HandBrake Question!

Will HandBrake crack a DVD's encryption for you? I ask this, because it only converts DVDs, so I assume, it might as well crack the encryption. Thanks in advance.

Hi there. I use Handbrake all the time and have plenty of movies on my iPod. This link makes it all clear. Well it did for me!

  • Handbrake questions!

Hey I am really sorry if this has already been discussed but I can't seem to find it. There has got to be a better way to convert DVD to iPOD for the less technical. I have read the iLounge tutorial however I still really have know idea what I am doing or what any of the settings are really adjusting. Anyway my question is I have been able to rip small clips and get them to work on my iPOD sound and all however when I use those same settings to finally import a Feature Length film it will nolonger even import into iTunes. And I am really getting tired of waiting 12+ hours to find out I have done something wrong. Is there an easier way to make sure that I get my settings right?

Try using handbrake lite. It is like handbrake, but without all the confusing options. All you do is, put in your DVD, click rip, and vwhala! There it is. Go to www.isquint.org to find it...

  • Ipod AV kit / DVD's / Screen Size / Handbrake...questions please help???

Hi everyone i was wondering if you could help me out. I have been using handbrake for a while to rip all of my DVD's. I have always changed the screen output size to 320 x 240 because i knew i was only going to be watching it on my IPOD. But i just recently picked up an Ipod AV Kit (waiting for it to be shiped). My question is this... Now that i have the av kit, i would like to watch these movies on a television (hotel room, cruise, etc...) Should i still be changing the screen size? If so to what? And if i leave the screen size to its largest size (dont know what it is ?) Will the ipod automatically shrink it down to be able to watch the movie on the ipod as well???
Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me

Engine, if you use a screen size larger than 320x240 you won't be able to get the file onto your iPod....iTunes won't transfer it. So continue as you are.
I've watched iPod files on a TV. The bigger the screen the poorer the quality (obviously!), it is clearer watchable, you just wouldn't want to watch it all the time. Some scenes look naff (like the openning sequence in the X-Files film....all that snow).
Instant Handbrake is now available. It converts straight to iPod Video format.
    Good luck

  • Homemade movies with chapters question? I have numerous VHS movies converted to DVD and then are converting the DVDs into MP4 via HandBrake.  I am now trying to find the chapters within the converted DVDS with no luck using QuickTime 7.  Help plz.

How do I find the chapters within a Homemade DVD when it has been converted via Handbrake to MP4 and editing ready on Quicktime Player.  I want to get chapters only out of the movie that has 23 chapters so I can edit one chapter at a time. .  Found it once when it said divide into chapters (or something like this) , but can't find it again.  Thanks for the help.

How do I find the chapters within a Homemade DVD when it has been converted via Handbrake to MP4 and editing ready on Quicktime Player.
If you included the chapter information originally contained on the DVD as part of your HandBrake conversion, then it will be located in the "Text" track of your converted file. Did you actually check the "Chapters" tab in HandBrake before converting the DVD content to ensure the chapters were to be included in final export? I.e., not all HandBrake presets automatically include a "Text" (Chapter) track.

  • DVD Ripping Question with Handbrake

So I was checking the discussion threads about converting DVDs to Ipod compatible files and found that I needed Handbrake. I downloaded it and set it up. I went to rip a commercial DVD of Lost, set the file format for MP4, the codecs for MPEG-4 Video/AAC Audio, framerate for Same as Source, and Encoder for ffmpeg. The file that popped out was "movie.mp4". It opened on it's own in quicktime but when I tried to import it into itunes, it appeared on the video desktop and plays fine in iTunes, but I got an error message saying the file wasn't the right format for an ipod to play it. I thought MP4 would work? Am I suppose to set the codecs to AVC? I did keep the aspect ration the same as the original.

Ky, thanks for trying to help, but your post is entirely inaccurate.
The 5th Gen iPod supports the following formats:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
    -or-
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

  • Handbrake Video Conversion Question

I tried to convert a DVD to .mp4 on Handbrake program, when I try to sync to iPhone 3g it says it can't copy because it can't be played on this iPhone. Any ideas or answers please?
    Thank you

Maybe the file type is incorrect. Make sure when using handbrake you select the iphone pre-set from the drop down menu on the right. Alternatively you can try right clicking the file and convert it to a format suitable for iphone if it gives you that option.

  • Same old question, but a little different I think

I see that there are many, many questions about how to manage multiple computers and iPhones.  To be honest, the answers leave me a little confused, as I have tried a couple of the suggestions and nothing has helped my specific situation.  So I apologize if I'm being repetitive but please bear with me.
Until recently we had one desktop with one version of iTunes that had everyone's songs on it (we're a family of 4).  In the last few months everyone has gotten iPhones, and my daughter just got a laptop, and this is where the confusion begins.  Everyone used the main iTunes account to sync up with their devices, then we started creating new accounts and nobody can get what they need anymore.
It looks like currently all music and apps are on my wife's iTunes account.  The rest of us have some smaller subsets based on what we were authorized to load back onto iTunes (desktop) after loading stuff from my wife's iTunes account.  I think ideally what I would like to be able to do is have four separate iTunes accounts - each accessible from our individual desktop accounts (and my daughter's also from her laptop).  I'd like to be able to take all the songs and apps from the main account & dole them out to who they belong to, then have each of our devices linked to our own iTunes account.  So everything separate, BUT then I'd like to have the ability to share songs or apps between our accounts through directories when we want to.
Does any of this make sense?  I don't know if our needs are realistic in general, if I need to back everything up and start from scratch, or how I do any of this.  I feel kind of dense that I can't figure this out.  Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

I use Handbrake (not available for Windows yet) or alternatively you could use quicktime pro

I just got a new iPad 2 and I have lot of questions. I was able to wirelessly link my iPad and iTunes on my PC. I was able to SYNC my email and calendar (new entries only no history), however I have not been able to SYNC Outlook contacts. Outlook has multiple contact lists. Only one has any data. I can't find a way to delete the others and I can't keep the one I want to use at the top of the list. Any ideas?
I have a question about email. I have several thousand emails in 10 or so days. How can I select multiple emails for deletion in stead of one at a time? How do I designate emails from a given sender as junk or block certain senders?
    Ron

the spcs page on this site state which video formats the ipad supports
I'd suggest converting your old videos to one of those formats
handbrake is a free program which does this for you
itunes used to be able to too when I right clicked incompatible media but don't see the option any more
or maybe it only show when one right click incompatible media and currently my lib don't have any
about the music then it's odd what formats are they?
if they are acc protected have you tried to remove the DRM this can be don using itunes as
apple don't use DRM for music any more

  • Questions in policy going crazy..!!

    Hi,
I have a scenario where i have developed a jsp which prompts user to answer 10 questions set in the IDM policy via SPML.
for that i have created a workflow, and it is running perfectly fine when the user has not answered any questions i.e. till the time his all answers field are blank, but when i am running the workflow again for the same user (this time his answers are already set in his profile)...it is storing answers aginast random questions, i.e. it is storing ans1 against ques4, ans2 against ques6 and so on...
I am really amazed at this beahviour because when i checked the tomcat's trace..there it is setting the answers correctly..!! I am pasting the trace below:-

    Thanks in advance.

You can use handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) to convert DVDs into MPEG 4 (QT) movies. Then you can import them into Keynote or iMovie. As far as I know, you cannot directly import DVD movies neither to Keynote, nor iMovie. But handbrake can do it.

  • Questions about old movies

I have a lot of movies that I had downloaded on my external hard drive all of which are in regular dvd format, my question is how would I go about streaming and watching those movies or for that matter converting to movies to any Apple format? Please any assistance before I buy an Apple Tv would help.

If you convert all the movies in a format accepted by ATV (m4v) you will be able to enjoy your ATV.
I see you are using PC and I not familiar with Windows software. But for MAc Toast 9, Quicktime Pro, Handbrake....etc.

  • Two random questions

hey guys.. i have two random questions..
    1) when you recalibrate your battery... after you drain the computer and leave it for 5 hours.. when you RECHARGE IT (before its fully recharged) are you allowed to use it? or are you only allowed to use the macbook AFTER it's recharged... (because in the instructions it only talks about using it for the 2 hours AFTEr it's rechaarged)
    2) also... i always wondered if there was a better alternative between amc the ripper and handbrake (since mac the ripper apparently can rip different region coded dvds)... but ir ealised mac the ripper does FULL dvd rips whilst handbrake converts it into like mp4 and stuff... is that true? (as in.. u cant do vice versa on each?)
thanks a buncho everybody! go the mac..

    2) I use handbrake if I am planning on watching the
DVD on my ipod etc and Mac the Ripper to copy
(Backup) full DVDs. Obviously I do this in America as
it's illegal for some reason in the UK.
It is illegal in the US too. Seems "fair use" does not apply to DVDs and disabling the copy protection (which you do when you rip your DVD via mac the ripper or handbrake) is against the law.

  • Movie playback on Apple TV wirelessly from my Mac Question??

    Hi guys
This is probably a really basic question but the apple site doesnt seem to specifically answer this question...or maybe I need stronger glasses
However, plain and simply can Apple TV play movies that I have stored on an external hard drive that is attached to my Mac (10.5.8)?
The Apple TV will be downstairs and my Mac is upstairs
    I have a D-Link DIR 655 wireless N router
    Thanks in advance

  • Replacing Apple TV with Xbox 360, Video Questions

I have had an ATV for a little over a year and thanks to Handbrake I now have an incredible Movie Library over 600 flicks ripped for ATV with the .m4v extension. This month I am getting an Xbox 360 and would like to use it in place of my ATV and move the ATV to another room. I have been doing my research and everything says I should use Connect 360 or Rivet to make contact between my iMac and Xbox 360. Though I have read that movies with the extension .m4v will not read. I have read on various sites that I could just change the extension to .mp4 or .avi and it will work fine. Though alot of the data out there on connect 360 and Xbox 360 streaming seems to be outdated and I can't tell what has been fixed by updates. so... my questions are,
    1. Will my movies stream to xbox 360 via connect 360 in the .m4v format?
2.If no, can I just change the extension to .mp4 or .AVI? (I changed the extension from .MP4 to .m4v on some movies when I got the ATV due to some recognition issues in itunes last year and had no problem)
    3. If I change the extensions will my ATV still be able to play these videos from elsewhere in the house?
    4. Will it all just work flawlessly with no problems thanks to amazing updates from all parties?

I wanted a next gen game system. Part of the way I could convince my wife to let me get an xbox (Im whipped) was to offer to move the ATV to the bedroom so she could view our media in there. Since the Xbox has media center qualities I figured I would take atvantage of them. Now I trying to figure out the best way to get both working.

  • What are basic steps for using Handbrake ripping software?

I free downloaded Handbrake 0.8.0b1 to my 10.4.9 Mac OSX intending to download a DVD of home 8mm movies, that had been compiled by comm. photo shop, so that I could use iMovie & iDVD programmes to create new DVDs of segments of the 8mm movies. Can't find basic instructions on how to run Handbrake. When I open it the menu is mostly greyed out, so I have little or no choice. Tried downloading parts of the DVD several times, and only once did it register a file (in desktop) which I was able to open. I subsequently lost that by trying to move its destination. Other times a destination for the download is shown in the menu, (greyed out) but it isn't registered anywhere on the hard drive, nor shown on the desktop. So I would appreciate learning the elementary abc's of the steps to use that software.

These Apple-hosted forums are best for Q&A about Apple software. The best place to get info about using non-Apple software is from the developers themselves. Check out the Handbrake FAQ page and/or post your question on the Handbrake developers' forums.

  • DVD question

My friend gave me a "vacation" DVD that was created in Australia. When I play it on my mac, it looks great. When I play it on my DVD player, its black and white and corrupted. Is this a PAL vs NTSC issue?
My second question is how do I create a quicktime file of the DVD so that I can bring it into Final Cut?
    THanks!

Non protected DVD's don't need to be ripped at all with MTR , you can drag the VIDEO_TS file to the desktop then open it in MPEG Streamclip (free, but to edit MPEG 2 you need Apple's MPEG-2 component which is not) and cut/trim it there. Dragging is much faster as well. And there is no need to buy Cinematize pro either.
MTR for non-protected DVD's as this is, is useful if you do want a particular title , chapter or title and range of chapters on the DVD. Play it to find out what part you want then use the Title/chapter setting to make a new VIDEO_TS folder of that selected portion.
MPEG Streamclip is superior video export quality to Handbrake by a factor of 10.
You can also change the frame rate if you want to convert PAL to NTSC - I have found at times files that are 25 fps (PAL) that I want to put on DVD in Toast. I convert them using MPEG STreamclip to the 29.97 FPS so Toast doesn't have a conniption when it sees a mix of 25 and 30 fps source files.
For a free application it is the most versatile video editing/converting toolkit that exists.
