ipad

My iPad turned most of my emails into messages sent by no one, no object and dated 01/01/70. When I tried to delete one of these e-mails it turned off and crashed. I cannot turn it on, neither charge it. It is dead... :-(
Has anyone ever experienced sorts of viruses on iPad/iPhone or similar problem?
    Please help!
    thanks,
    Simo

It is very unlikely to be a virus if your OS is stock (i.e. you have't jailbroken it.)
Apple's iron grip on its software and hardware makes viruses for the iPad few and far between. It's more likely to be a bug in the software than a virus, what version of iOS are you running?

  • Are we supposed to purchase an anti-virus for iPad Air?

Are we supposed to purchase an anti-virus for iPad Air? Or is it secure without one.

Virus's - defined as a malicious program that propagates itself through the operating system - cannot run on an ipad due to its sandboxed operating system. You can still fall victim to phishing if you put your info in the wrong place or enter it in the wrong site. but, generally, any 'bad' activity on an iPad requires the user to initiate or do something first.
So while you can't get a virus you do have to be smart about how you use the internet and what you do with your device.

Do I need to buy anti virus for ipad mini?

Nope as long as you don't jailbreak or do anything else the software cannot get viruses

  • Virus on ipad and iphone when i was abroad how to delete it

while i was abroad i have picked up what i think is a virus on my ipad mini and iphone 5 also another person in my hotel had same problem . When we are usinf safari it send us to a link ultrafiles.net  ( linkbucks.com )everytime when try and open a new page how do i get rid of this ?

It's not a virus. As of this point in time, there is no known virus for the iPad. (a virus is defined as a malicious program that propogates itself across your operating system, the sandbox nature of the ipad prevents that)
Try going into your settings, safari, and clear the cookies and data and history. It will mean that you need to re-sign into sites, etc, but what I think you're getting hit by is a browser cookie that's basically hijacking the browser to send it to another site. Getting rid of the history and cookies should take care of it.

  • How to clear virus on ipad

I Have got virus from mobmessage1 on ipad attached to Sirius. How to clear ?

There are no known viruses that can affect an iPad.  So all you would need to do is remove the App if it was an App or delete the email if it was an email that you suspect has a virus.
Other than that, there's nothing else that needs to be done.
Why do you think you have a virus?

  • Email virus on iPad

HI I received a email from FedEx that said they could not deliver a package and to click on a link to get more information. Well I clicked on it and was directed to a web page , at the top was a 404 title but the rest was in a foreign language. My question is did this infect my iPad 3 ?  Thanks

There are no viruses for the iPad, but that's not to say that you can't be fooled into giving up private information to a fake website.
Don't click on the link in the email you were sent - it may well be another fake. I'd advise you to go directly to your mail provider's website (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc), make sure your browser shows the correct address and is secured (https:// - many browsers use a padlock or green bar to indicate it's secure) and change your password there. Make sure you also change your password on the iPad and any other devices you use to access email.

  • Malware or virus on IPad?!

Trying to sign into Facebook through Safari so I can check my 'others' folder in my messages and when I try to sign in it says my device (iPad) is infected with a virus or malware.  Is that possible? If so, what do I do?!?!

There are no viruses/malware for iPad, so the message is dishonest at best. There is also no legitimate anti-virus program for iOS. Ignore it.

  • How to get rid of tracking device/virus on iPad

HI , I think I may have a tracking device on my ipad, I received what ai thought was an email from my son and clicked on the link - something I dont normally do and now I cant log in to any of my memberships on safari and when I attempted to follow a link from an email from trademe  it flashed past a site that said tracking - it was so fast i couldnt see the full name but i think it had ray in it as well, now I cant acess app store update , should I remotely erase my device and re start ? how do i get back in and reset everything is this the best way to get rid of this tracking thing , Im worried that if I erase it I wont be able to get back into it again,

I would go into settings>safari>clear autofill names and passwords, also clear cookies and history first, before resetting anything else. If that doesn't work then go into settings>scroll to the bottom and tap reset, then reset all settings. This will delete passwords, your WiFi settings and any other settings you have that you have to enter.
It is possible, as you have discovered to have what is known as drive by 'viruses' not really a virus but something that redirects your browser to another site with the intention of obtaining your details or causing you to be billed for a service you didn't want it you store credit card or bank details on your device.. Used to happen a lot with **** sites on PC's.
As above, I would delete the email. BUT advise your son that his mail account may be compromised with a bot auto sending emails to all in his contacts list, so he can fix it too.

  • Trojan or virus on iPad through mail?

iPad with OS7. Using gmail for email.
Received an email from a contractor that we used - so we clicked on the google-doc attachment. Attachment didn't make a lot of sense and since then a couple of our friends have called to tell us that they are getting this email from us. So we believe that we picked something up which is now spreading.
Suggestions for getting rid of it? (antivirus? reload iPad software? something through google?)
    thanks in advance

Just deleting the mail should be enough. Most viruses are written as .exe files, which don't run on an iPad. So your iPad should be safe.
What you could do is go into the settings, delete that mail account, which should delete all the data assigned to it. THen re-add that mail account - making sure that that infected mail isn't still out there.
It's entirely possible that you're not even sending out the bad mail. These guys can get addresses from any address book and then spoof them to try and trick people into opening them. So it looks like it came from you but didn't.

  • Can a email attachment executable load a virus on iPad

I received an email with an executable attachment - is there a virus app for an IPad

There is no known malware capable of infecting an iPad, unless it has been jailbroken (ie, hacked to allow apps from outside the App Store). So the e-mail is not a concern. It's probably just a Windows trojan.
There also are no true anti-virus apps for the iPad (the built-in security on iOS prevents apps from doing things that an anti-virus app would need to do), so don't get suckered into buying one.

  • Virus on iPad 3

    Hello,
About a week ago I downloaded iBooks from a friend.
They didn't get them from the Apple store, but I didn't know that.
Since I downloaded the books, my Ipad selects things, opens things even though I'm not touching the screen.
I removed the books and I did a reset, but none of those things help...
Does anyone know how I can remove whatever it is that infected my iPad?
    Thanks in advance.

Those files are not related to the problem, then. Jailbreaking your iPad is something you would have to make a conscious decision to do and seek out a jailbreaking utility for your computer.
First, try resetting your device. Press and hold both the home button and the sleep/wake button for about 10 seconds, until the screen turns off. Ignore the slider that will appear. Release the buttons, then press and hold the sleep/wake button until the Apple logo appears. This is the equivalent of a reboot, and should not affect your data or apps.
If that doesn't help, try restoring your device from backups, and if that doesn't help, restore it to factory settings (ie, do not restore a backup). See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If none of that helps, the issue is caused by some kind of hardware problem, and the device will need to be repaired or (more likely) replaced.

  • On Tuesday this week I received weird emails, all from people I knew, regarding Skype or Facebook etc. .Apparently I sent them too. I changed password..is this sufficient and was it a virus on iPad mini?

On Tuesday I received innocent looking messages from people I knew, regarding Skype requests etc. It didn't let me open, but apparently I was sending too. I changed password. Was it a virus?

Someone could have gotten ahold of your contact list or a friends contact list.  That bad person either sent a mass email to you or sold the list to someone who did.  The could have gotten the list
-- physical access to your computer
-- logging on to your email account from the web
    -- a long cc list
You sure it was your contact list not a friends?
You may wish to change your passwords on all email accounts you have and the login passwords on all your computers.
