Hand Held GPS Mac Compatibility?

Does anyone know if there is a hand held GPS unit, suitable for hiking, geocaching, that is completely, totally right-out-the-box compatible with
our Mac, OS X? But then, even if there were, the available yummy software that
is out there probably wouldn't work...why is everything so difficult at least for me...sob...
thanks,
Sandy

  • Hand-held GPS compatability

Does anyone know of any hand-held GPS units that are compatible with the MacBook Pro?  I am interested in the Garmin eTrex Venture HC unit.  But I find nothing on the site that tells of any compatibility with Macs.  Any help would be very much appreciated!  Thanks...

I googled, "GPS units that are compatible with the MacBook Pro" and came up with at least this link:
    http://askville.amazon.com/GPS-unit-compatible-Mac/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=131 1999
if not many others. But I'm sure you found it as well when you googled. In any case have you contacted Garmin for an answer to your question.

  • Mac OS 10.4.6 Update and Palm Hand Held Issues

Recently I installed the Mac OS 10.4.6 update after confirming that it should improve some minor issues with "Hot Synching".
Previously I could "Hot Synch" with my Palm Mac Desk Top software 4.2.1 and also with my PC with no issues.
I noticed now I can "Hot Sync" on my Mac--with no issues. However, when I take the Palm out of the USB Cradel and try to access the Palm Display page with the featured icons, I get a very unusual error:
"Application can not be launched because it is missing localization info file xxx--enUS.prc."
I checked the Palm site and entered the error message and the response was returned that indicated "several applications with the Palm Tungsten T require overlay files to run properly. "Dialer, SMS, & WAP Browser" require and overlay "prc" file that determines which language he application displays on the device. If this "prc" file is missing, it will cause this message to be displayed."
I was instructed to install the "xxx_enUS.prc" using the Palm Install tool.
I installed all of the "xxx_enUS.prc" files on Disk 2 and have performed a "Hot Sync" again. A successful "Hot Synch" was performed.
The above message is still displayed on the Palm screen even after that successful "Hot Synch".
I can not use any of the screen icons to select any of the features or vprograms on the Palm.
The face buttons can be depressed but the selection from the Palm hand held icons with the stylus can not be accessed as the "missing localization info, ect" is displayed.
I have performed soft resets to no avail.
I still can not get this issues resolved.
Anyone out there have any suggestions.

I don't use the synch. option. However, my RSS feeds are updating without problem after the update. If I remember correctly, the RSS feed update was affected by synching through .Mac? Is that true?
What method did you use to update your system. As a rule, I use the combo update. If you used the incremental method, I suggest using the combo update. Remember to repair permissions via Disk Utility after the update.

  • Optimum hand held device...

Hey there... I need to get a hand held device (palm or similar), nevertheless, I want to make sure the one I get is 110% compatible with my mac OS and entourage... I am pretty new with mac (although I do consider I have got the hang of it now) and when I bought my mbp I had a terrible time changing all my info from my pc... Although most of the applications stated they where 100% compatible, they actually weren't... I do not want this to happend to me again... Any sugestions? I am prepared to pay a hefty price as long as it really works and makes my "complicated" life a bit simpler...
    Thanks in advance...

MarkSpace The Missing Sync works very well for Palm. I can't say the same for Pocket PC as I've never used it.
I've previously had a Pocket PC and used PocketMac Pro. It took them over 8 months to produce a universal binary, so I bought a Palm instead.
PocketMac Pro does boast Entourage compatibility though.
Honestly, I'd get a Palm (I'm partial to the Treo 700p and the T|X, I own both and they're phenomenal) and Missing Sync. DO NOT INSTALL PALM DESKTOP, and then just use Missing Sync. I am not sure the compatibility with Entourage, but just check their website (it's great) and see what you can find.
It's a great program, I'd highly recommend it! Always remember the only device "truly" compatible with OS-X is Palm OS - Windows is made to work with windows, and you will always have SOME sort of problem with connectivity.
    Good luck with your purchase!
Edit: The markspace website says it has conduit support for Entourage 2004.

  • Hand held recorder

Want to buy a hand held recorder an have it seamlessly upload to my imac...any suggestions on models, brands etc?
    Thanks
    Message was edited by: Hafner

Digital recorders of various brands should have a compatibility
with the Mac OS X and the more recent hardware systems...
Even some of the older hardware with a later OS version.
Since I have not tried upload or download from digital recorders,
I did do a search; and there are a few examples and also several
other forum inquiries and replies about this topic, as per here:
' digital recorder upload to Mac ' - google search:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=digitalrecorder+upload+to+Mac&btnG=GoogleSearch&aq=f&oq=
    Someone commented about an Olympus model at Amazon;
but I know nothing about it personally and so that is just an
opinion based on a customer's experience; that is among the
replies in the search result above. That model is no longer
available, yet the brand should have a newer model than the
Olympus DS330 indicted in a search result. See others, too.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How can I read my ebook on a hand held?

I bought $350 worth of ebooks from ebooks.com. They have no support and refer all of their technical questions to Adobe, so I hope someone from here can answer me.
These are the instructions on how to transfer the ebook to the hand held on the ebooks.com site:
Transferring your Mobipocket eBook to your Hand Held Device
    Download the Mobipocket Reader setup program for your hand held onto your PC from;
    http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/DownLoadReaderStep1.asp
Follow the prompts to install the Reader.
Synchronize your hand held to complete the installation of Mobipocket Reader.
With Mobipocket Reader open, select Help / About, then copy the PID and paste it into your account by clicking the Register a PID link on your account. You must do this before you download your eBook.
    Download your eBook.
    * Go to < https://secure.ebooks.com/user/login.aspx >
    * log in with your user name and password.
    * You will find your book listed there. Click on the "Download" link next to it.
Your eBook should download directly to you hand held device.
It says on there you need to "synchonize your hand held to complete the installition". How do I do that? I was never prompted to synchronize my hand held. I registered my PID on my ebooks page for both my computer and my hand held but I did it after I downloaded the ebooks and not before like you are supposed to. I tried taking off my ebooks again and downloading them again and it didn't work because I couldn't read the ebooks at all because the second time I downloaded it only a 1 K file in Digital Editions downloaded and so I had to recover the ebooks from my recycle bin.
Then I tried to download it directly to my bebook but nothing showed up when I looked for it and when I looked at what downloaded to my bebook all that showed up was an 848 bytes .EDT file. Then I transferred the corresponding ebook from my computer to my ebook and it showed up on my hand held but it won't open.
I have the EDT file and the ebook itself on my computer and I did everything right but it won't open on my ebook. What now?

These all have drm so i cannot read them without a i-Device.
Correct.  If you do not have an iOS device or a Mac running Mavericks, do not buy Apple iBooks.  They will be unreadable.

my hand held barcode scanner worked with my hp compaq with XP but doesn't with my new hp pavillion with windows 8 - why?

    Catsandflowers, welcome to the forum.
You will have to check with the manufacturer of the barcode device for a driver for Win 8.  The driver is provided by the device manufacturer.

  • Obtain Ip address of hand held terminal

    Hi all..
We are writing an application for hand held terminals. We are using PDT6846. The HHT application runs on a solaris machine from where the requests are routed to the server. Individual users connect to the HHT application through telnet.
There are two things that i need to know.
    1. How to get the ip address of the terminal which is connecting to the aplication.
    2. As of now, the user has two stages of authentication. One to sign in to the telnet session and then to sign in to the application. Is there a way to automatically sign in to telnet when the device is switched on. ie to configue some exe on start up of these terminal which would automatically login to the telnet session.
Please help me with these two sections
    Regards
    DST

    Same old thing...
Do the devices actually have a public IP address (or an IP address relevant in an intranet)? If not then getting the IP address is worthless information.

  • WebSAPConsole - sending a beep to a hand-held device!

    Hi All,
I am having trouble sending a sound to a hand-held device using WebSAPconsole. I have set up all of the configuration correctly (incl. ref to Rich Heilman's blog) and when I use the transaction in IE on my PC the sound (the default alert.wav file) plays fine.
The transaction is a standard ABAP dialog transaction which is accessed through IE via WebSAPConsole on the hand-held device. The device we are using is a Teklogix 7535 running WinCE.
The problem is that the hand-held device will not play wav files! It can play standard system level sounds but not wav files. So my problem is that SAPWebConsole wants to play a wav file when I send a sound.
    Any ideas? Am really here...
    Thanks,
    N.
PS: I'll also post in the ABAP forum.

    Dear Naill F,
did you find any solutions for this problem?
I have the same problem with a windows-CE based scanner.
    Thanks for your reply,
    Marc,

Try contacting your local SAP office to get more information on mobile applications. SAP's offering is called Mobile Asset Management (MAM)
There are also quite a few 3rd party solutions which you should be able to find either in SAP's Partner site, or by searching Google
