Handing down an ipod touch

This must be somewhat common but I can't seem to find the right post to answer the question. My daughter is handing down her ipod touch to my son, as she just got a new iphone 4. I can't seem to find a model number, but she got it in summer 2009. She had it synced with her macbook pro. My son's itunes library is on a Windows XP PC. Since it is within family, wiping passwords, etc. is not the problem, but I'm trying to determine how I can wipe her music and essentially restore it so that it can be synced with a new library on a different PC. I don't want to mess it up beyond repair, and she didn't have an extended service plan, so I'm on my own. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated. Thank you.

However, some posted either early day or yesterday that restoring to factory defaults still resulted in the original owners iTunes account popping up asking for a password when trying to download an app. So just be careful. You might also then try erasing all content and setting in Settings>General>Reset. The users guide says it may take awhile so have either fully charged or charging during the erase.

  • Shutting down my iPod Touch

When shutting down my iPod Touch (not putting it to sleep), it turns black like usual, but shows the apple screen seconds after it turns off. What can I do? It has not turned off for weeks.

    I have the same issue.

I have NOT found a solution. Also, my battery life is down to few hours in sleep mode. Does your battery also drain fully overnight?

  • While performing a system update, I shut down my iPod touch. Can the pictures on my iPod be recovered if my iPod was not backed up?

While performing a system update, I shut down my iPod touch. Can the pictures on my iPod be recovered if my iPod was not backed up?
iPod is fourth generation, the system update was a little over half complete.
I want to get the pictures off the iPod so that I can keep them. Is there any way to do this?

    Maybe,
    - if when you connect the iPod to your computer you can make a backup? If yes yo can restore from that backup
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    - Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backup dated when you started the update. the first stiep of an update is iTunes making a backup.
    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

  • WindowsXP shuts down when iPod Touch 2nd gen 8gb is connected

Everything was operating fine for the first day I was using my new iPod Touch. on the second day, I think I might have disconnected the iPod too early? The iPod itself is currently operating normally, however, every time I connect it to my PC/iTunes, the PC shuts down, then goes to the HP blue screen- the one that gives the "Esc, F1 and F8" options.
I restart and Windows says it has recovered from a serious error and wants to send the report.
PC is ok until connection w/Ipod.

Send the report and then wait while XP connects and tells you what the error is then you can "fix" it.
You can also check Event Viewer to find out the error. I'm guessing you messed up Apple Mobile Device Support and may have done something to the Windows usb drivers but only the error report can tell you for sure.
It might have nothing to do with your iPod or it might have everything to do with it but we can't help until we know what it is.
As for disconnecting iPods, wait till iTunes it says OK to disconnect and then use that arrow icon to do it. That will avoid all sorts of problems in the future.
If you want to end the sync early use the slider on the iPod (the one that reads cancel sync) and then use the disconnect arrow icon when you get the OK form iTunes.

  • My iPod Touch 32 GB 4th Genereation is stolen. I didnt not remember to turn on the Find My IPhone App in my Settings. Is there anyway that I can track down my Ipod Touch by using the serial number on the casing or anyother solutions?

My IPod Touch 32 GB 4th generation was stolen. I didnt put the Find My IPhone to enabled. Is there an solutions of how i can track my IPod down? Please help?

i can probably answer this part for you. in our bills and laws the privacy act was added. this made it so information among other things cannot be attained without a warrent or permission of the person being "searched or in this case located". if apple were to merely locate the ipod without the proper paperwork and authorities involved they could face serious fines aswell as jail time. so even though your ipod was stolen by someone else it is now in their possesion and therefor you cannot turn a feature on to locate it without that persons permission. however the way the "find my ipod app" works is it is designed to locate the ipod alone. this is why it can be activated by the owner with their permission. you can get the police involved however without knowing who stole it the warrent cannot be obtained. im sorry but i hope this helped you understand this isnt apples fault but laws are laws.

  • An I eligible for a discount on a new iPod if I hand in my iPod touch 1g? Or is it too old?

I am going to hand in my 4g for the 10% of a 5g, and I also thought "why not get a nano also", but my only other iPod is a 1st gen iPod touch. Will I still get a 10% discount or do they not accept the 1st gen?

    You are most welcome

You can only track the iPod if you had it set up with FindMyiPod/iPhone.  If you didn't I'm afriad you are out of luck and we'll have to look for it the same way you would any other lost item.

  • Set auto shut down for iPod touch after period of inactivity

I keep falling asleep with my iPod on. My old MP3 player had a setting where it automatically shutdown after a specified period of inactivity. Is there a download or setting of some sort that will make the ipod touch do the same?

I can't try it out for you now and don't know if it's on 2.x, but read p. 32 of the IPT manual under Sleep Timer. The option is under the Clock -> Timer on the Home menu. If the feature is still there...

    help

    Two ways:
    - Connect the iPod yu computer and restore to factoery defaults/new iPod via iTunes.  See the restoring topic of:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software
    - With the iPOd connected to a charging source, go to Setting>General>reset>Erase all Content and Settings.  This can take hours.

  • How do you cool down the iPod touch

How and is it bad if you don't?

Like Kappy said, turn it off for a while, a couple of hours at least. How hot is hot? A little warm... or too hot to handle? If you bake your iPod you can damage the battery and circuits doing permanent damage. Have seen a couple posts where people have reported there iPod's started smoking (as I remember these were heavy gamers that refused to turn off the iPods) and one stated it started on fire; don't remember the circumstance. During prolonged heavy use, like long gaming sessions-- (activities that work the CPU hard) and charging, getting warm is normal. But if it is getting to hot to handle or a heat warning is popping up, you have a problem. Turn it off, allow it to cool down. If keeps reoccurring try resetting or Restoring to backup or Restore to new. If over heating continues contact Apple Genius Bar and have your iPod evaluated. Good luck, Cheers.

    help me!!!!

Just by looking for it like if you lost your shoe.  Apple will not do anything. See:
Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product
Report it to the police and change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod.

  • Shutting down Safari on iPod Touch

Why would anyone want to shut down Safari on the iPod Touch? Well, it's like this.
The WiFi network at the University where I work has a laborious and arcane log-in where it's necessary to shut down the browser after entering the username and password, and then restart it in order to gain access to the network and the Internet. I've managed to configure the proxy settings for this network, and enter the username and password into the incredibly tiny boxes. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to shut the browser down. If I switch to another application and/or power down the iPod Touch, the browser resolutely remains open to the last page viewed.
    Any thoughts?

Open a new empty page in Safari and close the original one. Then close Safari. Safari will re-open at the empty page.
(In fact, when you close Safari, you are in fact shutting it down - it doesn't remain running in the background. Safari just remembers the last page you were at and re-opens it when you re-open Safari).

  • How to track down my lost ipod touch with out having mobile me as a app???

DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO TRACK DOWN A IPOD TOUCH WITH OUT HAVING MOBILE ME AS A APP?

You cannot. Sorry.  You could try calling it via facetime, if  you have facetime, and listen for the ringing.
BTW, typing in all caps indicates shouting, is considered rude and is difficult to read.
